00:00Venezuela commemorates with various activities the 33 years of the civic-military rebellion
00:19against the government of Carlos Andrés Pérez.
00:33In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, M23 rebel movement declared a unilateral ceasefire
00:38in the city of Goma due to the current humanitarian crisis in the African country.
00:54And a Palestinian combatant from the resistance movement hid to death two Israeli soldiers
00:59and injured six others in response to the genocidal offensive mounted by Sionist forces
01:04on the northern occupied West Bank.
01:34Venezuela commemorates the 33 years of the civic-military rebellion against the government
01:42of Carlos Andrés Pérez, action that was led by Commander Hugo Chávez Frías on February
01:474th, 1992.
01:50President Nicolás Maduro took part in the commemoration act, addressing the march that
01:54had gathered in the capital, Caracas.
01:56Joined by First Commander Cilia Flores and by Minister of the Interior, Peace and Justice
02:01Diosdado Cabello, the President highlighted that Commander Chávez's February 4th rebellion
02:07was the rebirth of the liberating projects of a long line of leaders and generations
02:12in the region.
02:13In this context, he also stressed that February 4th marked an awakening of the Venezuelan
02:19and a starting point for the process that is still alive today.
02:32Earlier in the day, addressing the commemoration of the February 4th civic-military rebellion
02:37against Carlos Andrés Pérez's dictatorship in Venezuela, Ministers of Interior, Justice
02:42and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, stressed the need to honour Commander Chávez's deed and
02:47the changes it brought to the nation.
02:54Honour to whom honour is owed.
02:56Certainly, our country changed after that February 4th, and that humble but firm man
03:05emerged, who was able in one minute to send a message of hope for the future to the people.
03:16That a battle had been lost.
03:18But that the war was just beginning.
03:23Likewise, the Venezuelan Minister recalled that the military forces together with Chávez
03:30confronted the empire amid the economic crisis which ravaged the country by that time.
03:40We rose up against those who governed here, that is to say, we rose up against imperialism,
03:46because in the end it was the imperialism who governed here, all our natural resources
03:51handed over, the country mortgaged, on the way to privatizing all.
04:00The United States and El Salvador announced on Monday the start of a controversial immigration
04:05agreement that they called unprecedented.
04:07The U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, met with Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele
04:12on Monday.
04:13After their meeting, he said that El Salvador agreed to take in any regular immigrants from
04:19the United States and also offered to house dangerous U.S. criminals in its prisons.
04:25Bukele affirmed that the new agreement with the U.S. constitutes a unique case.
04:30He said that this is a much larger agreement that is unprecedented in the history of relations,
04:37not only between the U.S. and El Salvador, but with all Latin America.
05:01The President, in an act of extraordinary friendship to our country, knowing the challenges
05:07we face in the U.S., has agreed to the most unprecedented and extraordinary migratory
05:14agreement anywhere in the world.
05:17First, obviously, he continues with full cooperation on the returning of Salvadorans who find themselves
05:23illegally in the United States and welcome them back home, and that's already existing
05:26and that will continue.
05:28But second, he has agreed to accept for deportation any illegal alien in the United States who
05:36is a criminal from any nationality, be they MS-13 or Trinidad-Agua, and house them in
05:41his jails.
05:42And third, he has offered to house in his jails dangerous American criminals in custody
05:52in our country, including those of U.S. citizenship and legal residence.
05:57No country has ever made an offer of friendship such as this.
06:00And now we have a short break coming up, don't go away, we'll be right back.
06:06Welcome back to From the South.
06:30In Haiti, the number of people fleeing violence grows daily since the beginning of the siege
06:34of the Kenkov commune by armed groups.
06:37The International Organization for Migration reported that 1,669 citizens abandoned their
06:44homes in that community due to the attacks since January 27th.
06:48According to the organization, more than one million citizens are currently internally
06:52displaced in the Caribbean country, struggling amidst a worsening humanitarian crisis.
06:58The ONE OM regretted that minors are bearing the brunt of displacement and represent half
07:04of the population in this situation.
07:14In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the M23 rebel movement declared a unilateral ceasefire
07:19in the city of Goma due to the current humanitarian crisis in the African country.
07:24In a statement, the M23 armed group emphasized its commitment to safeguard the people and
07:29localities under its control.
07:31They also exhorted the Southern African Development Community to leave the country since they
07:36did not deem important the presence of this organization in the country.
07:41The M23 detailed that they did not intend to take the city of Bukavu, while they condemned
07:47the intentions of the armed forces to bombard the areas under the control of these armed
07:51groups.
07:52Meanwhile, citizens called on the Congolese government not to trust the ceasefire as they
08:03say is a strategy to gain strength before continuing on the offensive.
08:09Today, such a statement still shows their military strategy.
08:15At the same time, as they say that the city of Bukavu should not be taken, it is a strategy
08:20for them to strengthen themselves with men and ammunition.
08:23And at the same time, they are advancing to take the city of Bukavu.
08:26Thus, we still ask the authorities not to trust such statements, to focus and to stay
08:31alert to neutralize the enemies of the Republic.
08:36I think it's a total distraction, and the Congolese government should not take it into
08:40account.
08:41Because every time the M23 AFC solicits for its sole effect, a while later, we find that
08:47it was a way to distract the Congolese government, and sometime later, the M23 AFC reclaims many
08:53villages and advances further.
08:55That is why I think as the M23 AFC are already in South Kivu soliciting for its sole effect,
09:01a few days later, we will be surprised that they have taken Bukavu or Uvira or even other
09:06villages in other provinces.
09:13The M23 move comes in response to different reports of the social crisis in the city of
09:18Goma due to the violence between armed groups.
09:21Health authorities said that hospitals are overburdened with trauma patients.
09:26They also warned that they are facing a humanitarian crisis as food and medical supplies are having
09:31difficulty reaching the conflict zone.
09:43Thousands of people were leaving the Greek island of Santorini by sea and air for a third
10:00day on Tuesday as an unprecedented series of earthquakes shook the island.
10:05Officials said that some 6,000 people have already left the island, known for its spectacular
10:11cliffside views and a dormant volcano.
10:14Since last week, the island has been hit by hundreds of tremors.
10:18A 4.9 magnitude quake hit early on Tuesday morning amid other smaller tremors.
10:24No injuries or damage were reported on Santorini and the neighbouring islands of Anafi, Ayos
10:29and Amorgos, which have also been affected by the seismic activity.
10:33Experts say the region has not experienced seismic activity on this scale in recent history
10:39and do not know how long it will last.
10:51We have a second short break coming up, but before we invite you to visit our YouTube
10:55channel at Teleser English, there you'll be able to re-watch our interviews, top stories,
11:00special broadcastings and more.
11:02We'll be right back, stay with us.
11:09Welcome back from the south.
11:28A Palestinian combatant from the resistance movement shot to death two Israeli soldiers
11:32and injured six others in response to the genocidal offensive mounted by the Zionist
11:37forces on another occupied West Bank.
11:40Local media reported the clash broke out on Tuesday morning near the Tayasir checkpoint
11:45east of Toba city.
11:46Sources detailed that the Palestinian combatant barricaded himself inside a watchtower at
11:52the checkpoint to wait for the right time to open fire, in which he was killed.
11:58Afterward, Israel authorities ordered the closure of nearby roads and the dispatch of
12:03helicopters to transfer the injured to hospitals.
12:07And in this context, several Middle East governments reject the US president's proposal
12:13to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to neighbouring countries.
12:17Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Iran, Egypt and Jordan condemned what they
12:23described as an ethnic cleansing plan.
12:26In response to Trump's statements, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said that the
12:32transfer of Palestinians out of their territory is not the solution and that the establishment
12:37of a free Palestinian state recognised throughout the world must be promoted.
12:43For his part, Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi stated that his country's stance against
12:48Trump's plan would remain firm and unwavering.
13:01Let's go now to South Korea, where a constitutional court held a briefing as part of the ongoing
13:06impeachment trial against President Jung Suk-kyo.
13:09Yeon arrived at the court in a prison truck escorted by guard vehicles after being incarcerated
13:16in a detention centre near Seoul since officers arrested him in January.
13:21The constitutional court is currently deliberating on his formal removal or reinstatement, a
13:27process that could take up to 180 days.
13:31Prosecutors indicated in this context the ousted President on rebellion charges in connection
13:37with his imposition of short-lived martial law past December 3rd.
13:42And also we are going to, at this hour, to the US President Donald Trump.
13:47Let's go to the US, reaffirmed to provide aid for rare and mineral-rich lands with Ukraine.
13:54In this context, on a press briefing before journalists in this Oval Office, the US President
13:59ensured that $100 billion investment must warranty the appropriation of minerals and
14:06territory of interest.
14:08Meanwhile, the Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky had offered his country's mineral
14:13resources, which are valued at billions of dollars, to the West.
14:18They have been coveted by high-tech industries in the areas of electronics, green energy,
14:24medicine and optics.
14:25Indeed, Ukraine possesses deposits of 20 elements such as lithium, cobalt, scandium, graphite,
14:32tantalum, niobium, among others.
14:41And in an exclusive interview for a news multiplatform Telesur, Raul Antonio Capote, Cuban journalist
14:47of the Grama newspaper, highlighted that the President of the United States, Donald Trump,
14:52used the US aid to finance the terrorist projects of the Venezuelan opposition.
14:56Let's listen.
15:02Remember that during his first administration Trump used the USAID, he funded the USAID.
15:08All the things that were done against Venezuela in those years were done with USAID funds.
15:14In other words, everything that was prepared against the Maduro government at that time
15:18came out of the pockets of the USAID.
15:21Now it is uncomfortable for him to use that organization which is also in tremendous disrepute
15:26today, because it has also been linked to extremely corrupt elements of the Venezuelan opposition.
15:32USAID was the one that financed the entire Guaido project and everything that happened
15:37in those years, and has responsibility in many acts of corruption to which all these
15:42lords of the Venezuelan opposition are linked.
15:45The Molina government deported Monday 43 Colombians compliant with the anti-immigrant agreement
15:51sealed between Panama and the United States.
15:53The target of the deal is to arrest and deport migrants crossing over the Darien Gap.
15:59Earlier, Colombian President Gustavo Petro had requested to suspend for a while deportation
16:04flights to set a humanitarian protocol.
16:06Likewise, Petro had proposed to arrange chartered flights for migrants, noting they won't receive
16:13them in handcuffs like criminals.
16:15However, the Molina administration dismissed Petro's calls.
16:18As a result, Panamanian authorities treated the 43 deputies like offenders as they tied
16:24their hands up during the flight, though they claimed they were just seven with criminal records.
16:32During the flight they brought us in, they used some things to tie everyone's hands.
16:40If we are going to have continuous deportations due to the international policies that are
16:45being adopted, let's request President Petro to create support networks, temporary shelters
16:50in national institutions that will allow us to attend these cases.
16:55The Chinese government announced Tuesday that it will impose tariffs of 10% to 100% on certain
17:01U.S. products beginning February 10th in response to the 10% tariffs on Chinese goods imposed
17:07by President Donald Trump.
17:09According to a statement issued by the Chinese Executive Customs Commission, Beijing will
17:13apply a 15% tariff on cold and liquid goods.
17:17According to a statement issued by the Chinese Executive Customs Commission, Beijing will
17:21apply a 15% tariff on cold and liquefied natural gas products and a 10% tariff on crude oil,
17:29agricultural machinery, large cars and pickup trucks.
17:32The same document adds that in case of imported goods originated in the United States, the
17:38corresponding duties will be applied based on the tariff rates enforced.
17:42Finally, the Chinese government filed a complaint against the United States before the World
17:46Trade Organization for violating the rules established by the agency.
17:56And with this information, we have come to the end of this news brief.
