00:05 >> Coach Snyder, I know a couple of days ago before the game,
00:07 you mentioned that for the remainder of the season, especially down the stretch,
00:13 the team needed to be more connected defensively,
00:16 especially pertaining to on ball defense.
00:20 I know you may not have seen the remainder of the-
00:24 >> No, I watched, yeah.
00:26 >> All right.
00:27 In that case, what did you see in regards to improvement,
00:32 maybe things staying the same, what do you think you can carry the rest of the season?
00:37 Secondly, in the play where Trey took a hard screen,
00:41 you got a double technical, what exactly did you see?
00:44 >> Well, it was Purtle who had the screen, or I should say Trey took a hard screen.
00:49 >> Yes. >> Well, first of all,
00:50 I thought we struggled at the beginning of the game offensively.
00:58 To finish, we started poorly.
01:03 And when that happens, you put even more pressure on your transition defense.
01:09 And it's hard to contain the ball unless you have,
01:15 you really are urging to get back.
01:19 And show bodies and space, otherwise they're just gonna drive.
01:25 So I think that fast break points, we talked about that.
01:30 I think we're 22 to 9, which we were playing from behind during that point.
01:36 With respect to the play, it was a foul.
01:41 And he turned his body, that's an automatic foul.
01:49 That's the call.
01:50 And obviously my reaction,
01:53 you wouldn't react like that typically to any foul.
01:58 In that case, I saw Trey take a shot to his quad, and
02:03 I was concerned about his knee, frankly.
02:05 And he was on the ground, and I was worried that he was hurt.
02:09 So probably deserved the technical, although that was the rationale.
02:15 I don't know why the second one came as quickly as it did.
02:19 Typically you get one like that, there's some level of understanding.
02:23 My player's on the ground, and could be hurt.
02:26 So like I said, my reaction was certainly an emotional one,
02:33 and that was the reason why.
02:34 You see it on the film, it's clearly contact.
02:38 So, theater wide,
02:42 which is an illegal screen to begin with, and then the body turns.
02:48 Get a guy that takes a shot in his quad, looked to me initially like it was his knee.
02:55 So that was why I reacted.
02:58 But that wasn't the game.
02:59 We didn't shoot the ball well.
03:02 And I thought we got back cut a lot, which was a problem.
03:11 And then there were a couple possessions too,
03:13 that were some daggers, like a Lennox bank shot there at the end.
03:16 And when the ball isn't going in, even like it was early,
03:20 I think we started the game one for 13.
03:23 So you're grinding your way back.
03:25 And I thought we had some really good looks that we missed,
03:30 that could have put us over the top, and that didn't happen.
03:34 So we needed to do more.
03:38 >> The start of that game, do you kind of see it as a team that hadn't played in nine
03:43 days versus a team who played last night?
03:45 >> I mean, you don't want to make excuses for anything.
03:53 I thought that we had to get our rhythm and our timing.
03:59 But I thought we needed to get back better.
04:03 Our thing, we need to keep working to control the things we can.
04:10 You don't control the schedule.
04:11 You could make the argument that they were on a back to back.
04:13 So that stuff is out of your hands with the schedule.
04:18 And we just need to continue to control the things that we can.
04:22 Focus on those and try to be better in those areas.
04:27 >> What things do you try to work on with the guys about not getting beat by those
04:31 back door cuts?
04:32 >> Well, you can't, you have to stay below your man.
04:36 You have to have that level of discipline to not.
04:41 We had some breakdowns where we overhelped.
04:45 We had some breakdowns where in that sense, we're out length of night and
04:48 passing lane, and you're susceptible or not.
04:50 And in the floor space, there isn't any help there at the rim.
04:55 So that discipline in our defense, and our urgency in transition.
05:02 >> Coach, one area was the offensive rebounds that stood out to me.
05:05 And that's been something the Hawks have done consistently well for a while now.
05:09 What do you think it is that we capitalize on that makes that so
05:13 big for us and so consistent for us?
05:15 >> Well, it's important.
05:17 There were a number of them tonight that we were rebounding on our own misses.
05:20 And when we got fouled late, Clint got to the line and
05:26 made some free throws early in the game.
05:28 We didn't convert on some of those.
05:30 But Sadiq, Hunt, and JJ, and Clint, that's a big part of their game.
05:37 And it's something that they really take ownership of.
05:41 And there are certain times it's difficult to go to the offensive boards.
05:47 You have to know when those opportunities,
05:50 the probability of you getting the rebound is greater.
05:53 That's a tough recognition at times.
05:56 So you can't, you either gotta go or you gotta get back.
06:02 And we get caught in purgatory at times.
06:07 And when those things happen, it's tough to defend in transition.
06:12 With an open floor, guys have speed and
06:18 athleticism to get into the rim.
06:19 >> Coach, I know it doesn't come down to one possession or one play.
06:25 But at the end of the game there, did it look to you like the draft team stepped
06:28 out and maybe you guys could have challenged them?
06:30 >> I couldn't tell.
06:31 Those are always difficult things to, as you said, it's one play.
06:40 And again, that's to me, as you said, I'll just reiterate what you said.
06:46 It's not the end of the other situations that we weren't able to execute on.
06:52 We're not gonna capitalize on.
06:55 >> What did you make of Clint's men tonight overall?
06:57 >> It's good to have him back.
07:01 He played hard.
07:02 There's always, you're conditioning and you haven't played in that long.
07:06 Even if you're working to stay in shape, when you get in a game setting,
07:10 it just goes up to another level,
07:12 particularly against a team that tries to push the ball the way they do.
07:17 But it's, like I said, it's good to have him back.
07:20 You see how much he cares and how much he competes.
07:22 [BLANK_AUDIO]
07:26 >> Coach with Bonieca out, the team kind of needed that spark,
07:29 especially the front court.
07:32 Bruno seemed to have come off the bench and provided that spark.
07:36 What did you think of his performance?
07:38 >> He's done a good job.
07:39 As he said, with Clint, he had a couple of really good finishes.
07:43 We can pick and roll.
07:44 And we needed him to keep doing that and just keep performing at that level and
07:50 keep competing and playing hard.
07:52 That's what he's doing.
07:53 It's good to see.
07:54 We need that from him.
