00:02 >> Tough night on the glass throughout the night, but
00:04 you guys were grabbing rebounds when you guys needed them most.
00:06 What does that say about how you guys attacked the glass down the stretch?
00:10 >> Yeah, I think, well, first of all, Bogey, DJ, and Trey,
00:15 I think six, six, and four defensive rebounds.
00:19 And that was the kind of game it was.
00:21 They're an athletic team and they had space and they drove the ball.
00:25 So when you come over to help, which is what we need to do,
00:30 there's opportunities for them to get on the glass.
00:33 But we got some big ones when we needed them, and
00:37 we got a couple big offensive rebounds too.
00:38 >> And then that kind of sequence with Onyeka where it potentially could have
00:44 been a foul, but he's still in the game.
00:47 Just what does it say about his, I guess, mindset when he still kind of goes up,
00:51 blocks that shot, and it leads to a transition bucket from Sadiq?
00:54 >> Well, it was a big play.
00:56 I think the thing that he's really effective with is just going vertical and
01:04 not necessarily trying to come down because he's strong.
01:08 And he's really doing a good job moving his feet and putting himself in position.
01:15 And that's just, it shows his discipline and his focus and
01:19 he's playing to his strengths.
01:21 If he can get in front of you, I wouldn't wanna run into him.
01:26 And it's good defense as well.
01:29 >> Coach, you did a lot of switching with Onyeka, and
01:34 then you had Sadiq and JJ out there kind of flip flopping between those two.
01:38 Just what did you see out of those three guys as kind of only your picks tonight?
01:42 >> Yeah, with some of the guys out, those guys we knew though,
01:47 in a couple of minutes we're gonna get extended and
01:52 we changed matchups a few times.
01:55 Green heard us early when he was picking and popping.
01:58 And then those guys switching made that harder.
02:03 And as you said, I thought they did a really good job with that.
02:06 Not just switching to take away the pop, but
02:10 staying in front of the ball as well and defending out on the floor.
02:14 >> Coach, it seems like Sadiq has really put together a consistent stream of games
02:18 where he's just performed at a high level.
02:19 Can you talk about what you guys have recognized in his game that's allowing
02:23 him to perform at such a high level?
02:25 >> Well, first of all, I wanna remember a few weeks ago when everybody was talking
02:29 about his shooting.
02:30 And we said keep shooting, keep shooting, keep shooting.
02:32 I'm not saying that to anybody specifically.
02:34 But my point is, I think his mental toughness is the answer to your question.
02:42 And he's tough.
02:45 And the fact that he's continuing to shoot the ball,
02:50 even if he doesn't see it go in, shows that.
02:52 His discipline on defense shows that.
02:57 And he's had a few possessions at the end of the game when he's
03:01 crashed the offensive glass and won us games.
03:04 So all the way around, he puts the time in.
03:08 We've got a number of guys that have really worked and are getting better.
03:14 And you see that with Sadiq's play.
03:17 There's some merit to getting more and
03:21 more comfortable playing with a group as well.
03:25 >> He compares himself to the Joker.
03:26 Can you see that in his game?
03:29 >> Not Joker bitch, but the- >> No, like-
03:32 >> No, I know.
03:33 >> [LAUGH]
03:34 >> Yeah, well, I was in the Joker for
03:36 Halloween last year, so.
03:38 We have that in common.
03:39 We speak the same language.
03:41 Which Joker is the question?
03:42 The one from way back, Batman, Boonman Powell, or yeah, Joaquin Phoenix?
03:47 I don't know.
03:48 >> I think he's a lot.
03:49 >> He is?
03:49 >> Or he bludgers.
03:50 I'm going with Jack Nicholson.
03:53 >> There's a lot of options.
03:54 You can ask him.
03:54 >> [LAUGH]
03:55 >> They're all schizophrenic, though.
03:57 I don't think he's that.
03:57 >> [LAUGH]
03:58 >> So.
03:59 >> It was the most that Kobe's played.
04:01 What did you see from him?
04:03 >> I thought he did a terrific job.
04:05 He took shots when he's open, which we want.
04:11 There was a couple possessions.
04:12 Most importantly, it's hard to stay in front of those guys.
04:17 They're quick.
04:18 And he was down in a stance, moving his feet,
04:22 had his hands out, was he in space?
04:27 Just fundamentally the things that you need to do to be a solid defender in this
04:32 league, to be thrown in the situation he was in tonight.
04:36 He's ready.
04:38 And we talked about this before the game.
04:40 I think a lot of it has to do with playing in the G.
04:44 He's got a rhythm.
04:45 I mentioned it before.
04:46 He's watching tape.
04:49 They're not, as I know, fortunate enough to fly on a private plane.
04:53 You're in Grand Rapids getting the first commercial flight out of the morning.
04:57 And what that does is it allows you time with your coach.
05:02 And he's done a lot of film.
05:04 There's a lot of things that he's doing.
05:08 He's not just down there hooping.
05:09 He's getting better.
05:10 And he's been disciplined in his show tonight.
05:13 He really played well.
05:13 >> You touched on mental toughness a little bit earlier when we were talking
05:17 about speed.
05:18 But last night we talked about it as well with that Philly game and
05:22 how some of those late stretches can lead to the mental lapses.
05:25 I'm curious what you saw as far as a team collective mental toughness and
05:30 the focus.
05:31 >> Yeah, I felt like there was one possession,
05:35 the palming call on Trey.
05:38 And he was great.
05:41 Trey got to the next play.
05:43 There was a couple things like that that didn't go our way.
05:45 But we respond at important times.
05:50 So those things are just, that's how you win basketball games.
05:55 Thank you, Coach.
05:56 - Okay.
