WATCH: Everything From Quin Snyder After Hawks Win Over the Magic
Transcript
00:00 We were unselfish, we competed, and we were really connected.
00:07 And I think getting the win, it's a really good win,
00:12 cuz it was an affirmation of those things.
00:17 Obviously, some things that we can do better, that's usually the case.
00:23 But it was really good on all those three levels as much as anything.
00:27 We talked about that prior to the game, where we can see improvement.
00:33 And that really helped our execution.
00:36 I thought Trey and DJ playing off each other late.
00:42 They were poised, and we were able to defend late.
00:47 >> Just the start of the game with the first half,
00:50 just how they were crashing offensive blocks.
00:52 What were you seeing from them that made it so
00:54 much easier for them to kinda get some of those offensive boards?
00:59 >> Well, I'm not letting our guys off the hook.
01:01 But when Clint gets switched out on Carol,
01:06 I thought it really made him work, our back line in the glass,
01:13 is a 6'9", 6'11", 6'8", whatever it was.
01:19 They're big.
01:20 And they cut cuz he's in an isolation situation in the back down.
01:28 And we thought, did a great job of guarding all our guys.
01:33 It was on with JJ, had a couple contests that were really good.
01:37 Thought we did a good job of defending him.
01:42 And those shots, they know he shoot them and they crash.
01:48 And some we gotta stay committed to.
01:51 But as much as anything, it's the process of getting those hits.
01:58 Cuz we can't really jump with them.
02:01 Someone's got a running start, it's hard.
02:05 But that's where we competed.
02:07 And we got more familiar with the way that they were going to the glass as
02:12 the game went on, and I thought our guards rebounded.
02:17 We have to rebound, we have to gain rebound.
02:20 >> Obviously it works out with the John Day shot.
02:22 What was the thought process after Palos three to not call a timeout,
02:26 just let it play out?
02:27 >> Yeah, that's always the debate.
02:33 So you call a timeout, the defense gets that, you substitute.
02:40 And DJ, more to that, confidence, and happy for him.
02:48 He was contested, that's a shot he could make, and he did.
02:53 It was more significant to me, even prior to that,
02:57 the last five minutes, those two guys playing pick and roll.
03:03 Trey pick and roll, playing pick and roll with JJ.
03:05 I thought we were able to manufacture some good shots.
03:09 And Trey put so much pressure on you when he drives, and he got to the line.
03:14 And he got fouled.
03:17 >> Coach, I know you briefly mentioned him, but
03:19 with Onieka kind of closing out the game in those minutes,
03:22 what do you like from him?
03:23 I know he had that foul, but just what do you like seeing that?
03:27 >> His energy, whether he's in with Clint,
03:33 we felt like that matchup for him was a good matchup.
03:39 Cuz of his strength, and I thought he was terrific on the glass.
03:44 Trey found him on the roll, and he's got really good hands.
03:52 And you throw it up to him, even if he doesn't dunk it,
03:56 he catches it, comes down, and goes up strong.
04:00 So we felt that that made sense, and
04:05 we wanted to get him out in the middle part of the fourth so we could finish.
04:10 That's always hard.
04:14 Those two guys, the way they support each other, it's really good, and it's unique.
04:19 >> In a game where so close like that, it's a possession battle,
04:25 you lose the, or you have 23 to number six, Orlando's 13.
04:30 How do you overcome that, or do you contribute that to?
04:33 >> We did, I think, but
04:36 that's obviously an area that we wanna take care of the middle.
04:40 I did, some of them, you did Isaac out there, he spreads out.
04:46 We did Plunkera out there, he moved to angles at 6'8",
04:50 false at 6'7", and subs is big at 6'4", they're big.
04:55 And it takes a little getting used to that, and you have to adjust.
04:59 But some of the angles on your passes, they're able to distort those.
05:04 Some of the times you throw a lob, if they're playing the pass,
05:09 they can tip it.
05:10 So obviously, look at that.
05:14 I think our players know that.
05:15 It wasn't time to remind them of their turnovers tonight.
05:21 You can do that later.
05:21 >> Thanks, Coach.
05:24 >> Okay, thank you.
