00:00In Venezuela, on Friday morning, a new flight carrying 174 migrants arrived at the Simón
00:16Bolívar International Airport as part of the Back to the Homeland government plan.
00:24A 7.4-magneted earthquake hit the southern coast of Chile and Argentina.
00:30Chilean authorities have issued a tsunami alert for the region.
00:36And the Palestinian Authority in Gaza denounced that Israel is using hunger as a weapon of war.
00:46Hello and welcome to From the South.
00:47My name is Belen de los Santos.
00:49I'm from the Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:51We begin with the news.
00:59Now we begin with the information.
01:05In Venezuela, on Friday morning, as part of the Back to the Homeland government plan,
01:10a new flight carrying 174 migrants arrived at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiketía, La Guayra.
01:17The U.S. flight that took off from El Paso, Texas, was received by the Venezuelan Minister for the Interior, Justice and Peace,
01:25Diosdado Cabello, who specified that 3,646 nationals have been returned to the country in the last few days
01:34as part of the initiative of the Bolivarian government aimed at guaranteeing the safe and dignified return of Venezuelan citizens.
01:42In this regard, Cabello highlighted the action is an effort of coordination and teamwork
01:47and denounce the ongoing persecution of Venezuelan migrants in the U.S. and the Western government campaign to criminalize them.
02:00It is an extraordinary coordination effort.
02:06It is a teamwork effort.
02:08But it also has to do with the instruction given by the president to bring Venezuelans back from wherever they are.
02:14It is difficult to find an operation similar to what we do in Venezuela.
02:19There is a real plan to attract migrants.
02:22That's what we do in Venezuela.
02:26And through an official communique, the Venezuelan government categorically rejected a statement
02:31issued by the International Court of Justice regarding the provisional measures requested by Guayana against the Venezuelan electoral process
02:39for the selection of authorities in the state of Guayana Ezequiva.
02:42In the statement, which described the measures as abusive and interventionist,
02:47Venezuela reaffirmed that it does not and will never recognize the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice,
02:53nor will it comply with any decision issued by it to settle the territorial dispute over the Guayana Ezequiva
03:00in a process that has been rigged from the outset and manipulated by anti-Venezuelan corporate interests
03:07that have nothing to do with justice.
03:10In the sense, the Bolivarian government stressed that this territorial dispute
03:13is governed by the 1966 Geneva Agreement, a legally binding instrument that established
03:20the obligation of the parties to settle the territorial dispute through a practical and mutually acceptable arrangement.
03:27Also adding that nothing in international law allows the International Court of Justice
03:32to interfere in matters that are exclusive to the domestic jurisdiction of Venezuela,
03:38nor to attempt to prohibit a sovereign act organized within the framework of its participatory political system
03:45and based on its constitution and national legislation.
03:49The statement goes on to underscore that Guayana Ezequiva is an inalienable part of Venezuelan territory
03:56and a legacy of their liberators.
03:59It defends in a historical, constitutional and moral mandate that unites the entire Bolivarian homeland.
04:06Finally, the Venezuelan reiterated its demand that the government of Guayana
04:11stop delaying direct negotiations and strictly comply with the Geneva Agreement
04:16as the sole valid path to a definite, peaceful and satisfactory settlement for both parties
04:22regarding the territory of the Guayana Ezequiva.
04:30And like every year in Venezuela for International Labor Day,
04:33workers across the country went to the streets to denounce the aggressions against their citizens
04:38and also their nation.
04:40More on this with our correspondent Bruno Falzi.
04:43In another demonstration of the popular power of the Bolivarian Revolution,
04:48in Caracas, a multitude of people marched to support the government
04:52and demand the end of United States economic sanctions against Venezuela.
04:57To all this revolutionary process that day by day has provided us with greater welfare and security
05:04in terms of food sovereignty, health, social security, in all aspects that we can mention,
05:09we are also protesting against the various sanctions and mistreatment that our Venezuelan people have experienced.
05:15The main demand was the release of a two-year-old baby, Michael Espinoza, kidnapped and separated from her family.
05:24She is keeping hostage by the Trump administration.
05:27Her mother was in prison in the USA and rescued by the Venezuelan government by one of their repatriation flight.
05:35Her father was sent to a prison in El Salvador.
05:39Venezuela is also marching for its population.
05:43that had to emigrate deceived when we could build a homeland here.
05:50And today we are experiencing a totally violent and subhuman situation
05:54such as the kidnapping of this baby of our compatriot Maitley.
05:59The situation also of her father and mother whose rights to freedom
06:02and to want to return to their homeland were violated.
06:07So today we also march for her.
06:09Bukele's government, subject to the interests of Washington,
06:14keeps more than 230 Venezuelan citizens in prison
06:18without accusation and right to defend themselves.
06:22Another reason for the march of the Venezuelan workers in this day
06:26to demand the release of their compatriots.
06:29to soon have in Venezuela and deliver in her arms to her mother
06:37this beautiful girl, Maikiles Espinosa.
06:39and very soon have in Venezuela the 253 Venezuelans kidnapped
06:52in the concentration camps of Naib Bukele.
06:55God is watching Naib Bukele.
07:03God is watching you.
07:08You know that you have committed one of the most serious errors of human rights violations,
07:14forced disappearance, and kidnapping.
07:18But sooner rather than later, there will be justice,
07:23and we will have our boys here,
07:27free, safe, and sound.
07:32The president, Nicolas Maduro, closed the act,
07:35enveloping a crown that listened to him with maximum attention,
07:39with a strong speech showing the harmony of people and their government.
07:44He promised to do all the possible efforts to rescue their kidnapped citizens.
07:52In the camera of Marcos da Silva, Bruno Fauci, Caracas, Venezuela, for Telesur.

08:14Welcome back to From the South.
08:42A 7.4-magneted earthquake hit the southern coast of Chile and Argentina.
08:47Chilean authorities have issued a tsunami alert for the region.
08:50The quake was registered at 8.58 a.m. local time,
08:54and its epicenter was located 218.1 kilometers south of Puerto Williams in Chile,
09:01at a depth of 10 kilometers.
09:03Following the report, Chilean National Disaster Prevention and Response Service
09:08issued a tsunami alert and authorities requested the evacuation of the southern coastal area,
09:14while no similar alert has been issued in Argentina.
09:17In this context, Chilean President Gabriel Boric suspended his scheduled activities
09:22to monitor the evacuation measures from the government palace.
09:25At the time, no damage or casualties have been reported.
09:29In other news, in Ecuador, the Citizens Revolution Redo coalition denounced an attempt of obstruction
09:39on the part of the National Electoral Council upon receiving its appeal to challenge the results
09:44of the second round of elections.
09:46Our colleague, Gabriela Mena, with the details.
09:48It is official in Ecuador.
09:54The political coalition citizens, Revolution Redo,
09:57challenged the results of the presidential elections held on April 13th.
10:01The documentation was delivered on Wednesday, April 30th, around 11 p.m.,
10:06at which time the coalition publicly denounced that the National Electoral Council
10:10was seeking to obstruct the process.
10:12We were here at the door of the National Electoral Council at 11.06 a.m.
10:20They opened the door for us.
10:22Here at the Secretariat we entered at 11.26 p.m.
10:25We asked for a receipt.
10:27But they began to count all the tally sheets, and they entered us at this time.
10:31At the time when they finished counting the tally.
10:33When they finished checking them.
10:34That is, at 2.30 a.m. on May 1st.
10:44For the coalition, this decision alters the legal procedure,
10:48since, in its opinion, the National Electoral Council
10:50should have validated the exact time of arrival
10:53and not the time at which the tallying of the tally sheets by the electoral personnel ended.
10:57On this occasion, 13,917 tally sheets with irregularities were delivered.
11:04Furthermore, according to the Citizens Revolution,
11:07a total of 27,834 tally sheets have been delivered so far.
11:14And here we are with all the anomalies and all the obstructions
11:17we have had from the National Electoral Council.
11:19The organization also expressed that the National Electoral Council acts
11:27as a partial judge in benefit of Daniel Noboa,
11:31a point with which different organizations, unions, and political analysts agree,
11:36who have emphasized that this arbitrariness must be denounced
11:39before the Ecuadorian authorities.
11:40The announcements they are making are extremely serious,
11:47and this may constitute a critical news.
11:50If we had an independent prosecutor's office, which does not act selectively,
11:55the prosecutor's office should open an investigation
11:57and should carry out the proceedings urgently regarding this,
12:01because we must remember that electoral fraud is considered a criminal offense
12:04within the Organic Integral Penal Code.
12:06At the moment, the coalition has not discarded this option.
12:16However, for now, it remains expectant to the resolution
12:19to be taken by the plenary of the National Electoral Council,
12:22which will have to deal with the challenge in three days.
12:24According to several legislators of the Citizens Revolution,
12:27the only thing they are looking for is that the elections of April 13th be transparent
12:32and that the Ecuadorian people be given a voice.
12:36These irregularities not only affect the citizens,
12:41but also jeopardize the institutional credibility of the body
12:44in charge of guaranteeing the transparent electoral process,
12:49affects democracy, and the will of millions of Ecuadorians
12:52who expect to trust in state institutions,
12:54while these bodies act as an appendix of power generating partiality
12:57in the electoral process.
12:58Meanwhile, the coalition remains one step ahead and signed that.
13:09In case of receiving a new refusal from the C&E,
13:11they will challenge the results before the contentious electoral court,
13:15which in a maximum of 15 days should decide whether or not to allow the challenge.
13:20The decision taken by the contentious electoral court may not be appealed.
13:24No podrá ser apelada.
13:26Gabriela Mena, Telesur, Ecuador.
13:29And in other news, the Trump administration abrogated the minimis exception for goods imports from China.
13:37This way, via an executive order, Trump is to set a value equal or less than $800
13:43to all imported merchandise which had been sent without postal network.
13:48This measure started to be enforced as of May 2,
13:53which would affect shipments that were previously exempt from duties.
13:58Thus, it would benefit paramount e-commerce platforms such as Temu and Sheen.
14:03Likewise, postal shipments with a value of up to $800
14:07would face a 30% tariff of their worth or a flat rate of $25 per shipment,
14:14which would romp up to $50 per shipment as of June 1st.
14:24And in Spain, the garbage workers' strike has ended in Madrid
14:27after six days with workers achieving labor improvements
14:30after months of block negotiations.
14:33Still, the strike has left an image of unhealthiness in the city that still persists.
14:38Álvaro Fragua gives us more information.
14:43The accumulation of garbage in Madrid's neighborhoods continues
14:46and is already causing a sanitation crisis.
14:50For days after the end of the waste collection strike,
14:52neighbors denounced the deterioration of the public space.
14:56I don't know what is going on.
14:58The only thing I know is that it is a shame how Madrid is full of garbage,
15:01that there are rats in the streets at night, and it is a shame.
15:05Then all the blame is put on the left, and then what does the mayor do?
15:10The crisis has not gone unnoticed by tourists.
15:15The image of Madrid has been affected by unemployment,
15:18the electricity blackout, and the slowness of the subsequent collection.
15:21This is not the first time I've been in Madrid.
15:26I like the city a lot, but this time it's a little bit different than the others.
15:31I really think it's a little bit dirtier.
15:33There is a lot of garbage in the street, and this has impressed me.
15:40Workers accuse the concessionaires of having blocked negotiations for months.
15:46According to them, the strike was the last resort to stop the cuts and sign a decent agreement.
15:53We had been negotiating for an expired collective bargaining agreement for garbage collection in the city,
15:58and the companies did not reach any type of agreement.
16:01We had to reach a conflict and strike to solve the problem.
16:03In view of the seriousness of the situation,
16:09Mayor José Martínez Almeida has defended the role of the Madrid City Council
16:13and announced fines of up to 1.6 million euros against companies for not respecting minimum services.
16:22We are working so that between today and tomorrow morning,
16:25normality can be restored also in the area of garbage collection.
16:29We have to start from the basis that there had been a garbage collection strike
16:32that had accumulated that we are working to recover normality.
16:37The unions claim that the workers have complied with the minimum services.
16:42From the first moment, we have complied with the minimum services 100 percent.
16:47I don't know what the companies have done.
16:52The strike ended leaving more than 8,000 tons of waste,
16:56but garbage bags are still piling up in the streets of many districts.
16:59If the garbage is left uncollected for six days or 50 percent is collected,
17:05then it will take three or four days to collect the garbage again because the personnel is the same.
17:10No more personnel is hired and they have a daily workday.
17:15The balance of the strike leaves a 24 percent wage increase over six years for the nearly 2,000 workers.
17:23Local residents and tourists are waiting for a return to normality.
17:27And the garbage conflict beyond the dirt has revealed the shortcomings of a privatized management model.
17:35We have a second short break coming up.

17:58No?
18:11No?
18:11Welcome back to From the South.
18:26We continue with more information.
18:28The Palestinian Authority in the Gaza Strip denounced that this Friday the genocidal Israeli
18:33regime is using hunger as a weapon of war.
18:36The Gaza government press office denounced Israel's blockade and destruction of accesses
18:42to food, medical supplies and other humanitarian supplies destined for the Palestinian people.
18:48In this regard, the authorities stress that these actions are a flagrant violation of
18:52international humanitarian law and the Geneva Convention.
18:56Furthermore, the agency stressed that the Zionist siege caused the death of thousands
19:02of civilians, mainly children, and exposes others to the danger of starvation.
19:15In this context, the Indonesian Foreign Minister Harta Sugiono denounced on Thursday that Israel
19:21before the International Court of Justice for causing the worst humanitarian disaster of
19:27the 21st century in the Gaza Strip.
19:30The head of diplomacy declared that at the Court of The Hague, which is part of the sessions
19:36that would lead the United Nations General Assembly to preserve the rights of the Palestinian people.
19:42Sugiono recalled that the protection of human rights is not suspended in wartimes and recommended
19:48Israel respecting the functions of the international humanitarian organizations, including UMRA.
19:54Overall, the minister reaffirmed that his country rejected the forced displacement of thousands
19:59of Palestinians from their lands.
20:01A ship belonging to the Freedom Plotilla Initiative carrying humanitarian aid and activists to Gaza
20:13was attacked by a drone in the early hours of Friday in international waters of Malta.
20:19The conscience vessel, which had 12 crew members and four activists on board, was approximately
20:2622.5 kilometers east of Malta when it suffered two attacks from a drone.
20:31The strikes, which appeared to have been deliberately targeting the generator, left the crew without
20:37power and put the vessel at serious risk of sinking.
20:40Activists on board the ship were reportedly on a mission to challenge Israel's illegal siege
20:47of Gaza and to deliver aid amid the humanitarian crisis in the Strip.
20:52In this context, the Freedom Plotilla International Coalition pointed to the Zionist regime as the
20:58strike's main possible perpetrator.
21:00The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Defense Minister Israel Katz announced on Friday that
21:13the occupation forces had taken the offensive near the presidential palace in Damascus capital of Syria.
21:20The Israeli forces targeted those who had been their allies in overthrowing the Al-Assad government.
21:27The Zionist incursion occurred amid clashes between the Druze minority and pro-government fighters.
21:34In this context, the Prime Minister said Israel wouldn't allow the sending of forces to the south of Damascus
21:40or another threat to the Druze community.
21:43This in the context of an internal conflict between ethnic groups and factions in Syria,
21:49triggered by the coup d'etat staged by terrorist forces who are now in power.
21:56And the Burkinaabe people took to the streets on Thursday to express their support for General and President Ibrahim Chaoré
22:04alongside the entire military junta that he leads.
22:07Demonstrations happened in the face of threats to a coup d'etat and dangerous statements made by generals from the Pentagon.
22:15The Burkinaabe population gathered in the country's capital to defend him and repudiate the statements of the head of the U.S. Armed Forces in Africa,
22:24Michael Langley, whom they described as a slave.
22:29The Burkinaabe government took over its gold resources to invest them in social programs
22:35and such management was labeled by the Washington official in a Senate hearing as threatening.
22:41These allegations coincided with an insurrectional movement neutralized by the Traore administration.
22:48And the Vatican entered the countdown to the elections of Pope Francis' successor with an extensive technological deployment to shield the security of the upcoming conclave.
23:03This way, the smokestack has already been installed and the Vatican has informed on the implementation of a full digital blackout to prevent any attempt at electronic expionage.
23:15The initiative was explained by the director of the Vatican Press Room, who stated that in the digital era, extreme measures must be taken to guarantee the secrecy of the conclave in an inviolable way and demand to the process since the 13th century.
23:34Out of the 190 cardinals who took part in the days of reflection after the pontiff's passing, 100 will hold the responsibility of electing the new pope.
23:49And like this, we have come to the end of this news brief.
