00:14that evidences ExxonMobil's lobbying efforts against oil subsidiaries in the Latin American
00:18nation.
00:19In Palestine, the people of Gaza condemned Israel's decision to cut off the electricity
00:29supply in the territory.
00:38China's tariffs on U.S. agricultural goods go into effect on Monday in response to recent
00:43fees set by Washington.
00:51Hello welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Delesio Studios in Caracas,
00:56Venezuela.
00:57We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:14The executive vice president of Venezuela, Delesio Rodriguez, unveiled on Monday a document
01:18that evidences ExxonMobil's lobbying efforts against oil subsidiaries in the Latin American
01:22nation.
01:23In her remarks, Rodriguez informed that ExxonMobil paid a lobbyist to have Chevron expelled from
01:28Venezuela.
01:29Furthermore, the high official denounced how the company has been conspiring against the
01:33nation for over a decade, in complicity with the government of Guyana, seeking to undermine
01:38its economic stability.
01:40In this regard, the executive vice president stressed that Guyana is not a victim but a
01:44protagonist who has been playing its role against the Bolivarian nation.
01:47In addition, Vice President Rodriguez condemned the unilateral coercive measures imposed against
01:52the country with the aim of affecting the oil sector, in spite of the negative consequences
01:58they would have on the Venezuelan population.
02:01Rodriguez also denounced the involvement of the opposition in this matter, which has done
02:06everything possible to damage the country's economic stability.
02:19These ideologists produced a document, that is this document.
02:25What was the purpose of this document?
02:28To influence the decision makers and the authorities of the United States administration in order
02:33to say that more sanctions not only, obviously, cause great economic suffering in the population,
02:40but also generate possibilities of regime change.
02:45If you see here, because they refer to something that is a lie, they say that a period of humanitarian
02:52measures in favor of Venezuela.
02:55In the years 2016, 2020, 74% of the unilateral coercive measures against Venezuela are concentrated.
03:08Likewise, the Venezuelan vice president denounced that in the event of any threat against any
03:13state authority, they will hold the U.S. company ExxonMobil responsible.
03:22They are asking for more internal political pressure, more internal political pressure.
03:26What are they referring to?
03:29The coup d'etat?
03:33They are trying, they are trying, incessantly, they are trying, they have already tried,
03:39they are trying to undermine the territorial integrity of Venezuela.
03:42They have already tried.
03:45I denounce, responsibly, that if something happens to a high authority of the Bolivarian
03:53Republic of Venezuela, I hold the ExxonMobil directly responsible for the plans it has
03:58against Venezuela.
04:00Moreover, Rodriguez denounced that ExxonMobil paid to get Chevron oil company out of Venezuela.
04:08It is a strategy paid by ExxonMobil.
04:15There is the evidence, here it is.
04:17It is said by a former minister of Guyana, it is not said by President Nicolas Maduro,
04:21the vice president, Diosdado Cabello, Jorge Rodriguez, no.
04:26It is said by the former minister who was the one who managed and negotiated the contract
04:31with ExxonMobil, who says there how he was paid, what he was paid for and this document,
04:36in fact, to withdraw licenses to transnational companies, among them the most important one,
04:42an American company, Chevron, which has been in Venezuela for more than 100 years.
04:48This document was made by the same ideologists who intend to attack Venezuela in order to
04:52steal the oil that belongs to Venezuelans.
04:56The president has said it, this is a shot in the foot, this step taken by the United
05:00States is a shot in the foot.
05:03In other news, in Honduras, presidential pre-candidates Cristi Moncada, Salvador Nathralla and Nathri
05:16Asura declared themselves as the winners of the primary elections in their respective
05:20parties.
05:21To this moment, the National Electoral Council of Honduras continues the vote counting.
05:24As the three main political organizations, which are the Libre, the National Party and
05:29the Liberal Party, decide their candidates, more than 5.8 million Hondurans were summoned
05:35to vote this Sunday in elections marked by technological advances and a continued process
05:39of democratic recovery after the country was submerged in a deep social crisis.
05:44The winning presidential pre-candidates in these first contests will face each other
05:47in the general elections of November 30, 2025, when the country will choose its next president,
05:52deputies and mayors.
05:59Several Panamanian unions have been picketing to reject the social security fund bill passed
06:07by the National Assembly.
06:09In this context, the People United for Life Alliance announced their governmental plans
06:13to take over the entity's funds to privatize them with an individual system, which was
06:18the proposal of the popular movement.
06:20Likewise, the Alliance denounced legislators' maneuvers in their attempt to both raise the
06:24retirement age and offer lower pensions that are far from being profitable.
06:29In addition, social movements warned that they had a list of over 15 possible sources
06:34where funds could be siphoned from the state.
06:46The 69th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women kicked off on Monday
06:51at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to focus on gender equality and empowerment.
06:56The session, which will take place until March 21, will review the Beijing Declaration and
07:00Platform for Action and assess the challenges affecting its implementation.
07:05In the past, the Commission has addressed challenges such as climate change, gender-based
07:09violence and the need to ensure women's full participation in decision-making and development
07:13strategies.
07:14Previous meetings led to a consensus on solutions to end women's poverty, ranging from investing
07:20in policies and programs to address gender inequalities.

08:11In Palestine, the people of Gaza condemned Israel's decision to cut off the electricity
08:15supply in the territory.
08:17The event occurred on Sunday night after the Israeli State Minister of Energy Eli Cohen
08:21ordered the suspension of the electric power service in the Palestinian enclave.
08:26The announcement of the power cut coincides with the release of documents revealing the
08:30Zionist regime's intentions to intensify its illegal military operations in Gaza.
08:35Various humanitarian agencies have stated that the disruption of power supplies severely
08:39damages essential infrastructure in the territory and could have devastating consequences.
08:46We sleep without electricity, wash our clothes by hand, cook with wood, and there is no gas
08:57for cooking.
08:58Now our lives depend on wood, fire, and candles.
09:04We went back to 50 years ago, to using candles.
09:09Israel cut off electricity since the beginning of the war and announced cutting off water
09:14and electricity to the Gaza Strip.
09:16Consequently, we have been living without electricity for more than 15 months since
09:21Israel declared war on Gaza.
09:23The alternative is a generator in the street.
09:26There is no other alternative and the cost is high.
09:30An Israeli NGO condemned as collective punishment for Palestinians' discard of electricity
09:35supply to Gaza.
09:38The desalination facility in Deir el-Balakh was providing 18,000 cubic meters of water
09:46before the cut off of electricity.
09:49So last night the electricity was shut off and the plant stopped functioning.
09:54Today it's expected to start running on backup generators and we'll be able to provide
09:59only 2,500 cubic meters of water.
10:02Israel is saying that it's cutting off the supply as a form of pressure, as a tactic
10:09to press Hamas to continue in phase one of the ceasefire arrangement to release more
10:15hostages.
10:16From Gisha's perspective, this is collective punishment.
10:20The stopping of humanitarian aid, the deliberate stopping of supply of electricity, of water,
10:26of medicine to the civilian population amounts to a war crime.
10:31It is Israel's obligation to supply these things to the civilian population.
10:40And the Hamas-Palestinian resistance movement confirmed that several talks have been held
10:44with the U.S. on the ceasefire deal in Qatar.
10:47The senior Hamas leader told the U.S. delegation that they do not oppose the release of prisoners.
10:52Daily Israel had reported to be preparing for negotiations so that it sent Monday a
10:56delegation to Doha to discuss on the deal.
10:58Overall, the conversations aim at moving to the next stage of the deal, which could
11:02pave the way for ending the war.
11:04However, the first phase of the ceasefire deal ended last week.
11:08Since then, Israel has imposed a full siege on all humanitarian aid entering Palestine.
11:22The United States claims to expect substantial progress in Ukraine talks to be held in Saudi
11:27Arabia on Tuesday.
11:28It has been stated by Trump's Middle East envoy Steve Whitkoff on Monday.
11:32Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to arrive in the kingdom while the U.S.
11:36delegation made up of Whitkoff and Secretary of State Marco Rubio hopes to close mineral
11:40deals as well as move forward in a peace agreement and ceasefire.
11:44For his part, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated that what the U.S. and everyone
11:48are waiting for is a definite sign of Ukraine's desire for peace.
11:58And U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced that USAID will cancel the majority
12:05of its programs.
12:06In his ex-account, Rubio stated that after a six-week review, they are officially canceling
12:1183 percent of programs at USAID.
12:14According to the U.S. diplomat, the 5,200 contracts that are now canceled spent tens
12:19of billions of dollars in ways that did not serve the core national interests of the
12:23United States.
12:25He also added that in consultation with Congress, they intend for the remaining 18 percent of
12:29programs they are keeping to now be administered more effectively on the State Department.
12:34The USAID agency was created in 1961 to distribute humanitarian aid through international programs
12:40in 120 countries.
12:43Also, in the United States, five people were injured after a small plane crashed in the
12:47parking lot of a retirement community in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
12:51The accident occurred at about 3.18 p.m. local time when the plane, a single-engine Beechcraft
12:57Bonanza, crashed in the Bethlehem Village retirement community in Manhattan Township,
13:02said Scott Lito, leader of the Department of Homeland Security.
13:06The crash occurred at about 3.18 p.m. local time when the plane, a single-engine Beechcraft
13:11Bonanza, crashed in the Bethlehem Village retirement community in Manhattan Township,
13:15said Scott Lito, leader of the Department of Homeland Security.
13:18He also detailed that five people aboard the aircraft were injured and were taken to local
13:22hospitals.
13:23About a dozen vehicles were damaged in the incident, while the building of the retirement
13:27center was not structurally damaged and no injuries were reported on the ground.
13:37A small six-seater aircraft, a Beechcraft Bonanza, crashed here on the property of Brethren
13:44Village.
13:46Five passengers were on board.
13:49All five passengers were transported by local EMS agencies to local hospitals for treatment.

14:42In China, new tariffs on U.S. agricultural goods go into effect this Monday and measure
14:46imposing response to recent fees set by Washington against Chinese products.
14:50Precisely, the Asian nation will apply a 15% tax on chicken, wheat, corn and cotton, while
14:56goods such as soybeans, pork, beef, fruit and dairy products will be subject to a 10%
15:01tariff.
15:02In this context, the Chinese government assured that the current trade situation between the
15:05two countries is the result of market dynamics and not of a deliberate intention by the country
15:11to generate a trade deficit in the United States.
15:13Trade with China has historically allowed the U.S. to import quality products at lower
15:18cost, benefiting consumers and fostering job creation in several sectors.
15:23The Vatican authorities informed that Pope Francis' condition remained stable after a
15:36quiet Sunday night.
15:37In addition, the press office of the Holy See underscored the Pope's case complexity
15:42and its reserved prognosis, but stated the pontiff continues with his treatment and has
15:47resumed his respiratory and motor therapies.
15:49They also informed a rosary will be held on Monday to pray for the Pope's health.
15:54Furthermore, they unveiled the pontiff was briefed on the floods in Argentina and expressed
15:58closeness and prayers to the people affected.
16:10Meanwhile, in the northeastern Upper Nile state of South Sudan, clashes broke out between
16:14forces allied to the President Salva Kiir and First Vice President Riek Machar, posing
16:19a threat to the 2018 governmental alliance.
16:22Last week, an armed youth militia attacked the Sudanese armed forces, from which the
16:26police arrested two government ministers and a deputy army chief, allied to Machar.
16:31In this context, a UN helicopter was shot Friday amid a rescue mission killing a crew
16:35member.
16:36In response to the incident, the chair of the UN Commission on Human Rights in the country,
16:41Yasmin Zuka, urged for peace as she warned the nation was at the brink of a civil war.
16:46Meanwhile, the U.S. administration withdrew Sunday all its non-emergency staff from South
16:50Sudan amid the ongoing confrontations.
17:04And Gabon's interim president, Bryce Oligigema, will face three challengers in presidential
17:09polls, which are set to take place on April 12.
17:12The official list was published by the Interior Minister on Sunday, including his main challenger,
17:17Alain-Claude-Billy Bidensi.
17:19In addition to the former executive of the Gabonese Democratic Party, Dr. Stefan German-Loco
17:24and lawyer and tax inspector Joseph Lapensi-Zigon, 19 others were rejected, but given 72 hours
17:31in which to lodge an appeal with the Constitutional Court.
17:34Oligigema came to power in a 2023 military coup that ended the longstanding rule of his
17:39predecessor, Ali Bongo, and his family.
17:41All four are running as independents, with campaigning scheduled to begin on March 29.
17:46Internationally acclaimed South African playwright and actor Athol Fugard died on Sunday at age
18:0792.
18:08Fugard was widely known as an anti-apartheid figure and left behind a powerful legacy of
18:13works like Master Harold and The Boys and Since We Bounced He's Dead, works that have
18:18shaped theater in the African country.
18:21The South African government confirmed his death by stating that the nation had lost
18:25one of its greatest literary and theatrical icons.
18:28President Cyril Ramaphosa describes him as the moral conscience of a generation.
18:32You know, during the 40 years of apartheid, I was a very blinkered writer.
18:43I had one focus, which was to try and say as much as I could about that terrible system
18:51and what it was doing to people.
18:53Now, of course, that is past history.
18:57And the Captain's Tiger, I suppose, represents an attempt on my side to use the new freedoms
19:05that are there for us artists in the new South Africa.
