00:00From ingredients to portion sizes, we wanted to know all the differences between Shake
00:03Shack and In-N-Out.
00:05This is Food Wars.
00:07This isn't a standard Food Wars episode.
00:09We're pitting two different U.S. chains against each other, which means we're gonna do things
00:12slightly differently.
00:13We're gonna be keeping score as we go, and at the end, we'll decide objectively which
00:17chain is the best.
00:20Here's everything you can get at an In-N-Out burger.
00:22Here's everything you can get at a Shake Shack.
00:24I'm gonna make a case on why I think the In-N-Out menu is better.
00:28I've been to a lot of In-N-Out, I've been to a lot of Shake Shacks, but today I am going
00:32to make the case as to why I think the Shake Shack menu is just better.
00:36But the points will be awarded by our independent referee, which should be Harry, popping in
00:42somewhere.
00:43You are absolutely right, Nico.
00:45To make sure this is fair, I'm gonna step in as the neutral referee on a nice clean fight.
00:49Let's go.
00:50Obviously, these are two different restaurants, so everything is gonna be an exclusive,
00:54but we're gonna start off with the burgers.
00:56The Shake Shack burgers consist of the cheeseburger, hamburger, the shackburger, which is my personal
01:02favorite, bacon cheeseburger, the smoke shack, the shroom burger, the shack stack, which is
01:08a shroom burger and a regular burger stacked on top of each other.
01:12I am not the biggest fan of mushrooms, but it looks pretty good.
01:16This is a huge burger.
01:18The shroom part of this shack stack looks empty.
01:25Like, it looks really empty in there.
01:27It looks hollow.
01:29It tastes really, really good.
01:31I'm very surprised because I really don't like mushrooms, but this works really well with
01:35the regular patty.
01:36Because I'm having a hard time finding the mushroom in the shack stack, I do kind of
01:41want to taste the shroom burger on its own to see if it's any more obvious.
01:48The shroom burger on its own is definitely a lot more mushroomy, but still, I feel like
01:53the main flavor you get is of whatever this crispy coating is, which tastes pretty delicious.
01:59In-N-Out has fewer burger options, but they also have a not-so-secret menu with even more
02:04burgers.
02:05These first three are on the official In-N-Out menu.
02:08Starting down here, we got the hamburger and, of course, cheeseburger.
02:12This to me is probably what I get every time.
02:14I like the cheese with the onions, yeah.
02:20Then the double-double or the double cheeseburger.
02:22Next, we have the veggie shack.
02:24I also want to take a bite of this.
02:26I feel like this is just another one of those cases where I'm not really getting the full
02:31flavor of the patty because everything else is kind of overwhelming.
02:35The pickles and the fried onions is mainly what I taste.
02:39Then we have the avocado bacon burger.
02:41Believe it or not, there is avocado in here.
02:44We also have a new burger, which is the spicy shackmeister.
02:47It has cherry peppers in it, some fried onion, and a seasoning.
02:54I don't think I know anything about cherry peppers.
02:56They kind of taste a little bit pickled, like there's just like a little brininess to them
03:00that's actually pretty tasty.
03:02Now the not-so-secret menu has the double meat, that's two beef patties.
03:06You do protein style, which replaces the buns with lettuce.
03:12Animal style, which animal style is Thousand Island dressing, diced onions, and pickles.
03:17I don't like pickles, but Thousand Island dressing and diced onions?
03:22Let's go.
03:23The vinegariness of the pickles with the Thousand Island and the onions, very nice.
03:31Very nice addition.
03:31And as seen before, the 3x3 and the 4x4, which is three patties of meat, three slices of cheese,
03:39or four patties of meat, four slices of cheese.
03:43Come on guys, you're getting this, you're just showing off.
03:46I would argue you're better off getting two double cheeseburgers than the 4x4.
03:53I think Shake Shack gets one point for having more options, I think selection is a good thing.
03:57I'm almost tempted to deduct a point from In-N-Out for that lettuce burger, but I'll let it slide for now.
04:01Apparently a quad burger with four patties existed at some point on the unofficial Shake Shack secret menu.
04:08The option to add more patties seems to be gone now, so we're just going to Frankenstein our own quad burger.
04:13All right, I can do it, okay.
04:16Don't look at me, everyone turn around.
04:21I would never order that, that's just like way too much meat to be enjoyable right now.
04:29Um, but, it, it is possible.
04:33Anything is possible.
04:36Moving on to the chicken options, Shake Shack offers the Avocado Bacon Chicken, the Chicken Shack, the Hot Chicken, and Chicken Bites, which look really, really good.
04:45I actually haven't seen a spicy chicken sandwich on their menu for a while.
04:49I feel like this is a recent addition, so I do want to taste it.
04:57That's a really good chicken sandwich.
04:58I feel like a lot of people sleep on the chicken options at Shake Shack.
05:01They're all really, really good.
05:03And I do feel like this looks more filling than their regular burgers.
05:07It just looks like a hearty piece of chicken.
05:10I do want to try one of the chicken bites too.
05:12I'm going to use some Shack sauce.
05:14I'm a dipper.
05:15I need sauce always.
05:18They're good.
05:19They're just a lot saltier than the chicken patties in any of their chicken sandwiches, which is confusing to me.
05:25If you're in the mood for chicken, do not come to In-N-Out because they have none.
05:29In-N-Out hasn't changed the menu since 1976, so I don't think they're planning on adding chicken to the menu anytime soon.
05:35In-N-Out's small menu seems to be working out for them really well, though.
05:38They make everything fresh, so it probably helps simplifying day-to-day operations.
05:43Plus, bigger menus means increased costs.
05:45You made a pretty good case there, Joe, but I think Shake Shack still gets one point for having chicken options.
05:49We also have a couple non-burger options.
05:52There's a grilled cheese and a BLT.
05:54I love when a restaurant makes their sandwiches with grilled burger buns.
05:59Like, the grilled cheese with the burger buns is very elite to me, and I don't know why.
06:02It just tastes really good.
06:03It's, like, extra buttery, extra delicious.
06:06I don't know what it is.
06:07In-N-Out also has a grilled cheese.
06:09Pretty much the only vegetarian menu item they have that isn't a side or a milkshake.
06:12If you're not in the mood for a burger, Shake Shack also has hot dogs.
06:16They started out as a hot dog place, so it's kind of cool that they've held onto the tradition of making hot dogs.
06:22You'll notice that they slice their hot dogs right down the middle.
06:25This method helps cook the hot dogs more evenly.
06:28I personally love the split hot dogs.
06:30I love all the caramelization that you get, but I don't think Joe is a fan.
06:34Yeah, split hot dog.
06:35I hate it.
06:36Completely pointless.
06:36Doesn't change the taste of it at all.
06:39Flag on the play.
06:40Look at the state of that hot dog.
06:41No points for that one.
06:42For sides, we've got fries, cheese fries, bacon cheese fries, spicy fries with ranch,
06:48and spicy cheese fries with ranch.
06:51These are new to the menu.
06:52I don't know if they're going to be permanent forever, but we were able to get them today.
06:56We as a nation just cannot stay away from the ranch, can we?
07:00I've never even heard of, like, ranch and fries together.
07:03Not even as, like, a dipping sauce with regular fries.
07:07Oh my god, no.
07:08I've never heard of that.
07:09I kind of want to try the fry without the ranch first.
07:12Hold on.
07:14It's that same spicy seasoning that we saw on that chicken sandwich and on one of the burgers.
07:19It is really spicy when it's so liberally applied.
07:24I do think that these fries are definitely better with the ranch than without it, and it also helps
07:32tame some of that spiciness.
07:34This is interesting.
07:35I don't know if I'm fully sold on dipping fries in ranch, but it doesn't taste bad.
07:39In-N-Out does have fries, and I'm sorry, but this is where In-N-Out suddenly becomes not so great.
07:45You can get various customizations and secret menu ones.
07:49The fries, ugh, just avoid them.
07:52Right here are the regular fries.
07:54Let's take a bite.
07:56Terrible.
07:57I also got the animal-style fries.
07:58Light onion, Thousand Island cheese.
08:04Better.
08:05You can also get Asper Fries Well Done, where I think they cook them twice or just make them
08:09extra crispy.
08:10They're not—the problem is they're not very salty.
08:14You can also get cheese fries.
08:17Not bad.
08:19Yeah, because it puts cheese on them.
08:20You can also get something called Roadkill Fries, which is animal-style, plus a beef patty.
08:24I asked there, and the guy said,
08:25you can give me animal-style and a beef patty.
08:27I got to make it myself.
08:28Whatever.
08:29Also, lemon pepper fries, where it's, again,
08:31just do—take a lemon wedge and squeeze it on your fries and then pepper them.
08:36I'm not doing that.
08:37I'm not the first person to say it.
08:39These fries are not good.
08:40I like the animal-style and I like the cheese fries because
08:43they both have cheese on it and sauce and fun stuff.
08:46But yeah, these fries, like, not only are they weak, but they're bland and dry.
08:54No good.
08:54Joe, you're not doing a very good job of advocating for In-N-Out there.
08:57I'm gonna have to give Shayshak the point.
08:58Those fries look better.
08:59It's time for Sauce Talk.
09:02Sauce Talk.
09:02Sauce Talk.
09:05Sauce Talk.
09:07For exclusive sauces, we only have the Shack sauce.
09:10The real sauce recipe is a secret, but they give a close enough recipe in the Shake Shack cookbook.
09:16This sauce contains Hellmann's mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, Heinz ketchup, kosher dill pickling brine—
09:22interesting—and cayenne pepper.
09:24I think the Shake Shack sauce is a really good burger sauce that just works well with any food.
09:29In-N-Out has their own special sauce known as spread.
09:32And the recipe is top secret, but there are a bunch of copycat recipes out there.
09:35That is what's part of the animal style, and we saw it on some of the burgers earlier.
09:39It is possible the sauce contains mayo, ketchup, sweet pickle relish, and white wine vinegar.
09:45It tastes exactly like a Thousand Island dressing.
09:48Those sauces just sound the same.
09:50You can both have a point.
09:51As for soft drinks, Shake Shack offers Coke, Diet Coke, Dr. Pepper, Fanta Orange, Sprite,
09:57Ginger Ale, Coke Zero, Draft Root Beer, Shaq Made Lemonade, 50-50 Lemonade, which is half iced tea,
10:03half lemonade, strawberry lemonade, and dragon fruit pomegranate lemonade, which you can order caffeinated.
10:08And you can also get organic Harnie & Sons iced tea and Honest Kids organic apple juice.
10:14I am a lemonade lover.
10:15I really like the lemonade at Shake Shack, but what I am interested in trying is this new
10:19Harvest Berry Lemonade.
10:21These are caffeinated.
10:22They have like a few different flavors, and they have all these odd ingredients that I've just never
10:27heard put together.
10:29Here are those ingredients.
10:30Cinnamon was the ingredient that really jumped out at me, because I'm like,
10:33cinnamon in my lemonade.
10:35That's kooky.
10:37It has a slightly medicinal taste that reminds me of tea, but not like a fun iced tea,
10:44just like when you're sick and you're drinking tea.
10:46But it's not bad.
10:47I can definitely taste the cinnamon, and it's just a little off-putting because of the tartness,
10:52and then I get the cinnamon.
10:53I don't know.
10:53It's not like super working well together for me, but it's not bad.
10:58At In-N-Out, you have an option of Coke, Diet Coke, 7-Up, Dr. Pepper,
11:02Root Beer, Pink Lemonade, and Minute Maid Zero Sugar Lemonade.
11:07You can also get iced tea, coffee, milk, and hot chocolate.
11:11I think Shake Shack gets one more point for the soft drinks.
11:13They look pretty good.
11:14And if you describe something as like tea, I'm going to vote for it.
11:17We cannot forget about the milkshakes.
11:19I love Shake Shack milkshakes.
11:21They have their core flavors that are always on the menu.
11:24Vanilla, chocolate, which also has a non-dairy option, vanilla and chocolate,
11:29strawberry, black and white, and cookies and cream.
11:32They do seasonal flavors pretty often.
11:34Right now, they have the triple chocolate brownie shake and the Oreo cookie funnel cake shake.
11:39The black and white shake and the chocolate and vanilla shake are actually different things.
11:43I didn't realize this at first, but this is the black and white shake.
11:46This is vanilla custard with fudge syrup mixed all up in there,
11:50which gives it like a little chocolatey taste.
11:52I just feel like it's going to taste like a chocolate milkshake.
11:55I don't really get why it's its own flavor.
11:57The vanilla and chocolate shake flavor is just the vanilla custard
12:00and the chocolate custard mixed together.
12:02I'm actually going to take a sip of the regular chocolate milkshake too.
12:07This one tastes slightly different.
12:09I feel like the black and white and possibly the vanilla and chocolate just taste very,
12:15very similar.
12:16They shouldn't be two separate flavors,
12:18but the chocolate milkshake tastes like I'm drinking chocolate ice cream.
12:20It's really, really good.
12:21I do want to taste the non-dairy.
12:23I've never had a non-dairy milkshake before.
12:27No.
12:27It kind of just tastes like chocolate almond milk.
12:30Not for me.
12:31I believe this one is the Oreo cookie funnel cake shake.
12:35It sounds like a lot.
12:37I just feel like I have so many chocolate shakes sitting in front of me right now,
12:40and they're all starting to blend together in my mouth.
12:43I don't know what this tastes like, but it's not very good.
12:46They do make floats too.
12:47I love a good float.
12:48This is the creamsicle flavor.
12:50I believe it's radioactive orange.
12:54I don't know why it's so orange.
12:57Yeah, that's really good.
12:58All right, and this one is the classic root beer float.
13:02Delicious.
13:03It tastes so good with the vanilla custard specifically.
13:07If you want something more classically dessert-y,
13:09you can get their frozen custard, which comes in vanilla,
13:12chocolate, or dairy-free chocolate.
13:14They really love the dairy-free chocolate at Shake Shack.
13:18It's a choice.
13:19Let's see how the custard tastes on its own.
13:23It's delicious.
13:24The vanilla is really, really good.
13:25This is the dairy-free chocolate custard.
13:30No.
13:30In-N-Out has three flavors of milkshakes.
13:34Vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry.
13:36But you can mix them together to create whatever flavor combination you want.
13:39I did not do that.
13:40I'm a shake purist, so I wanted to make sure that I got the actual flavors that they offer.
13:47The strawberry shake is so good.
13:48It's so good.
13:50Chocolate.
13:51Oh, no, that's really good, too.
13:53And vanilla.
13:54You know, don't sleep on vanilla.
13:57People are like, yeah, vanilla's basic, but this is a good vanilla shake.
14:00You can also get a root beer float, which is root beer and...
14:05You don't have ice cream on the menu, right?
14:06So I'm assuming it's a vanilla shake.
14:09Whatever it is, it's really good.
14:11Come on.
14:11Going after A&W.
14:14I think it looks like Shake Shack has way more milkshake options,
14:17but I think it's just a lot of the same flavors reused in different ways.
14:20Joe seemed to really enjoy the limited options that he had,
14:23so I think maybe quality over quantity, but we'll say that you can both have a point.
14:29Starting off by comparing the burgers, this is an in-and-out cheeseburger.
14:33Iconic.
14:34Look at that.
14:35So we have one patty with a slice of cheese, a lot of onion, some lettuce, bun,
14:40and a slice of tomato.
14:43And we're going to do the same with the Shackburger.
14:46Top bun.
14:46Our wilted lettuce, two teeny tiny tomatoes, and then we have our patty.
14:52Obviously, I cannot separate the cheese from the patty.
14:54It's all kind of melted in there.
14:56And then we have our bottom bun.
14:58So a Shackburger is 162 grams.
15:02Point goes to In-N-Out.
15:03If that wasn't enough, at In-N-Out, you can also get a double-double,
15:06which is two patties and two slices of cheese,
15:08a three-by-three, which is three patties and three slices of cheese,
15:11and a four-by-four, which is, you guessed it,
15:13four patties and four slices of cheese.
15:15The Shackburger is also offered as a double,
15:18so you get two patties instead of one.
15:20Which chain gives you the biggest amount of fries?
15:22Here is an order of In-N-Out fries, and we're going to weigh them right now.
15:2599 grams.
15:26Shake Shack only offers one size of fries.
15:29Let's see how much they weigh.
15:30An order of fries at Shake Shack is 190 grams.
15:34Shake Shack bringing it back with the fries.
15:35That's the point.
15:36In-N-Out gives you four fountain drink sizes,
15:39the small, the medium, the large, and the extra large.
15:43The small at In-N-Out, let's do 12.
15:45The medium, 18 or 19?
15:48Okay, we'll be generous, let's do 19.
15:49And let's do 18, because it wouldn't be 19, right?
15:5218.
15:53I mean, this looks like it would be an extra large in most places.
15:55This is a lot.
15:5728, between 28 and 30.
15:59If only there was a number between 28 and 30.
16:01The extra large at In-N-Out.
16:03Oh, it's exactly 40 ounces, yo!
16:07Drinks at Shake Shack come in two sizes, small and large.
16:11Let's see how much we get in the large size.
16:13This is like one of the smaller large drinks I've ever seen from a fast food casual chain.
16:20So this is 24 ounces of soda.
16:22The large drink comes out to about a little under 700 milliliters or 24 ounces.
16:28I'm reluctantly giving the point to In-N-Out there, because I think 40 ounces,
16:32too much liquid.
16:3224 is more normal, but hey, rules are rules.
16:35Both chains offer milkshakes one size.
16:38Let's see how much milkshake you get at In-N-Out.
16:40From here, it looks like it's exactly 16 ounces.
16:42Good for you, In-N-Out.
16:44Let's see how much milkshake you get at Shake Shack.
16:47I think that this is 450 milliliters of milkshake, almost exactly.
16:52Shake Shack milkshake, slightly bigger, one point.
16:54I think it's fair to say that with fast food, people want value for their money.
17:02We're going to compare some prices and assign points based on how much food
17:05you're getting for what you pay.
17:07An In-N-Out cheeseburger will cost you $3.75.
17:10That is shockingly cheap.
17:11A cheeseburger at Shake Shack will cost you $7.49.
17:15Okay, so the whole cheeseburger was 194 grams from earlier.
17:19Remember that?
17:19So per 100, that's, okay, divide the price by the total gram weight, which is 194,
17:25but then I multiply that by 100.
17:28So that means it's $1.93 per 100 grams.
17:31A regular cheeseburger at Shake Shack comes out to around 138 grams,
17:35meaning that it's about 5 cents per gram or $5.42 per 100 grams.
17:41An order of fries that we got at In-N-Out was $2.30.
17:45Honestly, they should be paying me to eat these fries.
17:47Anyway, let's also find out how much it costs per 100 grams.
17:50It was 99 grams, it was $2.30.
17:54A fry is not even a gram.
17:57Can we just say it's $2.30 per 100 grams?
18:01We've all collectively agreed that we're fine.
18:03So it's $2.30 per 100 grams.
18:07At Shake Shack, an order of fries cost $4.09.
18:10An order of fries comes out to about 190 grams,
18:13making it 2 cents per gram or $2.15 per 100 grams.
18:19In-N-Out does seem ridiculously cheap.
18:20I think that's worth a point.
18:24Let's compare nutritional value of items that are most similar.
18:28A Shack Burger is 500 calories and contains 30 grams total fat,
18:3212 grams saturated fat, 105 milligrams of cholesterol,
18:36and 1,250 milligrams of sodium.
18:39An In-N-Out cheeseburger is 480 calories and contains 27 grams of total fat,
18:4510 grams of saturated fat, 60 milligrams of cholesterol,
18:49and 1,000 milligrams of sodium.
18:51The most calorific items on the Shake Shack menu right now are the Shack Stack at 770 calories,
18:57the Spicy Cheese Fries with Ranch at 870 calories,
19:01and the Oreo Cookie Funnel Cake Shake at 1,080 calories.
19:05For most calorific items on the official In-N-Out menu,
19:10we saw online that the Double Double with Onions is 670 calories,
19:14and the Strawberry Shake, the regular 15 or 16 ounce, is 590 calories.
19:20Now, as you are aware, In-N-Out has a secret menu, not-so-secret menu.
19:25So these calories we found on third-party sites,
19:28so can't confirm that this is 100% true,
19:31but according to smart people on the internet,
19:33the 4x4 burger is 1,470 calories,
19:38the Animal Style Fries is 750 calories,
19:41and if you get an extra-large strawberry shake, it's 1,180 calories.
19:48I'm not giving any points out for the nutrition.
19:49Live your life. I don't care.
19:55When it comes to ingredients, In-N-Out prides itself on not freezing,
19:58prepackaging, or microwaving any of its food.
20:00This actually might be the exact reason why the fries have such a bad rap.
20:04People really hate the In-N-Out fries, yes, including Chef David Chegg,
20:07who speculates it's because they don't freeze their fries
20:10when the potatoes are in peak season.
20:11They eventually have to use potatoes that are out of season
20:14and therefore not as good.
20:15But then again, they're always bad, so I don't know about that theory.
20:18Other theories on why In-N-Out fries aren't very good include the type of potato they're used
20:22and the way the fries are fried.
20:24They supposedly use Kennebik potatoes,
20:26which is definitely a unique choice for fast food restaurants.
20:29The go-to is russet potatoes.
20:31While Shake Shack's burgers are made fresh, their infamous crinkle-cut fries are frozen.
20:36In 2013, they actually switched from the frozen Yukon Gold crinkle-cut fries
20:41to hand-cut fries made from russet potatoes.
20:44Not only were these fries way harder to make, but people also just didn't like them.
20:48I'm not kidding. There was even a change.org petition.
20:51They ended up switching back to the frozen crinkle-cut fries in the fall of 2014,
20:55but this time they worked with their manufacturer to remove the artificial ingredients and preservatives.
21:00I'll admit, I don't love Shake Shack fries.
21:03I'm not a crinkle-cut kind of girl.
21:06I'm mainly there for the burgers and the shakes,
21:08but good on them for giving the people what they wanted.
21:11As for the meat used in the burgers,
21:13Shake Shack uses a custom blend of 100% Angus beef.
21:16And In-N-Out uses 100% USDA ground chuck.
21:20Shake Shack burgers are famously served on Martin's Potato Rolls.
21:24If you've ever been to a Shake Shack in person,
21:26you can see like rows and rows of Martin's Potato Rolls in the back.
21:30The owners, the Martin family, were exposed in 2022 for backing far-right Pennsylvania
21:36State Senator Doug Mastriano, who was seen crossing police lines during the January 6th attack on the
21:41Capitol. In 2022, a representative for Shake Shack told Insider,
21:45in regards to the actions of individuals associated with the Martin's Company and their personal
21:50political donations, those are the choices of those individuals and do not express the values
21:55of Shake Shack. We continue to be in active conversations with Martin's to express our concern.
22:00Switching to another potato roll seems like a very easy thing to do for a multi-billion dollar
22:05company like Shake Shack, but what do I know?
22:08In-N-Out gets their buns from Puritan Bakery in Carson, California.
22:12The buns are made by using the sponge and dough process,
22:14which produces buns that can withstand condiments and meat juice without falling apart.
22:18Another Shake Shack ingredient I have to mention is the frozen custard that they make in-house.
22:23I'm calling it an ingredient right now because it serves as a base for all of their milkshakes,
22:28and I swear this is why they taste so good. Milkshakes are typically made with ice cream.
22:33Frozen custard has all the same ingredients as ice cream, except it also includes egg yolks.
22:38So using frozen custard gives you an even richer milkshake.
22:41The milkshakes at Shake Shack are dense and sometimes hard to drink with a straw,
22:45but they taste so good.
22:46In-N-Out was founded in 1948 in Baldwin Park, California.
22:55And Shake Shack started out as a hot dog stand in Madison Square Park in 2001.
22:59It officially became the Shake Shack we know today in 2004.
23:02Wow, In-N-Out's got some history behind it. That's got to be worth a point.
23:05In-N-Out has 392 locations in the US, but all those locations are only in seven states.
23:09California, Texas, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and Oregon.
23:15California has the most locations by far with 271.
23:19That means 69% of all In-N-Outs in the US are in California. Nice!
23:25From the time of filming this, Shake Shack has 299 locations in the US.
23:30They're not region specific the way that In-N-Out is on the west coast,
23:33but most Shake Shacks are on the east coast.
23:36New York has the most locations with 49, but California is catching up really quickly.
23:40They currently have 40 locations.
23:42Shake Shack is also available in over 80 countries.
23:45There are over 400 locations worldwide.
23:48I think Shake Shack gets a point there for the availability.
23:50I like the fact that it's available not just on the east coast, but elsewhere,
23:53and even here in the UK and other parts of the world.
23:56In-N-Out feels like this constant, reliable, fast food chain, and Shake Shack is a fine,
24:19casual chain that's constantly adding and removing things from its menu.
24:23They do a lot of seasonal stuff.
24:25The rivalry is something we as the customers created.
24:29Everyone loves to compare these two.
24:30You know, I didn't really think there was much of a beef between Shake Shack and In-N-Out.
24:34Me personally, if I want Shake Shack, I want In-N-Out.
24:36I feel like the two don't really overlap as far as what I want from either one.
24:40That's my personal opinion.
24:41So I understand it's two businesses that are competing, but you know,
24:46I think both have coexisted just fine.
24:48Both chains give off different vibes that I do think are inspired by their regions.
24:53In-N-Out gives me more laid-back, beachy Americana.
24:57Shake Shack feels more minimalist and muted and modern.
25:01In-N-Out still feels like a traditional fast food restaurant.
25:05Yes, you can eat there, but the vibe is definitely hit the drive-through and go.
25:09Shake Shack is for sure on the pricier side.
25:12My go-to order usually comes out to about $17.
25:15That's $17 for a bacon cheeseburger, fries, and a milkshake.
25:19The founder described the concept for Shake Shack as fine casual,
25:23so they're not shying away from how pricey it is.
25:26This food was less expensive than almost all the fast food we've covered on Food Wars.
25:31Also, we got a little over $100 worth of food for this shoot.
25:37It took them maybe seven minutes to fill my order.
25:39I didn't call ahead, went in there, got everything.
25:41Listen, I've had both.
25:43And even though taste is obviously subjective,
25:46I just think Shake Shack's burger tastes better.
25:48Like, if you put both burgers in front of me without me knowing anything about them,
25:52I would always pick the Shake Shack burger as the better of the two.
25:56Aside from the delicious crispy burgers,
25:58I just like how many options I have at Shake Shack,
26:01and it's not like they do any one food better than the other.
26:04I think the chicken and the vegetarian options are also great.
26:07The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the plain fries,
26:10and I still think that they're better than the plain fries at In-N-Out, so...
26:14When people come and visit me in Los Angeles, which is rare because of my personality,
26:19they are like, I want to go to In-N-Out.
26:22Not with you, Joe, but I'm going to go to In-N-Out,
26:24and then later I find out that they enjoyed it and thought it was incredible.
