00:00Welcome to your afternoon weather update from the Met Office. It's all about the temperatures this week.
00:05Some pretty warm conditions by day and in places by night.
00:09Here's the bigger picture, the view from space actually shows quite a lot of cloud covering a good chunk of the country to start the working week.
00:16There's low pressure down to the southwest, but it's this area of high pressure that will dominate proceedings over the next few days.
00:24Everything's moving away to the north. The cloud tending to melt away over the next couple of days to reveal plenty of sunshine.
00:30But today it is still pretty grey across the far northwest of Scotland.
00:34Rain and drizzle on and off over parts of the highlands, the western Isles and even parts of the northern Isles too.
00:40But much of southern central Scotland dry, but a bit more cloud here.
00:44Same goes for northern Ireland and through parts of northwest England also.
00:47And that cloud just keeping the temperatures in the mid to high teens.
00:52And where we see some sunshine, parts of Aberdeenshire could get up to 20 Celsius, certainly further south.
00:57Across most of England and Wales, temperatures in the high teens or low 20s, 23, maybe 24, in and around the capital this afternoon.
01:05And those kind of numbers are quite a bit above the average for April.
01:10So, yes, it is pretty warm and it's only going to get warmer as we go through the next few days.
01:15That rain and drizzle just tends to drift away to the north, over the northern Isles through the overnight period.
01:21So, most places will have a dry night.
01:24Again, some patchy mist and fog here and there.
01:26A bit more of a breeze picking up along the south coast.
01:29So, it won't be perhaps as foggy as it has been here through the course of Monday morning.
01:34But, yes, some mist and fog developing inland as temperatures dip down into single digits.
01:39Certainly in rural spots, quite a few towns and cities may well hold up in double figures.
01:44And some really warm nights likely later this week, particularly over parts of north and west Wales.
01:49As we go through Tuesday, well, it's another cracking day.
01:52If you like spring sunshine, I'd say a bit more of a breeze, perhaps on the south coast of Devon and Cornwall.
01:57But light winds for most places, not as cloudy as today for Northern Ireland and Scotland.
02:02Lengthier spells of sunshine and that rain and drizzle tending to pull away,
02:06except maybe a little bit at times over the Northern Isles.
02:09In the sunshine, those temperatures will tick up.
02:11So, a warmer feel compared to today, more widely over 20 degrees Celsius.
02:16Certainly warmer for Northern Ireland and Western Scotland, even further south, 23, 24, perhaps 25 in the capital.
02:24So, yes, a pretty warm spell for the end of April and we're not done there.
02:29The fine weather will continue through Tuesday evening and could get warmer still for Wednesday and Thursday.
02:34For more details on that, you'll be watching our weather for the week ahead.
02:39That'll be available with Aidan on Monday afternoon.
