A north south split for today's weather. Rain and widespread cloud dominating in the south, rain slowly clearing to the southeast throughout the afternoon leaving low cloud and drizzle across much of southern and central England and Wales. Brighter conditions for northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, with some showers, but plenty of clear and sunny spells. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the afternoon of 14/10/24. 00:00Thanks for joining me for your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:03Something of a north-south split this Monday afternoon with fairly drab
00:08conditions across the south, something a bit brighter further north. But it's kind
00:11of an east-west orientation with the bigger picture with high pressure
00:15sitting to the east and it will be here for much of the week. A big low pressure
00:19and weather fronts trying to push in from the west and it's going to be a bit
00:22of a scrap as to who wins out. But to start the working week we've had this
00:27little area of low pressure bringing some pretty soggy conditions across the
00:31southeast. That rain is slowly petering out, clearing away and leaving just a lot
00:36of cloud across Wales, the Midlands, southern England and East Anglia. A bit of
00:40drizzle here and there. There's a weather front also bringing some showery rain
00:43across northern Scotland that is also tending to clear away and much of
00:47Scotland, Northern Ireland and a good chunk of northern England having a fine
00:51Monday, dry and bright with sunny spells and light winds. A bit on the chilly side
00:55here first thing but temperatures stumbling up to 11 or 12 Celsius. The
01:00south, reasonably mild air so temperatures here 15-16 degrees but
01:04obviously not feeling all that mild. We've got this thick cloud and the drizzle
01:08which will continue just to push a little further north as we go through
01:11the night. So turning misty and murky over the hills, over the Pennines and
01:15the mountains of North Wales and eventually into southern Scotland and
01:18Northern Ireland. Some light rain and drizzle as possible. Far north always
01:22staying dry and clear and here again there will be some pockets of frost in
01:26the countryside but elsewhere the milder air is wafting northwards so
01:30temperatures in the south staying in double digits and that milder air will
01:34continue to push north during Tuesday. But so will the cloud, a fairly drab day
01:39tomorrow for most. Northern Scotland being the exception with these southerly
01:43winds. Some shelter here, we'll see some sunny spells throughout the day but
01:47elsewhere well sunshine in short supply may brighten up a touch particularly
01:52across North Wales, maybe parts of North West England but even further south we
01:56could see some brightest bars developing. But overall a dry and cloudy day until
02:00we see some showers coming into the south coast later and also possibly
02:04into Northern Ireland for the afternoon. But as I say most places just dry and
02:08cloudy but it will be mild. Those temperatures above average for the time
02:12of year getting into the mid-teens maybe the high-teens if we do see some of that
02:16sunshine coming through and the milder air continues to stick around through
02:20Tuesday night and into Wednesday. But with the milder air wafting up from the
02:24south a bit more in the way of moisture joining in that means some showers are
02:28likely. Potential for some heavy ones through Tuesday night and as we head
02:32into Wednesday. So that bigger scrap going on with the high pressure sitting
02:36to the east and the low pressure on the weather fronts from the west continues
02:39through Wednesday and Thursday. It looks like the weather fronts will win out and
02:43bring some heavier rain for a time on Wednesday but still pretty warm and then
02:48more weather fronts bringing fresher conditions as we head towards the
02:52weekend. Potentially some strong winds too. Plenty to talk about with this
02:56week's weather. The full week ahead forecast that'll be available on YouTube
03:01by Monday afternoon.
