00:00Our first special guest studio guest of the day has arrived from the Detroit Youth Choir.
00:06Yeah, come and talk to us.
00:07Tell them your name, my friend.
00:09Anthony White, artistic director.
00:11Wait a minute, do it again.
00:12Do it again, Mike, go ahead.
00:14Anthony White, artistic director for the Detroit Youth Choir.
00:18There we go, Anthony.
00:19In the building.
00:19There you go, always good to see you.
00:21Yes.
00:21Thank you, thank you.
00:22Always good to see you.
00:23Thank you so much.
00:24Wow, a lot's going on.
00:26Yes.
00:27Spring and summer is going to be one of them things again, man.
00:30Of course, you know, we got to stay busy.
00:32Do you sell the jacket you're wearing?
00:34Well, these jackets are actually a special edition for our seniors.
00:39We have 13 seniors graduating this year.
00:42They've earned a jacket.
00:44Yes, they all got a jacket, and I got one that says Mr. White on the back,
00:48and I'm going to get to staff some, and, you know, we're just going to make it a DYC thing.
00:54Beautiful.
00:54I would love to sell them, but we get them off of a site.
00:57Maybe we'll do some future.
00:59Yeah.
01:00Maybe when we get toward the holiday again next year.
01:02For sure.
01:02Okay.
01:03So, boy, oh, boy, but will spring and summer be something to remember?
01:07Yes, it will.
01:08Let's start with Disney.
01:10Yes.
01:11For those who may not know, tell them.
01:14Yes.
01:15How the Detroit Youth Choir is appearing on Disney and why.
01:18Well, we have a docu-series out right now called Choir, and it's on Disney+.
01:25As soon as you go on the Disney Plus app, you should be able to see our banner.
01:30And it says Choir.
01:31And just to see myself and see the kids on a banner is truly, like, mind-blowing.
01:37Like, a Disney, like, we got a Disney logo.
01:41Like a real TV stuff.
01:42Like a real TV.
01:43I can go home and just, boom.
01:45And we're on it.
01:46And it's a great docu-series.
01:47I was going to say, here's what people will like about it.
01:50The fact that it's like a behind-the-scenes look.
01:53Yes, it is.
01:54It is.
01:54And people get to see, you know, what we do, how we move, what the kids are like.
02:01Because a lot of people don't really get to see what our students, you know, their voice.
02:07Because they just think they just get up on stage and do what they do.
02:10But you get to see their families.
02:12You get to see them crying and sharing stories.
02:16And you get to see what's behind me and what I do.
02:20So, and it's truly, like, a mind-blowing thing.
02:24And I want to just thank the whole Disney company and Blumhouse, Imagine, and Maniac Productions.
02:32So, Anthony.
02:33Big boys messing with you.
02:34Yeah, the big boys.
02:36Anthony, can you binge on it?
02:38Yes, you can binge.
02:39There's a six-episode binging.
02:42A lot of people just can't watch one.
02:44Right.
02:45They got to go one, two, three, four, five, six, and it's done.
02:47Here's the reason I bring it up.
02:49So, there will be a group from the choir that will travel to Africa.
02:55Yes.
02:55There's still a few coins needed.
02:57Yes, we still need some money to travel.
03:00So, the way I want to set that up is I'd like you before you donate.
03:05Yes.
03:05Because I want everybody, if you can, to donate something.
03:09Yes.
03:10Right?
03:10We're not begging.
03:12We're not taking your church money.
03:13We're not taking your bill money.
03:16But donate something.
03:17But do this.
03:18Yes.
03:19Before you say what you'll donate, watch the Disney Plus first.
03:24Please.
03:25Please.
03:26Once you see it, then make your donation.
03:29Yes.
03:29And see why this would be something special.
03:34Yes.
03:35So, those children are safe.
03:37Mm-hmm.
03:38And they move quickly and safely and funnily.
03:43Yes.
03:43In Africa.
03:45Yes.
03:45And it'll change their world forever.
03:48This is a groundbreaking thing that we're doing.
03:51We're doing a whole choral festival over there.
03:55And a special shout-out to the Nairobi team choral festival.
04:01And we're going over there for seven days.
04:03Wow.
04:04And this is my first, well, this is our first time that far.
04:08Yeah.
04:08And we do need money.
04:10We do need funds.
04:11And big shout-out to Gary Torgo over at Huntington.
04:14There's Gary.
04:15Oh, my man.
04:16Gary Torgo is the man.
04:18And also, Delta is a sponsor.
04:21Delta.
04:21And Kresge.
04:22But we still need money.
04:23Yeah.
04:24And, you know, just to get us comfortably over there.
04:26Yes.
04:26And I know it's a 20-hour flight.
04:28Yeah.
04:28We ready.
04:29We ready to go.
04:30He wasn't.
04:31He wasn't.
04:32He didn't think.
04:33Anthony White did not think we were going to talk about this part today.
04:36No.
04:37That was on me.
04:38Oh, okay.
04:38That's all me.
04:39I brought that up.
04:40I knew that he could have told you, but he didn't.
04:43Yeah.
04:43But I brought that up.
04:44So watch the Disney Plus.
04:46Yes.
04:46Then make a donation to make sure those kids have the time of their life.
04:50Yes.
04:51So that they can go bring other kids.
04:53Yes.
04:53And create trips like that.
04:55That's going to be amazing all because of the world.
04:57Life-changing.
04:58Life-changing.
04:58What else has been happening?
05:02Well, of course, we got a single, another single to add to popping.
05:06We have Mama We Made It.
05:08We also have some Black History Fund next week.
05:14Actually, right here, February 29th at Triumph East.
05:18Oh, yeah?
05:19Yeah.
05:19That'll be next weekend, right?
05:20Yes.
05:21We're celebrating the gospel music of Kirk Franklin and Ty Tribbett.
05:25Oh!
05:26Wow!
05:27That's going to be fun.
05:29The kids will be going to kill it.
05:31Oh, my God.
05:32And we also have a play that weekend, March 2nd, right?
05:37Oh!
05:38It's entitled Birmingham, 1963, about the four little girls.
05:43Yeah.
05:44And there's also another one that played to go along with it.
05:47So we just wanted to invite-
05:48Where would that be, Anthony?
05:49It's going to be at the Marygrove Theater on the campus of the Marygrove Conservancy.
05:55And that's actually where we rehearse.
05:57So it's going to be a full play.
06:00And these kids are dynamite.
06:01How many kids now, total?
06:03Ooh, I want to say maybe 125 now?
06:06125.
06:07You can break them down into how many choirs?
06:09Ooh, three choirs.
06:11Limelight, center stage, and primetime.
06:14And primetime is the choir that's traveling.
06:17Surely.
06:17So the other two choirs will be here for the draft and the other activities that's going on.
06:24They are part of the NFL draft.
06:26You could not do Detroit without the Detroit Youth Choir.
06:29You can't.
06:30You can't.
06:30You've got to come through DYC with the choir.
06:34You know, our thing is bringing youth choirs back.
06:38And we want to make it known that youth choirs are important around America.
06:43And, you know, in the future, we might have DYCs in other states.
06:47So when I tell you, you know, go on our website, DetroitYouthChoir.org.
06:55Get your tickets slash events.
06:58Get your tickets and come on out.
07:00See us.
07:01Now, May 31st, what's going on?
07:03Ooh, yeah.
07:03The big show.
07:04The big show at the Aretha.
07:07Primetime will have their year-ending show titled This Is Our Moment.
07:12Ooh.
07:13Yep, at the Aretha, May 31st.
07:15It's like a one-day-only type deal.
07:17But we want to pack that thing out.
07:20That's a family deal right there.
07:22Yes, we want to pack it out.
07:23And tickets are on sale right now.
07:25Good.
07:25Your kids should see this.
07:27Yes.
07:27Your kids should witness this choir.
07:30Yes.
07:31In living color.
07:32I like that.
07:33That's going to be good.
07:34It's going to be awesome.
07:35So tickets are available now.
07:37How do you get them?
07:37You can go to Ticketmaster to get the Aretha tickets and just type in Detroit Youth Choir and
07:44it's going to come right up and it's going to say, this is our moment live.
07:48And this is a chance for people to see us live, live.
07:52Right.
07:52Live and full effect.
07:54In living color.
07:55Yes, in living color.
07:56So, okay, you guys performed with the Lions, right?
08:00Yes, we did their first halftime show for the first playoff game in a 30-something year.
08:06All right.
08:07Yeah, we did it.
08:08What was it like?
08:09And how did they treat you?
08:11Actually, they treated us like kings and queens, of course.
08:15And shout out to Rebecca, Rebecca from the Lions.
08:21She really put it on for us.
08:23The kids had scarves and hats and paraphernalia and we did the halftime show and that was a
08:28big deal.
08:29Everybody was like, we saw y'all.
08:30Yes.
08:31So that was a good thing for our young people.
08:33So you guys, and tell all of your students and the members of the choir how important
08:39you guys are to Detroit.
08:41And the world.
08:42And the world, yeah, I'll never forget when you guys won.
08:46I know that was a life-changing month.
08:48For those of you who might not know, tell them about that experience.
08:52Well, when we came in second place.
08:55I got one.
08:56Tell them the name of the show.
08:57Well, America's Got Talent, of course.
09:00We came in second place 2019 in which Detroit really gave us a big welcome home when we came
09:09back.
09:09And I just want to shout out the city for welcoming us back.
09:13That was big.
09:14All the sports teams and everybody was like, D-Y-C.
09:18And all the, my friends said everybody in the city had on purple.
09:22And I love that.
09:23Well, one other thing to put on the calendar for next year going into the following year.
09:29Yes.
09:30Have the choir prepared for the Super Bowl.
09:32Yeah.
09:33Because we will be in the Super Bowl next year.
09:36That's what they say.
09:37That's going to happen, Anthony.
09:38If that happens, bring D-Y-C.
09:40For real.
09:40No, no, no, no.
09:41Us down.
09:42No.
09:42Put it on the calendar.
09:43Put it on the calendar.
09:44Because what we're telling you is block the date.
09:46Because it's already happening.
09:48Oh, we got to do it.
09:49No, we will do it.
09:50No one's asking you.
09:51No one's asking you.
09:53We don't care about your opinion.
09:54You will be performing the Super Bowl because Detroit is in the Super Bowl.
09:59Let's do it.
10:00That's what's happening.
10:01Let's do it.
10:02And I believe that the Lions are a special team.
10:05And they just got some new players.
10:07They ain't done.
10:08And they out here to make it happen.
10:11To make it happen.
10:12It's that DNA.
10:13It's that DNA.
10:13It's that DNA from Detroit.
10:15What would you like us to know before you go today?
10:18Well, of course, to donate, you can go to our website, DetroitYouthChoir.org.
10:23And follow us on social media, at DYC Official, all across the board.
10:29TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, whatever.
10:33And, you know, donate.
10:34Help us get to Africa.
10:36Help these kids do the unthinkable.
10:40You know, help us get there, you know.
10:43You know, you hear stories, you know, people think they're bad.
10:45These kids, da-da-da-da-da, all in that.
10:48You need to, like May say, it's a family affair.
10:51You need to let your kids experience these kids work in excellence.
10:59I've hosted shows in which they perform, and I've watched them backstage.
11:04And I've watched their discipline, you know, and I watch how serious they take this.
11:10And it's just a great example.
11:13But, again, it's that Detroit DNA.
11:15It's that DNA.
11:16You're strong.
11:17It's why you should watch the Disney Plus docuseries.
11:20Yep.
11:21It'll be great.
11:22Anthony, always thank you, brother.
11:23We love you.
11:24I love you, too.
11:25And I want to give you all flowers, too.
11:27I love y'all.
11:28Love you back.
11:29Detroit Youth Quiet.
11:30Yes.
