00:00great show wild 94 one base party station it's monday after father's day everybody got out and
00:08got their feel goods on and we told you that we had a secret in the air we had something that was
00:15uh you know able to be told on monday and uh it's time to share some information and david gets
00:24the floor since 2007 this radio station has been home for me from the moment i started as an unpaid
00:33intern it always felt like a privilege and an honor to be here i had a dream to be on the air
00:39every day and for the last 10 years you have allowed me to do that this has truly been the
00:44experience of a lifetime and i hope to never take it for granted but like all good things this now
00:51has come to an end for me i am stepping down from the freak show i am so grateful to each and every
00:59one of you that listen to us every person that i've gotten the opportunity to meet throughout the years
01:05it's been humbling that you cared about me i've gotten to speak at your kids schools
01:10dj your weddings i've had strangers treat me like family we've laughed we've cried we've celebrated
01:18we've mourned we've grown together this has truly meant the world to me i'll never forget the amount
01:26of self-doubt that i had when i started on the morning show i didn't think i'd be good enough
01:31or that i was funny or that people would even like me but you quickly made me feel like i was enough
01:37and i love you for that a little over three years ago i opened up the doors to a business
01:43which i'm sure many of you many of you have heard me talk about a tattoo shop which has since consumed
01:49me i now have nine full-time employees and a partner who deserve my undivided attention
01:56it's time for me to go all in and bet on myself meredith you have been an absolute pleasure to work
02:04with every morning you're in a positive upbeat mood you can take a joke you don't take yourself too
02:10seriously and you're great at your job i feel like i've made a friend for life orlando you have
02:18been my boss during this whole roller coaster ride you've been an example of how to be successful in
02:25this industry and even though you can be tough on us at times you have proven over and over again
02:31that you will go to bat for your people as a homie as a man as a father i feel like you're a one
02:37a real stand-up guy and a living legend in this radio game and lastly i want to say thank you for
02:44allowing me to do this most radio people don't have this opportunity to say goodbye and it definitely
02:51is not lost on me i am leaving here a much better person than i was when i started and for that i am
02:59forever grateful was that a difficult decision for you to make overall it was very difficult it was
03:08something i've been thinking about for a really long time um it is not lost on me how much of a
03:18transition and transformation and a blessing this has been for me i honestly didn't expect to be here
03:25ever i grew up here in tampa and it's been like so special to be on like the local popping radio
03:34station that i used to listen to like on my way to school and to be here yeah it was an extremely
03:41difficult decision it's um it's it's it's bittersweet for that you know the whole thing
03:48because how your career started here um what you've achieved um selfishly it's almost like
03:57nba players like you would look at the carl malones and the john stocktons when stockton would slap the
04:03ball over and carl malone would be right there or like jordan would move and know that pippen was
04:08gonna make a move and it's like you know that one two has uh has become very you know very natural
04:14and and so it's like you know we got to the point where i cannot know when you would jump in and
04:19and you know neo who's at maxima would look at her bouncing back and forth our banter between
04:24meredith and you and me and be like man it's such a dance it's like a three-man weave bro you know and
04:30and you look at that and you realize that comes to fruition from uh from from a lot of time together
04:35so it's it's it's it's bittersweet but it's also dope to see another one of our people grow up and and
04:42grow into another more solid position of ownership thank you man this is all i ever wanted for for
04:49the last almost two decades like this was my sole focus and um like i told you a couple weeks ago one
04:57of the best memories that i have of my father who passed away in november was when i told him that i
05:04got full time when i told him i got the job we popped a bottle of champagne and like going through
05:10the highlight reel of my father after his passing that was like right right up there in the top of
05:17my list i for years i always lived within like a one mile radius at a radio station just so anytime
05:25something came up boom i'm there by the time the phone hung up yeah yeah this this has definitely been
05:31the the world to me i remember when i when you hired me on the morning show one of the former on-air
05:38personalities told me i don't think you realize like how big a deal this was and like in hindsight
05:44they were 100 right i don't i don't think i did at first and it's been going out in the community and
05:52meeting people and and like the excitement and going to speaking all these different speaking
05:57engagements all these things that we've gotten to do which i know i would have never gotten to do
06:04otherwise is definitely not lost on me well you getting this job was fire but also your dad seeing
06:10you take it and run with it like when i got a chance to talk to your pops and i was like man your son
06:16killing it and he's like i i'm very proud of him he said so you he's okay i'm like oh he's he's more
06:22than okay i'm like you know that was that was major because i remember at the beginning you were like
06:26man my dad is like yo what we gonna do right right you know this was always i always looked at this
06:32as my opportunity to prove a lot of people wrong and i think i did i think i proved a lot of like
06:38those people in in my past i think i did and uh you're still doing it though yeah you're still
06:43doing it i mean i told you about you know your former teacher to chase me through hunter's green
06:47she was like i just i'm like who's this lady chasing me he's like i just want to tell you we
06:51didn't think he was gonna make it and i'm like yo like he's killing it and so people are out there
06:55looking at your your success and as you move and as you grow you know they still gonna be looking at
07:00she was like yo this dude has really done a major thing so you know and you have grown yes there's
07:06been different conversations we've had over the years where you're like i could not have been here
07:10like oh my oh man i this is something that man i definitely have grown because this ain't freaking
07:14me out like it used to i've learned so much about myself about people we'll still we'll have
07:18conversations that i'll think that everybody is gonna kind of be on one side and then there'll be
07:24opposing points of view and it'll be like yo you're right i didn't think about it like that and
07:29there was you know different groups of people that i was never really exposed to before this and
07:35you know i've definitely felt like i've gone through a transition and am a better person on the other
07:43side of it what does your girl think about everything i'm sure she's heard you talk about
07:47this over the years but she has she knows it's not rushed it's calculated and um she's she's
07:56supportive she's she's excited for the next chapter and you know plans that we have and just
08:04having you know being able to be my own boss having a little bit more freedom and yeah she's she's
08:10definitely excited and she knows how long i've been you know pouring over this decision right i'm proud
08:16of you man i am i'm proud of you we have we've had like you go on a list uh you know kind of like a
08:22a corkboard list of the station when we have people you know beato who's from seminole who's
08:27like yo i went to i'm with high school with her and now she's running kiss in la and you know like
08:33with ryan seacrest and all that she started here it's like you know we have people who grow into
08:37their own businesses and their own avenues and stuff or careers like navajo is a veterinarian tank
08:43she's loving life and taking care saving every animal she come across you know so it's like it's just
08:48different people who have stepped out and really you know made us proud and as as we move away from
08:53this this live action menudo band you know you graduating and doing this is a major look man so
09:01you got to salute that man yeah thank you i salute you bro i appreciate it man it's been a humbling
09:05experience for sure we're both happy for you we're sad people are just getting in their car right now
09:10they don't understand what's going on yeah i mean and so to recap it davi just shared uh a statement
09:15that made us feel like he was kidnapped we were looking at each other like i didn't know that's
09:19how it was going to start he started reading and i'm like why is he reading this statement i'm like
09:24i thought he was going to talk yeah i wanted to get it all i have been trapped he's holding up a
09:29newspaper like they won't let me speak davi has uh decided to step down and uh take his talents
09:37to emphasis tattoo uh 24 hours because he has uh you know a mint that he's making over there and it's
09:44his own mint yeah so he's getting it in and uh he's stepping down from his morning show duties and
09:50he came in and uh saw me after he came back from out in the tropical jungle and he was gone all that
09:58time and he came in and when anybody comes into my office and closes the door oh yeah oh it's the
10:03same way as if i bring somebody in office and i close the door yeah like that ain't really as crazy
10:09but if they come in there and see like leslie in there with a legal pad and i close the door they're
10:13like oh here we go here's my key card yeah they're taking the key card but when he came in he's like
10:18hey homie can i talk to you i'm like cool and he closed the door i'm like oh and he's like yeah he's
10:23like listen and we and i you know as he said it i'm again looking at the totality of our relationship
10:30and i'm like how you can't i can't be mad i'm disappointed but i'm not disappointed i'm like
10:35there's change but there's always been change this is we i've always referred to the freak show as
10:40menudo because somebody moved out and then davi was able to take up the the opportunity and i
10:47remember when you first started i think that was after gordy left yep and when you first started
10:53people who rocked with gordy was like man who is this dude right yeah and you was catching all you
10:58like brud ain't really feeling me and i'm like man just give it time and it's like and it was a
11:02couple minutes and then they were like ah this dude all right all right i ride with this dude but
11:06whatever and and it takes that transition same thing with sarah lee or with navajo or with you
11:13know any of the people who've been on the air with us lyric for a moment how dare you talk about
11:17others before you know talk about access like that you know what is this marriage doing in there it's
11:22like you know even i came to the show after the original host when i was in afternoons i came on
11:28after uh flying brian uh moved on and uh moved down to down south and so i joined uh a whole
11:35i was the new guy and people were like man where's brian you know so it's we we go through that
11:41that baton change and stuff so for people who are just joining us davi has uh has has decided to
11:47to move on and uh we now have to cast somebody else for the show there are a lot of questions so we
11:53figured today would be a special plea to fifth uh where we just gonna let y'all let's ask whatever

13:56like you know usually in broadcast people sneak away in the middle of the night kind of like tony
14:01dungy got fired it was raining and everybody's like yo unceremoniously y'all just get rid of tony
14:06dungy and it's like so our bosses our new boss ron i was like bro like man i like man y'all can't ask
14:11me to just be like yo like all right just give me your key card like i'm like we couldn't do that
14:17so he was like no no i mean it's like he's been on there so long bro he's like good let him get a
14:21shine so they they actually allowed us to be able to do that because a lot of old school radio
14:25thinkers are like no you don't oh they're never yeah ever they would never do it but i'm like you
14:29know i just i think that that was just right and you as you see everybody's response is that's that's
14:34what you're supposed to do now when we you know tank in the ratings afterwards because we basically
14:40did this big you know send-off then you know like they might be like that's why you weren't supposed
14:44to do that but no but we got a lot of questions that's coming in like uh people like is this your
14:48last day today that's out of the seven two seven i don't think so no it's not well we got to talk
14:54you have to sign some paperwork yeah no no it's not his last day i mean this is just the
15:00announcement that you know we because we are now in a search for uh the next person to sit in that
15:06chair and and what that what that becomes so uh just to let you know uh we had our conversation
15:13weeks ago uh we put in an ad uh in all of the radio type of you know in deeds and all that stuff but
15:20all the radio stuff so i've gotten more than 59 packages from people from around the country i got
15:27like seven from in the building um and so it's been like whittling through having conversations
15:32with people uh you know we've gotten it down to where it's you know pretty much like the last finalist
15:38so you know the decision is going to be made soon on where which way we're going to go and what we
15:43can do to kind of continue on the show with that same kind of kind of energy we won't have
15:48i can't cast another davi right i couldn't i couldn't cast other characters that you know
15:53we had that left the show it's like you know finding a davi is like you don't know what you got
15:57the strip club dj this dude is like he keeps strip clubbing and i remember our first conversation i was
16:04like hey davi man listen you're doing the strip clubs man i need you committed to the ones i got you
16:08big dog that night he was out in the strip club
16:12every time something happened like man i doubted davinci's it was a big fight department like how
16:21you know oh i was leaving
16:22so yeah so i mean 888-429-0941 any question you got we can holler um at 813 i just want to know what
16:32has been hands down all favorite memory working on orlando and the freak show oh easy easy it was
16:39the day your water broke all right yeah yeah absolutely not only because that was like the beginning
16:46of you having your first child and aubrey being here but we had game planned it we had trained for
16:52this we had a plan right which was kind of like just a he he ha ha thing never did i think we were
16:59actually gonna have to implement the plan but we had a legit plan mark was here so you rode with me
17:05mark drove your car oh stayed here guided the whole thing on the air and the fact and it worked out
17:11perfectly i was like yo that i'll never forget that contractions in his car oh yeah in the studio
17:17it was crazy we were like hey everybody move over get over to the left so they can zoom by on the right
17:22like we was on it stat all right absolutely uh this question came in and said man i love doobie
17:28okay so i have to ask you how many different variations of your name spelling have you seen
17:35while you've been on this show double digits for sure doobie darby uh davy uh yeah doobie
17:43sometimes they'll throw a u in there or yeah yeah it's it's so many
17:49i get dave you have been called dave yeah dave has been in there uh let's see here um i feel like
18:00we got served divorce papers why are you doing this on a monday a lot of people mad about juneteenth
18:04too they're like yo it's juneteenth and you gonna do this to us on a monday it's crazy

18:17one since you're not gonna work with meredith or babs no more would you get it in with them if the
18:23opportunity came about he said sister in his speech did i i don't know

18:43a relationship i didn't break up with my girl yeah he didn't quit her he quit us yeah yeah yeah

19:01everybody calling texting him and i appreciate it hey y'all get turned on radio right now
19:28it's still crazy to me people texting in saying oh their wife called them yeah somebody was on the
19:36phone trying to break it to their wife like dog i mean you realize how does it feel i mean if we can
19:41ask some questions too how does it feel when you see the barrage of texts that are in front of you
19:47or the fact that people are like yo i had to call my wife and break the news to her or my sister who's
19:51up at nap just hit me with a no with so many o's behind it and tears yeah but she's like no
19:56every every now and then something will happen where you'll get like a different perspective
20:02of how many people actually rock with you i felt it when i got engaged i felt it when my father passed
20:09away and today is another one of those days where there'll be people that you can see they've never
20:15text before or people that call that are calling in that you know those voices isn't isn't familiar
20:20it it's amazing honestly it's humbling yeah yeah exactly well you mean a lot to the audience
20:24i mean you think we ain't gonna hold on to that all right uh let's see here uh man my wife just
20:34called me to tell me the news out of the 727 uh it says congratulations dobby sad to see you go bro

23:53the skill that when it's here when we're it's just us three in the room it's always fun it's always
23:59light personal stuff kind of you know it goes on pause for a little bit and just how i mean it puts
24:07me in a great mood being here yeah and that i'm i'm gonna miss for sure what is one of the duties
24:12that you're gonna be glad you don't have to do no more oh my god there's a list what is that like

24:20gonna say post on the website i know you're gonna say i gotta i gotta make no more content yeah i doubt
24:27you gonna use the word content ever again y'all just don't know boy it's like what it's like working
24:33at the daily bugle well we write some stories let me tell you that website be popping
24:38you can see matter of fact i think david made some content and put his letter up on the website
24:47he did it i did it for him yeah damn he still won't do it yeah that's the most merida thing
24:52ever let me tell y'all not gonna be fired because of his digital i'm just trying to get in front of
24:58it by the way that wasn't our biggest argument we've ever had on air it was one of them the other
25:04biggest argument can you remember what it was um i know we've argued about like the joint bank
25:10accounts i don't think that's what you were referring to we've definitely argued about that
25:14and you're wrong but that's okay yeah because you was very you was very much stickler for that
25:19part you was like yo the money gotta go together but then we was like behind your back like she's
25:23such a gold no which is funny because we have separate bank accounts no the one of the the
25:28biggest argument in my opinion besides your birthday party is we had a conversation about how if you saw
25:34anthony kissing somebody else that was a big that was the biggest that was but that was a big fight
25:39because you felt like you weren't one of the boys no because he specifically said that
25:44you're not you're you're not a you're not a bro but but i mean he wouldn't he wouldn't tell me
25:48if he saw anthony but keep going keep going what else did i say by but he he said also if if he saw
25:54you he wouldn't go tell him right i'm a secret keeper right but i've known you for a decade and i
25:59see you every single day and you still wouldn't tell me you've known me for a decade and you've
26:03never heard me tell on anybody right right like yeah but but if if oh was dating somebody and you
26:09saw her kissing and cheating on oh you would tell him yeah and there you go that's the bro code
26:14but see but that's why we had a fight but and you had a fight because you were like i'm not one of
26:20the guys right you're like because you're not but you're one of the family right but that bro code is
26:26like a different thing where he's like if i saw your girl out there wrong yeah i'm gonna tell you
26:30people remember this fight yeah it was a big fight because i was right of course they remember
26:33and by the way i do appreciate you coming to my party of course yeah so what time did you hear
26:42yeah we guilted her into it i had a good time i did right yeah wow said no more invites to kids
26:48birthday parties all right uh let's see here uh orlando are you going to give buck a chance to
26:55take davi's spot buck actually uh you know hollered at me we actually met about it and uh you know and
27:01talked about because he brings a certain skill set that he openly let me know he's like i do a
27:07certain set of skills very well and whatever so um so we talked about it i i have a bunch of
27:12candidates that's um you know that that's that are really talented some people from out of the state
27:18some people from in the state some people from in the building so you know we don't really know how
27:22we're gonna move yet i gotta make that decision uh and i've asked the room to kind of you know chime
27:26in as well because we all kind of do it together that just will i'll never replace anybody that
27:33leaves the show i think davi has you know stapled it as as something that he does his way and so i
27:39can't make anybody else be the homie i can't you know make that um but what i what i can do is try
27:45and find somebody who fits within our rhythm and then you know they it's like it's like firing a
27:50drummer and then hiring a new drummer they ain't gonna be that old drummer but i need to make sure
27:55that you fit in the pocket for what we do so yeah that's that's that's the long professional
28:00hr answer i know you have to play both roles i have to i have to be like man that's my dog
28:06like oh no because together we're going to move forward and we're going to move forward and that's
28:11what we gotta do so i gotta do that so we're gonna have a party i want i did we definitely gotta have
28:15a party okay is it for everybody or just employees or can listeners come out i think everybody i mean i
28:19think everybody we got people crying we might as well i mean we got people singing songs and
28:25everything so you know because come on baby it's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday
