00:01It's a beautiful car, but I'm going to have to say
00:02it's a blast from the past.
00:06It's got a couple of sticks of dynamite.
00:08It's got a couple of things that are a little weird,
00:09just right out the gate.
00:10Not a fan of the stripe.
00:11This will be, I think, one of the big challenges
00:13to see how much of a pain it is to get rid of those stripes.
00:18We're going to have to do this surgically.
00:20I'm folding under pressure.
00:23Out with the old, into the new.
00:24Come here, you sweet little thing.
00:26Just give a big old kiss.
00:27I've never seen the car this blown apart.
00:31Right?
00:32This is just going to give it a whole new life.
00:34There's a lot of wheel and tire for this car.
00:39Too much power.
00:40It keeps blowing my exhaust tubes away.
00:42Oh, there we go.
00:44We're moving now.
00:45818.
00:46Beachfront Avenue.
00:52When I look at a blank canvas, I see endless possibilities.
00:56As the ideas come to mind, the lines start to fall into place.
01:00And before you know it, we have a bitchin' ride.
01:05A bitchin' ride has intense color.
01:07This is gorgeous.
01:08Performance.
01:10It's fantastic.
01:12Stance, wheels, sound.
01:15There's one thing that makes our car stand out.
01:18Ours are bitchin' rides.
01:20Well, it never gets old.
01:30So you got us out here.
01:33Beautiful day.
01:33I'll tell you what, speaking of a pretty day.
01:36It's a beautiful car, but I'm going to have to say it's a blast from the past.
01:39It most certainly is.
01:40It's like circa 1986.
01:50When our good friend Paul sent his 33 Roadster out to us, he didn't really get too deep into
01:55detail on how much 80s was still strapped to the chassis.
01:58Are those original Boyds?
01:59Uh-huh.
02:00Probably before he was born.
02:02Yep.
02:02I was born in 78, bro.
02:05Okay.
02:06So you were six.
02:08Big deal.
02:09Candy brandy wine, the beige interior.
02:14Paul has obviously good taste in Roadsters.
02:17This thing is very nicely built, so we don't have any paint work really for the most part.
02:21A couple of things that he really wants to tackle is he wants to update it and make it
02:24a little bit more our style.
02:26Okay.
02:27So we're going to take those Boyds off and put them in the swap meet pile.
02:29Okay.
02:30I'm going to do maybe some 16s, 17s, one-offs, or else maybe some 17, 18s.
02:34I'll see what I can fit in there.
02:35I want to do something kind of vintage.
02:36Why would you put 17s back here?
02:39That's not you.
02:40I don't even think they make tires for 17s anymore.
02:42They do.
02:43They do, and I actually checked.
02:44The turn signals are down underneath the fenders.
02:48We're going to put them in the new headlights.
02:49I've also got a set of new taillights coming.
02:51Okay.
02:52So that seems all pretty easy enough.
02:53Yeah.
02:54So why is Justin here?
02:55So Justin is going to take care of the inside of the car.
02:57Funny.
02:58Go figure.
02:59That's the most important part.
03:01It's a little bit dated.
03:02I'm sure it's comfortable, but there is definitely some upgrades that we're going to do on the
03:06inside.
03:07First thing I'm going to do is across the dash, all of that billet ball mill stuff needs to
03:10come out.
03:11We're going to get rid of the steering column, and I think we might go ahead and put a shifter
03:14on the floor if it makes more sense, just so there's a little bit more room around the
03:17knee.
03:18And a couple other things that are kind of dated.
03:19The top shape is good.
03:20I want to do a bead on this.
03:22I want to do a black canvas.
03:23I want it to look like it's a functioning fold down top.
03:25Obviously it's a Carson top.
03:26The carpet, I think we'll change that up as well.
03:28Let's go with maybe a wool or maybe another square weave if it makes sense.
03:32I want to restylize these seats.
03:33Do we ever think about just doing a whole bench?
03:36This seat is a good fit for it.
03:37Let's just maybe square up the back of the rest so it looks more like a bench, but we'll
03:40do a split upper bench, and then we'll have some room still behind it.
03:43What's in the trunk there?
03:44I think that's the lever.
03:45Hopefully it's a rumble seat.
03:46Hopefully it's a rumble seat.
03:47I love rumble seats.
03:48Oh, yeah.
03:49Aww.
03:50Nope.
03:51It's got a couple sticks of dynamite.
03:53Sweet.
03:54I think these are road flares.
03:55Oh, my bad.
03:56Again, I think we'll just kind of keep the trunk very simple.
03:59I think a tuck and roll would really be kind of fitting for the era of the car that we're
04:04trying to go for.
04:05What color are you thinking on the inside?
04:08I'm thinking a light beige.
04:09So something that nobody can ever sit in.
04:11Again.
04:12Hey, wipe yourself off before you get in a clean car.
04:15Wait.
04:16So now we know what's behind door number one and door number two.
04:19Let's look behind door number three.
04:24Nice.
04:25A bunch more ball milled aluminum.
04:27That was cutting edge back in the day.
04:31Get yourself a mullet, dude.
04:32Let's party.
04:33I got it.
04:34I had a mullet.
04:35It'd be a skullet now.
04:36Let's do it.
04:37The spark plug wires themselves, all of the blingy accessory drive.
04:41Let's take a look.
04:42Maybe we change that up a little bit.
04:43Tune port's coming off.
04:44We're going to do an eight stack.
04:45Okay.
04:46And then also, let's see how much more brake we put in there.
04:48He's a little concerned with the front brakes.
04:49They just aren't quite cutting up.
04:50So now we're talking about wheels again.
04:53I mean, the most important wheel, can we change the steering wheel?
04:56Most definitely.
04:57I'm thinking like a 40 Ford or maybe we find something that's a little bit more kind of cool.
05:01Maybe an early Lincoln that we can shrink down.
05:03Just something kind of cool.
05:04Okay.
05:05Let's do it.
05:06Paul's got great taste in early street rods and he's got greater taste in builders.
05:10So, let's get busy.
05:11Thanks.
05:12Okay.
05:13I do upholstery.
05:14No, I do.
05:15Okay.
05:16Okay.
05:17I'm just barely skinny enough.
05:34I got to somehow get that bolt out.
05:36Come on.
05:37Oh, no, I got it.
05:40Every project that can dig a design when it comes in, no matter what level it is, has to be taken apart.
05:45With this one, most of the work's going to get done on the inside.
05:48What's your plan?
05:49Yeah.
05:50So then you just have a bunch of room to work with.
05:53Okay.
05:54It should just come out now.
05:57Yeah.
05:58All right.
05:59Ready?
06:00I'm going to push it your way.
06:05And then I'm going to set it down and then I'm going to get in.
06:12So I'm going to set it down on top.
06:14Okay.
06:15Let's go right here.
06:18Now we got room to work with now.
06:21What are you going to do next?
06:22I was thinking just the panels.
06:32I'm assuming this just screws off.
06:34Why not?
06:35I got to figure out how to take this off.
06:44I have no idea.
06:47What's up?
06:48I don't want to take that thing off.
06:49That handle, that foam piece right here.
06:50I don't want to take this off.
06:51I don't want to take this off.
06:52We might need to grab some pliers, but we don't want to scratch it.
06:53So I might put some gorilla tape around it and then a towel and then try to grab it with
07:07some pliers and twist it off, Carson.
07:10Carson.
07:11Carson.
07:12Carson?
07:13Dude.
07:14What's up?
07:15What's up?
07:16Dude.
07:27Pulse 33 came in to us and of course we had kind of a small laundry list of things that
07:31he wanted to do, but we were actually able to add a couple more things to it that would
07:35just make it make more sense.
07:36The headlights and taillights, we're going to go ahead and change those out.
07:39And to replace the 14 and 15 inch wheels, I'm going to go with the 15 up front, a little
07:43bit skinnier so we have lots of turning radius so we can keep the car down.
07:46And also we're going to tie in a 17 inch wheel in the rear.
07:49And for the wheel design, I've designed up magnesium hot rod wheel.
07:52So the interior, we're going to go ahead and take all of the tweed out of it as well
07:56as the top material.
07:57We're going to go to a black canvas on the top.
07:59We're going to do a nicer lighter colored interior headliner to match the new leather color.
08:04This more natural beige color is going to look beautiful next to the candy brandy wine.
08:08And of course, we're going to add some other details with chrome as well as some matte
08:11finished brass.
08:12This car was actually a really beautiful car.
08:14The body and paint work was beautiful.
08:16The components, for the most part, all the way across the board were really nice.
08:19We're just going to replace the stuff that dated it so much.
08:21This is going to look awesome and it's going to continue to carry a theme throughout the entire vehicle.
08:31Carson, I would have probably started with the door panels.
08:33Okay.
08:34I'll just do the door panels.
08:35Get the door panels out of the way.
08:36And then there's an Allen that goes back here.
08:39Yeah.
08:40And then take those out.
08:41This should pop off and then you should be able to get the door panels out.
08:43Okay.
08:46Oh, come on.
08:50Too big?
08:53That's definitely too small.
08:54Oh my gosh.
08:56We're using every Allen Ridge.
08:57This might take me a minute.
09:02Too small.
09:07So do you guys like filming?
09:08We'll be asking the questions.
09:10Yeah.
09:11Easy there.
09:13Too small.
09:14I just thought I'd conversate.
09:17So I don't sit here in awkward silence.
09:20Oh, this one looks good.
09:25Maybe.
09:27Nope.
09:29This one might work.
09:34Oh.
09:35Are you serious?
09:36I'm folding under pressure.
09:49Oh, yeah.
09:51This could be good.
09:53Oh, yeah.
09:57Oh, there we go.
09:59Took a hundred of them.
10:01Well, we finally got it.
10:07And this 33 is not the only car in the shop that we're getting started on right now.
10:11So this is a 1968 Camaro.
10:13My favorite year, personally.
10:15Looks like a very nice build.
10:16It's got a pretty high horsepower engine on it.
10:19But I will say...
10:22Not a fan of the stripe.
10:26Oh, Tate and Sarah's car's here, huh?
10:28Yeah.
10:29Cool.
10:30It looks like it's got some pretty nice parts on it.
10:31It's a big block car.
10:32Looks like a nice car.
10:33It's got a couple things that are a little weird.
10:36Just right out the gate.
10:37What would you call this?
10:38Yellow or orange?
10:39It's a gold.
10:40I don't know.
10:41It's a golden orange.
10:42But it just doesn't have any flow with the car.
10:43It doesn't match the car.
10:44There's nothing else on the car that has that.
10:46No.
10:47Not a detail.
10:48Not a stitch.
10:49Like, it would be cool to maybe, like, if they carried it in through the stitching.
10:52Nope.
10:53No.
10:54This stripe definitely has to go.
10:55We don't want to repaint the whole car.
10:56So we're going to have to do this surgically.
10:59I do not want to repaint.
11:00I'm not looking to blend.
11:01It should have plenty of room where we need to go.
11:04Yep.
11:05To get rid of that stripe.
11:06Okay.
11:07So lower valance fender door.
11:08Do you want to pull that stuff off or do you want to just paint it on the car?
11:11I would say paint it on the car.
11:13But I did notice one thing.
11:15Yeah, it won't be around that.
11:16I was going to say it comes around the corner.
11:20On the door especially.
11:21Okay.
11:22It comes around the back.
11:23So we're probably going to have to figure out, pull one or the other at minimum.
11:27Okay.
11:28The wheels are cool but they don't fit the style of the car at all in my opinion.
11:31They're nicely built.
11:32So we need to do wheels.
11:33We need to get rid of this orange gold stripe.
11:36Mm-hmm.
11:37And then some drivability issues.
11:38Let's look under the hood here.
11:42He wants to be able to drive the car.
11:43That's kind of his biggest, his biggest thing.
11:46So we want to check, like, systems, the cooling system, make sure the brakes are working,
11:50the exhaust system.
11:52We need to probably do something with that.
11:54That's low carbon steel or is that stainless?
11:56That looks steel to me.
11:57It looks like it's steel and it's not coated.
11:59If it is coated, it's at its last hurrah.
12:02So you want to do something with the exhaust?
12:04Yeah, I don't want to replace it but I would definitely say let's see if we can get some coatings on it.
12:09I don't want to start over and I don't think Tate wants to either.
12:12He's got a lot of money invested in the car and he just wants to be able to drive it a bit more.
12:15Okay.
12:16So let's just update us a little bit of styling.
12:19I'll get with him and make some suggestions on some wheels.
12:23I'll get all of the things that we need ordered for the engine management.
12:27Okay, cool.
12:28So we can start with the paint and then go from there.
12:30Maybe you can get Shannon to start doing some color matches before we even sand it open.
12:34Let's just get the color perfected.
12:36Okay, perfect.
12:37Step one, we need to work on a proper paint match.
12:39This is a custom mixed color.
12:40It's going to take a little time.
12:42It reminds me of a joke.
12:43This gal goes to the golf course and she goes in.
12:45She's talking to the guy at the counter and whatever.
12:47They had a nice little chat, whatever.
12:49Is it a part three?
12:50Stop, stop.
12:51So anyway, she's like, well, cool.
12:53And he goes, well, you know what?
12:54Go on out and go in on tee off on number one.
12:57So great.
12:58So she goes out there.
12:59Stop, stop.
13:00You ruined the jokes.
13:03No, it's the hardest hole though.
13:04The hardest hole is the one I'm trying to talk about.
13:07And then you keep interrupting me.
13:08Okay.
13:09So anyway, she goes out there.
13:10And about 20 minutes later, she comes running back in.
13:12And she's like, she didn't just drive her cart.
13:15Yada, yada, take forever to tell a joke like normal.
13:18I don't want to tell the joke anymore.
13:19I would let you tell.
13:20No, no, you won't.
13:21Yes, I will.
13:22No, you won't.
13:23I just said I won't.
13:24I know you.
13:25I know you.
13:26I've met you before.
13:27Have you?
13:28You don't let anybody tell a joke.
13:29Really?
13:30Nope.
13:31Go ahead and tell this joke.
13:32Nope.
13:33I won't say one more.
13:34I'm done.
13:35Okay.
13:36So I can go cry.
13:37Cry.
13:38Because I wasn't able to tell my joke.
13:40You don't want to hear this joke.
13:41It wasn't a good one.
13:42I've heard it a hundred times.
13:43It never gets better.
13:44So you want to tell me a joke on the whip?
13:46No, I'm not even going to bother telling you any more jokes.
13:48Come on.
13:49No, you've heard them all.
13:50Well, come up with new ones.
13:51Okay.
13:52What did the Eskimos say to the chocolate bar?
13:54I know what you did for a Klondike bar?
13:57No.
14:02We didn't paint this car, but we have to match the gray.
14:05I think it's going to take multiple spray outs before we get the perfect match.
14:08I'm going to use color camera to figure out this color on this car,
14:12because obviously we don't have a color code for it.
14:15Not a stock color by any means.
14:17Very metallic-y.
14:18So it'll be fun to try to get this one to match.
14:22There we go.
14:23Now I just have to go back to the computer,
14:25and they'll pull me up a formula that I can go on,
14:27see what we come up with.
14:29I could get other matches as well,
14:31but this is the one that's most likely to match that color.
14:35So that's where we'll start out is with that one.
14:38We'll get some paint mixed up,
14:41and do a spray out car, and see how it ends up.
14:45Let's go.
14:52With this camera, sometimes it nails and it gets it right on the money.
14:55Sometimes it just gets us real close.
14:57We just have to make a couple small minor tweaks, and we're there.
15:00This thing's a lifesaver.
15:01I'd say that camera's probably like 85% accurate,
15:05but this could be more tricky since it's this high metallic.
15:10Might have to take it over there and just kind of look at it
15:12and see what this looks like before I drew a spray out.
15:15It looks close,
15:16but every detail matters here at Kandiga Design.
15:18It has to be perfect.
15:19You see this one has a lot of gold metallics in it,
15:27and this has just a lot of silvers, fine silvers.
15:31Really, the shade's right, so we might just have to figure out
15:36how to take that gold out of it.
15:38Other than that, it's pretty close.
15:44Figure out where that gold's coming from.
15:46Zero, six, five, six, seven, one.
15:51Blue, green, eight, one, one, one.
15:53Silver, silver, nine, six, four.
15:57That one.
15:59It's blue, green.
16:01We got a bunch of silver.
16:02We got a bunch of blue.
16:03We got a bunch of green.
16:04Where's the gold?
16:08I don't know where that gold is coming from.
16:11It's all these are just silvers.
16:13I don't know.
16:14It's weird.
16:15It shouldn't have that much gold in it if there's no gold toners.
16:19This is gonna be harder than we thought.
16:21Where does the gold even figure into this mix?
16:34The 80s called, and I'm gonna do something for them.
16:36I'm gonna send all of their stuff back.
16:38When we're all done here with this 33,
16:40it's gonna be timeless.
16:41But now it's time to get going on it.
16:43All right.
16:44I should just pop off.
16:46I should just pop off.
17:01We're moving now.
17:02I should just pop off with this thing.
17:03I can't see all the boxes.
17:04I can't see all the boxes.
17:05They're supposed to go all the boxes.
17:06I can't see them.
17:07You can't see them, you can see them, you can see them.
17:08I can't see them.
17:09Well, Paul, I'm getting used to void warranties on your cars, so.
17:33Before we get too far into this project, I want to make sure I get with the client, Paul,
17:36and make sure that we're all on the same page.
17:39This looks like you're making some progress.
17:40Yeah.
17:41I've never seen the car that's blown apart.
17:43It's kind of different.
17:46I bought this car about 15 years ago, but it looked 80s.
17:50So since I like the car so much, it's easier to redo it than to go buy a different one.
17:54Here's the rendering right here.
17:56Both Justin and I are pumped about the color combo.
17:59There's the leather color.
18:00Okay.
18:00And then this is our carpet, and then this is our headliner material.
18:04This is an Alcantara.
18:05Those three are going to go together great.
18:07Yeah, I think it's just very deep.
18:08It's very classy, and I think it's really just going to kind of make this pop.
18:12You know, the tweed that was in there was really cool in the 80s.
18:15Oh, and that and this rendering, that's going to change the whole character in the car.
18:19The colors he's picked out for the interior, the materials and such, I think it's really going to come out great.
18:25So, Dave, what are we doing with the top?
18:27So, Justin, you've got the top on your side?
18:28Yeah, I've got the top on my side.
18:30We're going to wrap the top side of it with black StayFast canvas, and then finish it off with this Alcantara and give this a whole new look.
18:38Sounds great.
18:39You know what they say about a black top is slimming, and so what that actually means for the car is it's going to make the top look lower.
18:44It'll make it look like it's chopped, which is really going to be very fitting for the car.
18:48That'll be great.
18:48Yeah.
18:48When you tie on the carpet and the headliner and top, they all flow together, and that's what he's really good at, and that's why we're bringing cars to him.
18:56It'll be like a different car.
18:57It really, truly will be because we're going to billet machine all of this stuff and replace all of the turned aluminum and ball milled stuff.
19:04So, that's what I'm looking for is to just update the car and make it look like it came out this year instead of 30 years ago.
19:10Exactly.
19:10The car is beautiful.
19:12The paint, I'm a true believer in leaving every bit of it because it's flawless.
19:16That's one of the best parts of the car.
19:18The body works great.
19:19Underside's as nice as the top, so there's no reason to get into that or change anything.
19:23Exhaust tips, I'm just going to basically take them out and curve them down so you won't see them.
19:27Kind of make them hide.
19:28Yeah.
19:29And then, yeah, unfortunately, these are definitely got to go.
19:34That's history.
19:35Engine bay, we've already got your 8-stack on there.
19:37It's fitting very well, so we've already made the modifications to your accessory drive, so we're good there.
19:41You wanted exhaust cutouts.
19:43I think we can probably accomplish that just fine.
19:44It looks like we've got plenty of room.
19:45That's quite a change, and that's just really giving it a whole clean look at the engine compartment.
19:50We've had a lot of fun with it so far over the years, and it's a great driving car.
19:55I really enjoy driving it.
19:56It's great to see this car being updated and brought back to looking current.
20:00This is just going to give it a whole new life, which is what it needs.
20:03Shannon's been mixing and matching.
20:11I don't think he's quite figured it out, but he's getting there.
20:14Definitely see the gold, and I maybe have too much blue, too, so I don't know.
20:30I don't think that this is 100% a match, but we're going to get Dave's opinion.
20:37What you got, Shannon?
20:38You got a spray out?
20:39It's missing a lot of red.
20:44Yeah, the camera didn't really do the best.
20:47Way too green.
20:49Yeah, it's got a lot of green.
20:51A lot of gold, too.
20:52Shannon's tried to get rid of this gold.
20:54Now everything seems to be off.
20:57You got to go a little finer?
20:59Yeah, a little finer.
20:59Does that look like we need to go a little bit finer pearl?
21:01That looks like a pearl, and that's a metallic.
21:03That's a metallic, yeah.
21:04Let's go into pearls, let's reduce the amount of metallic, and we've got to get her away from that.
21:11It's got like a blue to it.
21:13Yeah, it's got two blue pearls in it, so that's what you've seen in that.
21:18Reduce your blues, that'll bring your reds out, because this is much more on the red side.
21:21Yeah.
21:21This will be, I think, one of the big challenges, to see how much of a paint it is to get rid of those stripes.
21:29I mean, sorry, to match this paint, so that we can get rid of the stripes.
21:33It should be easy to get rid of the stripes, but getting the paint to match might be the stripes.
21:38You know, it seems like every time we take one step forward, we take two steps back.
21:41We really need to get back on track, because I have no plans of repainting this entire car.
21:51When Paul's 33 Ford showed up, it was like a blast from the past.
22:01It's like circa 1986.
22:10We've totally gutted the interior.
22:12We're going to change up these wheels, and we're going to take this thing back to where it should have been,
22:15had this been in style back then.
22:17Does that make any sense?
22:18This is just going to give it a whole new life.
22:20There you go.
22:21Which is what it needs.
22:21We're moving now.
22:23Getting the dash in these gauges and panels is really important to keep with the theme that I'm going with.
22:28Hey, Greg, what do you got?
22:29Hey.
22:30So I got the parts for that 33 Ford.
22:32You told me briefly you wanted to update this ball mill face on this guy, kind of old school, 1980s.
22:40What I was hoping was I could just make a piece that lands on top of this.
22:44The only thing I'm seeing is these are a little shallow.
22:47This part has like a nice shelf, so if we put something on top of here,
22:50it'll still be under further.
22:52The gauge panel and the dash panels are really going to be key to changing that interior to make it look more vintage,
22:58but yet more modern.
22:59We can just make taller ones of those.
23:00Yeah.
23:00How fine can you do the ball mill?
23:02We can do it finer than this one if you want.
23:05We want them right on top of each other.
23:06I want them the next one, next one, next one.
23:09Let's do a Ford script in there in the middle.
23:11Put the headlight switch at the top, put the key at the bottom.
23:13Cool.
23:13Yeah, I like the way those gauges look.
23:15Oh, yeah, it's clean.
23:16Yeah, it'll look good.
23:17It's always interesting to see how people modified cars in the past.
23:20Right.
23:20In 40 years, people still think ours is really good.
23:23Ours is by far timeless.
23:25Cool.
23:25Yeah, it looks good.
23:26Great.
23:27Glad I got with Dave on what we're going to do.
23:36This thing was a little different assembly than I expected.
23:39Rather than remake this part, I'm just going to make a faceplate.
23:42So we're going to be adding a little bit of height, and then the centerpiece, kind of the same.
23:46Just doing the backside, some clearance for the ignition components, and then clearance for the headlight switch, which is on the top.
24:02And then I'll flip this piece over, and it'll do the ball mill pattern.
24:06I have to make everything from scratch on this.
24:09I want to get these pieces done so they can go to the paint shop, and then I'll finish out all the chrome stuff.
24:16This is how it goes with a custom color and a paint match.
24:27It takes a lot of trial and error.
24:28That's what it takes to get there.
24:31So getting the color as close as we possibly can, step one.
24:34Step two, Rooster better be on his game, because he's got to make a killer blend on this door.
24:41We've got the color.
24:42Now we need to get rid of this stripe.
24:44Sandpaper, please.
24:46When you try to take the stripe off, it's very tricky, because you're trying to just take that one or two layers of color off of the existing base without digging a hole.
24:55So it is very tricky.
24:56You have to be very mindful of how you're standing and where you're standing.
25:03Blend is a way to trick the eye.
25:05So basically, if you have two colors that are very similar to each other, and say you blend out some of the new color over the old color, you just kind of feather it out and kind of let it mix.
25:19So you can't see, like, a defiant line of the difference.
25:24It kind of makes a transition where you can't tell the difference.
25:28This car looks great.
25:38The paint match is perfect.
25:40The stripe is gone.
25:41Now it's time to move on to wheels.
25:42What I'm going to do here is I'm going to make a wheel measurement chart for the wheels.
25:53Based on what's on there right now, I'll do the measurements of what that is, and then I'll go back and make the changes, and I'll do both front and rear.
26:02So this tire is way too big for this car.
26:06This is a 265-40-18.
26:08And because where we're at in the offset, you can see it's rubbed, though, but it's obviously come in contact.
26:15You see all the scrapes and all the marks on the front corner of this tire.
26:19This is rollout.
26:20And so right here, you see where the edge of the rim comes down.
26:24You have a lot more tires sticking out beyond that.
26:26So this is probably 10-inch overall wheel.
26:30And he's got about 12 inches almost rim there.
26:33Yeah, so that's a 9.
26:34So 18-by-9.
26:38If I just made a smaller tire size and go the same size of rim, the rim's probably fine.
26:43I'd have to agree with you on that.
26:45But there's so much rollout on this, it's crazy.
26:47Let's pull it off and look at it.
26:48The tire and wheel combination this has just doesn't really work for me.
26:53What we want to do is improve the look, get the right clearance, get the right stand, and have an all-around great-fitting wheel package on this car.
27:01You got no rubs anywhere here.
27:03Oh, right here.
27:04Right in the upper.
27:06That's just the wrong size of tire, straight up.
27:09It's five and three-quarter.
27:12Four and three-quarters.
27:13There's two things that you really want to do.
27:15You want to get every little measurement possible, and you want to leave yourself a little bit of leeway.
27:20Oh, I think this has a spacer.
27:21Can you imagine if it didn't have that quarter-inch spacer?
27:24There's no way it'd ever fit.
27:26Dave?
27:27Hmm?
27:28There to there, it's been rubbing.
27:30The only thing that saved the wheel is actually that the tire's wider here.
27:37Five and a half.
27:38So now the question is, do another three-piece.
27:41I can do an 11 and a half, which is 12 and a half overall, not 13.
27:45That gets rid of a half an inch inside to make sure that we're not hitting it.
27:49What are you going to put on it?
27:50Wheel-wise, definitely a five-spoke and something with a little bit of, like, probably a polished hoop.
27:57I'd rather go black center.
27:59That's one of the things that I don't like the 18-20.
28:03I like a 19 and 20 combo.
28:05That front wheel is two inches smaller rim, but only a half an inch overall height difference from the front to back.
28:12So the tire's taller?
28:14The front tire's profile is taller than the back tire.
28:17That's a no-no.
28:18That's like wearing a tank top over your shirt.
28:20Yeah.
28:22Beachfront Avenue!
28:24No?
28:25Okay.
28:25818?
28:27A1A.
28:28Whatever.
28:29What does that mean?
28:30I think that's the address.
28:32Vanilla Ice, a Floridian?
28:35Of course everybody knows that.
28:37Of course.
28:38Yeah, of course.
28:39Why wouldn't I know that?
28:48Ah!
28:49Ah!
28:49Old school, man.
28:52And these old collared lug nuts that were basically designed to be the hub-centric.
28:59This is such an old billet wheel design.
29:02I mean, it works, but there's a lot better ways to do it now.
29:06In the scrap pile they go.
29:08While the guys are working on a couple other projects at the moment, I got something super special for this 33,
29:12and I'm so excited, I'm going to put them on myself.
29:14Yeah!
29:15Out with the old, into the new.
29:16I really like this new wheel fitment, too, because the wheel's not sticking way out of the fender.
29:27I like them a little bit more tucked in.
29:28There we go.
29:29There we go.
29:33Junk pile.
29:34Kyle, you want to buy some wheels?
29:36I'm selling them real cheap.
29:38Come here you sweet little thing, give me a big ol' kiss.
29:46So one other thing I was really concerned with was the position of the valve stem.
29:50And the valve stem's basically, the caliper's right here, the valve stem's right here, it
29:54clears perfect, so we've got plenty of clearance for that, we're in great shape there.
29:58Plenty of room there, far out man.
30:04There we go, yeah that's good.
30:10Much better, the 17's in the rear, 15 by 5's up front, it's looking 100% sick.
30:25It's a beautiful car but I'm going to have to say it's a blast from the past.
30:28Circa 1986.
30:30We've successfully ripped all of the bad out of this Roadster.
30:35In the scrap pile they go.
30:36And while this Camaro doesn't have all of the old 80's billet stuff that this Ford does,
30:45we still have some issues we've got to cross the bridge with.
30:47I will say, not a fan of the stripe.
30:49The wheels are cool but they don't fit the style of the car at all.
30:52We're well on our way to taking both of these cars into the Kindig Classic chapters.
30:58Out with the old into the new.
31:00Got the front side of this thing machined, just a few little tabs that held it in there,
31:13so I'll cut those off.
31:17The dash pieces for the 33 project are really starting to take shape.
31:20It's got that finish, same as the gauge bezel on the passenger side.
31:25And then it's got this area that that chrome trim will go on.
31:28And that one's for the ignition and the headlight.
31:31This piece will get painted and then I'll just machine the Ford script.
31:36That piece will go to chrome and then it'll just get double side taped on there.
31:56Cool wheel, wrong car.
32:011985 called, they want their wheels back.
32:05I know you're not short on jokes today, you're short on everything else.
32:08You sure you guys don't want me to work out here every day with you?
32:12Every day, every day, please.
32:13Because I would.
32:14You want me to help you on that?
32:15No, I can do it.
32:16I got this car up real high.
32:22Yeah.
32:23This is a lot of wheel and tire for this car.
32:36For the size of the hole anyway.
32:37How's it look under there?
32:39I got fingered between.
32:42You might be all right.
32:43Man, you do all right for the fart timer.
32:45Yeah, you know.
32:46I got my moments.
32:47Looks like a Hot Wheels car now.
32:52Hey, just real quick.
32:5827,000 square feet, we're all working in the same 350 square feet.
33:15Kyle, what's up, dude?
33:29How much?
33:30How's this Camaro coming?
33:31Pretty good, man.
33:33All the sensors have been swapped out.
33:35We added fuel pressure sensor, added oil pressure sensor, and an idle air control valve.
33:40Has this never had an IAC on it?
33:41No.
33:42How did it control idle before?
33:43I think they just had the throttle blade cracked a little bit.
33:46Really?
33:47Yeah, so probably cold starts were a little rough.
33:49Maybe when the AC came on and-
33:51Yeah, probably-
33:52Wow.
33:53Probably stumbled a little bit.
33:54So this should actually be a really streetable car after that.
33:57100%.
33:58And it was really nice, too, because we just added a remote mount IAC, so we didn't have
34:02to modify the manifold or anything.
34:03I just teed into the bottom of it.
34:05So what's next?
34:06What do we got left?
34:07Obviously, we have the headers out.
34:08We're getting those repowder-coated.
34:10You've got the harness pretty much wrapped up.
34:12I took the Holley harness and kind of undid all of it and then made it fit to this engine.
34:17Just heat-shrinked all my connections and then extended some wires and shortened some
34:21wires so it'll fit to this engine.
34:24And then once we get the exhaust back, put it on.
34:26I'll probably get some fresh plugs for it.
34:28Okay.
34:29Do oil change.
34:30We're really not too far off on firing it up.
34:32Awesome.
34:33I'm pumped.
34:34Call me when it goes on the dyno.
34:35I can't wait to hear it run.
34:36Actually, you know what?
34:37Call me when you start it.
34:38So I want to see how smooth it might be.
34:40I'm going to start it first and then call you.
34:42That's fair.
34:43Do what you got to do.
34:44Sounds good.
34:45Later bro.
34:46See ya.
34:47Alright.
34:48I'm going to start feeding the longer ones through first and then you can pull lightly
34:56too.
34:57Okay.
34:58Now we got some of the big ones coming through.
35:01You got them?
35:02I have one.
35:03And then I'm going to feed a wideband connector through and that's all of them.
35:09Cool.
35:10We're good.
35:11Thanks man.
35:12That stuff goes up here.
35:15We're going to route this across.
35:19You know honestly some people don't really care how it looks.
35:22Some people just want it to run.
35:25But I like to find a balance between the two.
35:28Right?
35:29Looks good.
35:30Works good.
35:32Just like that.
35:33It's a little extra work but at the end of the day it really makes for a super clean
35:38install.
35:39There we go.
36:09The Camaro is not the only car making good progress around here.
36:12Perfect.
36:13And then the money.
36:16From the panels to the roof to the doors, everything is starting to really take shape
36:25in this 33 project.
36:26Oh there we go.
36:28The new fuel injection system is really one of the last things to do on this Camaro and
36:41the last thing I want to see is a bunch of steam coming out of it.
36:45It runs.
36:46No goopy noises from the engine.
36:48Good oil pressure.
36:49It stays cool.
36:50Setting up the dyno now and I'll start dialing in the fuel table.
36:55And once we get the fuel table dialed in, we'll kind of creep up on that and do some
37:00part throttle.
37:01We'll work our way up to full throttle and then see what it makes.
37:04Here comes dyno pull number one and each time we do this hopefully we get just a little bit
37:13more power.
37:14So basically what I'm doing right now is I have a base startup map configured for this
37:19car.
37:20I have a target air fuel table and a learn table so I'm using the learn table to see how
37:27the computer is correcting to match my target air fuel table.
37:33So right now above 3000 RPM part throttle, it's trying to add 9% fuel to that base VE table.
37:43We don't want to just let the computers try to correct the whole time.
37:47So we'll dial in the fuel table to where when we do a run, it's correcting less than 3%.
37:54Every car is a little different.
37:56Some will fight you.
37:57Sometimes you have little issues that you got to work through.
38:02Kyle has made some adjustments.
38:04It's time for pull number two.
38:05Everything should be fine.
38:13Too much power.
38:14It keeps blowing my exhaust tubes away.
38:15Now I'm going to have to get out ratchet straps and stuff.
38:20This Camaro engine is so powerful it literally blew the exhaust tubes off the car.
38:38It's okay.
38:39I've encountered this before.
38:44So they say third time's a charm so take three.
38:55It's kind of a process but it's the best way to do it just manually dialing in this fuel table.
39:10As long as you know what's going on in the engine, you know what kind of fuel you're going to be running.
39:14You can set your target air fuels and then adjust the fuel table to the VE table based on that.
39:22Just keep doing that until you get it dialed in.
39:24So we'll go put it on the street and see what it does on the street.
39:37When it comes to speed and drivability on this 33, the upgrades are going to be second to none.
39:42Rotate it down a little bit more.
39:46Down.
39:47The other down.
39:48There you go.
39:49Now just right there.
39:50Right in there.
39:51This Borla 8 stack is going to make this baby fly.
39:54Throw a little more angle in this guy.
39:57Mark it to the outside and then sand some off on the inside.
40:02Yeah.
40:03And then three are good.
40:04Well, Professor Will figures out all of the angles on this exhaust tubing.
40:18We're going to finish up this Camaro.
40:20So basically right now I am just going to keep an eye on coolant temps and then I'll pull
40:27over shortly, open up the laptop and check fuel pressure and just make sure that our fuel pressure
40:34is staying consistent at about 45 psi where I left it.
40:38And if it does that, we're good.
40:39It doesn't take anything to get this car out of its own way.
40:55And usually with this kind of gearing and a smaller engine, it'll take quite a bit to
41:00pull through, but this thing makes so much torque at such little RPM.
41:09This car makes peak torque at like 3700 RPM.
41:14Most cars make peak torque much higher in the RPM band.
41:17So you have to rev the car way out to get all that torque.
41:21But this thing is just like your corn fed friend from the Midwest.
41:25And you're like, hey man, can you help me lift this couch?
41:28And then he just lifts the couch by himself.
41:30And you're like, all right, well, never mind.
41:31Cool.
41:39Gobs of torque.
41:44So much torque.
41:47I love it.
41:48I think we're going to hit that goal where this car is just start it up and go about your
41:55way.
41:56No special rules on how to drive it or, you know, don't give it gas until it reaches this
42:01temperature kind of thing.
42:02We just fired this thing up and started taking it for a drive.
42:05So I'm pretty happy with it.
42:08This car runs great, drives great, handles great.
42:12Hopefully the computer shows us the same information.
42:15Stop in here.
42:17Pull over in the gym.
42:19Not to work out.
42:21I'm going to find a little shady spot and see if we can take a look at some data here.
42:38I'll admit there's definitely good news, but it's not all sunshine and roses.
42:43Coolant temps are nice.
42:47We are down on fuel pressure.
42:50So I'll make a change to the regulator to bring that back up.
42:54The deeper I look, the darker it's getting.
42:58What was happening because of the low fuel pressure is this thing was trying to compensate
43:03for the lack of fuel pressure to meet our target air fuel ratios.
43:07So, you know, we're almost 10%, which is not acceptable.
43:12In other words, we got some work to do.
43:15I got to get this fuel pressure dialed in and I'm kind of avoiding looking underneath the hood right now.
43:20That's not what we wanted to see.
