Part 2 of 3 of the 1989 drama. Tom and Kathy embark on an affair, but Tom feels self conscious about the age difference and his working class origins compared to the more expensive lifestyle of Kathy. His wife Liz is unaware of the affair, but becomes concerned by Tom's late nights at work and his sudden distant behaviour towards her. She is also disturbed by her friend Joyce's revelation that she is having an affair with the catering manager where they work together. As Tom and Kathy's affair continues, Tom becomes obsessed by her, but his desperation to see her when her husband Martin organizes a work's dinner at her home threatens to blow the affair wide open in public.

02:53Is that what you normally do?
02:57Oh, I didn't mean it to come out by the way.
02:58I'm not shy.
03:05It's all right for you.
03:06You've got a nice figure, nice skin.
03:09I've got a spare tyre.
03:11It's worn as well.
03:12Well, I know that you're used to seeing only, well, lean cuisines.
03:22You compare me.
03:23You...
03:27You won't be able to help me.
03:34I'm here with you.
03:36At the moment, that's what I prefer.
03:38Undo me.
03:51Be rude with me.
04:06You're all right.
04:06Teased off a bit now.
04:11Bad crime, you say?
04:13Yeah, it's the same sort of pain.
04:16Perhaps it's psychological.
04:18Your body wants to be, your mind will, ain't it?
04:20Look, I know why it came on.
04:23It's too soon.
04:26At least she didn't say it was a sign from God.
04:33We better not.
04:36Let me give you a cuddle, instead.
04:43Do you mind?
05:00Of course not.
05:02I'm still glad we came.
05:06This is the closest we've been.
05:07There are other things we can do.
05:20We're quiet.
05:21You're now alone.
05:21What's wrong with that?
05:22You're now alone.
05:22You're now alone.
05:23You're now alone.
05:24You're quiet.
05:46You're now allowed.
05:48What's wrong with that?
05:52I didn't mean...
05:53I didn't mean it as a compliment.
06:00Did you do that with him?
06:03It's natural.
06:08Listen to Probe.
06:11We don't take the scenic route, if you know what I mean.
06:14I'd like you to return the compliment next time.
06:27When is that?
06:28Now.
06:33You'll be all right.
06:34I've got a torch.
06:38I've got a torch.
06:40Ha, ha, ha, ha.

08:03But once you do, you're fine.
08:04That's today's dish of the day.
08:10You can get your own back next week, if you like.
08:12How do you mean?
08:13I'm organising a girls' night out.
08:20Or maybe he thought I was being over-familiar.
08:23Well, he's quite high up.
08:25It's nothing.
08:25What's wrong?
08:45Nothing.
08:47Don't you like the way I eat all of a sudden?
08:50I never say anything.
08:51One of the blokes has asked me to go round and do some work on his car.
09:07I'm late already.
09:08He never said.
09:14That programme's on that you like.
09:17I promised him.
09:21See you later.

11:45What do you have in mind?
11:46A gondola?

11:52Only proper places for somebody, aren't you?
11:54Mm.
11:55How could they're romantic?
11:56Don't give me that and you're so precious talk.

13:36I'm sorry.
14:06I'm sorry to hear you.
14:36I'm sorry to turn up in a short white skirt and have a Chinzano afterwards.
14:43It's called having a stab at social life.
14:46It's called joining in.
14:50I'll come next time.
14:51I bet you might have a relapse by then.
14:56Or some other excuse for doing your own thing.
14:58You can get away with that in London, but it's conspicuous here.
15:03It's embarrassing.
15:04I don't mean to embarrass you.
15:06No.
15:07You just mean to punish me.
15:09Punish me for what we both agreed on anyway.
15:11Well, you won't even play badminton with me.
15:20Let alone give me access to your precious bloody ape, Nick.
15:24You're confiscating everything.
15:26That's what you're doing.
15:27Well, say something, then.
15:32I'm sorry.
15:34What does that mean?
15:35Everything will be all right soon.
15:37I want everything to be all right now.
15:39I want normal service to be resumed as soon as possible.
15:46Normal, normal, normal.
15:55Well, do something, then, you bitch!
16:01Do it to me.
16:04Come on, just do whatever you want.

16:09Why should I?
16:39Because I don't know.
16:41I don't know.
16:42Tom?
16:59Tom, what are you doing down here?
17:05I must have dozed off in front of the tenor last night.
17:12I must have gone up in turny-ton.
17:17Captain?
17:19Why didn't you come straight up when you got in?
17:22I wasn't tired.
17:37Mutton dressed as lamb.
17:39What would you rather?
17:41Mutton dressed as mutton, just like you?
17:43Just be your age.
17:44No.
17:48At least I know what I am.
17:50A man with faggot down his front.
17:52And you serve custard for a living. Don't forget that.
17:55It's a night out.
17:57But you're always got up like that.
18:00You can look and behave like you've given up.

19:32A big hand.
19:33Can I go another?
19:33Yeah.

20:44Don't ask.
20:50Just enjoy.
20:54I feel bad.
20:55It was me that got me onto the circuit.

20:58I'm still grateful.
21:01Wasn't a lot of money.
21:02A day's work.
21:04Just for your bloody useless.

21:24I'm sorry, Raoul.
21:25It's a bit wonderful about tonight.
21:28Well, you're bloody entitled to be.
21:31All I was saying is, one way or another, we're in thrall to the lot of them.
21:36Well, I moved up.
21:38One way or another, we're going to gonings.
21:40How much are you today?

21:47You feel probablyожет.
21:49I wasn't a little bit late, I was in thrall.
21:51I can't remember when you're in thrall.
21:53Have the crowd and not even yet.
21:55Your contributions to me,fighters,
21:57I felt so much behind the fire.
21:58That was impressive how much it triggered.
21:59I was really terrified.
22:11One, two, three, go.
22:20Hello.
22:29You stupid fool.
22:51Kiss me.
22:53Stop the car and kiss me up against a tree.
22:56You'll have us wrap round one if you carry on like this.
22:59Where should you get these ideas from?
23:01From the bottom of a glass.
23:03Music, then.
23:05Food of love, eh?
23:13Really like this.
23:15Oh, a fair level to do this somewhere.
23:17Here we are, Joyce.
23:19You'd better watch him.
23:21Ray says he'll be home about one.
23:23I can't wait.
23:25Good night, love.
23:31Not a happy couple.
23:55Why didn't you want me to do your books tonight?
23:59You haven't got a clear head.

24:25I imagine your death, you know.
24:26What?
24:27I imagine your death, you know.
24:38What?
24:41How I'd feel.
24:45Sometimes I can feel the pain of losing you so keenly, I start crying.
24:54Do you? About me?
24:59It's too morbid.
25:02Just brought this on.
25:07Do you realise the thing we do most together is drive to the supermarket?
25:17Take me dancing.
25:25Whisper things.
25:28You're like this in the car.
25:30I'm sober now.
25:33I've got to work.

26:01Just in fancy.
26:03Joyce told me you got robbed the other night.
26:26Ray told her.
26:28They might have their ups and downs, but at least they tell each other things.
26:35What's with me?
26:37Not lately.
26:42How could you not tell me?
26:47I didn't want to have seen it.
26:49I didn't want to have seen it.
26:52Whatever happens to you, happens to me.
26:55The same's true to the way round, isn't it?
26:58I'm sorry.
27:01How much did they get?
27:02Oh, 40 quid.
27:19It smells of burnt toast.
27:30It smells of rust, then.
27:32I don't need this.
27:35Where are you going?
27:38Anywhere.
27:40And a bottle of House White, please.

28:40What do you want to know about her?
28:42You love her.
28:44Don't you?
28:46I've stopped sleeping with him.
28:53Why?
29:11Me?
29:12Well, weren't you jealous before?
29:15Yes.
29:18You must be pleased now, then.
29:20But it's your husband.
29:21He's got his rights.
29:22Oh, first things first.
29:24Stop making a shot of yourself.
29:28Just have your carbs.
29:30Whatever it is.
29:32Don't tell me what to do.
29:33I'm not your daughter.
29:34Is everything all right?
29:36Nothing we...
29:37Nothing we...
29:38Very nice, thank you.
29:42Look.
29:43I've not done this sort of thing before.
29:45I don't know what the rules are.
29:47What do you think I am?
29:48Miss Promiscuous?
29:49Hey, what?
29:50If you are in service.
29:51This is the same thing before.
29:52Then there's no other glass.
29:53To us.
29:55Oh, here's no other glass.
29:56Kids, eh?
29:57Go to heaven.
29:58We'll be back in a minute.
29:59We'll be back in a minute.
30:20Oh bollocks to this.
30:29Come out!
30:31The waiters think we're trying to get out without paying the bill.
30:33You've got a cheque book. Pay them.
30:35Well, it's a joint account. She'll find out.
30:39What are you doing?
30:41Putting my cap in. You know I'm always ready for a quick one.
30:45You're shameless.
30:49Cathy, I...
30:51You think I can conduct this affair like it's a bloody evening class!
30:54Just...
30:57Can't you see we're having a private conversation?
30:59Could you come back in a minute, please?
31:02Oh, look!
31:05I'm not even bloody sure what you want from me.
31:07All I do know is that I feel more than...
31:11That's just your fancy man!
31:17Oh!
31:25They're going to suit you.
31:27Honest.
31:32It's a bit...
31:33It's what you need.
31:36What do you mean?
31:37Grinding up.
31:38Nice lipstick encourages you to smile more.
31:40It's a well-known fact.
31:41Bastards.
31:42What's wrong with me?
31:45Why don't you and me come round one night for drinks?
31:47You know.
31:48Just the four of us.
31:49Good.
31:50Nice.
31:51Ready, ladies?
31:52Almost twelve.
32:03Shaney couldn't make me in last night.
32:05Yeah, Cathy, uh...
32:06Suffering from agoraphobia?
32:09You know, I'd never heard of Kyle Cosley till I joined him, Foucault.
32:12A spirit of cooperation and joining in.
32:15Makes sense, doesn't it, really?
32:17The idea that work suffers.
32:19If colleagues don't spend their private lives together as well.
32:21Fish, please.
32:23Preferably with wives in tow.
32:25Shut up, smart ass!
32:36Come on!
32:37Come on!
32:41Is anybody watching?
32:42No!
32:43They've said much about what you used to do.
33:02Not much to say.
33:04Won't take long, then, will it?
33:06I made shafts for lawnmower engines.
33:09Helped to keep the gardens of England in trim.
33:12I cut them out on a lathe.
33:14Is that where all the sparks fly after you have to wear goggles?
33:17It's all changing.
33:19Now you have to run a computer program.
33:21I couldn't get on with it.
33:23I have to leave.
33:27Let's have another go.
33:28Let's go.
33:29Let's go.
33:47Self-imposed exile, Martin?
33:49Something like that.
33:51Compatibility problem?
33:53What is your problem?
33:55It's just a pain in the arse sometimes.
34:02It's nothing much.
34:06I can handle it.
34:10The team in a functioning mode.
34:13That's the main thing.
34:14Roger.
34:15It's your attention date.
34:33Sorry about that.
34:35That's all right.
34:36Don't take any notice of me.
34:40Listen, er...
34:41I'm organising a dinner party for next week.
34:43Friday, okay?
34:46So, er...
34:47Tell Angela and Christy.
34:56Are you still mobile?
34:58Legs, please respond.
35:06When's the next time we can meet, then?
35:11Tuesday.
35:14Okay.
35:24I wish we could go away somewhere.

36:21Well, Ray's been doing it longer.
36:23He knows how to make most of it.
36:25And he's greedier.

57:39From Poldark to Wolf Hall, more classic and period dramas over on BBC iPlayer.
58:39All these things they say, say that love might be a very fair, if only it could be, and maybe love is more than anything.
58:51And all these things like buildings, and places, and memories, and faces, like buildings, and places, and memories, and faces, don't cover anything.
