01:10Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Ana Marrero from the Telesur headquarters
01:15in Caracas, Venezuela. We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:27The registration of candidates to the city governors and legislative councils and national
01:37assembly deputies continue in Venezuela ahead of the May 25th elections.
01:44According to the nation's electoral council, the parties can nominate or amend their candidates

01:56The May 25th election will involve 24 governorships, the legislative councils of each state, and
02:04deputies to the national assembly across the country.
02:16In Honduras, experts from the community of Latin America and the Caribbean states discussed
02:21the points to be submitted to the foreign ministers of the regional organizations for
02:26approval of the head of state summit on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
02:33The event began this Monday with the participation of national coordinators from 33 member countries
02:39who will work on the technical aspects of the summit's draft declaration to be approved
02:44by the foreign ministers and head of states.
02:47According to the experts, this draft will be marked the line of work and policy measures
02:52from the region in the coming years.
02:55The meeting also seeks to advance the regional agenda and strengthen cooperation ties between
03:01Latin American and Caribbean nations.
03:03It is expected that at the end of the summit and during Presidency of Madecastro, we will
03:08hand over the temporary presidency of the organization to her Colombian counterpart,
03:13Gustavo Petro.
03:14The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, referred on Wednesday her attendance to the
03:27summit of the community of Latin America and Caribbean states, allowed to be held in Honduras
03:31from April the 8th to the 9th.
03:38I think it is an important moment to talk about the unity of Latin America and the Caribbean.
03:47Not only with the presidents who come from a progressive movement, but because of the
03:54importance of broadening the relationship between Latin America and the Caribbean.
04:02We are a region with enormous potential, a very close culture.
04:11That is part of what I will say.
04:16In Mexico, more than 40,000 people attend a national boxing class led by President Claudia
04:21Sheinbaum with boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez and Roberto Manos de Piedra Durán.
04:27The class was held at the Zócalo in Mexico City in Honduras, slogans stay away from drugs,
04:32fentanyl kills you.
04:34The president highlighted that the activity was a historic event and a symbol of the spirit
04:38that characterized the country.
04:49In Brazil, thousands of supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro took part in a rally
04:53demanding amnesty for those convicted in the attempt to kill the town on January 8th,
04:592023.
05:00Byway demonstrators gathered on one of the main avenues of Sao Paulo wearing Brazilian
05:04national team t-shirts while a sudden wave of floods of the US and Israel.
05:10This was the second march organized by former President Bolsonaro, who is currently charged
05:14in the Federal Supreme Court for his involvement in the coup attempt against current President
05:19Luiz Inácio Lula Silva after the 2022 elections.
05:22Bolsonaro used the platform to declare that his disqualification to run for the next elections
05:28in 2026 represents an alleged denial of democracy.
05:41The 21st edition of the Freeland Camp, Brazil's largest indigenous mobilization, took off
05:46in Brasília on Monday in homage to the 20th anniversary of the articulation of indigenous
05:54peoples of Brazil, APIP.
05:56Close to 10,000 indigenous peoples from all regions of Brazil and Latin America are expected
06:01to attend the gathering that takes place from April 7th to the 12th with a program that
06:08includes plenary sessions, debates, cultural activities and street demonstrations.
06:14The event has at the center of debates the suspended status of a law put in the 701
06:22Temporary Front Wall Law, which is the subject of several lawsuits before the Federal Supreme
06:27Court.
06:35We are here.
06:37We are expecting between 8 to 10,000 indigenous people.
06:42From all over Brazil and Latin America as well.
06:47It is also the main struggle we bring here.
06:51It's about the survival of life and the continued defense of the planet.
06:57Among our complaints are the criminalization, the persecution of indigenous leaders, the
07:02assassinations, and above all, we also look at the issue of financing that is made in
07:07the name of conservation, in the name of climate change, in the name of large millions and
07:12does not reach the territory.
07:17In Cuba, the President and First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist
07:21Party Miguel Díaz-Canel, prised Monday the meeting of the Council of Ministers alongside
07:26Prime Minister Emmanuel Marrero Cruz.
07:29Among the main issues tackled by the leaders were the current government plan to create
07:34these tortions and reboot the domestic economy.
07:40In this regard, First Deputy Minister of Economy and Planning Mildred Granadillo informed
07:47that the new mechanisms for managing, controlling, and allocating foreign currency has been pursued
07:53since March.
07:55In addition, she noted that governmental officials and experts were assessing the risks and consequences
08:01of such mechanisms.

08:27On Monday, the Cuban government reaffirmed its commitment to the promotion of health
08:33for all people in all countries of the world.
08:35On the occasion of World Health Day, Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez reaffirmed
08:40that they will continue providing solidarity and assistance to the nations that require
08:45it.
08:46Rodríguez also pointed out that in the Caribbean, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and
08:50Asia, the experience, dedication, and quality of services provided by Cuban medical brigades
08:57are highly acknowledged.
08:58The foreign minister said that solidarity and humanism are unknown values to the capital
09:05and anti-Cuban politicians of the U.S. in reference to this lender campaign promoted
09:11by the U.S.
09:12In commemoration of World Health Day, the Women's Front of the Paraguayan Piahura Party,
09:26together with other union movements, demanded that the government of Santiago Peña implement
09:31better conditions in public health.
09:33Public health unions mobilized in front of the health ministry headquarters in the capital
09:38city Asunción and other departments of the country to demand that the government address
09:43the crisis facing the public health sector.
09:46The same maintains a shortage of medicine supplies and the possibility of carrying out
09:52studies such as ultrasounds or diagnograms, manifesting the increased immortality of newborns
10:00due to shortages of hospitals and the economic crisis that plagued the country.
10:09We come to demand our right to a free and quality public health, nothing more and nothing
10:19less, a right that is guaranteed in the national constitution.
10:24But what are our authorities doing?
10:27They make a mockery of the people.
10:29Go figure, they set up a place for providing neonatal therapy.
10:34Then three days later, three or four days later, a newborn dies for lack of intensive
10:40care in that place.
10:42What else do we expect from our government?
10:47In the United States, the Trump administration has asked the Supreme Court to block an order
10:57to return a man erroneously deported to El Salvador.
11:01The order issued on Friday by U.S. District Judge Paula Saxony requires officials to
11:06bring Marquit Mara and Armando Abrego-Garcia to Maryland, who was mistakenly deported to
11:13El Salvador.
11:14This in response to a lawsuit filed by the man and his family.
11:17Precisely, Trump's lawyers have admitted in court documents that the administration
11:21supported a father of three due to a clerical error, but said they could not bring him back
11:30because he is in Salvadorian custody.
11:33His case has added to the already considerable legal scrutiny of Royal House campaigns to
11:39deport migrants without hearing or review.
11:50The New York Stock Exchange opened on Monday in red numbers for the third consecutive day
11:55that U.S. President Trump stated he would not back off his trip, while reinforcing
12:01fears of a global economic downturn.
12:03Precisely, the S&P 500 shares index, the broad measures of U.S. shares, has down 3.4% as
12:13it started trading briefly in trading to bear market territory, which means more than 20%
12:18below its record high.
12:20This after the more losses in Asia and Europe.
12:24In addition, the Dow Jones Industrial Average had a fall of 3.1%, while the tech faculty's
12:31Nasdaq index has down 3.9%.
12:34In this scenario, analysis points out that Wall Street has lost around 13% of its value
12:41since the tariff unveiled on Thursday that traders are underscoring that the trade war
12:46is increasing the risk of an economic U.S. recession.
12:57Meanwhile, European and Asian stock markets opened sharply lower on Monday on fears of
13:03a full blow to the world and a recession triggered by U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff on
13:08trading partners.
13:10The Frankfurt Stock Exchange fell 10% while the main index in France, Belgium, Austria,
13:16Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Sweden fell around 6%.
13:20The main stock market index in Asia dropped more than 5%.
13:25Japan's Nikkei index fell 5.76% while South Korea's Kospi fell 4.8%.
13:35In general terms, stock markets around the world have reacted with sharp falls to the
13:41trade war initiated by the Trump administration.
13:46In this context, U.S. President Trump took to the platform Truth Social to announce the
13:57imposition of around 50% tariffs on China's effective April 9.
14:02In his post, the president stated,
14:05Yesterday, China issued a retaliatory tariff of 3.4% on top of the already record-setting
14:14tariffs, non-monetary tariffs, illegal subsidies of companies and massive long-term currency
14:21manipulation.
14:22Despite my warnings that any country that retaliates against the U.S. by issuing additional
14:29tariffs above and beyond the already existing long-term tariff abuse of our nation will
14:36be immediately met with new and sustainably higher tariffs over and above those initially
14:43set.
14:44Therefore, if China does not withdraw the 34% increase above the already long-term treaty
14:50abuses by tomorrow, April 8, 2025, the U.S. will impose additional tariffs of China of
14:5650% effective April 9.
14:59Additionally, all talks with China concerning their request meeting with the U.S. will be
15:05terminated.
15:06Negotiations with other countries, which have also requested meetings, will begin taking
15:11place immediately.
15:12In this regard, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen stated on
15:25Monday that the EU has offered the United States a zero-for-zero tariff on industrial
15:30goods as the regions work to avoid a trade war with the North American nation.
15:37We stand ready to negotiate with the United States.
15:40Indeed, we have offered zero-for-zero tariffs for industrial goods, as we have successfully
15:46done with many other trading partners, because Europe is always ready for a good deal, so
15:53we keep it on the table.

18:45organized by the Indonesian People's Alliance for the Palestinian Defenders.
18:50In addition, Indonesians demand the World Health Organization protect international
18:55health workers attending to civilian wounded in the Gaza Strip.
18:59The protests came after the eight Red Crescent personnel, six civil defense workers and a
19:05UN staffer were killed in an Israeli shooting in Rafah, southern Gaza, on March 23, an action
19:11which has sparked international outrage as organizations worldwide demand accountability
19:47The cruelty that is happening now is beyond the limits of humanity.
19:52The situation in Gaza demands that we just have to be human enough to care about the
19:55conditions that are happening in Gaza.
19:58We don't need to be Muslims, we just need to be human beings who have a conscience.
20:03Moving on, on Monday the death toll from Myanmar's earthquake rose to 3,600 with 5,017 people

20:35Organization, have sent rescuers and resources to the aid of the aftermath.
