00:00Overnight, Israeli swarming drones have invaded the Gaza Strip on Friday morning and killed
00:1630 Gazans, including children.
00:22In Peru, the Public Prosecutor's Office of Central Lima intervened in some offices of
00:27the Congress following a report of an alleged prostitution network.
00:35And South Korean authorities on Friday called off an operation to arrest President Yun Sung
00:39Gyeol following the declaration of martial law last December.
00:51Hello and welcome to From the South.
00:52My name is Belén de los Santos and from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba, we begin with the
00:57news.
01:14Now we begin with the information.
01:15Overnight, Israeli swarming drones have invaded the Gaza Strip on Friday morning and killed
01:20around 30 Gazans, including children.
01:23The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, the staff refer that tens of women and children were hit to
01:28death in the middle of the Gaza Strip, including Nusrat, Sawada, Al-Maghazi and Deir al-Bala
01:34areas.
01:35Meanwhile, Israeli forces issued an order to evacuate immediately the Indonesian hospital,
01:40which is full of women and children, some injured, who cannot even move in northern
01:46Gaza, whereas the regime keeps on firing nearby that care center.
01:52Currently, the Israeli army aims at broadening its operations in this area.
01:57Nonetheless, both Israeli and Palestinian sides are negotiating a ceasefire, among other
02:03issues with mediating nations as Qatar and Egypt.
02:13And the spokesperson of the Palestinian civil defense, Mohamed Bassal, denounced that what
02:18is happening now in the Gaza Strip, especially in the city of Gaza, is a clear madness for
02:25the Israeli occupation forces and we can no longer respond to all the calls for help in
02:30light of the continuous shelling and attacks that have not stopped.
02:40We were sleeping in God's safety.
02:42We had nothing to do with anything.
02:43The people were all civilians.
02:45We woke up to the missile strike.
02:47We found the whole house disintegrated, the martyrs dismembered, the women and children
02:51dismembered, all civilians.
02:53The Israelis target only civilians.
02:58We continue.
02:59In Palestine, dozens of people flocked to a local clinic run by UNICEF-supported Ard
03:04Al-Issan Association for medical checkups for their malnourished children.
03:09By the end of August 2024, the United Nations found that nearly 15,000 children in the Gaza
03:15Strip were suffering from malnutrition, including 2,288 children with severe acute malnutrition
03:23after screening some 240,000 children in the region.
03:28Displaced families report weakened immunity among their children due to hunger and malnutrition,
03:34increasing their vulnerability to cold waves.
03:37In addition, the number of deaths among displaced people due to freezing temperatures have also
03:42increased in recent days.
03:49And despite this context, Palestinians reaffirm their firm commitment to the struggle to regain
03:54their inalienable rights despite the Israeli ongoing genocidal attacks against the civilian
04:00population of the Gaza Strip.
04:02The resistance of Gazans in the face of the Israeli war machine that has killed tens of
04:07thousands of people is evidenced by stories like that of 50-year-old pediatrician and
04:12father of six, Dr. Khaled Al-Saidi.
04:14Khaled's neighborhood was attacked, resulting in an injury to his left leg that required
04:20amputation.
04:21Despite this injury and other challenges he has faced, Khaled remains committed to his
04:26work and continues his humanitarian mission with determination and dedication.
04:32He is currently working at the Al-Qaza Martyrs Hospital in the city of Deir Ebbala.
04:43I am Dr. Khaled Ahmed Al-Saidi from Al-Burij camp in the central Gaza Strip.
04:49I work in Al-Qaza Martyrs Hospital.
04:52I was injured after the attack on our house in the area.
04:57I was displaced and took refuge in the hospital shortly after the war began.
05:02However, the area where my wife and children were was attacked, which led me to bring them
05:08to the hospital, where we have been since then.
05:12After the amputation, I spent some time unable to move because of the wound.
05:18I decided to go back to work because I believe that medicine is not only a profession, but
05:25also a humanitarian and service mission that cannot be abandoned.
05:30One must defy adversity, conditions and disabilities.
05:35My return to work was important not only for the patients, but for myself.
05:42And we go now to Syria, as the Zionist regime of Israel carried out several attacks in different
05:47areas of the country, including a factory of the Syrian defence industry.
05:52According to media reports, Israeli warplanes illegally entered Syrian airspace on Thursday
05:58night, causing massive explosions in the city of Aleppo.
06:02The explosions in the southeast of Aleppo correspond to the destruction of several defence
06:07industry factories in the suburbs of the city of Al-Safida.
06:12So far, there is no information about possible casualties and the amount of damage.
06:17The Zionist regime continues its attack against the region under the pretext of the alleged
06:23presence of Iran in the Arab country.
06:30Now we have a short break coming up, but before we invite you to join our TikTok channel at
06:34Telus for English, where you will find news in different formats, news updates and much
06:38more.
06:40Stay with us.
06:47Welcome back to From the South.
07:02We continue with the information.
07:04In the United States, two people were killed and 18 were injured when a small plane crashed
07:09into the roof of a commercial building in Southern California on Thursday.
07:13The crash occurred at 2.15 p.m. local time in Fullerton.
07:18Firefighters and police arrived on the scene, fought a fire that broke out and evacuated
07:23surrounding businesses.
07:25The fire damaged the warehouse, which appeared to contain sewing machines and fabrics.
07:30The building was occupied by Michael Nicholas Designs, a manufacturer of furniture upholstery.
07:36The Fullerton Police Department said that the pilot died in the crash.
07:41Ten people were taken to the hospital and eight were treated and released at the scene.
07:53We stay in the U.S. as in New Orleans, the police completed the on-site investigation
07:58following the lately incident in which U.S. Army veteran Shamsuddin Javara intentionally
08:03crashed his pickup truck into a crowd of revolvers on Bourbon Street, taking at least 14 lives
08:10and injuring 30 others.
08:12Locals have paid tribute to the fatal victims by creating a makeshift memorial nearby in
08:17which they have laid 14 yellow roses along a wall, erected crosses and even an indie
08:24jazz band performed a traditional music homage to them.
08:28In addition, workers around the place said to be sad, uptight for the rapid reopening
08:34of the site, as well as they are frightened into their future safety as violent incidents
08:41are on the upward trend lately in this neighborhood.
08:50In this regard, during her morning press conference, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum,
08:55condemned the violent incident and expressed her solidarity to the families of the victims.
09:02First, we condemn these acts.
09:04And as always, our solidarity goes to the families of the victims.
09:09There are two Mexicans in New Orleans who were there visiting.
09:12The consulate is already attending them, approaching them for anything they may need.
09:20We continue in Mexico as the first migrant caravan of 2025 heading to the U.S. started
09:26on Thursday with at least 1,500 people who began their pilgrimage from different countries
09:32in South America, Central America and the Caribbean.
09:35According to reports, this new migratory wave began in the town of Tapachula in the state
09:39of Chiapas in southeastern Mexico.
09:42The migrants began their journey along the coastal highway and have already reached their
09:48first destination, the municipality of Huehuetán, to continue their procession toward Huixla.
09:55The migrants seek to reach the U.S. before the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.
10:00Walking is not a crime.
10:09The comrades are going to do it.
10:12We ask Dr. Claudia Shine-Bompardo to help migrant women and children and not let them
10:17walk.
10:18And in Bolivia, the government approved five supreme decrees to boost the productivity
10:26sector and the country's economy.
10:29The Minister of Economy and Public Finances, Marcelo Montenegro, explained that the first
10:34decree is within the framework of import substitution and the industrialization program of the government
10:41of President Luis Arce.
10:44In addition, the other decrees include a zero tax on the import of hydrocarbons, mainly
10:50gasoline, diesel and crude oil, a zero tariff levy for the import of capital goods, for
10:56the implementation of biodiesel plants, the regularization of the General State Budget
11:012025 and the net profit of the multiple banks and small and medium-sized companies.
11:15The import of capital goods for the agricultural, industrial, construction and mining sectors
11:21will be granted a zero percent tariff.
11:24This will be done within the framework of the coherence of the import substitution program.
11:30In other news, in Peru, the Public Prosecutor's Office of Central Lima intervened in some
11:35offices of the Congress of the Republic following a report of an alleged prostitution network.
11:40According to local media, the authorities entered the premises of the parliament following
11:45a report that the alleged network was operating inside the Congress and involved high-ranking
11:51officials.
11:52During the raid, the prosecution team collected documents, including camera footage from inside
11:58the legislative complex, as well as reports from the Legal and Constitutional Office,
12:03the Security Office and the Human Resources Department.
12:06The case was opened following the murder of lawyer Andrea Vidal, whose death revealed
12:11the existence of an alleged prostitution network.
12:22And now we continue in Peru, as authorities reported on Thursday that the presence of
12:36abnormal swells in the north and center of the country will remain until Tuesday, January 7th.
12:42According to reports, the northwest swells will mainly affect areas with open or semi-open
12:48beaches oriented to the northwest and west.
12:52Since last Friday, especially in northern Peru, large waves have damaged dozens of boats
12:56and caused floodings in coastal towns, where water has reached businesses and homes and
13:02also caused the closure of 101 ports.
13:06Authorities recommended that the coastal population and people involved in fishing, sports and
13:10recreational activities take safety measures to avoid accidents and follow the provisions
13:16of the corresponding port authorities.
13:22Also, the National Meteorological Service of Bolivia maintains the Orange Alert in seven
13:27departments due to rains.
13:29The agency forecasts cloudiness, rainfall and thunderstorms for the next few days.
13:34The alert is specifically directed at areas where rainfall is constant, which increases
13:40the risk of river overflows.
13:42In this sense, the authorities call on the population to take the necessary precautions
13:47during the holiday season.

14:21Welcome back to From the South.
14:30South Korean authorities on Friday called off an operation to arrest President Yun Sung-kyo
14:36following the declaration of martial law last December.
14:39According to reports, the operation was called off at 1.30 pm after police officers held
14:45a standoff of more than three hours with the Presidential Security Service, which refused
14:50to provide access to the interior of the House.
14:53The spokesman for the Office for Corruption Investigations of high-ranking officials explained
14:59that the arrest warrant was virtually impossible to execute and that other measures to proceed
15:05with the arrest will be considered.
15:07The President's lawyers requested a court order to annul the warrant under the argument
15:13that only the Prosecutor's Office can request such arrest.
15:19Also, in South Korea, on Friday, authorities began lifting the wreckage of the Jeju Airplane
15:25that crashed on December 29 at Muan Airport.
15:28By using large cranes, sections of the aircraft's Scorched Fuselage started being lifted, including
15:35parts of the engine and the tail.
15:38According to on-site investigators, this phase of the recovery operation is expected to uncover
15:44more human remains from the 179 fatal victims of Flight 2216 crash.
15:51In this context, examinations are being conducted to identify the still-unknown cause of the
15:57incident, with police vowing to determine the responsibility swiftly, while the nation's
16:02transport ministry stated that the procedure could take six months to three years.
16:13The Brazilian Air Force began analysing on Thursday the recordings from the black box
16:18of the plane that crashed on December 25 in Kazakhstan, killing 38 people of the 67 that
16:24were on board.
16:25The investigation will help to indicate what caused the crash of the aircraft manufactured
16:30by the Brazilian company Embraer.
16:32Technicians and specialists from the Centre for Aeronautical Accident Research and Prevention
16:38analysed the material, accompanied by experts from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Russia.
16:44The data will be used for the reconstruction of the events, with virtual reality animation
16:49in three dimensions, determining the plane's trajectory, speed, flight altitude and the
16:53performance of the commands.
17:00In Montenegro, thousands of residents gathered in ZdenÄ› to honour the 12 victims killed
17:06after a shooting in the small town.
17:08Government authorities declared that three days of mourning and cancelled all planned
17:13New Year celebrations throughout the country.
17:16Statements from the town's residents point to the government's inaction in the events
17:20that have been taking place for past several years.
17:24With a population of around 620,000, the small Adriatic nation is known for its gun culture,
17:31with many of its citizens traditionally owning weapons.
17:39We go now to India, as authorities moved 337 tonnes of toxic waste from Bhopal, the sister
17:45to a waste disposal plant under heavy security measures.
17:50The toxic waste was transported in airtight bags in 12 large containers, escorted by dozens
17:56of police, ambulances and firemen to avoid incidents.
18:00The waste will be completely disposed of in a plant located in Pitambur, about 200
18:06kilometres from Bhopal.
18:08The waste will be combined with reactive substances and stored in small bags until incineration,
18:14which is scheduled to begin in about three months.
18:18Four decades ago, in this same city, the worst industrial disaster in history occurred, killing
18:245,295 people, according to government figures.
18:42And in other news, the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Matley, announced the celebration of the
18:47Karifesta festival in her country as an opportunity to consolidate resilience in the region.
18:52In her message, as newly inaugurated president of the Caribbean community CARICOM, the head
18:59of the government announced that between August 22nd and 31st, Barbados will host the 15th
19:06edition of the Karifesta.
19:08Matley invited representatives from all over the Caribbean to participate in the Caribbean
19:14Festival of the Arts, also known as Karifesta, an international multicultural event organized
19:21periodically by Caribbean countries.
19:28And on January 3rd, we remember the anniversary number 192 of the illegitimate occupation
19:35of the Argentine Islas Malvinas by British forces.
19:38On that date, in 1833, the territory of Islas Malvinas was illegally occupied by British
19:45forces, evicting the Argentine authorities legitimately established there.
19:49The almost bicentennial British occupation and the Argentine permissiveness consolidated
19:55day by day before the world of British illegal possession of this territory.
20:01According to the last Argentine constitutional reform of 1994, the recovery of these territories
20:07and the full exercise of sovereignty in agreement with the principle of international law constitute
20:14a permanent and unrenounceable objective of the Argentinian people.
20:20And like this, we have come to the end of this news brief.
