00:00Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from TeleSource Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:14We'll begin with the news. Stay with us.
00:30Under the slogan, United for the Great Homeland, Honduras welcomes the leaders who will participate in the upcoming 9th Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.
00:39The 9th Salak Summit will be held next April 9th at the Central Bank of Honduras building in Tegucigalpa,
00:45with the participation of at least 12 leaders and other representatives of the 33 member countries of the community.
00:50In this regard, at least 5,000 members of the National Police Force and 2,000 members of the Armed Forces
00:56will guarantee order, mobility and protection of citizens and foreign guests at the summit.
01:01It should be noted that during the summit, the Honduran President Xiomara Castro will hand over the pro-temporary presidency of Salak
01:08to her Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro.
01:14And on Tuesday, 33 foreign ministers and diplomatic representatives of Salak member countries
01:20fine-tuned the documents to be approved during Wednesday's 9th Head of State Summit.
01:24The summit will tackle issues such as the migratory crisis, climate change, education and regional integration.
01:31The meeting represents a crucial step towards the 9th Salak Summit,
01:35where the 33 member nations will define the strategic guidelines to consolidate the future of the region.
01:41Honduran Foreign Minister Eduardo Enrique Reina said that one of the main achievements of its national pro-temporary presidency
01:47under the leadership of President Xiomara Castro is to have preserved unity within Salak
01:52in spite of existing ideological differences.
01:54Let's move on.
02:17CELAC is a regional organization composed of 33 countries.
02:27All 33 countries are present.
02:29Some of them are not at the leadership level, but all of them have delegations.
02:33What comes out of CELAC will be the consensus of 33 nations, despite their differences and
02:39their different forms of government.
02:41This is the great achievement of President Castro, to hand over to President Petro a
02:45CELAC that remains in force, that remains united despite the differences.
02:51And the Foreign Minister of Venezuela, for his part, expressed that they have come with
02:55many expectations to reaffirm the need for Latin American unity to face complex times.
03:01It has been a warm welcome to this CELAC summit.
03:08We want to congratulate President Xiomara Castro, who has had a very intense year in the presidency
03:14pro-temporary of CELAC, and we come with many expectations to reaffirm the Bolivarian project
03:20of the creation of CELAC, to reaffirm the need for Latin American unity to face complex times.
03:29Under the leadership of the President in Honduras, it will be a very interesting summit, there
03:33will be very good debates, and we come with the Bolivarian strength.
03:37And in Brazil, the world conference dilemmas of humanity continues for the second day.
03:45Sao Paulo hosts one of the most significant meetings on the progressive spectrum from April
03:507th to the 10th.
03:51The meeting aims to promote an in-depth debate on the global crisis caused by capitalism
03:56and neoliberalism.
03:58The event, which brings together more than 70 intellectuals, political leaders and activists
04:02from different parts of the world, seeks to promote solutions to extreme poverty, social
04:07inequalities and the environmental crisis in a framework of joint cooperation and environmentally
04:12friendly.
04:21Venezuela commemorated Monday the 22nd birth anniversary of Flora Tristan, founder of Socialist Feminism.
04:28Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro commemorated the birth anniversary of the leader and highlighted
04:32her revolutionary commitment.
04:34Flora Tristan was born on April 7th, 1803 in Paris and died on November 14th, 1844 in Bordeaux.
04:45Among her most outstanding works are pilgrimage of an outcast, a selection of letters, a compilation
04:52of letters of the liberator Simon Bolivar, trade union, as well as two other books in favor of the
04:57divorce.
04:58Tristan was a declared defender of the rights and liberties of the working class, as well
05:03as a precursor of the feminist movement.
05:09And this Monday in France, a thick cloud of smoke covered much of the sky after a fire broke
05:13out at a recycling centre north of Paris.
05:16There were no fatalities in the incident.
05:18The fire destroyed the recycling centre located near the clergy gate northeast of the city.
05:23The materials stored at the time of the fire caused a thick cloud of smoke to spread across
05:28the sky.
05:29For their part, the firefighters called on the public not to pass through the affected areas
05:33to allow the emergency services to do the work.
05:40The government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has reported that the death toll
05:56from torridial rains in Kinshasa over the weekend rose to 33.
06:01In a statement, the Congolese Ministry of the Interior also reported that 46 people had been
06:05hospitalized and that more than 200 homes had been flooded after the yearly river overflowed
06:10its banks.
06:11The climatic phenomenon has caused difficulties for the inhabitants of the city, such as the
06:15interruption of the flow of drinking water and the cutting of power in different areas.
06:19So far, the authorities have opened four reception centres in the city, where they have received
06:25about 300 families.
06:26We now have a first break coming up.

07:01Welcome back.
07:02The Dominican Republic authorities reported at least 27 people dead and over 130 injured
07:06after a nightclub's roof collapsed in Santo Domingo.
07:10Local media said hundreds of people were trapped under the rubble, among them the well-known
07:14merengue singer Ruby Perez, who was rescued alive from the rubble and taken to hospital.
07:19Authorities also reported that Monte Cristo Governor Nelcy Milagro Cruz was among the deceased
07:24in the incident.
07:26In this regard, the Dominican government expressed its condolences to the victims' families and
07:30explained that relief agencies are deployed at the site to provide the necessary assistance
07:34and continue the rescue work.
07:40And the United States Secretary of Defense, Pete Hexeth, arrived at the Presidential Palace
07:45in Panama City to meet with President José Raúl Molino amidst repeated threats by U.S.
07:50President Donald Trump to retake the Panama Canal.
07:52Hexeth's agenda also includes talks with Panamanian Security Minister Frank Abrego in addition
07:58to a tour of the canal facilities.
08:00The military chief's visit has been accompanied by a growing U.S. military presence in the
08:05canal, with cargo planes and helicopter stations at the Panama Pacific Airport.
08:10In this context, organizations of the Pueblo Unido por la Vida Alliance have called for rallies
08:16in the capital to reject the visit, qualifying President Molino as a traitor to the homeland due
08:20to his surrenderist policies.
08:27And the U.S. Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration on Monday to use an 18th century
08:32wartime law to deport Venezuelan migrants but also ruled that the migrants must get a court
08:37hearing before they are taken from the United States.
08:40The court's action appears to bar the administration from immediately resuming the flights that last
08:44month carried hundreds of migrants to a notorious prison in El Salvador.
08:49The flights came soon after President Donald Trump invoked the Alien Enemies Act for the
08:54first time since World War II to justify the deportations under a presidential proclamation
08:59called Trent Aragua Gang, an invading force.
09:02The court ruling did not say anything about the flights which took off without providing the
09:07hearing the justices now say is necessary.
09:14The President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, reiterated his denunciation of the economic
09:19and commercial war initiated by the United States government while condemning Washington's
09:23imposition of trade sanctions against the peoples of the world.
09:26During his broadcast, Count Maduro Mas, President Maduro described the new tariff policy
09:30implemented by Donald Trump's administration as an economic nuclear war,
09:35emphasizing that the United States is also generating damage to its economy.
09:39The head of state informed that he would declare this Tuesday a national economic
09:43emergency in order to address the disturbances caused by the U.S. measures.
09:48The President also condemned the beginning of a media campaign about an escalation of
09:53criminality in the country after the return of Venezuelan migrants and the false flag
09:57cooperation coordinated between ExxonMobil executives and Guyanese authorities to simulate an
10:02attack against Venezuelan oil installations in the disputed area in view of the proximity of
10:07the CELAC summit.
10:14We say that it is a mistake to unleash a world economic trade war.
10:20We say that it is immoral to do so.
10:23As we have said before, that it is an immoral illegality and to harm the countries of the world
10:30with economic sanctions to colonize them.
10:33As they have tried for 65 years against Cuba.
10:36As they have tried and are trying to do against Venezuela or against Nicaragua or Russia or China
10:44or the Democratic Republic of Korea or against other peoples of the world, it is a mistake.
10:57And on Tuesday, China's Ministry of Commerce said it would fight to the end and take countermeasures
11:02against the United States to safeguard its interests after President Trump threatened an additional
11:0750% tariff on Chinese imports.
11:09Through a statement read out on CCTV, the Ministry of Commerce said that the United States' imposition
11:14of so-called reciprocal tariffs on China is completely groundless and it is a typical
11:18unilateral bullying practice.
11:20The countermeasures China has taken are aimed at safeguarding its sovereignty, security and
11:25development interests and maintaining the normal international trade order.
11:30Trump's threat Monday of additional tariffs on China raised fresh concerns that his drive to
11:34rebalance the global economy could intensify a financially destructive trade war.
11:40Stock markets from Tokyo to New York have become more unstable as the tariff war was forced.
11:51I want to stress once again that trade wars, tariff wars have no winners and protectionism has no way out.
11:59We Chinese are not troublemakers, but we will not flinch when trouble comes our way.
12:04Pressure, threats and blackmail are not the right way to deal with China.
12:09China will take necessary measures to firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
12:16If the US ignores the interests of the two countries and the international community and insists on a tariff war and a trade war, China will fight it to the end.
12:27Also in this regard, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, said on Tuesday that U.S. tariffs undermined the global order
12:37and urged the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to strengthen trade within the bloc.
12:42While the barrage of tariffs sweeping across the world in fast and furious fashion, we are witnessing the fraying of the global order.
12:58Therefore, ASEAN must rely more on itself. This means strengthening inter-ASEAN trade. We must move beyond rhetoric to execution.
13:10Thank you very much.

13:33I'm going to be right back.
14:01Welcome back.
14:02Israeli occupation forces mounted overnight raids against the Gaza Strip. As a result of such genocide offensive, some 23 Palestinians lost their lives.
14:10Palestinian rescue teams recovered bodies from the rubble after Israeli forces had hid a house in their Balatown, which killed 11 people.
14:19Mostly children and women.
14:21Meanwhile, local media reported that the occupation army struck the Bethlehia project in northern Gaza, which claimed seven lives, including a journalist.
14:29Since the outset of the Israeli campaign in the Palestinian enclave, the Netanyahu administration has slaughtered over 50,752 Palestinians, while around 115,000 have suffered injuries of all kinds.
14:41And in Tel Aviv, thousands of people rallied Monday for demanding a deal to release captives after they didn't stand for their government's decision to escalate attacks on the Gaza Strip.
14:56Israeli forces tightened up their offensive after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with U.S. President Donald Trump.
15:02In this context, picketers criticized the government's management and approach to the crisis.
15:07In addition, demonstrators questioned how authorities could sleep at night while Israeli hostages remain in danger.
15:13They further expressed that the situation has worsened as a result of the constant bumpings on Gaza.
15:18Furthermore, protesters urged the NSAID to reach a deal with the Hamas-Palestinian resistance movement to end hostilities and release the 59 Israeli hostages still held in the Gaza Strip.
15:28And the Foreign Minister of Iran, Said Abbas Arakshi, confirmed that indirect talks with the United States will start next Saturday in Oman.
15:41The minister stated that the upcoming talks were both an opportunity and a test.
15:45Earlier, Tehran had reaffirmed its readiness to hold these negotiations on the nuclear issue, in addition to having underscored the peaceful nature of its program.
15:53Meanwhile, the U.S. President Donald Trump had informed that there were direct negotiations and that he expected Israel to take part in any deal with Iran.
16:01However, the Trump administration has threatened Iran with the likelihood of mounting U.S. military incursions into Iranian territory.
16:08Our main goal in these talks is obviously to secure the rights of the Iranian people and to get the sanctions lifted.
16:20If the other side genuinely wants to work things out, I believe that goal is within reach.
16:24It really doesn't matter whether the talks are direct or indirect, right now, we prefer to keep them indirect.
16:30We haven't made any agreements to switch to direct talks because we don't see that as helpful for achieving the goals of the negotiation.
16:36If the other side shows real intent, we believe a deal can definitely be struck.
16:41So, as the saying goes, the ball is in the U.S. court.
16:44If they show up in Oman with genuine willingness, we'll certainly reach a result.
16:49And Russia's State Space Corporation, Roscosmos, announced on Tuesday that the Soyuz MS-27 manned spacecraft has successfully docked to the International Space Station.
17:03The spacecraft launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on the morning of April 8th.
17:08Caribbean Russian cosmonauts Sergei Ryzhyskov and Alexei Zubritsky, as well as NASA astronaut Johnny Kim.
17:16The Soyuz MS-27 traveled under an ultra-short two-orbit scheme and docked with a module on the Russian segment of the International Space Station.
17:24The expedition, which constitutes the 73rd long-term trip to the orbital outpost, is set to return to Earth on December 9th.
17:31During the eight-month space mission, the Russian cosmonauts will carry out 50 scientific experiments,
17:36including two new researches and two space walks.
