00:00Hello everybody, welcome back to the channel.
00:14My name's Kevin, I'm a geek, you are watching KevinTheGeek and welcome back to another double
00:18header day for Goodnight Sweetheart.
00:20So you know how it's working for series two, I'm basically doing two uploads in a day,
00:25one in the morning, one in the afternoon.
00:28And today this is the morning one, this is going out about seven o'clock and then the
00:32evening one will be going out around about five o'clock.
00:35And this one, I'm putting this out today because on this day, 83 years ago, Citizen Kane was
00:49released.
00:50One of the movies that is arguably one of the best movies of all time, it is considered.
00:55And I've never seen it, so I have no judgment on it.
00:59But apparently it is considered one of the best movies of all time.
01:03And so not quite normal on this day with something related to the war, something a little bit
01:09different with this week's one.
01:13So let's check out episode five, which is apparently called, Wish Me Luck, dot, dot,
01:17dot.
01:19Goodnight, sweetheart.
01:23All my prayers upon you.
01:27Goodnight, sweetheart.
01:30I'll be watching over you.
01:34Till then, my dear, may may best follow.
01:42Back where the dawn, a new day is dawn.
01:48Is on.
01:51You home?
01:54Yes.
01:57Make it a mess.
02:00You're pregnant, aren't you?
02:03Thanks a lot, Gary.
02:04The one thing I wanted more than the promotion, the one thing that you could say that was
02:08guaranteed to ruin this moment and you had to say it.
02:11You've been promoted.
02:12Assistant Personnel Manager.
02:13Oh, well done.
02:14That's really good.
02:16Only not quite as good as creating a new life.
02:19Is that what you meant?
02:20No.
02:21Look, any idiot can make a baby.
02:25It's why those Tory ministers keep knocking him out like frogs falling.
02:29Look, I'm sorry.
02:30You know, we've been talking about babies.
02:32You surprised me with a bottle of champagne.
02:33It was a natural assumption.
02:36Oh, come on.
02:37Let's have a drink, eh?
02:39You can tell me all about your new job.
02:43I know you're dying to.
02:46Is it more money?
02:47Naturally.
02:48And my own office.
02:49Seat in the executive dining room and occasional use of the company box.
02:52Not Wembley Stadium?
02:53Rolloff, perhaps.
02:54But don't panic.
02:55It's not compulsory.
02:56Well, I'm really pleased for you.
02:58We ought to go out and celebrate properly.
03:00You fancy that Malaysian place?
03:02Well, it'll be full.
03:03Well, we hurry up.
03:04We can be there by 8.30 before they run out of their little wooden skewers.
03:07Yeah, OK.
03:08Right, I'll go and change my jacket.
03:12Gary, leave it.
03:13It'll only be Stella wanting a chat.
03:15She'll have me on there for ages.
03:18Hi, Yvonne and Gary.
03:19I'm here at the moment, but please leave a message after the tone.
03:22Hi, Yvonne.
03:23It's only Stella.
03:24Told you.
03:25I'll ring you later.
03:26I hope Gary's OK about the new job being in Cheshire.
03:32Oh.
03:34Well, that's a bit far from the Triple Woods.
03:37Macclesfield, to be precise.
03:41But there's...
03:43This far.
03:45We'll have to move.
03:47And when were you planning on telling me about this?
03:49As you were moving the furniture into the removal van?
03:51No, when I thought you'd say yes without an argument.
03:53No chance.
03:54Moving out of London is a complete non-starter.
03:57Why?
03:58Because you can't travel back in time.
03:59Name?
04:00My mum and dad.
04:01Macclesfield's closer to Lincoln.
04:02Exactly.
04:03We'll have even less excuse not to visit.
04:07He's so antsy.
04:08This is my career we're talking about.
04:09Yeah, and what about my career?
04:11Well, if we move to Macclesfield, you might be able to get one.
04:15I think that's way up there on the list of the most hurtful things you've ever said to me.
04:18For your information, Ron is talking about making me Head of Marketing Development.
04:24And how many are there in Marketing Development, Gary?
04:27One.
04:29And who is that, Gary?
04:32Me.
04:35Well, it wouldn't be much of a promotion then, would it?
04:38I'll get my own rubber plant.
04:41Look, if you want me to go up there for a few days before I finally accept,
04:44why don't you come with me?
04:45There's no point.
04:46Gary, this is a chance for us to make a fresh start.
04:48Why are you being so obstructive?
04:50I'm not being obstructive.
04:51I'm just not going to move, all right?
04:55I'm pathetic.
04:57Yeah, yeah, that is safe to say.
05:04So unless we have another time travel portal up there,
05:08I think it's safe to say we're going to be staying in London.
05:11The pale shadow of a man.
05:12I am a weak-kneed eunuch.
05:14Tell me, do you still sleep in the house,
05:16or have you relegated yourself to a dog blanket in the backyard?
05:20You didn't see the way I stood there, trotting out these lame excuses for us not to move.
05:25I even told Yvonne you were going to make me Head of Marketing Development.
05:29Yeah, you're right.
05:31And the truth is I just couldn't face the idea of not being able to see Phoebe whenever I want.
05:36I should be right behind Yvonne.
05:37Supporting each other 100% is what marriage is all about.
05:41I'll have to tell Stella that.
05:42She'll laugh.
05:45Why should she find that funny?
05:47How long have you been married now?
05:48Five years.
05:49That's strange, you still talk like a novice.
05:52I don't think you're grasping the gravity of this situation.
05:55It's Friday.
05:56You always feel like you're selling Yvonne's shorts on Fridays.
06:00You'll spend a few days there and then your conscience will be clear.
06:03Of course, that means by Monday you'll feel bad for neglecting Phoebe,
06:07and you'll spend time with her, and the cycle starts again.
06:11Am I that predictable?
06:13The staff set the watches by you.
06:16Neither your staff know the intimate details of my personal life.
06:21You've told them, haven't you?
06:23Only that you've got two birds on the go.
06:27You've got some serious respect from the guys out there.
06:31I won't tell you what some of the women think, but if any of them offer you a coffee, don't accept.
06:37I can't go on like this.
06:39I'm going to get a grip.
06:40Commit myself to one girl.
06:43So when Yvonne's in Macclesfield,
06:47I'm going to leave my clothes on a bridge, fake my own suicide and disappear.
06:51Yeah, well, just so long as you don't do anything rash.
06:54Yvonne, I've thought about this. It's the best way.
06:57Yvonne can get on with making a success of her life,
07:00I'll move in with Phoebe, we'll get married and run the pub.
07:03And live happily ever after.
07:05The pressure's got to you. You're mad.
07:07You're out there with David Icke and anyone who fancies Fergie.
07:12My mind's made up, man.
07:14You won't last in 1941.
07:16You'll keep nipping back for beer cans with widgets and Wonderbra ads.
07:21It'll be a clean and final break.
07:23No way.
07:24You won't come back, even if I'm tempted.
07:27Well, Yvonne's leaving at five. I've got a lot to do.
07:29I'm not going to let you do this.
07:31You're not leaving this office until you come to your senses.
07:33Are you going to stand there and stop me leaving this room?
07:36For as long as it takes.
07:44PHONE RINGS
07:48PHONE RINGS
07:50Are you going to answer that?
07:51No.
07:52PHONE RINGS
07:54Could be a big order.
07:56PHONE RINGS
08:00Is it Stella?
08:02Stella, hi.
08:04Ron? No, he's just nipped down to the stockroom with that little blonde.
08:10No, don't be silly.
08:12That's just Gary's warped mind at play.
08:15Ron, you can't stop me.
08:17But I'm going to need your help.
08:25Ooh.
08:27Ooh.
08:30So.
08:32If Gary goes through with it.
08:34Because at the moment, I'm not entirely sure that he will actually go through with this.
08:41If he goes through with it.
08:43It's either going to be one of two things.
08:45Either he will stay there, I would say, at least until the end of the series.
08:54As in series two.
08:57And either then we'll either just solely do stuff in the past.
09:00Or we'll see stuff in the present day.
09:03And it might be like Yvonne having to go to Ron.
09:05Trying to maybe organise police searches or stuff like that.
09:10Maybe have Gary's funeral.
09:12Or if he does go through with it.
09:16He's not going to like it.
09:18Because you've got to think that's a very drastic thing that you're giving up.
09:22You're giving up the modern life and the modern amenities and stuff.
09:25And you're going back 40 years in the past.
09:27I think it's okay for fleeting visits.
09:30But would you want to live there permanently?
09:33And have raids going off all the time.
09:37And you might be part of conscription and stuff like that.
09:42Yeah.
09:44It's like going on a weekend summer trip to Skegness.
09:52And then you decide.
09:54I had a lot of fun there.
09:55I had a lot of fun this weekend.
09:57I'm going to live in Skegness permanently.
09:59And then you realise it's not the greatest place to be if you want to live there full time.
10:11All packed?
10:13Yeah. What was all that banging and drilling?
10:15Just doing a few of those little jobs I never got round to.
10:18I'll fix that cupboard.
10:20You sure it'll bear more than the weight of one packet of cuppa soup?
10:22Maybe that's all you need.
10:23You could swing off it.
10:25Maybe I will when I get back.
10:28I love you, my heart.
10:30God, I love you too.
10:32Hey, I've got a surprise for you.
10:37Lunch.
10:39And there's a bottle of Chablis in the fridge.
10:41God, I'm stunned.
10:43Great DIY, great food.
10:45All you have to do is get your sexual performance up to scratch and you'll be fully trained.
10:49I just wanted you to know how much I love you.
10:53Look, we're only going to be apart for a few days.
11:00Have you had some kind of premonition?
11:02I mean, if Macclesfield's going to be struck by a tidal wave, I wouldn't want to know.
11:07I know what this is all about.
11:10You're feeling guilty over the hard time you gave me about moving to Macclesfield.
11:14You realise I'm right and you just won't admit it.
11:18I knew it.
11:20Don't worry, I'm not going to make you say you were wrong.
11:22Oh!
11:25There goes another rip.
11:29Macclesfield is not the end of the world, Gary.
11:32No.
11:34But they do have the same postcodes.
11:40Oh.
11:45I'll be back before you know it.
11:48Are you sure you're alright?
11:50Yeah, of course.
11:52I'll ring you when I get there.
11:54Well, don't. I won't be here.
11:56While you're away, I thought I'd go up to Scotland, you know, see if I can crack the Celtic market for Ron.
12:01He's not very big north of the border.
12:04He's not very big south of it either, according to Stella.
12:08I'll see you when I see you then.
12:10Yeah.
12:12And don't forget...
12:14You're the best, okay?
12:16Yeah.
12:17You too.
12:22Hmm.
12:26Bye, Yvonne.
12:48You got everything?
12:50Co?
12:52Clean hanky?
12:54It's all set up.
12:56I'll leave it on the bridge.
12:57Be sure to weigh it down. You don't want it blowing into some passing garbage scout.
13:01You imagine.
13:02Everyone will assume I've just climbed into a bin bag and had myself taken away by the council.
13:08Well, I guess this is it.
13:10I guess it is.
13:13Keep an eye on Yvonne for me.
13:15Why don't you stop being a pillock, come home and keep an eye on her yourself?
13:19Ron, we've done this.
13:22I'll miss you.
13:24It's been a blast having a mate who's a time traveller.
13:27You took the top, that.
13:30Thanks for everything, Ron.
13:32What are you going to do?
13:34Punk.
13:36I'd rather you didn't.
13:38Us princes were macho blokes.
13:40Our hands accidentally brush when we reach for the ketchup.
13:43We feel the urge to talk about rugby for half an hour.
13:46No shake.
13:48Manly and not excessive.
13:49Manly and not excessively demonstrative.
13:57You have a good death.
14:04Does it really go through with it?
14:11And the next time you see an old man on the tube, give up your seat, eh?
14:15Could be me.
14:17Ooh.
14:19Ooh.
14:21That's a point.
14:23Because how old is he supposed to be?
14:25What, maybe 25 or so?
14:27So if he goes back to the 40s and 90s, so about 50 years later.
14:31Yeah, so, yeah.
14:33Theoretically, he could be around and be in his 70s.
14:38Ron.
14:40Ron, I've only got the white fibres for the chip.
14:42I've only got the white fibres for the chip.
14:55Ooh.
14:57So he's really gone through with it.
14:59And we're only like midway through this episode.
15:03This is going to be interesting now.
15:06I think by the end of this episode, we'll probably have a good sense of whether he's going to stay.
15:11Or whether he's going to try and make it permanently.
15:16At the moment, my money would be he's not going to stay.
15:20I just can't see it.
15:22Whether by the end of the episode or not, I don't know.
15:41If I should be captured by a Jerry Commando snapshot, taken back to Berlin and interrogated,
15:46they could use that information in their invasion plans.
15:51Reg, if the Waffen-SS do turn up in Trafalgar Square, it'll be by parachute.
15:56Not on a big red London bus they caught in Lambeth.
15:59They're a devilish, devious bunch, the Hunt.
16:02And what with me being a Bobby and all, better to be safe than sorry.
16:05So, I've forced myself to forget everything I knew about the transport system.
16:09I'd like to get to a position where I know nothing of any interest whatsoever.
16:16You're close, Reg. You're very close.
16:19Well, it's good of you to say so, sir.
16:22What's going on?
16:24It's just Reg making seconds seem like hours.
16:27I'm meaning the suitcase.
16:29You're not going away again, are you?
16:31Yeah. Yeah, I'm moving on.
16:33I've said goodbye to Cricklewood forever.
16:35Oh. So now it's my turn for the brush-off, is it?
16:39Well, it'd be a bit stupid of me, seeing as I'm planning on moving in around here.
16:43Oh, Gary.
16:46I thought you'd be pleased.
16:47Oh, I am.
16:48Did you hear that, Reg? Gary's going to come and live round here.
16:51Oh, good news. Welcome, son.
16:53Thanks.
16:54When can you do something like this? Where are you going to stay?
16:58I don't know.
16:59I suppose you could rent the room upstairs until you find somewhere.
17:03You know, I never thought of that.
17:06Yeah, bloody hell.
17:07I suppose you're right, aren't you?
17:09We were made for each other, you and me.
17:11If you're looking for rooms, I know someone with a couple to rent.
17:14No, there's no rush, Reg. I'm fine, thanks.
17:17Well, they're very comfy, by all accounts, and if you don't mind my saying so,
17:20I don't think it's quite seemly for you two to be living here together.
17:23Actually, Reg, I do mind you saying so.
17:25Hold on, Gary.
17:27Reg is probably right. I don't think the boy would be too keen on it.
17:30It's only just round the corner.
17:32In Ravenscroft Street, above the hat shop.
17:34I'm sure it'll all be tickety-boo. The owner's a lady friend of mine.
17:37Lady friends, right?
17:39No, no. It's strictly a professional acquaintance.
17:41She just occasionally buffs up my helmet.
17:45Whoa! Whoa!
17:47You're so disappointing, Reg.
17:49Look, there's nothing to stop me coming to visit you in your room, is there?
17:52There you go. Have that one on me.
17:54Oh, thanks very much.
17:56I can't tell you how chuffed I am you're going to be spending more time round here, Gary.
18:00I really enjoy our little chats, and now we're going to have lots more of them.
18:03And they'll all be about things of no interest whatsoever, won't they?
18:06Yeah.
18:08And you can bank on it, Sam.
18:12It's nice, Gary.
18:14I should hope so, for seven shillings and sixpence a week.
18:17No, it feels really homely.
18:19It's got a good blackout. Look.
18:24Do you want to get me talked about?
18:26Eh?
18:28There's only one reason you pull the blackout during the day.
18:30Hanky-panky.
18:32Oh. Oh, right.
18:35So, shall I let them up again, then?
18:37Yes.
18:41Do you know where I can buy a bedside cabinet?
18:44Ah, you'll be lucky.
18:46The only thing the shops aren't short of at the moment is shortages.
18:49Never mind. I saw one in the garden of a bombed-out house. I'll go and get that.
18:53That's looting.
18:55It's only an old broken bedside cabinet. What can they do to me?
18:58Shoot you.
18:59Really?
19:01Bedside cabinet?
19:03Pull that chair over and make do.
19:05What's your kitchen like?
19:07Small.
19:10Oh.
19:12You've got a mango.
19:14Yeah.
19:16More mod cons.
19:18Where did you get this bacon?
19:20Butchers.
19:22Well, it's all fatty.
19:24Well, it's all he had.
19:26Gary, you never buy the stuff on show. You have to ask for what's under the counter.
19:28The stuff he keeps for his regulars.
19:30I mean, what happened to all your American contacts?
19:33I can't see them anymore.
19:35Security reasons.
19:37So that's why you decided to move here?
19:40You need me to do your shopping for you now?
19:42Well, that and other things.
19:47Perhaps you should have left that blackout down.
19:49Well...
19:55Who is it?
19:56It's Mrs. Blossom, Mr. Sparrow.
19:58The landlady.
20:00There is a rule about having young ladies in your room.
20:02It's all right. I've already got one.
20:07Do you remember?
20:09I mean, everything that goes on up here, Mr. Sparrow.
20:13I ought to go anyway.
20:15I'm due on duty with the WVS in half an hour.
20:17OK.
20:19I'll see you later.
20:26Is that all hank but no spank?
20:28It doesn't count. Stick this in your pipe.
20:35Stop it, Mr. Sparrow!
20:38It says it here, it's got to be two!
20:48Four hours I spent wandering around looking for razorblades.
20:51Do you think I could find any?
20:53The thing that gets me is you know they've got some,
20:55but they're keeping them under the counter for the regulars.
20:57Tell me about it.
20:59In the queues. There's queues everywhere for everything.
21:02Is there really?
21:04I asked one bloke what he was queuing for and he didn't know.
21:06He just saw the queue and got on the end of it.
21:08I mean, what's happening to people?
21:15Baby?
21:17It's Hitler.
21:19You're making an exhibition of yourself.
21:21That's fair enough.
21:25Food shortages don't seem to affect that immense platter of lard...
21:28Hey-o!
21:30Gary, I am trying to watch this newsreel.
21:32Here, the Uniform Zeppelin is beating the surviving pilots
21:34from the Luftwaffe's first radio...
21:37...status of the race to which Britain's become accustomed.
21:39It's a very small affair...
21:41You know what it does to me.
21:43Go on, give us a kiss then.
21:45But let's hope that for Adolf Hitler it proves to have been a big mistake.
21:55We did have any coffee, so I couldn't get you one.
21:57You didn't get me a tea, did you?
21:59Now, be fair, that's not what you said.
22:01Coffee is what you asked for.
22:03There was no mention of any contingency plan.
22:05You could always go and get your own.
22:07No thanks, the intermission's started now.
22:09I'm surprised, surprised, there's a queue.
22:11All right, share mine.
22:13Oh, you all right for fire-watching duty tomorrow night?
22:15What?
22:17Fire-watching.
22:19Well, now you're resident in the area,
22:21you're obliged to go on the rota.
22:23Well, what's that?
22:25Well, I don't know, Reg, my leg's still a bit sore
22:27from where I tripped over that bicycle in the blackout.
22:29Well, surely that won't stop you doing your bit.
22:32No, no, yeah, you put me down, Reg.
22:36And that is the thing he didn't probably anticipate,
22:40being permanently around here.
22:42It's all well and good to go,
22:44I'm going to come in, it'll be all fun and games,
22:46we'll pull the blackout curtains down,
22:48have a bit of hanky-panky,
22:50and nip backwards and forwards.
22:52Yeah.
22:53There are downsides to living in the past.
22:56Ladies and gentlemen,
22:58due to circumstances beyond our control,
23:00we're unable to bring you tonight's main feature,
23:02Lady Amelson.
23:04However, we can bring you
23:06the ever-popular George Formby...
23:08Hey!
23:13Talk about downsides.
23:18How can anyone find that funny?
23:20I think it's funny.
23:21It's rubbish.
23:23Come on, let's go.
23:25No, I want to watch the film.
23:27But we can go back to my place.
23:29I can't, I have to go on duty later.
23:31Again?
23:33I saw more of you when I lived in...
23:35Cricklewood.
23:37All right, I'll wait for you in the pub.
23:39We're not opening tonight,
23:41the beer delivery never arrived.
23:43Well, I'm not going back in there,
23:45it's giving me the right hump.
23:47All right, well, you go then, Reg can see me home.
23:49All right, I will.
23:51Oh, lovely.
23:53Oh!
23:54I think he's still at it.
23:58Ah, I saw that.
24:01Ah, he brought his blitz-bomb with him.
24:03I heard I'm nowhere near the docks tonight.
24:11Can you please stop, please?
24:21Put that light out!
24:23It's clear off.
24:29Hmm.
24:31Right, let's see what's been happening.
24:35The war.
24:37The war.
24:39The war.
24:41George Formby.
24:44And, surprisingly enough, the war.
24:46The war.
24:48The war.
24:50And, surprisingly enough, the war.
24:53Now, where's all the scandal?
24:55There must be somebody in the royal family
24:57phoning somebody they shouldn't be.
25:01Well, if this is what newspapers were like
25:03before the sun rolled on page three.
25:09Last day of the Tess match today.
25:12There'll be highlights on the telly.
25:16Just imagine sitting there watching it
25:18with a six-pack and a Chinese takeaway.
25:20God, I'm hungry.
25:24There's only one thing not on the ration
25:26and I'm not getting any of that.
25:28Oh!
25:37Hello.
25:39I thought you were on duty.
25:41I phoned.
25:43Said I'd be late.
25:45I had to come round.
25:47I didn't want us to say goodnight the way we did.
25:48Just because I've moved in around here
25:50doesn't mean you have to start planning your life around me.
25:52No, no, I'd like to spend more time with you
25:54but it is difficult.
25:56I know.
25:58It's Mrs Bloss for a start.
26:00Still, we'll be all right tonight.
26:02As I was coming out of the cinema,
26:04she was going in.
26:06Actually, she'll be gone for ages.
26:09Well,
26:11in that case, come over here.
26:13Hmm.
26:15Oh, I think I'm going to like living around here.
26:19I also think I'm going to kill whoever that is.
26:22Who is it?
26:24It's David, sir.
26:26Oh, no.
26:28I don't want him to find me in here.
26:30Why? He's not your father.
26:32Yeah, but you know what he's like.
26:34He'll be disappointed in me and I'll feel terrible.
26:36Well,
26:38I don't know, hide under the bed till I get rid of him.
26:40I can't.
26:41Come on.
26:43Yeah, yeah, just come in.
26:45Go on, it'll be a laugh.
26:47What a palaver.
26:50What a palaver.
26:54Evening, Reg.
26:56Just thought I'd pop round.
26:58I didn't like to think of you sitting here on your own.
27:00Oh, well, that's nice of you, but I'm fine, honest.
27:02I don't suppose you fancy coming dancing, do you?
27:06Are you, Reg?
27:08Well, that's very kind of you, Reg, but you're not really my type.
27:10You are a wedge.
27:12No, I wondered if you fancied making up a foursome
27:14with the missus and her sister.
27:16They say she's not bad-looking from a distance.
27:18Well, that's very nice of you,
27:20but I think I'll give it a miss.
27:22As you like.
27:25Well, if you've got to get off, Reg,
27:27don't let me keep you.
27:29No, no, Rush.
27:31I'm sure the missus will find someone for a foxtrot.
27:33She usually does.
27:35Come on, Reg.
27:37Come on.
27:38Don't mind if I come in, do you?
27:40Well, I was just...
27:48Mrs. Bloss is a lovely woman, isn't she?
27:50Yes.
27:52Yes, she's very vigilant.
27:54I sometimes wonder what might have happened
27:56if I'd met her before I met my Minnie.
27:58Mm.
28:01Life.
28:03It's a funny thing, isn't it, son?
28:05Yes.
28:07Oh, thank God, an air raid.
28:09That's right.
28:11I thought they might give us a rest tonight.
28:13No, don't panic.
28:15It's the docks that get it tonight,
28:17apart from one bomb that falls on Gibbon's Furniture Warehouse.
28:19Well, I mean, that is,
28:21intelligence leads us to believe
28:23that a bomb might hit Gibbon's Furniture Warehouse,
28:25you know, and that's nowhere near here, is it?
28:27Gibbons.
28:29Gibbons.
28:31Sure, I used to know where that is.
28:33It's just around the corner.
28:35Oh.
28:37Oh.
28:42Oh, bloody hell.
28:46God, Yvonne.
28:48Oh, here we go.
28:50She must have heard about Gary.
28:52I've been dreading this.
28:54Ron, are you in there?
28:56You can't run away, Ron.
28:58This poor woman's searching for reasons.
29:00Shut up, Julia.
29:02You must speak to her.
29:04Ron!
29:05I can see your Mr. Globby's taking over the office.
29:08Ha, ha, ha, ha.
29:10Ha, ha, ha, ha.
29:13Sorry, I just needed a minute.
29:15He needs blackout curtains.
29:18I can't tell you how sorry I am.
29:20Stella's told you, has she?
29:22Yeah. It must hurt.
29:24Well, naturally I'm disappointed.
29:26But life goes on.
29:28Disappointed is a good start, Yvonne.
29:30But you mustn't bottle up your feelings.
29:32Well, there's no point in brooding, Ron.
29:33There'll be other jobs.
29:35Jobs?
29:37Right.
29:38So this one in Macclesfield's turned out to be a crock.
29:40All I can do is put it down to experience.
29:42Where's Gary?
29:44You haven't heard anything from him?
29:46Or about him?
29:48Well, not since he left for Scotland.
29:50Oh, he's not still there, is he?
29:52No. I mean, I've got no idea.
29:54Oh, come on, Ron. You must have a contact number for him.
29:56I'm sorry, Yvonne.
29:58You can't phone where Gary's gone.
30:00Oh, great.
30:02Just when I really needed him.
30:04That's definitely true.
30:06I've had a lousy time.
30:08Listen, Yvonne.
30:10I want you to know.
30:12I'll always be here.
30:14That's nice.
30:18If ever you need a strong shoulder to help you through the long, lonely nights.
30:22I beg your pardon?
30:24Anything you need.
30:26You just have to ask.
30:28I don't believe this.
30:29What?
30:30You making a pass at me.
30:31You said you'd give me anything I want in the long, lonely nights.
30:34I need support.
30:36I come in here feeling down.
30:38My husband is away God knows where.
30:40I'm defenceless and you try it on.
30:42You take one more step towards me and I'll put your groin in traction.
30:46Whoa.
30:48And I'll tell you something else.
30:50When Gary gets back, I'm telling him.
30:52Damn.
30:54I knew Gary's suicide was a bad idea.
30:56Because now I want to kill him myself.
31:01Phoebe, what shall I do with it?
31:03Well, just put it down there for now.
31:05It's a dirty, great parachute mine hanging off the school wall.
31:08Tell them to bring all the injured in here, Rich.
31:10What can I do to help?
31:12Do you know how to put on a bandage for a fracture of the lower jaw?
31:14Well, she'll answer no.
31:16Well, then go and put the kettle on.
31:18No, no, no. Go and help Vera with Albert over there.
31:20It's OK.
31:26Put him down.
31:31Oh, my God.
31:33Is it bad, son?
31:35Go on. I can take it.
31:37I'm sorry.
31:39It looks like you've lost your leg.
31:41Oh, God. Not another one.
31:47He lost that leg five years ago when he got drunk and fell down a coal hole.
31:51You'll be all right, Albert.
31:53You've just had a bang on the head.
31:55I'm sorry, Vera.
31:57It's OK.
31:59Yeah, you're all right, son.
32:01Look at this pain and suffering.
32:03This is from one bomb.
32:05Why weren't all these people down a shelter?
32:07Well, not everybody likes it down the shelter.
32:09They seem to take a chance on keeping their own beds.
32:11The poor old Sid there, he was up on a roof, so he really caught a packet.
32:14Up on the roof?
32:16And what did the stupid bugger have to do with it?
32:18I don't know.
32:20I don't know.
32:22I don't know.
32:24I don't know.
32:26I don't know.
32:27And what did the stupid bugger expect?
32:30What on earth was he doing up there?
32:32Fire watching.
32:34Like you're going to be doing tomorrow night.
32:46Oh, damn.
32:48I just want to check this.
32:50Colin Spall.
32:52I recognise that voice.
32:54I want to see if he is...
32:56Who I think he is.
32:58I recognise the name.
33:00Sorry.
33:02I recognise the voice.
33:04And yes, I think it is.
33:06Yeah.
33:08It was in Doctor Who.
33:10It was in the Cyberman two-parter.
33:12From series two of the new series.
33:17Damn.
33:19OK.
33:21So...
33:22Damn.
33:24Damn, damn, damn.
33:26So...
33:28Gary has committed suicide.
33:30Or...
33:32Committed suicide.
33:35This is going to be interesting.
33:39Because...
33:41Yeah.
33:42Straight away.
33:44Literally his first night there.
33:46He has realised...
33:48There are downsides to living.
33:50During the Blitz.
33:52And that's just a normal day.
33:54You know.
33:55You don't have much to do.
33:57And OK.
33:58We have to remember that.
34:00This was in the 90s.
34:02So...
34:03Things like...
34:04The internet.
34:05And...
34:06You know, like...
34:07Mobile phones.
34:08Stuff that we would have these days.
34:10Wasn't...
34:12Really a thing.
34:14But there still was those benefits.
34:16Like...
34:17Being able to walk.
34:18Like...
34:19Being able to watch cricket.
34:21If you are so inclined that way.
34:23You know.
34:24You would be able to watch football.
34:26If you like all that kind of stuff.
34:28You know.
34:30There will be...
34:32Easier things.
34:34Because life was easier.
34:36Any life is pretty much easier.
34:38Than living in the Blitz.
34:40And like I said.
34:42That was just a normal average day.
34:45And then...
34:46You have to deal with...
34:48Bombs.
34:50Actual air raids.
34:52And then...
34:53You know.
34:54When things go wrong.
34:56You have to deal with...
34:58You know.
34:59Helping the injured.
35:01And sometimes staying up all night.
35:03You have to go on fire watch.
35:05You know.
35:06To put out fires.
35:07If things happen.
35:08You know.
35:10It's a very weird thing.
35:12Because obviously yesterday.
35:14I did my...
35:16Review of Doctor Who.
35:18The first one back in a little while.
35:20And that was an episode called...
35:21Let's Kill Hitler.
35:23So...
35:25We are in two...
35:27Kind of...
35:28Two days in a row.
35:30We are in that sort of era.
35:32But...
35:34That was totally different.
35:36Because A.
35:37There was actually Hitler there.
35:39So...
35:40To Hitler.
35:42You know.
35:43I think Phoebe would like to...
35:44Punch Hitler in the face and say...
35:45Shut up Hitler.
35:47I think she would like that.
35:49But...
35:50Yeah.
35:51It's two very contrasting things.
35:53That...
35:54You know.
35:55You really see the...
35:56The harsh realities.
35:57Here in...
35:58In Goodnight Sweetheart.
35:59And the really...
36:01Negative...
36:02Stuff.
36:04That...
36:05That is the thing.
36:07Well...
36:09This episode later on today.
36:10Is going to be very interesting.
36:12Will Gary...
36:14Go back into the present?
36:16Or is he going to stick it out?
36:18I don't know yet.
36:20But...
36:21I think he is already regretting his decision.
36:23I think it's safe to say.
36:25Right.
36:26That's going to do it for series 2 episode 5.
36:28Join me at 5 o'clock later on today.
36:30For series 2 episode 6.
36:33Thank you very much.
