00:00Hello everybody, welcome back to the channel, my name's Kevin, I'm a Geek, you're watching
00:15Kevin the Geek and welcome back to my double-headed full goodnight sweetheart, so I'm currently
00:21checking out series 2 episode 3, later on today it'll be series 2 episode 4, of course
00:25we're building up to the Christmas special which of course will be out in December and
00:31also I will probably do the first episode of series 3 on New Year's Eve because apparently
00:39it is literally set at New Year's Eve so that will fit in quite nicely, so doing it twice
00:43a month will get me through to November getting through to the end of series 2 and then of
00:47course we get into the Christmas month. So for this episode I'm really intrigued as to
00:54what's gonna happen because at the end of the last episode Gary has been arrested for drunk
01:02driving or drunken in possession of a car, I mean technically he didn't actually drive did he, he
01:09just you know went to put the key in in the ignition when he was clearly drunk with the
01:13copper there, the copper who is clearly related to Reg from the 40s but we don't know. So as
01:23always I like to give you a little fact around the day that this episode aired, you know for
01:28something back in the 40s, so the 20th of August in 1941 apparently it was the second mass roundup
01:38of Jews in Paris that began at the request of the Gestapo's Jewish Affairs Department and
01:47apparently over then the next five days a total of 4232 Jews were arrested by the Gestapo.
01:55Oh no not the nicest of things but that's what happened in the war it was a lot of very very
02:03bad stuff and you know a lot of countries worked very hard to stop the oppression of the Jews and
02:10the rise of the Nazis and things so yeah not the cheeriest of things that could have happened
02:19on this day in history but that's the war for you. Enough talking now let's check out Goodnight
02:25Sweetheart, don't forget you can check these videos out early by signing up to my Patreon
02:30which is now live you can go there, you don't have to of course it is entirely up to you I
02:35don't force anyone to do it it's something that if you would like to support the channel then you
02:39can do that. But let's check out this episode which is apparently called Just One More Chance.
02:45Here we go.
02:46Goodnight sweetheart, all my prayer for you. Goodnight sweetheart, I'll be watching of you.
03:02Tears of love may make us fall. Back with the dawn, a new day is dawn.
03:19Is that correct?
03:20Tighter, much tighter.
03:24Oh how horrible and yes extremely amusing.
03:27Who said I was joking?
03:29The suit okay?
03:30Yeah the suit's okay, it's what's inside that worries me.
03:33In one hour's time you will be in court on the charge of being drunk in charge of a vehicle.
03:37In approximately one and a half hours time you'll be convicted of being drunk
03:40in charge of a vehicle. You'll lose your license and you'll lose your job.
03:43Yeah he has no excuse.
03:45Oh really well give me one I mean just give me one single reason why that inexorable chain
03:49of events I've just predicted will not take place.
03:52Go on.
03:52Well?
03:54He might be ill.
03:56Sorry?
03:57The magistrates, he might be ill.
03:59Yeah perhaps they all went out for a meal together.
04:03Yeah perhaps one of them, perhaps his wife's just died and so to cheer him up
04:07all the other magistrates took the magistrate.
04:09The one whose wife has just died?
04:10That's him, that's him, nice bloke I expect.
04:12Anyway they all went out for a meal together and...
04:15And what?
04:17And they all got food poisoning and the court's going to be closed today
04:20and we won't have to go and everything's going to be all right again.
04:22But then you reschedule and it'll still happen.
04:24It was a joke, I was joking.
04:29Please god let it be true.
04:32Please I've said no comment.
04:34How is the condemned man? Facing up to his trip to the big house?
04:38Stop it Ron, I'm not in the mood.
04:39Can I do the one about the long walk to the chair?
04:43Um I won't mind it.
04:45I'm brave, well here I am.
04:48All for one and one for all.
04:51Did you think I would leave you lying when there's room on my horse for two?
04:58Two little boys, just about sums it up.
05:02Things a bit cool between you, yeah?
05:04Try permafrost, try ice age,
05:06try great big woolly mammoths wandering all over the living room.
05:09Well never fear, Ron is here.
05:12I'm showing solidarity, I'm going to come with you.
05:14Yeah thanks mate.
05:14Now the way I see it where most people go wrong is that they order something too fancy.
05:19Lobster, champagne, well it's too fussy isn't it?
05:21Besides think of the indigestion if the reprieve comes through at the last minute.
05:25Oh no you're not doing the last meal on death row.
05:28Not a long walk to the big chair.
05:30You forgot the priest knocking at the door.
05:32I think the knocking you can hear Ron is the sound of the death watch beetle in your skull
05:35hammering to get out.
05:37Let us not be despondent.
05:39What does your solicitor say?
05:40I haven't got a solicitor, I'm representing myself.
05:43Oh this is gonna go well.
05:44Could be good, could be good.
05:46What are you gonna say?
05:49Stuff.
05:50Stuff could be good, nothing wrong with stuff.
05:52You see Ron, as I see it, I think that's good.
05:56The pacing, good pacing, very authoritative.
05:59Yeah?
05:59You notice?
06:00I know good pacing when I see it.
06:02I did think about adding a limp.
06:04No, no, no, no, keep it simple, no you're right.
06:06Nah.
06:06Look, as I see it, I'm guilty, right?
06:09Yeah.
06:10I was caught in the van, drunk, trying to put the keys in the ignition.
06:13Yeah.
06:14So the only way...
06:15Pacing.
06:16Sorry.
06:17The only way I can get off of this is if I plead extenuating circumstances.
06:23Extenuating circumstances.
06:26Go on then.
06:26Sounds good.
06:27Well, this is where stuff comes in.
06:29Yeah.
06:30I thought I'd mentioned the time when I was little and my mum was ill,
06:34so I had to go and stay with my auntie Dot.
06:37Yeah?
06:38You know, just evoke a bit of sympathy because...
06:43What's that got to do with anything?
06:44He's going to throw the book at me, aren't we?
06:45Yes.
06:45I wouldn't say that.
06:46Yes, he's going to lose his license and he's going to lose his job, and that's that.
06:51Nonsense.
06:52He'll leave that court without a stain on his record.
06:55Once again, Gary Sparrow will be able to hold his head high.
06:59No longer an outcast from society.
07:0120 quid.
07:02I'll bet you 20 quid he loses his license.
07:04Yeah, we'll make it a fiver.
07:09Ain't got that much faith in him, have you, Ron?
07:15Did we get to see it?
07:41Knew it.
07:45Is he really that shocked?
07:55Is this a good idea, I ask myself?
07:58Shouldn't we remember the salutary lesson so recently dispensed
08:01when indulging a libation free from those properties
08:04that have brought about our downfall?
08:06You can indulge him what you like, Ron.
08:07Me, I'm going to get rattled.
08:09My life is an utter shambles and total botch.
08:17No, no, no.
08:18You've got it all wrong.
08:19You shouldn't be at the maudlin self-pitying stage yet.
08:22You've just started drinking.
08:24What happened to the manic high spirits?
08:26That's how it goes.
08:27You start off with that, then you get into the over-friendly,
08:30arm-around-the-neck, Rodney and her best man ever,
08:33let's take on the world scenario.
08:35Then you do your maudlin bit, then you throw up.
08:37Get it right.
08:39Hello?
08:46Oh, hi, Mr Jackson.
08:48Yeah, listen, I'm sorry I wasn't at work this morning.
08:51Oh, you heard?
08:53Yeah, what?
08:53It's just a little hiccup, you know.
08:58It's a hiccup?
08:58I've been with you for 10 years.
09:00It gets better.
09:01I was about to say, it's a hiccup with a great big accidental bit
09:04of sick in your mouth as well.
09:06Yeah, yeah, I fully appreciate that.
09:10Yes, I fully appreciate that.
09:14Look, I fully bloody appreciate it, all right?
09:19Well, if that's how you want to act, there's nothing more to say, is there?
09:22I mean, I am a grown man.
09:24I am not going to beg, but I will just say this.
09:27Please don't fire me, Mr Jackson.
09:31Yes, I understand that.
09:33I...
09:35Oh, get lost, you fat creep.
09:39What you need is a holiday...
09:39Wait to save your dignity.
09:41Oh, yeah, good idea, Ron.
09:42Yeah, I'll just phone the travel agents.
09:44New York, I think.
09:45Hmm, a suite at the Ritz-Carlton overlooking Central Park.
09:48Dinner at Sardi's, maybe catch the boxing in Madison Square Gardens.
09:52Sounds good.
09:52Some holidays, all you need is a pair of stockings.
09:56Don't get pervy.
09:58Some holidays, all you need is a pair of stockings
10:01as a gift to a certain person
10:03and a few kind words as to how the war is going.
10:07No, I can't go back there now.
10:09I've got a living to make.
10:11Think of it as rest and recuperation.
10:14Back there, you're a sun god, a colossus, a leader of men.
10:19Here, you're a nothing, a nobody.
10:22It's a little bit less than nothing.
10:23Sorry, is this supposed to be cheering me on?
10:28No, Von will expect me to start looking for work.
10:31Tell her you're going to work for me.
10:33Oh, Ron.
10:35Oh, now that is what I call a mate.
10:37Listen, I won't let you down.
10:38I said tell her, it's not a serious offer, Gary.
10:41But it'll get her off your back while you take stock.
10:44And suddenly a certain substance hits the fan.
10:48No, Von's not the sort of girl to bear a grudge.
10:51She'll be calm, she'll have everything in perspective.
10:53Everything will be fine.
10:54Do you know Yvonne?
10:55Is this a different Yvonne than I know?
11:00That's the Yvonne I know.
11:14Told you.
11:19You could be me.
11:21A year ago, I was unemployed.
11:23I now drive a BMW, live in a £250,000 home and have...
11:28And I'm the Queen Mother.
11:30Gary, it's lies.
11:30They're just reps advertising for other reps.
11:33There's nothing wrong with being a rep.
11:34I think I'd make quite a good rep.
11:35You'd have to travel all over the country.
11:37So?
11:38So what mode of transport did you have in mind?
11:40A skateboard?
11:42Any bathing, perhaps?
11:44Now, Von, I'm doing my best.
11:47I mean, for all we know, this could open up a whole new world of exciting possibilities for us.
11:51Such as?
11:53I need someone to collect the shopping trolleys from the car park at Tesco.
11:56Don't you think I doubted you?
11:59And while we're at it, what was all that stuff this morning about your anti-dot?
12:03I was pleading extenuating circumstances.
12:06Like what? Insanity?
12:09Things could be worse, you know.
12:11How could things be worse?
12:12Has one of us got a terminal illness I should know about?
12:16Honestly, Gary, I try to keep going. I really do.
12:19And I was thinking, maybe I've got it wrong.
12:24Maybe we shouldn't try to keep going.
12:27Might be for the best.
12:30Is that what you want?
12:32Do you?
12:32I said it first.
12:35Neither of us has actually said it at all yet.
12:37Gary, do you want us to split up?
12:39Well, I don't.
12:40You make it sound so final.
12:42Well, it has to be said, you can't hide your head in the sand forever.
12:45I like it down there.
12:48Perhaps we should go to Relate and get some counselling.
12:50Oh, whoa, whoa.
12:52No way.
12:54No way am I going to tell a stranger about our intimate personal doodars.
12:58We haven't got any intimate personal doodars.
13:00We haven't had any intimate personal doodars for the past month,
13:03which is part of the problem.
13:05We need to talk about it with someone.
13:07Yvonne, I'm tired, OK?
13:09We'll talk about it in the morning.
13:11And we will, won't we, Gary?
13:13You have to face up to things sometimes.
13:15You can't run away forever.
13:16I'm not running away.
13:19Besides...
13:20What?
13:21Where have I got to run to?
13:231940s.
13:26Gary?
13:28Where are you?
13:35Gary!
13:40I mean, it's a way that he can sort of escape his troubles.
13:49It'd be a pretty bad episode if, goodness, we didn't travel back in time.
13:57Morning, all.
14:05It's that man again.
14:09There's been a robbery?
14:10Or an air raid, I should know about.
14:13Hello?
14:15Oh, hello, Reg.
14:16Was that you banging on the counter?
14:17Yeah, I was just...
14:18Well, you don't bang.
14:19You ring the bell.
14:20You only bang when the bell's not working or someone's nicked it.
14:22Are we a happy little pixie now, Reg?
14:29Social niceties have been observed.
14:31Right, what can I do you for?
14:33Oh, pint of bitter.
14:35Half a bitter.
14:37A shandy.
14:38A tiny little shandy.
14:40Is this some sort of quiz?
14:42The Lawson family were in last night.
14:44Their Sydney was shot down over the channel.
14:46They'd just heard it'd been picked up safe and sound.
14:48Drank the place dry, they did.
14:50Ah!
14:50Walk.
14:51Tell a lie.
14:52I did keep something back.
14:54Half a bottle of cherry brandy.
14:56Oh!
14:57I may have to pass.
14:58Well, suit yourself.
14:59I've just been on the blowout at the brewery.
15:00Should be stocked up again by Friday.
15:02Friday?
15:03I can't wait that long.
15:04I've got to be back by dinner time.
15:05Back where?
15:06Back in the...
15:10Be like Dad, keep Mum.
15:12Yeah, be like Dad, keep Mum.
15:14It's rather sexist, that, isn't it?
15:16I wonder what Germaine Greer would make of that one.
15:19Who's she when she's at home?
15:21A girl down our street.
15:24I've never really thought about that, that, that phrase before.
15:27You know, keep, you know, keep, keep like Mum.
15:32I guess, I guess that, that is quite sexist.
15:35If you think about what is sort of the connotations, you know,
15:39at that sort of time period,
15:41it's like saying that the women have to be silent.
15:44Like just, just in general, they have to be quiet.
15:47You know, it's, you know, when the, when the man's around,
15:50the man is the man and you, you only speak when he allows you to speak.
15:56Ooh, yeah.
15:58That, that's, that's a phrase I've never thought that much about,
16:01but now you think about it, it's not a very nice one, is it?
16:05Bit pushy, mind you.
16:06Oh, I know the type.
16:08Since these women have been working in the factories and driving the buses,
16:10they think they're running a shop.
16:12Where's it gonna end, eh?
16:13Yeah, probably start burning their bras next.
16:18How about that one?
16:25Great holiday run, good idea.
16:30Hi, Phoebe.
16:31Take a look at that.
16:33Four hours I've just spent queuing up for that.
16:35Look at it, I wouldn't give it to the cat.
16:37Ooh, I think I'd sooner have the cat.
16:39You'll never guess what he tried to make me have first.
16:41Lamb's tails.
16:42I told him, I said, you're not palming me off with lamb's tails.
16:45There's no ruddy meat on them.
16:48What are you doing here, then?
16:49Not having a drink.
16:50It's been that kind of a week all round, hasn't it, Rich?
16:54Come on, sit down.
16:59Can you have a cup of tea?
17:05Go away, Rich.
17:06Well, come on, we need cheering up.
17:09You need cheering up.
17:10You're our link with what's happening in the world, Gary.
17:12We rely on you for information.
17:14Yeah, you've been in the know with all your contacts and all.
17:18Tell us are things as bad as they seem?
17:19No, of course not.
17:21For instance, the evacuation of Crete
17:23just means we can reinforce our boys in North Africa.
17:26Crete's fallen?
17:27You didn't know?
17:27That's Greece gone and all.
17:29We're going to lose, aren't we?
17:30No, then go.
17:31None of that.
17:32Let's defeat this talk, that is.
17:34What will Winnie say?
17:35Of course we're not going to lose, Phoebe.
17:37What?
17:38You got a crystal ball over you?
17:39Sort of.
17:40Yeah, sort of.
17:41So what's going to happen to me, then?
17:43In five seconds' time, I'm going to see a great big smile on that little face.
17:47Says you.
17:53Hello, Gary.
17:55There we go.
17:56You should know.
17:58Stockings.
18:00I'm down to my last pair.
18:05What?
18:06What is it?
18:12What?
18:13Am I missing a joke?
18:15They're the latest things in America.
18:17Don't look very practical.
18:18Well, what happens if you get a ladder on one of the legs?
18:21You can't swap it for another one, can you?
18:22You can't mix and match.
18:24It's wasteful, I'll call it.
18:25Well, I'll have it if you don't want it.
18:27I can always store my onions in it.
18:31They're not in it.
18:31They're a thimb.
18:33No, no, no.
18:34I'll keep them.
18:35Seconds can't be choosers, eh?
18:38So, so, was that a thing?
18:39You know, like, a pair of tights that weren't joined in the war era?
18:46Is that, is that the joke?
18:48Is that what I'm supposed to be?
18:49It was technically, you know, one per leg.
18:52It wasn't like a joined thing.
18:54Almost like a pair of leggings or a pair of trousers.
18:57Is that, is that, is that what it is?
18:59Is that the joke that I'm just not getting?
19:01Well, I'm glad I cheered you both up.
19:03Oh, you have, son.
19:04You really have.
19:05Well, good.
19:06Well, it might just interest you to know that I was the one who needed cheering up.
19:09That's why I came in here.
19:11You? What do you need cheering up?
19:13Things just got on top of me, that's all.
19:15Oh, did they now?
19:16So you came here to be cheered up?
19:19Well, I'm sorry if we've disappointed you, Gary.
19:21Only, what with my dad dying and me having to scrimp and save
19:25and having to run this pub on my own,
19:27knowing that any minute Gearing's mob could blow us to smithereens.
19:31Well, with all that going on, I know, I know I sound like a bit of a moaner,
19:35but just right now I can't find it in my heart of hearts to bloody well cheer you up.
19:40Phoebe, I'm sorry.
19:43She's got a point there, mate.
19:46Are you not hungry?
19:57Mine, you're all mine.
20:01How did I manage to simultaneously screw up two lives 53 years apart?
20:05Because you're a twat.
20:08I could have committed suicide if I didn't think I'd have to do it twice.
20:10Whoa, whoa.
20:12Now, come on, champ.
20:14You've had a few bad rounds.
20:16There's no need to throw the towel in.
20:18I've got nowhere left to go, Ron.
20:20You've still got Yvonne.
20:22After walking out this morning, she'll tear me limb from limb.
20:25No, not Yvonne.
20:27Well, yeah, Yvonne.
20:30I had to eat worm's tails during the war.
20:33I'm really up against it, the poor sods.
20:36The shortages, the bad news every day.
20:39Never knowing whether you'd wake up in the morning.
20:41And there you are, certain of victory,
20:44able to console Phoebe in her hour of need.
20:47Yeah, and I didn't.
20:48I was too busy trying to talk about myself.
20:51Now I'm selfish.
20:53Yep.
20:54But from now on, you're going to see a new Gary Sparrow.
20:57Are we?
20:57From now on, I'm going to be strong-minded, resolute and decisive.
21:01So who's it going to be, Yvonne or Phoebe?
21:03I'm not sure.
21:06Way to be decisive.
21:14Come through.
21:29Gary, this is Jenny.
21:31Hi.
21:32Jenny and I were at college together.
21:33She just popped in for a chat.
21:35Listen, I'm sorry about running off this morning.
21:37Do you want a beer, Gary?
21:39Uh, no.
21:39No, thanks.
21:40I'm trying to cut down.
21:41Well, that's good.
21:42You don't want to use it as a crutch.
21:45No.
21:49So, you've been talking about old times, haven't you?
21:51Well, we haven't had time.
21:52Jenny's just got here.
21:53I was just saying to Yvonne, you've got a nice place here.
21:56Have you lived here long?
21:57Yeah, since we were married.
21:59And you're happy?
22:00Well, define happy.
22:03Things have been a bit difficult just recently, you know.
22:05I've just lost my job, so there's added pressure there.
22:10No, there are problems.
22:11I may be stupid not to admit it, you know.
22:14Oh, she's therapist.
22:16I suppose.
22:17I have this problem, you know, a tendency to run away from things.
22:21I find I can't face up to various...
22:26Go on.
22:34They're going to have some intimate doodle.
22:35What is going on with Yvonne out there?
22:39She's one of those, isn't she?
22:40One of those fiends.
22:42She's not one of the undead, Gary.
22:43She's a social worker.
22:45There's a difference?
22:46Jenny's done counselling.
22:47She can help us.
22:48She's not here in a professional capacity.
22:50Moonlighting.
22:50Is she cash in hand, is it?
22:51Well, she just wants to help.
22:53We need somebody to arbitrate.
22:55I am not talking to her, all right?
22:58You were just talking to her.
22:59You were talking really well.
23:01I was ambushed.
23:02Yes, of course you've been ambushed.
23:03Otherwise, you'd never have agreed to go through with it.
23:05That's true.
23:06This is our last chance, Gary.
23:08Either we do this or...
23:12Hey.
23:15Hey, come on.
23:17Champ.
23:20We don't have to throw the towel in yet, do we?
23:22Don't we?
23:31Hiya.
23:32Everything all right?
23:33Everything's fine, isn't it, Gary?
23:35Yep, fine.
23:36Yes, really.
23:37I've told Gary about why you're only here.
23:39And how does Gary feel about that?
23:41Gary?
23:43All right, I suppose.
23:45And you feel a chat might be of benefit to you both.
23:49You tell me.
23:50No, you tell me, Gary.
23:54I might, I suppose.
23:55Well, that's good.
23:56At last, you're admitting that something's wrong.
23:58Lots of couples have their ups and downs, and we both know that.
24:01And both of us, together, feel ultimately that...
24:05Ultimately, together, we both...
24:08Gary, I need some help here.
24:09I can't do this by myself.
24:11Yvonne, maybe if I just talk to you, and Gary can chip in if he feels like it.
24:17Now, Gary's recently lost his job.
24:20That's right.
24:21And you consider him a failure.
24:22No, he considers himself a failure.
24:24You don't consider him a failure.
24:27Well, yes.
24:30But not as much as he considers himself a failure.
24:32Well, excuse me.
24:33You wanted to say something, Gary?
24:36No.
24:38Won't you just sit here like a well-behaved ritual sacrifice?
24:42Gary, I'm only trying to get at the truth.
24:44I'm right, aren't I, Jenny?
24:45You see? Jenny thinks I'm right.
24:46I don't care.
24:49Maybe if I talk to Yvonne, and I can get round to you later.
24:52Mm, can hardly wait.
24:54Fingers crossed for that one, Jenny.
24:57Yvonne, this is difficult.
24:59I mean, we've known each other for a long time.
25:01Would you think it unethical, out of bounds,
25:04if I were to mention some of the things we were privy to?
25:07When we met at college?
25:08No, of course not.
25:10As long as we get to the truth.
25:11I mean, that's what matters, isn't it?
25:12Of course.
25:14Trevor Harrison.
25:15I'm not talking about Trevor Harrison.
25:16No!
25:17I'm just trying to follow a train of thought.
25:19I just thought, perhaps, and this is just a theory, Yvonne,
25:23I wonder if you might have a tendency to pick the wrong man for you.
25:26For your particular needs.
25:28I am not talking about Trevor Harrison.
25:30I want to know about Trevor Harrison.
25:31You trouble me, Yvonne.
25:34If all we're trying to do is get to the truth...
25:37I mean, that's why we're all here.
25:39Trevor Harrison.
25:41Well, we all make mistakes, don't we?
25:43First day at college, we all latch onto somebody.
25:46It's just that sometimes, sometimes people draw the short straw.
25:51And what sort of bloke was old Trev, then?
25:55Was he, and I'm just trying to get to the truth here, Yvonne,
25:58but was Trevor a particularly dynamic sort of person?
26:03Well, I'm not talking trainspotter here,
26:05but it was a pretty close call.
26:07He had a nice smile.
26:09He used to wear these shoes.
26:10Oh, no, not sensible shoes.
26:12He wasn't one of those.
26:13God, was he ever.
26:14Okay, okay, what about you?
26:16I don't think I'm the issue at stake here, Yvonne.
26:18You're just bitter because Tony Price didn't want to marry you.
26:21What did you say?
26:22You heard.
26:23That's a lie.
26:24It's a filthy lie.
26:25Well, the truth always hurts.
26:26He would have married me.
26:27It was his mother.
26:27She came between us.
26:28You've always been the same.
26:29One date with a bloke, any bloke,
26:31and you thought you were walking down the aisle.
26:33Well, tell me again.
26:34How many wedding dresses have you had made?
26:37Only three.
26:39Wow, that took a turn.
26:41Oh, that was a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
26:43Yeah.
26:44Very adult, very grown up.
26:46And that is why you do not get someone that you are
26:51close and personal with to be your therapist.
26:54You need a completely separate third party.
26:56Particularly like the moment where you threw the flower pot
26:58at our hastily retreating...
27:01I'm only sorry I missed.
27:03You missed her.
27:04Shame about next door's car.
27:09Well, at least we talked.
27:10We argued.
27:12That's the way our talking tends to turn out these days, isn't it?
27:15Yeah.
27:16We could argue for England.
27:18We could win the World Cup.
27:21So it's not the final whistle?
27:24Let's play extra time, eh?
27:29What if it goes to penalties?
27:31Oh, I think I'd rather settle for a draw.
27:34How about a pre-season friendly?
27:36Mmm.
27:38Oh, some into the doodahs?
27:40Mm-mm.
27:40Oh, wait, wait a minute.
27:42What happens in nine months' time, eh?
27:45I mean, we're not exactly well placed at the moment, are we?
27:48Probably won't happen.
27:50Probably be all right tonight.
27:53You're the first person in the history of the world who's ever said that.
27:59Right.
28:04Sex machine.
28:09Three and a half times.
28:10I think that's a new record.
28:13A heart?
28:15What's a heart?
28:15All right, twice.
28:19Pretty good last night, wasn't I?
28:21Eh, uh, wait.
28:23Best sex I've had since Monday.
28:25I wasn't here on Monday.
28:26I've got to pay the bills, Gary.
28:27Now you're out of work.
28:29Marriage is a very complicated machine.
28:31When it breaks down, you can't fix it with one screw.
28:34Ooh!
28:37Two?
28:39She's got a point.
28:43Let's see if I can find some good news for Phoebe.
28:51June 22nd.
28:53June 22nd.
28:55June 22nd.
29:00Oh, dear.
29:02Oh, bad move, Adolf.
29:04Bad move.
29:05Nah!
29:09I think we've barely been in the quarters in this one.
29:11Bloody hell!
29:14Sorry, Dad.
29:18My last pair.
29:21Look at it.
29:22It's more dull than stocking.
29:29Pull yourself together, you silly cow.
29:34Hi, Phoebe.
29:36Oh, hello, Gary.
29:39You're not angry?
29:40I mean, yesterday.
29:43No, no, no.
29:44I'm not angry with you, Gary.
29:45We all get a bit out of sorts.
29:47Only natural, with the war and everything.
29:50Gets us all down, doesn't it?
29:52Yeah.
29:53Oh, well.
29:55Back to the gravy browning, eh?
29:57What?
29:58Gravy browning.
29:59To paint my legs with.
30:01Mind you, I don't like it.
30:03Last time I did it, half the dogs around here followed me home.
30:07Still, you've got to keep carrying on, haven't you?
30:11You can't...
30:14You can't let things get you down.
30:16Come here.
30:19Come on, champ.
30:24Phoebe, please stop it.
30:25You'll have me going in a minute.
30:26You...
30:28No, no.
30:29You're strong.
30:30You are.
30:31No, you're wrong.
30:33You're the strong one.
30:34Me?
30:36What do I do?
30:37You keep on.
30:39That's what you all do.
30:42No matter what they chuck at you, you just keep carrying on.
30:50Look at that, eh?
30:54Course, in America, girls don't need to draw a scene down the back with an eyebrow pencil.
30:59You know, make him look like stockings.
31:03I mean, what sort of a man's going to fancy a woman who looks like that, eh?
31:09Well, it takes all sorts.
31:12Gary, do you think we hold our own?
31:14I beg your pardon?
31:15I mean, is it going to get any better?
31:19Of course it is.
31:22Hitler has just made the biggest mistake of his life.
31:25He's bitten off more than he can chew.
31:26He has really got a tiger by the tail.
31:28What's he done, then?
31:30Hitler's invaded Russia.
31:31Ah!
31:32I was going to say that.
31:34Well, sorry, I'm sure.
31:36Well, so what?
31:37The Germans have invaded Russia.
31:38They're not on our side.
31:40But he'll be fighting on two fronts now.
31:43And the Winters can be murdering Russia.
31:45What?
31:46You've been there and all, have you?
31:47No.
31:48But it'll do to Hitler what it did to Napoleon.
31:52Don't you see?
31:53It makes it virtually certain that we're going to win.
31:57It's going to take time, but we're going to make it, Phoebe.
32:01What about you and me, Gary?
32:04Are we going to make it?
32:06After all, we're not fighting on two fronts, are we?
32:11Sorry to interrupt.
32:12Yvonne's here.
32:13What?
32:16Hello, Andre.
32:19Oh, bloody hell!
32:28Jesus!
32:29I'm wondering what the hell was going on there for a second.
32:31I thought Yvonne had actually managed to make her way back through into the past.
32:37Ooh!
32:43Oh, my word!
32:59Erm...
33:03Interesting, that.
33:05Erm, are we fighting on two fronts?
33:09Gary definitely is.
33:11He is really, I think, getting to the point where he's really struggling to
33:23really identify what he wants and, more importantly, who he wants.
33:28Erm...
33:30I mean, one thing, marginally off-topic with that, just while I remember it.
33:35I always wonder how this show, you know, in-universe kind of operates,
33:42because it's kind of been established, obviously,
33:44however long that Gary spends in the past is equal to the amount of time
33:48that time passes back in the 90s.
33:53I was thinking the other day about the time as well, as in, like, the date and things.
33:58Does that travel at the same point?
34:01Because, obviously, he's going on June whatever it was.
34:06Is it like the day that it is in the 40s correlates exactly to the date in the 90s as well?
34:13Or is it just that he's managed to work out what date it is there,
34:18and so he always then kind of knows what it is,
34:21even if it's different, you know, between the two worlds.
34:25There's my question of the day.
34:26Answer it if you know the answer to that one.
34:29Um, but I've been thinking a lot about where the show is going to be potentially going,
34:37and we are really at that point of really, like, trying to go down to,
34:44you know, that sort of, that bite on both fronts.
34:49There's been a lot of talk, hasn't there, about Gary and Yvonne getting pregnant.
34:54What would make an interesting storyline is if Gary gets Phoebe pregnant.
35:03Because that would ultimately mean that back in the 90s,
35:09he could, in theory, be walking on the street one day,
35:14and in comes his son or his daughter, who would be,
35:20well, they'd be in their 50s,
35:21would be, well, they'd be in their 50s at that point,
35:25so actually they'd be older than Gary would.
35:29Would Phoebe potentially have a picture of him?
35:31Would, you know, this child recognise Gary?
35:35That is an interesting possibility for a storyline.
35:39I don't know whether it would go down that route,
35:41but it's definitely one that is a potential, you know, because,
35:47yeah, I mean, time travel, it throws up all kinds of possibilities, doesn't it?
35:51Um, but yeah, the ropes are definitely on for Gary and Yvonne,
35:57and I'm still wondering whether they will survive to the end of the series,
36:03because there's a lot riding on this,
36:07and I don't know whether they will or won't, but we'll find out.
36:11And so that's going to do it for this reaction, which is Series 2, Episode 3.
36:15Later on today is going to be Series 2, Episode 4.
