00:36My computer's delayed, but that's okay.
00:38Thank you so much, everybody, for joining us tonight, 9 p.m., off day, Wednesday, but

01:06We're going to get into the compensation.
01:07We're going to get into what the roster looks like now.
01:10We're going to get into who might fill the void, what they might do with the cap space
01:13they now have.
01:14All of it, other teams, et cetera.

01:35Paid the bills.
01:36We're going to pay them a little later, but first, let's get into it.
01:38Matthew Judon traded to the Atlanta Falcons for a 2025 third-round pick.
01:44That trade first reported by Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz.
01:47The compensation first reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter.
01:52I'll give you my instant reaction really quick, and then I'll lay it over to you, Taylor,
01:56to kind of go through yours.
01:58Immediate thought before the compensation came through was, let's see what the compensation
02:03is, but I like them getting the monkey off the back with Judon.
02:07My whole thing, I'll lead it off here.
02:09I've said it on the show.
02:10I've said it on the radio.
02:11I've written about it.
02:12I've talked about it.
02:13It's a 2025 team and beyond.
02:15We saw that even more during Tuesday's practice.
02:17The Patriots don't have it this year.
02:20They don't have the juice this year.
02:22They're in a new rebuild.
02:23They're in the second chapter of a rebuild since Tom Brady left.
02:26They need some time.
02:28This year wasn't going to happen.
02:29Matthew Judon, if he's not in your plans for beyond this season, get rid of him.
02:34Get what you can for him, and the Patriots did that.
02:36Third-round pick comes in.
02:37Okay, now we're talking.
02:38That's a top 100 pick next year.
02:40You can use that building block, that chip to move forward and really rebuild this thing.
02:45That's just surface level, my thoughts.
02:47I think most people agree with that, but I'll hand it over to you to dive a little deeper
02:51what you think of the deal and what you think of Judon ultimately not being with the Patriots
02:54anymore.
02:55100%.
02:56I do want to say with the last practice, it's so early.
03:00We definitely need to make sure that we are aware that things are bad, but things could
03:05change.
03:06In regards to Judon, I'd say this is a best case scenario.
03:09I think we've discussed this several times because this whole saga has been quite adventurous,
03:16but we thought they were going to get a fourth-round pick as a best-case scenario, and I agree.
03:21Now, essentially losing Christian Barmore with blood clots, that obviously compounds
03:26the loss of Matthew Judon because now you're losing your two best pass rushers.
03:30I'd argue that Barmore really is the best player on the entire team.
03:35Matthew Judon is still one of the most productive pass rushers in the NFL.
03:39If you do lose that with him, it's okay.
03:41You all good?
03:42You all good?
03:43I'm fine.
03:44My second screen is turning on and off, so I keep losing my light, but I'm here and I'm
03:47good and I can hear you.
03:48Perfect time to bring up the tweets.
03:50Here we go.
03:51Looking at the position now for the Patriots because long-term, it works out for them.
03:56This is a team that now gets another pick in the top 100.
03:58They currently have four, and if you want to be this team that's going to be drafting
04:02and developing, more picks inside the top 100 is obviously ideal.
04:07Matthew Judon, I think the best case scenario, if he were to stay, would have been probably
04:11a one-year deal, maybe a two-year deal with the second year, given the option to maybe
04:15be released so we can test free agency.
04:18I thought maybe with the loss, potential loss of Christian Barmore, we might see Matthew
04:23Judon and the Patriots reach some kind of handshake agreement, but now they get some
04:27more ammo for the future.
04:29Matthew Judon gets a payday and he's going to get a shot at potentially getting into
04:33the playoffs and making a run because the Falcons are pretty loaded.
04:36Also, Braylon Shrice, their third-round pick, landed on injured reserve earlier this week,
04:41so I think that's what gave the Patriots and Elliott Wolfe a lot of leverage in actually
04:45making this happen.
04:46Looking at the position, Anthony Jennings, I think his role was already pretty solidified.
04:51You already re-signed him to a long-term deal.
04:54He was an elite run stopper for you last season.
04:56Not going to give you a ton in terms of pass rush.
04:58I think at this point in his career, you're not really going to expect that.
05:01I think best case scenario was maybe he learns to be more effective on loops like we saw
05:05with Judon, maybe that inside rush that Judon also used pretty effectively.
05:10If he can just maybe develop that a little bit more, give you something as opposed to
05:15more pocket compression, then maybe a little more diversity on those early downs.
05:20But still, not a guy that's going to give you a lot of juice in the pass rush department.
05:24That should be Joshua Uche on these third downs and passing situations.
05:28But in terms of availability and play, he's just been so inconsistent since having that
05:33kind of breakout year in 2022.
05:35But he is on a proven deal.
05:36He has said that he feels like he's a better fit into Marcus Covington's scheme.
05:40Hopefully that works out and health and all that kind of stuff willing, he'll be able
05:44to play more like he did in 2022 than he did in 2023.
05:48Oshane Jimenez, a guy that I had on my roster projection going all the way back to the end
05:53of spring practices, I thought that the versatility and the well-rounded skillset that he could
05:58provide would be a huge asset for the Patriots with the whole Judon contract situation.
06:03Being up in the air and really with just so many unproven guys in that front.
06:08So I think he's a guy who's going to be maybe a top backup at that outside linebacker position.
06:13But obviously one of the guys at the top of the list, who I haven't mentioned yet, Keon
06:16White.
06:17Now, I think he's someone who traditionally would line up opposite of Matthew Judon or
06:21an Anfernee Jennings or a Joshua Uche.
06:24Those pure outside linebackers, typically the Patriots will have those guys on one side
06:28with Keon White or Dietrich Wise and I think Oshane Jimenez too.
06:32Those guys who could put their hand down or stand up.
06:35But in terms of on-field production, you're really hoping that Keon White is the guy who
06:39takes the big step up because he's going to be on the field ideally almost every down.
06:44He's going to spend a lot of pass situations inside.
06:47We actually did see, if you want to scroll to a clip where I talked about the film, Keon
06:53White only played three snaps.
06:54But again, as someone who's a projected starter, it gave you a little glimpse into what kind
06:58of fronts we could be seeing.
07:00So all three of the plays that Keon White was on the field for against the Panthers
07:05were four-man fronts.
07:06Christian Barmore earlier, I think it was in the spring, mentioned that they're probably
07:10going to use more of those this season.
07:12You want Keon White?
07:13I'm sorry, Keon against Denver here?
07:15Oh yeah, we could, honestly.
07:18These are fun clips.
07:20But yeah, in terms of on-field production, Keon White is the guy who you're hoping to
07:24give you the pass rush, the run defense, and just be a kind of guy who can take on more
07:29of the load that you're losing from Matthew Judon.
07:31But at the end of the day, he is still a huge loss for this defense.
07:35It kind of brings you more to a 2023 mindset, because obviously they didn't have Barmore.
07:41I'm sorry, they didn't have Judon.
07:43You did have Barmore.
07:44You might lose him as well.
07:45But you do have Christian Gonzalez back.
07:47You have Daniel Laquale back, who's a really key interior pass rusher for them.
07:51Zeminez is more of like a Mack Wilson replacement, but I think he can also be used more on those
07:56early down situations more than you saw from Wilson, who was really more of like a pass
08:00rusher towards the end.
08:02And then, you know, you really hope that the coverage can stand up, like Jalen Hawkins,
08:07good addition on the back end.
08:09But this is a pretty tough loss.
08:11Instead of like a top five-ish defense, I'm thinking this kind of knocks them down to
08:15like top 10, top 12.
08:16Yeah, I saw your tweet with Coleman about, yeah, yeah.
08:21Yeah, because a front with Matthew Judon and Christian Barmore, like that's pretty nuts.
08:26That gives you a lot of juice.
08:27But now, if you don't have both of those guys, then you're going to need a ton of other people
08:32to step up in different ways.
08:34A little bit for Manfredi Jennings, maybe.
08:36But again, hoping that Joshua Ucce and Keon White can both have career years.
08:40Let's, uh, all right, what do you, so deal, I guess, let's talk about O'Shea Zeminez.
08:48I'm curious on your thoughts on him.
08:50And like, I guess looking at the position overall with some clips of Zeminez on the
08:55screen as well, like this is a guy who kind of was almost an afterthought.
09:01He was signed a little bit later on.
09:02He played under Drew Wilkins with the Giants, obviously.
09:06And is he only on a one-year deal?
09:07Do I have that correct?
09:08Do you know off the top of your head?
09:09Matthew Judon?
09:10Or is O'Shea?
09:11No, Zeminez.
09:12Think it's a one-year deal?
09:13Let me double check.
09:14Okay.
09:15So like, when you look at a guy like this and you look at the Patriots kind of, you
09:18know, blending in my, my take, and it's not really a take.
09:22It's really where this team is right now, where this isn't, I don't know how competitive
09:27granted they're going to be in 2024, but they want to kind of build towards the future.
09:30Is Zeminez a stopgap guy, or is this a guy who you could see really shining out here
09:34and maybe signing an extension potentially and staying on and it's sort of being a, a
09:39real like, I guess my question is where do they go from here specifically with Zeminez
09:45not only this year, but to see someone who you think, and, you know, kind of be here
09:48in the future.
09:49I could see him being like a key role player for them.
09:52Like maybe he balls out in his rotational role and they're like, Hey, we really like
09:56you in this role.
09:57You know, maybe test the markets, even get a bigger deal elsewhere.
10:00If you can't be a starter elsewhere, we'd love to have you here.
10:03And as we've seen, they usually give out pretty fair deals, but they do have their cutoff
10:06for those role player types.
10:08I don't think he's the long-term answer, like the long-term replacement for Judong.
10:12I think, you know, he is, I think a more talented player than he was able to show last year.
10:16He played more in 2022, but I think really you want to turn to the draft and now you
10:20have four top 100 picks.
10:22You can address wide receiver.
10:23You can address offensive tackle.
10:25You can address cornerback, which I think is going to be a sneaky need for them next
10:28season because of Jonathan Jones and obviously Marcus Jones is a guy whose health is always
10:32in question.
10:34And you can obviously add to the defensive front, whether that's a defensive tackle,
10:38get pass rush inside, whether that is the pure Matt Judon replacement.
10:41I think that's kind of going to be the idea there.
10:44But you also hope that Keon White again can maybe step up and if he balls out, then maybe
10:49you just have him as the premier guy in that front, even if it's not specifically in that
10:53Judon role.
10:56I will add to the context of the situation before we take a quick break for, to our friends
11:01over at Game Time.
11:02I will just add a report from Jeremy Fowler who mentioned that the Bears as well as the
11:09Texans were also interested in trading for Matthew Judon.
11:12So that Elliot Wolfe Patriots front office is of the mindset of doing nobody any favors
11:17and that the third round pick from Atlanta is the best price they got.
11:23I heard at the end, excuse me, of Patriots beat with Brian and Alex saying that hypothetically
11:29speaking because, you know, Houston's the best team out of the three that was looking
11:34to trade for Judon.
11:35I think everyone can agree with that.
11:36Would you rather have made the trade with the Bears or hypothetically speaking, if Chicago
11:42also offered a third, would you rather have taken the Bears third or Atlanta's third?
11:46Like, do you think the Bears could be better than Atlanta?
11:48Do you think Atlanta is going to be better than the Bears?
11:51I think that, oh, I think the Falcons will be better than the Bears because I think they
11:54have more veterans they're relying on.
11:56Whereas the Bears, obviously Caleb Williams, Roma Dunes, I think is going to be a great
11:59player, but you don't know for sure.
12:01Also apparently Keenan Allen is 30, 230 pounds.
12:04Yeah, I saw that.
12:05That's insane.
12:06How cool is that?
12:07I don't know what's going on there.
12:08Yeah, but I think that maybe the Bears would have been better if it was the same pick.
12:14But also I think you want to do right by the player and Judon going to a place like Atlanta
12:19one pop in town.
12:20Chicago is as well.
12:21Honestly, you couldn't go wrong with either place, but you're going to a team that's prop
12:25has a better shot at legitimately contending than the Bears, obviously, who are going through
12:29their further along in their rebuild in the Patriots, but they're going through rebuild
12:32with their own as well.
12:33Yeah, for sure.
12:34But again, all right.
12:35Just a quick recap.
12:36Patriots trading Matthew Judon for a third round pick to the Atlanta Falcons, according
12:41to Jeremy Fowler.
12:42The Bears and the Houston Texans also were interested, but the Patriots ultimately make
12:46the deal with Atlanta.
12:47We're going to get into the rest of it.
12:48We're going to get into the cap situation.
12:50Our friend Miguel Benzon from Pats cap outlined everything we'll talk about again.
12:53Still what could go, what they can do in the future here, what they should do with the
12:57gap space, all of that.
12:59But before we do quick word from our friends over at game time, we'll be right back.
13:02It's the dog days of summer here in Boston, which means it's time to get to some games

14:29Go check them out.
14:30Use code CLNS for $20 off your first purchase.
14:33All right.
14:34Let's talk about the cap situation.
14:36If I can have you actually pull up my screen, uh, on your end only, only, nope, that's fine.
14:43We need to bear with each other here because as Ahmed, our producer texted us, I am basically
14:47working with a little tykes laptop here on my end.
14:51Apologies.
14:52Uh, things a little bit old.
14:53That's why my screen's going on and off.
14:54And that's why, uh, that's why I basically need Taylor to have produced this show alongside
14:58me.
14:59So, uh, if we, uh, we look at where the Patriots are cap wise, because I think that's, um,
15:06that's sort of the big indicator here and I'm moving forward because you know, they
15:09got the deal done.
15:10I think everyone agrees.
15:11Um, oh, I need, you got me.
15:14Oh, you have it.
15:15I'm sorry.
15:16I stopped sharing my screen.
15:17Uh, see, I'm losing it.
15:18It's late, but here we are.
15:19And Taylor has dark mode on.
15:21It's better for, it's better on the eyes.
15:22I got you people.
15:24Mike is a psychopath and likes the light screen that burns your retinas.
15:28You stay, you gotta stay awake, baby.
15:30Gotta stay awake during these late nights.
15:31Uh, but here's the cap situation with Matthew Jude on.
15:33And as I was saying, I think this is where eyes turn now because everyone can pretty
15:39much agree.
15:40The Patriots got good compensation back for Jude on the third round pick is better, frankly,
15:44than a lot of us thought.
15:45You mentioned it earlier.
15:46Fourth round pick was sort of on the radar.
15:48That was just the guest, but they get a third back.
15:50It's top 100.
15:51Everybody's happy.
15:52Atlanta gets an ideal pass.
15:53So here's the, here's the, uh, Patriots now off the hook for Jude on 2024 salary of 6.5.
16:02Um, and I'm just trying to kind of read this through, but basically again, they're off,
16:07they're off the hook for a six and a half million dollars salary this year.
16:09So they end up with more money with, you know, the high cap space that they already have.
16:14Is this something where I was just on 98, five, the sports hub with Joe Murray and again,
16:20making sports talk radio in Boston for a grain of salt and what they do.
16:23And, you know, Joe also being a, a fan as well as the night show host there, he's yelling
16:29and screaming that, well, now what are they going to do with the money?
16:32And you know, what are they going to do with the money and crafts being cheap and they
16:35got to spend the money.
16:36And, and I kind of pushed back and said, let's give this all a chance to play out because
16:41it's so early in the rebuild, but you have to look at the money situation.
16:46So like, are you of the mindset that they now need to flip this into what the chat has
16:50been saying and go getting an emergency situation, like an emergency fix, a tackle and Charles
16:55Leno or call David Bakhtiari and throw a bag of cash on him, or is this still kind of hurry
16:59up and wait and let's see what happens here.
17:01I don't think you just ever want to spend money recklessly.
17:04I don't think that's smart.
17:05Also I think we need to remember that this is not an attractive team to a lot of veterans.
17:11Like the Patriots have been saying that they were picky and who they wanted to bring on
17:14board because I think they understand the importance of bringing in people who are
17:17going to buy into what you're selling as a rebuilding team.
17:21And on top of that, some of these older guys who are still on the market, they're still
17:24here for a reason.
17:25Like a lot of them, some of them want to sign with certain teams.
17:28Some of them just aren't that attracted to teams and it's easy for us to sit here and
17:32say that they should sign them.
17:33But for one reason or another, whether it's age, injury, whatever, there's a reason that
17:37they're still free agents.
17:38So I think that obviously this feels like the year zero and we keep calling it that
17:43because I feel like it's a year where you purge your bad contracts.
17:46Like Devante Parker, Matthew Judon, not a bad contract, but you know, now you can eat
17:50some of that dead money to do Smith Schuster in that exact same boat.
17:53They want to throw money around.
17:55I think the whole craft is cheap thing.
17:57Like do people think he doesn't want the Patriots to be good as soon as possible for like obvious
18:02reasons?
18:03I think he's fine with spending the money as long as it's on good players and you're
18:07not paying people who aren't good.
18:08Like Judon and like Devante Parker, where you give them these crazy extensions and then
18:13you end up having to eat that kind of dead cap space.
18:15So I think this is the time where you take it on.
18:17They could sign people to big deals, but I just don't think those quality of players
18:21really want to come here.
18:23You know, Iuke is kind of an exception because typically money is enough to get a player
18:26to come somewhere, wanted clearly to go to Pittsburgh or the 49ers want him to stay there.
18:32And then Calvin Ridley is a different situation because that's an older player who, you know,
18:37has some issues that have kept him off the field and you just don't want to invest four
18:42years and all that money into him.
18:44So I don't think once again, they need to be throwing money around just because they
18:47have it.
18:48I think that's what, you know, is the sign of someone who's kind of panicking.
18:51I think they understand it's okay if they kind of take this slow next off season, if
18:56they can show that there are some ability with their young talent.
18:59Obviously if the defense balls out again, even if they're not as good without the guys
19:03on the defensive line who are such difference makers, that's how you get yourself in the
19:08position to actually spend all that money instead of just throwing it in places where,
19:12you know, in a year or two, it's going to look really bad because you had all this money
19:16with a player who didn't pan out.
19:18And I just want to kind of give a, my take and read on the whole, and I kind of mentioned
19:23a little bit earlier, but like, well, first with craft, not wanting to spend money, like
19:28you said, like owners make more money when their teams are good.
19:34When Robert craft is winning super bowls, they're like, you spend money to make money.
19:41That's how this stuff works.
19:42And I get some owners are cheap in different leagues and whatever, and some are broke like
19:45Mark Davis really don't have the money to spend the rubber grab.
19:49That's not one of those people, right?
19:50And so that's my, that's my overarching take on the money.
19:56The thing about the rebuild and the Patriots not being good this year, like everyone, and
20:00I get it because they've seen the super bowls and you want to be good right away.
20:04And it is now five years post Tom Brady leaving, but like, and it's almost, you know, why hasn't
20:11Robert craft fix this already?
20:14And it's like, did you want him to from, from bill Belichick year earlier?
20:22Because he almost it's like he made his decision, right?
20:26He gave bill a year, maybe longer than he should have after two, three bad seasons because
20:30it's bill Belichick.
20:31And that was kind of baked in and he made that Patricia mistake and he made last year's
20:35mistake.
20:36And finally he kind of put his foot down and ownership put their foot down and said, okay,
20:40we're going to rehire it.
20:41We're going to hire GM.
20:42We're going to hire a new head coach.
20:43These guys need a chance to work.
20:46Like it's bad.
20:47Don't get me wrong.
20:48Should they have addressed offensive line differently?
20:51Should they have, you know, tried harder to trade up for a Tyler Guyton perhaps.
20:55Is it annoying that we can't really evaluate Drake may right now because the offensive
20:59line is so bad.
21:00Absolutely.
21:01I agree with all of that, but at the same time, let's give it a little time and nobody
21:06wants to be patient because they assume that Elliot Wolf and Gerard Mayo are a part of
21:12the same rebuild that was post Tom Brady.
21:14The first time you need to, frankly, frankly, I'm going to say it Patriots fans need to
21:21suck it up a little bit right now and, and realize that this is a new regime, a new era.
21:29They're not going to fix this, this stuff in eight months time.
21:32They're just not, it's August.
21:38Like it's, it's August.
21:41It's not near five of a rebuild.
21:43It's not, this isn't Mack Jones anymore.
21:45This isn't the, you know, spending 2021 spree for no reason anymore.
21:49This is a new team eight months in, give it some freaking time.
21:53Now there was holes to fill.
21:55There was quarterback wide receiver and offensive line.
21:58They were able to fill two out of three of them this off season.
22:01They went with Drake May.
22:02They went with Jalen Polk and Jayvon Baker.
22:03They waited on offensive line.
22:05Could they have done it differently?
22:07Absolutely.
22:08But this is the way they chose to do it.
22:10You couldn't fill all three that early in the draft.
22:13Let's see.
22:14And if they get it wrong, then we can hold their feet to the fire.
22:18Absolutely.
22:19But right now it is just way too early to already criticize this regime.
22:22That's my take.
22:23And I'm sticking to it.
22:24And I do understand why fans are frustrated because there are, have been so many moves
22:29along the way where it feels like if they had gone in different directions, things could
22:32have gone differently.
22:33If you want to go to Tom brings last season, like he could have stayed to actually, no,
22:38I don't know the way that Belichick and all that stuff that went on behind the scenes,
22:41obviously kind of deteriorated.
22:42But I get why fans are upset, but there is truth in what you're saying, because this
22:47is a completely new regime.
22:49Obviously there are a lot of fold overs on defense, but even they have, you know, new
22:53people in different positions and new guys on the staff, then the offense is completely
22:57different.
22:58You got a few key role players back and leadership is different.
23:01So this is a very new look team and you see it in the fact that they can't get certain
23:05guys.
23:07I think the way they handled this whole Matthew Judon situation earlier could have been better
23:12because you dragged it out to the point where it was put in a position where it could become
23:16public and it could become controversial.
23:18Hopefully, just like we say with all the rookies growing pains, you learn from your mistakes,
23:22you move on, you don't do it again.
23:24You know, we've talked about Gerard Mayo, even still kind of saying some stuff where
23:28he kind of goes back against what he says and puts himself in bad positions.
23:31But Elliot will, for the most part, I'd say is really been killing it with what he's done
23:35with this front office.
23:37Again, offensive tackle, I think you can nitpick and I'm sure we'll nitpick until the solution
23:41is ultimately found.
23:42But they got themselves a guy with experience as a starter and then they drafted the guy
23:46with the top 100 picks.
23:48So I really like what this this front office is doing and I do think fans just need time
23:52and expectations and just give it a year.
23:56Next year, again, you have four top 100 picks and then you have four premium needs.
24:01You can address every single one with those picks with the understanding that ideally
24:05the guys they pick this year to play key roles will also be further along in their development.
24:11I totally agree.
24:12I am.
24:13I'm in the process of trying to.
24:14Here we go. Totally agree with all that.
24:17I think reoriented reorienting expectations for fans is key here.
24:22I think that if you are associating this regime with.
24:27You know, the Bill Belichick regime and what they did, you.
24:31But to not be harsh again, because I just told fans to suck it up, I don't want to say
24:36that you're wrong to do that, but I think you just need to, you know, again, think
24:40things are spoiled.
24:40I take a step back and realize you're spoiled.
24:42You live in Boston.
24:43Yeah, it's understandable.
24:45It is. It is understandable.
24:47You want to win now.
24:47That's the culture here.
24:48It's not just Patriots culture.
24:50It's Boston sports culture.
24:51It's Celtics.
24:52It's Red Sox.
24:53It's Bruins.
24:53Their passion.
24:54I get it.
24:56It's good to be a fan here.
24:58I think that there just needs to be again, I think I like the wording there, the reorientation
25:03of expectations, because this is not bashing your head against the wall yet again with
25:08Bill Belichick, right?
25:09It's it's a new regime.
25:10It's new ideas.
25:11Let it work or let it don't work.
25:14Just give it time before you ultimately make your judgment.
25:17We'll wrap this episode up a little bit.
25:18We'll give some more closing thoughts.
25:20But first, I have a quick word from our friends over at Prize Picks.
25:23Prize Picks is America's number one daily fantasy with over 5 million active users.

25:45community. Today, you can win up to 100 times.
25:49Your money on Prize Picks was as little as four picks, turning $10 into $1,000.

25:57When you play $5, you don't even need to win to receive the $50 bonus.
26:00It's guaranteed.
26:01I heard Brian mention this, and I like the way he tied this in.
26:04Patriots are annoyed and with a rookie quarterback maybe not starting, but the Bears will be
26:13starting Caleb Williams.
26:14And right now on Prize Picks, you can get Caleb Williams to have one passing yard as
26:19one of your picks. And Tyreek Hill, you can also add him to get more than 90 and a half
26:24yards in week one.
26:25That's pretty easy, in my opinion.
26:27I think Tyreek Hill, he was just voted the number one player in the NFL.
26:30Not a bad way to use your Prize Picks here in NFL in week one and moving forward.
26:35So download Prize Picks today and use code CLNS for a first deposit match bonus up to
26:40$100. That's code CLNS on Prize Picks for a deposit match bonus up to $100.
26:46Prize Picks, run your game.
26:49That's Prize Picks.
26:50Now we're going to get our final thoughts here on the Judon trade.
26:54I want to just I wrote this down earlier.
27:00I loop back to it, and it has to do with the rebuild and where they can go from here
27:04because they now lose an edge rusher.
27:07Obviously, we talk about Ximenez and Uche and Jennings and Keone White kind of filling
27:12in. But with now a first round pick next year, a second round pick next year and two
27:18third round picks next year, where do you prioritize that dresser?
27:22Where do you prioritize defensive tackle?
27:24Where do you prioritize everything?
27:25And I say defensive tackle because Barmore, you don't know his situation outside of
27:29Barmore. It's a little, you know, it's not great in that room.
27:33So looking at those first really four picks for top 100 picks next year, where should
27:37the Patriots prioritize their rebuild?
27:41Way too early projections, obviously, let's just get that out of the way.
27:45I would say the first one would be offensive tackle.
27:47Like at least with Jalen Polk and Javon Baker, obviously pop and Keyshawn Booty, Tyrone
27:52Thornton, if you want to throw him in the mix, you have upside at receiver, whereas
27:55Caden Wallace, I do like him.
27:57But Chooks Okorafor is on a one year deal.
27:58So one way or another, you're probably going to need somebody playing offensive tackle.
28:02Now, there's also the complicated element of Mike and Wenu where you don't with Leighton
28:06Robinson being taken with a pretty good pick.
28:09You think that they're going to put him at right guard and then have Mike and Wenu kick
28:13out. But it's kind of tough there.
28:14But I'd like them to just solidify offensive tackle if it is still an area of concern.
28:19Next up, I would go with wide receiver.
28:21I think every year you should be taking those guys in the first couple of rounds just
28:24because they're so talented. And then with the third and the fourth, I would go either
28:28cornerback or defensive line, kind of depending on how the cornerback position plays
28:33out and how Keon White develops and all those things.
28:36But I definitely think the defense, especially in the trenches, they got a lot of guys
28:40and I think they have a lot of good role players, but they don't have a lot of proven
28:44every down difference makers.
28:46So I would like to see that reinforced.
28:48And obviously, Christian Gonzalez locked in Jonathan Jones and Marcus Jones, their health
28:52situations. You don't even know if Jonathan Jones is going to play next year.
28:56Marcus Jones can't stay healthy.
28:57Alex Austin is an unknown commodity, although, you know, we have high hopes for him.
29:02We think he's very talented.
29:03And Marco Wilson, a veteran who's very competitive, but also not really sure what he is
29:07in a full time role either.
29:11All right. You sent me a message on on premium positions.
29:14I don't know if you want to get into that, but if you.
29:17Oh, you know what, I'll let you continue the premium positions, I would say are
29:21offensive. Yeah, that's perfect.
29:23Yeah. Defensive line, whether it's defensive tackle or edge and a quarterback.
29:27Yeah. All right. Perfect. All right. So.
29:31I guess I have one final question for you that I kind of wanted to end the show on, but
29:36before I do that, it's another kind of fun one, and it's a not a way to you said it
29:40was way too early to do those stuff.
29:42I agree. I know you don't like to deal in hypotheticals in the drama and stuff, so I
29:47want to say it's not really this one's on a drama filled question, but it's something
29:50that doesn't really I guess it matters in the state of the discussion.
29:53But do you have any final thoughts on Matthew Jude on this trade where the Patriots go
29:58from here before we wrap this up in terms of Jude on is, you know, covering him?
30:02I didn't cover him for a very long time, obviously because of the injury.
30:05But other than that, last time he was at the mic and there was that whole weird thing
30:09with Jelani to buy where he just kind of wasn't having it.
30:12He was a joy to cover.
30:13He always gave it to us straight.
30:14He was very funny, very entertaining.
30:17You knew it was never going to be boring.
30:19He treated us with respect for the most part.
30:21I know there was one time I asked him just how, you know, he would like to see himself
30:26covered, just like you have different perspectives and see both sides fit.
30:29And he was like, hey, man, I have respect for what y'all do.
30:32As long as you're respectful in the way that you talk about me, you have to criticize me.
30:36That's your job. Go ahead and do it.
30:37And as someone who, you know, I have my inferiority complex, I don't like critiquing
30:42professional athletes on how they can be better.
30:44But understanding that they have that knowledge of like you're doing your best.
30:48Just, you know, don't talk out of your neck.
30:50That was really cool.
30:51So he will be missed in that regard for sure.
30:53But at the end of the day, this is a team that's trying to get itself back off the
30:58ground. And I think that getting yourself a pick in the future with the guy who was
31:02very public in the fact that he wasn't happy with his contract and the team clearly
31:07wasn't even close to what he wanted.
31:09It was what was best for both sides.
31:10Now he gets his money, he gets a shot at maybe making a playoff run.
31:13And the Patriots Drakkenveld team get a little more ammunition to do what they want
31:18to do and keep rebuilding this roster.
31:20Yeah, I agree. A win for both sides.
31:23Patriots getting a third round pick is more than we expected.
31:25Judon, like you mentioned, too, maybe there's an extension in his future that he
31:29wasn't going to be able to get here.
31:31But it does stink, you know, to see him go.
31:34I agree that he was fun, however, he until this kind of last hiccup, it was never that
31:40serious. In a good way, I think, you know, he was dedicated to his craft, he worked
31:47hard, he was, as Evan Lazar correctly pointed out on Twitter earlier, he was the best
31:51Patriot post Brady.
31:53I don't think there's any any disagreement.
31:55The face of the franchise for several years.
31:56The face of the franchise, you know, good with the fans.
32:00I, you know, the until the debacle last week and not going out to sign autographs, he
32:04was always, you know, kind of first out there or practice running around the field.
32:07He was out there like playing and messing around with fans during the preseason game.
32:11Right. And I think he I think he enjoyed his time here.
32:14He him and Bill Belichick had a little, you know, a good relationship there.
32:19And overall, I think he was a good guy to be here.
32:22It's just it was.
32:24Wrong place, wrong or right place, wrong time, I think, for Matthew Judon, I think he
32:28would have been prime, you know, in those in those Super Bowl years, but a good guy, a
32:33good guy here overall.
32:34And I think now he can go get what he wants.
32:37All right, before we wrap this up, I mentioned that.
32:40That was the best Patriots player post Brady, he was the best Patriots player on his team
32:45currently, who is now the Patriots best player in twenty twenty four.
32:51Best player or like their face, no, their face is Drake May.
32:55I don't think there's a question about that.
32:57I think it's David Andrews, honestly, like I think maybe publicly.
32:59But like Drake, he's not going to be playing.
33:01I think if you're looking at that's the Patriots guy, maybe that's a little local, to be
33:06fair. Maybe that's not.
33:07I think Christian Gonzalez, if we're talking like that's the whole nation, it's got.
33:11Oh, best player is Christian Gonzalez.
33:13Yeah. Like it's not.
33:14OK, yeah.
33:15Interesting. OK, I mean, and I well, I took this from from Joe Murray.
33:20He wrapped this up with me as well on my head on ninety five, the sports up.
33:23But I went to real peppers.
33:25I think right now Peppers is their best player, I think as good as Christian Gonzalez was
33:31last year, as high on it on him as I am, it it's kind of no secret now he's been up and
33:36down in camp.
33:37I don't think he's going to I don't think that's the answer.
33:40I don't think that's him.
33:41But I think right now it's Peppers.
33:43I think he'll be OK.
33:45I just think we're still working on potential a little bit with Gonzalez.
33:49Right now, I think it's your real Peppers, but we'll see where it plays out, there's
33:54still a lot more to happen.
33:56There's some building blocks here, but Jabril Peppers being your best player, as good as
34:00he is, or Christian Gonzalez, the second year guy who's only played three career NFL
34:04games, there is clearly a lot of work to do.
34:06So in that I want to acknowledge far more if we're talking literally everyone.
34:11Yes, he is the best player on Patriots.
34:13I said that earlier in the show.
34:14Just, you know, he's not on the field right now for them.
34:18So that makes it Christian Gonzalez.
34:19Yeah, good answer.
34:21We're going to wrap it up, even though there is 2000 of you across all platforms
34:25watching this thing, so we appreciate it.
34:28The support's been awesome.
