Transkrip

00:58But then again, Pak SBY always remind us that sometimes we win, but sometimes we learn.

01:23Labani forever.

09:38but we are happy that you all make it safely here and you are here today.
09:44Once again, applause to our distinguished guests from Stanford University.
09:49A very warm welcome to all of you to the 2025 Udoino Institute Lecture Series,
09:58a forum for strategic dialogue on today's defining challenges.
10:03We are here not only to share ideas, but to advance a shared purpose.
10:11I thank each one of you for answering that call.
10:15Let me begin by sharing this very special place.
10:21Yogyakarta is not just beautiful.
10:25It symbolizes Indonesia's identity.
10:28It is a cradle of Javanese culture and a symbol of our national history,
10:35reminding that the past, present, and future are always connected.
10:43The Udoino Institute, founded in 2017 by President Susilo Bambang Udoino,
10:49is grounded in liberty, prosperity, and security,
10:55values which are vital in our fast-changing interconnected world.
11:00We seek to empower strategic leadership,
11:04nurture inclusive policy thinking,
11:07and foster intergenerational dialogue to help shape a better future.
11:12This year's lecture, Green Growth, Sustainable Growth with Equity,
11:20comes at a time of deep uncertainty and even deeper opportunity.
11:27Asia today contributes more than half of global growth.
11:31Indonesia, under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto,
11:36is pushing forward on multiple fronts from food security and clean water
11:43to energy transition and industrial innovation.
11:48In my capacity as the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development,
11:55I supervise efforts across the different ministries and agencies
12:00in areas of spatial planning and land use,
12:04infrastructure development,
12:07transportation over land, air, and sea,
12:11affordable housing,
12:13as well as regional development and transmigration across the country.
12:18These are all issues very closely connected to sustainability.
12:24Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,
12:26Sustainability is not only about the environment,
12:31but about human dignity, poverty reduction,
12:36and long-term security for future generations.
12:40Sustainability is not a luxury, it is a necessity.
12:45Across Indonesia, we are seeing how integrated solutions can create real change
12:52from improved irrigation that boosts harvest
12:56and buffers against drought
12:58to our emerging leadership in the EV and battery supply chain.
13:04Our development path is increasingly guided
13:08by the principles of resilience, innovation, and social equity.
13:15We are tackling the challenges of rapid urbanization and climate crisis,
13:20including those that reshape coastlines,
13:24strain cities, and increase the need for dignified, affordable housing.
13:30In northern Java, especially Jakarta,
13:35land subsidence and rising seas put millions at risk.
13:41Indonesia is now advancing the giant seawall,
13:44a multi-phase project to protect coastal populations
13:49and key economic zones.
13:52It is a symbol of our national commitment
13:55to adapt to climate change.
13:58We are also responding to a major urban challenge,
14:03waste.
14:04Indonesia produces over 64 million tons of waste annually,
14:10much of it unmanaged.
14:12waste-to-energy facilities are being scaled up
14:16to turn waste into electricity.
14:20This eases landfill loads,
14:22promotes energy diversification,
14:25and supports a circular economy.
14:29Urbanization is accelerating.
14:33More than half of Indonesians now live in cities.
14:37By 2045, that number could reach 70%.
14:41The challenge goes beyond merely constructing homes.
14:46It is about building climate resilient,
14:50well-connected communities.
14:53However, financing and policy barriers
14:56continue to hinder progress.
14:59If we can address this collectively,
15:03housing can become a cornerstone
15:05for fostering equity and driving green growth.
15:11Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,
15:14no country, no matter how large or ambitious,
15:17can walk this path alone.
15:20The challenge we face,
15:22climate change, food and energy insecurity,
15:26digital inequality,
15:27are global, interconnected, and urgent.
15:32They require partnerships, not just policies.
15:36They demand co-creation, not only consultation.
15:42Recent U.S. tariffs and protectionist policies
15:45have shown how one economy,
15:48how one country's decisions can quickly disrupt
15:53the entire global economy,
15:56giving new urgency to the meaning of uncertainty.
16:01That is why today's discussions are so critical.
16:06Let us reflect on three fundamental issues.
16:09Number one, how we can redefine growth
16:13in ways that value both environmental integrity
16:17and human well-being.
16:20Number two, how we can scale technological breakthroughs
16:25so they can uplift not only the few, but the many.
16:32And number three, how we can ensure governance
16:36and collaboration bridge global insight
16:39with local action.
16:42At the Yudhoyuna Institute,
16:44we are committed to dialogue that leads to action
16:48and ideas that bring shared progress.
16:52There is a Javanese saying,
16:55Becik ketiti, olok ketoro.
16:58Good deeds will shine through
17:00and poor decisions cannot stay hidden.
17:03The choices we make today
17:06will shape not only our economies,
17:11but the moral foundation of our future.
17:15Let me express our deepest gratitude
17:18to Dr. Arun Majumdar and his colleagues,
17:24Professor David Cohen, Professor Will Chui,
17:27and Professor Yi Chui
17:28from the Stanford Dewar School of Sustainability.
17:32Their work at the intersection of science,
17:36innovation, and policy
17:38has inspired people worldwide.
17:42We are truly honored by their presence today.
17:46I also want to thank His Excellency,
17:49Bapak Gita Wirjawan,
17:50my mentor, a former trade minister,
17:53and a champion of dialogue and innovation.
17:56His efforts made this collaboration
17:59with Stanford possible
18:00and continue to strengthen Indonesia's place
18:03in global conversations on sustainability.
18:08A special tribute, of course,
18:11goes to our founder,
18:13Bapak Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
18:15As president,
18:20he helped shape the global climate agenda.
18:24He hosted the 2007 Bali Climate Conference,
18:29the COP13,
18:30that led to Bali Roadmap
18:32and paved the way for the Paris Agreement.
18:36He imposed a moratorium on primary forests,
18:41clearing and partnered with Norway
18:43to protect forests.
18:46He co-founded the Coral Triangle Initiative
18:50and championed renewable energy at home.
18:54Globally, he co-chaired the UN high-level panel
18:59that shaped the Sustainable Development Goals.
19:03Even after his presidency,
19:05he continued to lead,
19:07serving as president of the Assembly
19:09and chair of the Council
19:11of the Global Green Growth Institute,
19:14GGGI,
19:16in 2014 to 2016.
19:19His legacy remains a guiding light
19:22for our shared work.
19:24We are also honored
19:27to have a special video message
19:29from His Excellency Ban Ki-moon,
19:32current chair of the Council of the GGGI.
19:36I had the privilege
19:37of meeting him in Hainan
19:39during the Boa Forum for Asia in March.
19:43Though he could not join us in person,
19:46he graciously sent his remarks,
19:49which will be played after this speech.
19:51On behalf of the Yidoyono Institute,
19:54I express our deepest gratitude
19:57for His Excellency Ban Ki-moon,
20:00for his support for this event.
20:03With such distinguished guests and partners,
20:07today's discussions will surely be filled
20:09with insights and opportunities.
20:12We are privileged to learn from each of you,
20:15and together we can lead the way
20:18toward a more resilient world.
20:23Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,
20:27now it is my great honor
20:29to welcome our keynote speaker,
20:31Professor Arun Majumdar,
20:33Dean of the Stanford Doer School of Sustainability.
20:36Professor Majumdar brings the clarity and vision
20:39needed to help us see both the scale
20:42of the challenge and the opportunity before us.
20:46With that, I invite all of us
20:49to listen with care,
20:51question with courage,
20:53and contribute with purpose.
20:56As we work together to ensure
20:58that green growth is not a slogan,
21:01but a strategy for a lasting equity,
21:05resilience, and shared humanity.
21:08Thank you.
