00:00Brilliant to be here today celebrating VE Day and all that it meant and the role
00:04that the railway played. So we've talked all this morning about the role the railway
00:08played directly, so with evacuees, with keeping Britain moving and keeping all
00:12those troops going to where they needed to go, but also the role that the railway
00:15played in terms of those who were called up. 626 Southern Railway employees
00:19who gave their life in service to this country which is extraordinary and it was a
00:23really nice moment for us to pause and reflect here this morning at Hazelmere
00:26signal box that's going to be preserved at the end of this year when we close it.
00:32So has been here, has served its role brilliantly and kept trains moving in this bit of the world
00:38but we are moving into the 21st century, modernising, digitising our signaling, moving to Basingstoke
00:44and really hoping to transform the reliability of the railway in this bit of the world.
00:49So a really brilliant morning here, remembering, recognising, and remembering
00:54the role that the railway has played, and looking forward to the future both of preserving
00:58this brilliant monument here at Hazelmere and delivering an even better railway for customers
01:02in this bit of the world.
