Key dates for SAT exams this year
Transcript
00:00Hello, my name is Amber Allett and I'm a journalist specialising in education.
00:05Secondary school students are currently sitting some of the most important exams of their school
00:09career, but primary school pupils will be tested too this summer. Year sixes will be
00:15sitting their standard assessment tests or SATs at school. This will likely be the first formal
00:21exam many of them will have set and they will be tested on how well they have developed key
00:25numeracy and literacy skills during their time at primary school. Here are some of the key dates
00:30the parents of this year's primary school leavers may want to know when it comes to SATs this year.
00:36On Monday May the 12th the compulsory SAT exams will begin in schools across the country.
00:41They'll start with their English grammar, punctuation and spelling papers that day.
00:46On Tuesday the 13th they'll then take their English reading tests and on Wednesday the 14th and
00:52Thursday the 15th they'll move on to their maths tests. Before your child moves on to secondary
00:57school parents will be sent a special report card detailing how they did on these exams and a few
01:02other subjects judged by their teachers. Namely these will tell you whether your child is working
01:07at or above the government's expected level for their age or whether they might need a little more
01:12help as they head off to secondary school. The date schools will receive these test results will be
01:18Tuesday July 8th this year meaning you should receive your child's report card not long after.
