A dry and sunny weekend is expected for most. However by Sunday, as the heat and humidity builds - and as low pressure approaches from the southwest - there's a risk of thundery showers for some. This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the weekend 08/05/2025. Bringing you this weekend’s weather forecast is Aidan McGivern

00:00Hello and welcome to the Met Office weekend weather forecast. For most of us
00:03it's going to stay dry and sunny into the weekend but there are a couple of
00:07flies in the ointment, two areas of weather fronts moving in, one from the
00:13south and one from the north. In between we keep our area of high pressure and
00:19it's going to turn warmer through Saturday and more especially into Sunday
00:23and Monday. But as the heat rises it'll also turn more humid and this area of
00:28low pressure starts to approach from the southwest and that's going to spark off
00:32some thunderstorms towards the southwest. At the same time is this weather front
00:36moving in to bring an area of cloud as a patchy rain and drizzle. That might just
00:40affect the far northwest of Scotland during Saturday. Meanwhile for most of
00:44the rest of the UK it's blue skies all round and it is a sunny day for the vast
00:50majority. Fair weather cloud building through the day, lighter winds compared
00:54with recent days and it's warming up as I say widely the high teens low 20s 22 23
01:01Celsius possible in some of the sunnier bits. It's a Sunday and it's a
01:07continuation on that theme with plenty of sunny skies and temperatures rising
01:11through the morning after in some places a cool start to the day. But you can see
01:16some changes taking place towards the southwest. An area of rain or thunderstorms
01:21starts to move up from northern France. A lot of uncertainty as is always the case
01:25with these kinds of features about exactly where the rain the showers and
01:30the thunderstorms could strike but most likely towards the southwest first thing
01:34and then into the afternoon as temperatures rise could see one or two heavy
01:38downpours or thunderstorms develop across parts of Wales into other parts of
01:42the west country. Meanwhile we'll also see an area of thickening cloud move into
01:46the northwest of Scotland again with some patchy rain or showers. In between away from these
01:51areas it's going to be another sunny day and it's going to be feeling much warmer
01:57compared with recent days with temperatures up to the mid 20s across some
02:01central parts. A bit cooler on the east coast not as cool as it has been. Now
02:06towards the southwest the area of showers and thunderstorms is likely to
02:09develop more widely into Monday and thunderstorms could affect just but anyone
02:13on Monday and into the start of Tuesday but most likely towards the southwest once
02:17again or perhaps the north of Scotland. But by later Tuesday and into Wednesday
02:23high pressure reasserts itself and we're back to stage one with that high pressure
02:27to the north. A cooler east to the airflow after a relatively hot start the week in
02:33places and a dry end to next week. So hit and miss showers and thunderstorms to
02:39start the week before we're back to dry weather and settled weather for the rest
02:44of the week.
