00:00Nice to meet you, nice to meet you. I'm Abby. My name is Abby. Nice to meet you. Come in. Is she?
00:20Hello. Hi. Nice to meet you Jade. My name's Ali. I'm Jade. Lovely to meet you. Hi.
00:26Hello, hello. Hi. You know you from Little Mix? Yes, correct. I was in Little Mix.
00:41Oh, it's an X Factor. Oh my gosh, that's such a throwback. We used to have to do that all the time.
00:47Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. Hi. Same thing. I'm Shana. How are you?
01:01I'm Dinani. Dinani. I'm your big fan. Oh, thank you. Aw. Cheers.
01:05We're going to start now. Jacob, would you like to do our introduction? Let's go, Jacob.
01:21Welcome to the Assembly, our collective of autistic, neurodivergent and learning disabled interviewers.
01:27Our rules are no question is out of bound, no subject is off the table, and all might happen.
01:35Prepare for hard questions today. Whoa. Please tell us who you are.
01:40I am Jade Thirlwall, and I'm very happy to be here.
01:46So, I'm Jacob, everyone. Jacob. Hi, Jacob. Good job, Jackie. Good job.
01:51We're going to come to Paul first. Hello, Paul. Hello, I'm Paul. Yeah?
01:59A lot of X Factor readers have sold their soul. Do you regret selling yours?
02:04Do I regret selling my soul?
02:08That's a good question.
02:10Erm...
02:12Erm...
02:13Maybe a little bit in the beginning, you know, in terms of I was so young and I just signed the dotted line.
02:30But, erm, I feel like as the years have gone by and I've learnt more and more about the industry,
02:34I've been, like, collecting, a bit like Thanos with the stones, I've been collecting parts of my soul back.
02:39Erm...
02:41As I've gained more and more creative freedom, I've learnt more about the industry.
02:46Is it the end of Simon Cowell?
02:48Oh.
02:50I think it's the end of that kind of, erm, TV show or music label.
02:56I think it's the end of that era.
02:58But I don't know if Simon Cowell specifically is ended.
03:03You like Simon Cowell?
03:04Have I met him?
03:05Yeah, my Simon Cowell.
03:06Yeah, I've been round his house for a roast.
03:08A roast?
03:09Yeah.
03:11How is it?
03:12Simon Cowell's house?
03:13A lot of monochrome.
03:14Yeah.
03:16Next up with a question is Luca.
03:18Greetings, Jade.
03:19Greetings.
03:20The name is Luca.
03:21Luca.
03:25You know what?
03:26I'm just going to say it.
03:27This is really important, you know?
03:29OK.
03:30The autistic mind is telling me Luca asked this question.
03:32Just be nice about it.
03:34So, you know you're a part Egyptian?
03:35Yeah.
03:36Can you tell me, were the pyramids created by aliens?
03:44I don't know if I'm qualified.
03:47I mean, something spectacular made them.
03:49Because if you watch...
03:52If you watch those...
03:54If you watch those documentaries, we can't actually explain it, right?
03:59And because they're dotted all over the world, not just Egypt.
04:01Exactly.
04:02You know, you've got them in...
04:03Is it Mexico?
04:04Mexico.
04:05Yeah.
04:06This sort of pyramid shape.
04:07Like, what does it mean?
04:09I really appreciate that.
04:10Thank you, Luca.
04:11Joseph?
04:12Hello.
04:13Hello, hello.
04:14Personal question.
04:15Mm-hm.
04:16How is your relationship between you and your mum?
04:20Oh, erm...
04:22Well, I adore my mum.
04:24Mum really looked like Diana Ross when I was little.
04:26Really?
04:27She had the big, sort of bushy, long hair, and then, you know, the big doe eyes.
04:32I love Diana Ross.
04:34When she would sort of go off to do the bingo with her friends, she'd be like,
04:37I'm off to do a gig.
04:39Like, so I thought my mum was Diana Ross.
04:41LAUGHTER
04:42Erm, yeah.
04:43Yeah, we've definitely got closer as the years have gone on.
04:47I think, as a teenager, because we never discussed things that I didn't realise I needed to talk
04:54about, like race, erm, I think it actually affected me quite a bit.
04:59I was quite scared to promote or, erm, speak out about my heritage.
05:06And, honestly, that's something that I still carry with me now.
05:10I'm quite ashamed of that.
05:13Right, yeah, I see.
05:15Which I think, once we finally started talking about my mum's experiences,
05:20I feel like we became closer than ever.
05:22It was the missing link of the thing we'd not, like, connected over.
05:25Yeah, yeah.
05:26Do you know what I mean?
05:27We've always been close, but I think that experience particularly drew us even closer.
05:33Wow. I'm genuinely happy for you.
05:37Takara?
05:41Hi.
05:42Hi.
05:45Um...
05:56I would like to, erm...
05:59Yeah?
06:00Duet with you on one of your songs.
06:04Oh, my gosh.
06:06If I sang Black Magic, would you do it with me?
06:10Yes, of course. I'd love to.
06:12Oh, my gosh.
06:13Has anyone got the music ready?
06:15All right.
06:16I think we're going acapella.
06:17Yeah, all right.
06:18One, two.
06:19Oh, my gosh.
06:20Oh, yeah.
06:21OK.
06:22Take a sip of my secret potion.
06:23I'll make you fall in love.
06:24With a sip that can be broken.
06:26What do you do for me in love?
06:27Shhh.
06:28What do you mean to me?
06:29What are you meant to be in love?
06:31What are you meant to me?
06:33I've got the recipe, it's all black magic.
06:37It's all black magic.
06:39Take a step, I'm a secret potion.
06:41What's this and you'll be mine.
06:43When it's fun, I can't be broken.
06:46They'll bring you up all night.
06:48What are you meant to me?
06:50I've got the recipe, it's all black magic.
06:53It's all black magic.
06:55Thank you, Dakara, that was really special.
07:06Oh my God.
07:08Thank you so much.
07:10That was great.
07:12And Dakara's like the coolest name.
07:15You're welcome.
07:15Oh my God.
07:18Oh my gosh.
07:21Next question is from Essin.
07:23Like myself, you come from a Muslim, Catholic background.
07:29What was that like for you growing up?
07:32It was quite confusing actually.
07:35Because I would go to Muslim school and then I would go to church.
07:40Yeah.
07:41So I think from a young age I was kind of like, well, which one is it guys?
07:45Exactly.
07:46My granddad Muhammad, he was so proud to be Muslim and he was the most beautiful soul.
07:53So I really wanted to make him proud.
07:56When he passed away, I was 13.
07:59And it's a shame because I feel like that part of my heritage and culture sort of went with him.
08:05I was a similar age when one of my grandfathers passed away.
08:09I think what was also really hard is the fact that I couldn't tell him about my true identity being from the trans community.
08:16He would never have accepted that being he was Turkish Muslim.
08:20Yeah.
08:21I find it so, so hard.
08:23That's really difficult.
08:23If there is a Muslim background there, there's obvious conflicts there with...
08:29Of course.
08:30Yeah.
08:30I mean, like with my granddad Muhammad, I don't know if he would have been happy with my lifestyle choices or...
08:37But I think it's okay to love that person and now they're gone, it's okay to accept that that's who they were and...
08:45Exactly.
08:47That doesn't mean they didn't love you any less.
08:49And in my opinion, if there is something bigger than us and we're taught that they love us, Shirley, you can be whoever you want to be and you're loved either way, right?
09:01Exactly.
09:01Yeah.
09:14What was your worst ever date you've been on?
09:17Yeah.
09:18Oh.
09:18Yes.
09:19Oh, my gosh.
09:20Um, I have been catfished before.
09:25Do you know what that means?
09:26Catfished.
09:27So being catfished is when they don't look like the picture.
09:31Okay.
09:32Um, so, yeah, I met up with a guy at a bar and I didn't know it was him because he looked so different.
09:38He was asking a lot of sort of intrusive questions, almost like a journalist.
09:44Um, so I got the ick quite quickly there.
09:47Ali, would you like to ask your question now?
09:49about your boyfriend, Jordan, who's like, what was your date night like for you and him?
09:57you and him okay so we met in lockdowns we have to stay isolated yes and we did
10:06three zoom dates and because we were all bored of them at that point for our
10:11first date we put suits on and we did it like a business interview and we asked
10:16each other very serious questions like I think one of my questions was do you
10:26clap when the plane lands because that's a big I did that long time ago clapping
10:31when the plane lands yeah that's not for me do you know what there is something I
10:35would give advice about relationships like share the interests ask what's your
10:40favorite food or activities then when you're ready on a date you could you
10:46could see what what it's like and how it feels to experience the food you die you
10:52like and which ones you don't like yeah that's great advice ah well thank you
10:57for your for your time I appreciate you I loved your questions oh yeah I would say
11:01that too and the advice I made as well thank you okay Sophie you're up
11:07hello about a fact about me yes I did music in college did you yeah so I heard
11:14you do GCSE music yes and I heard you stole a song which song was it oh I love to say it
11:25well I get in trouble by the GCSE board and so when I did music one of the like course
11:33bit things was to write a song I panicked and it was a last-minute thing so I took the chorus
11:38out of a song from dream girls the musical I pretended it was my song I know that's bad well
11:46in Hollywood they do it all the time well they will now but yeah that is pretty bad question from
12:01Elijah up next yeah can you give an example of a question that an interviewer would ask a female
12:08celebrity that they wouldn't ask a male celebrity the thing that I'm being I'm gonna be very honest
12:14now about this the thing that annoys me the most that I get asked a lot is if I'm gonna have children
12:19do I want to be pregnant next am I pregnant but I find it really weird and people ask that because
12:27they don't know what my circumstances are you know you don't know if someone can't have children or
12:34just doesn't want to or they're not ready yet I think it's a really invasive question yeah and I
12:40really resent being asked it and because of that as well it's meant that um I've put on like maybe a
12:47little bit of weight since I've become a solo artist and because of that people speculate a lot like oh
12:53is she pregnant I'm like guys I just had a bit of garlic bread and bloated but it's like I can't I
13:00feel like I have to always be conscious now of like oh god make sure I'm not bloated because they're
13:04gonna start saying that I'm pregnant again yeah did that answer your question yeah thank you next up
13:10we've got Nicola who's gonna ask you a question hi Jade how are you good thank you I am a big fan of
13:17little mix who's your dentist he's my dentist yeah well I've got a local one but I do go to see this
13:29guy I think on his Instagram he's called the tooth fairy I mean it makes sense how long you be the
13:38dentist hello yeah oh gosh I'd probably do an appointment to be honest next up we've got
13:45Julius you were quite close with Liam Payne and there's a lot of difficult stories out there and
13:55a lot of negativity surrounding him I just wondered if you'd like to share a positive memory that you
14:02guys have and just talk about what he was like as a person he was the first friend I made in the
14:11industry we both auditioned for x-factor when we were very young it was just so lovely he was obviously
14:17very talented and he really wanted to make his family proud which he did and and just I remember
14:26everyone who was on the show at the time being like oh this person's a star you know you could tell
14:32he literally had the x-factor so um he was destined to to be a musician and a singer and so yeah thank you
14:45I'm glad you asked that okay Jenny you're up next hi hi do you get trapped wind do you get trapped wind oh
15:00I do get trapped wind um and it's really painful actually has anyone had it before yeah I had it
15:09it's really painful I've been told numerous times that if you actually get on all fours and it does
15:15work you know what on the floor yeah if you get literally on all fours like a dog okay for whatever
15:21reason it will pass through Paris we heard you are very good at dancing could you teach us some dance
15:33moves yeah if you are you gonna dance with me yeah I'm very good at dancing yeah you know everyone's
15:40got a bit of you know a rhythm in them offer it girl maybe I can show you a bit of that one because
15:44that's the one that's fresh in my head I started like this ago like a giant come on yeah and it
15:51would go scat like it was biting cut yeah and then I go scat what would you call this you're good at
15:57that's an addiction yeah yeah then I walk forward for two one two and then guys and then I clutch my
16:07boobs oh okay they'll go da da da and then I go ca ca so I'll do it again with you yeah five six seven eight
16:17I am the it girl walk walk I am the shit girl maybe that was the wrong song choice thank you
16:33Paris thank you Cameron so this question is quite personal so if you don't feel comfortable answering
16:39I understand okay thank you I know when you were younger you suffered with an eating disorder
16:44when did you realize you actually had a problem um do you know I I don't think I realized for a long
16:55time because it became so normal for me and and I hid it quite well and my school counselor sort of
17:05said to me I think you've got a problem you know an issue here and that's when my family sort of
17:11intervened I don't know I've been asked about this before and I think people always assume especially
17:18for young girls that it's about how you look or things like that and sometimes it's actually just
17:22about control and at that point in my life I had a um a lot of things going on that I couldn't
17:29control whether that was bullying or my granddad passing away things like that do you try to kind of
17:33grasp onto the one thing you could control I think so yeah I had a sort of intervention where all my
17:39family sat with me and some doctors and kind of gave me some harsh truths and I think once I realized
17:48that it wasn't just affecting me it was affecting the people I loved around me that's when I thought
17:54I really need to to change this you know I'd never seen particularly in my sort of brother and my dad be so
18:02upset before so yeah that made me want to change thank you thank you so yeah thank you for that
18:20but honestly I'm not just seeing this because I'm here this is my favorite interview that I've ever
18:33done and on that note we're gonna set up a performance oh okay would you like to work with you on a song do you like if you need rapping and vocals yeah
18:48yeah it sounds sick it's an actual band
18:50I love this song this one
19:01I love this song this one
19:01I love this song
19:05I love this song
19:11I love this song
19:13I love this song
19:15I love this song
19:18I love this song
19:41so sick
19:43There's a new me coming out, and I just have to live
19:48And I wanna give, I'm completely positive
19:52I think this time around, I am gonna do it
19:57Like you never knew it, oh, I'll make it through
20:01The time has come for me to break out of the shell
20:05I have to shout that I'm coming out
20:10I'm coming out, I want the love to know

20:42Know how I play
20:44I'm spreading love, there's no need to be
20:48And I just feel so good every time I hear it
