00:00A few years ago, another outstanding Grand Prix venue, the Grand Prix circuit at Brands Hatch.
00:06That was the latest stopping off point for the Autotrader British Touring Car Championship.
00:10It's rounds 13 and 14 at Brands Hatch. Once again, Murray Walker.
00:16They came, they saw, they conquered.
00:19This year's British Touring Car Championship has been dominated by the German Audi newcomers.
00:24With six wins, Frank Bieler is a massive 49 points ahead of Rickard Rydell, but it's close for the next five places.
00:33There's the usual giant crowd to watch today's two races on the full Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit, and qualifying was a real eye-opener.
00:43Even for Frank Bieler, nearly a second slower than Alan Menuh's Renault.
00:481995 champion John Cleland is all smiles, but it's no joke for David Leslie, or for BMW champion Roberto Revalia.
00:57Joe Winklehock's won four times for BMW, but he's up against it today.
01:02Rydell is two. He's a pole position specialist, but his Volvo is way down on Menuh's time today.
01:10Two on the bonnet, but the Renault Laguna looked number one, with Menuh's teammate Will Hoy back on the pace.
01:18I think it's the best day we have had so far this season.
01:22I mean, the car is better. We went testing at Snetterton earlier this week, and we have improved it.
01:26The engine is a bit better as well, and I mean, it's a track where I knew that the Laguna would be quicker,
01:32because we've got basically a very good chassis.
01:34And it's a driver's circuit. I like it here, so, you know, all those things together, and it's a good time.
01:40And there's a heartening sight, Kelvin Burke, back in the fray, looking good,
01:45following his colossal Oolton Park accident a month ago, when his Volvo went off at 120 miles an hour.
01:52That's the heaviest accident I've ever had.
01:55The car was going quite quickly, and it stopped very suddenly, so there was quite a lot of force there,
02:00even though it wasn't really a spectacular accident to look at, but I'm still really getting over it.
02:07I'm getting back to fitness slowly, but it's amazing how just even a week in hospital and two weeks sitting at home,
02:13how your fitness drops off and your energy level drops off.
02:16And that's the main thing I've noticed in the past three, four weeks, is a lack of energy, but it's getting better all the time.
02:23Not a spectacular accident. You could fool me.
02:27Oh, well, here comes Alan Menuh onto the grid.
02:30Qualifying is one thing. Maybe the race will be different.
02:33Biela's Audi is carrying a 30-kilogram weight penalty now, so that'll affect his getaway.
02:40Volvo 850 and Renault Laguna, third and fourth.
02:42Paul Radisic, sixth, higher than he's been for a long time, and Joe Winklehock, eighth, much lower than he's used to.
02:50Kelvin Burt, an excellent ninth for his return.
02:53Row six, Thomson's Vectra, K's private Vauxhall.
02:56But John Binkliffe's works Audi is way down at 13th.
03:01Remember, it's the superb 2.6-mile Grand Prix circuit.
03:07Away they go.
03:09And Biela closes right up on Alan Menuh as they go into the right-hander at Panic.
03:16They're together, but Menuh's got the inside on the corner. That'll help him.
03:20Away up Halewood Hill, into Druids.
03:24This is it.
03:24So, it's Menuh, Biela, Rydell is in third position.
03:33And off goes Paul Radisic on the very first lap.
03:36We're inside his car now.
03:39Well, and James Kay's gone off.
03:41That's his Honda Accord, stationary just outside the corner.
03:45Pilgrim's drop, 140 miles an hour.
03:47Menuh leads, Biela is second, Rydell.
03:49Heidel, Poi is fourth, Winklehock in the BMW is fifth.
03:54So, now the next corner is Westfield.
03:56Out of Westfield to Dingordell.
03:58That's about 125 miles an hour.
04:01Then through the right-left flick.
04:03A terrific speed, and it looks fabulous.
04:06There it is.
04:06And we're in car with John Clelland.
04:13That's Revalia's BMW, the white car ahead.
04:16Birch is ahead of him.
04:17Revalia goes off, and they'll give John Clelland a chance to close up a bit
04:21as they exit Stirling.
04:23Going to the right-hander at Clearways.
04:25Coming through to complete the lap.
04:27We're riding with last year's champion, and here is Menuh leading.
04:30One lap completed.
04:31Miela is second.
04:32Look at the gap.
04:33Rydell third.
04:35Fourth is the second Renault of Wilhoy.
04:37Fifth is Winklehock.
04:39Round Paddock up to Druids again.
04:42Menuh's got a clear track in front of him.
04:44Biela looks to me as though he's holding them up.
04:47There is Wilhoy.
04:48And we're with Winklehock now.
04:50This is a replay.
04:51The climb up to Druids.
04:52Revalia ahead.
04:53Radisic goes through on the left.
04:55Tries to drive round the outside of Revalia.
04:59Revalia just moves across.
05:02Off goes Radisic.
05:04And here is Menuh.
05:06Biela is second.
05:07Rydell is third.
05:08So it's Audi second.
05:11Volvo is third.
05:13Moreno is leading.
05:16And here is Menuh.
05:18Paddock completing the lap.
05:20There's the championship leader behind him.
05:22Ricard Rydell's Volvo.
05:24Up Hailwood Hill again.
05:26Here is Menuh and Druids.
05:27And you can see he's extending the gap all the time.
05:32And Frank Biela can do nothing about it.
05:35So down to Graham Hill Bend.
05:37This is the left-hander.
05:39Downhill.
05:40Along the Cooper Street.
05:41Into the left-hander at Sertis.
05:44Four-wheel drive Audi.
05:45Front-wheel drive Volvo.
05:47We're inside the Volvo now.
05:49That's the Audi ahead of us.
05:50The second-place car of Frank Biela.
05:52Over the crest.
05:53Into the tremendously fast Pilgrim's Drop.
05:56That is 140 miles an hour.
05:59As they approach the climb to Hawthorne.
06:01So it's Biela.
06:02Rydell.
06:03This is Wilhoy.
06:04Behind him is Winklehock.
06:06There's the German.
06:07And we're inside the BMW now.
06:09He's up to fifth position.
06:10That's Wilhoy's Renault ahead of him.
06:12So Redos are first and fourth.
06:14The BMW is fifth.
06:16The Audi is second.
06:17The Volvo is third.
06:19Dingle Dell coming up.
06:21Boy.
06:22Winklehock.
06:23Leslie goes through.
06:24Thompson.
06:25Bird is in eighth position in the Volvo.
06:27Revalia behind him with a broken bumper.
06:31And it's a new lap record for Alameda.
06:33105 miles an hour.
06:36Pulling away from Biela and Rydell all the time.
06:40And out goes the safety car.
06:42Not too clear why.
06:45But that's really tough on Alan Menuh.
06:48There he is.
06:48He had a three-second lead.
06:50And all that is going to disappear.
06:52Because they just have to line up behind the safety car.
06:56Oh, there's the answer.
07:02It's James Kay's Honda Accord.
07:03They're retrieving that.
07:04Oh, and of course there is Radisic's Ford Mondeo further up.
07:09That's it.
07:10With the Marshalls man handling it into a safer position.
07:15Replay.
07:16We're on car with James Thompson.
07:18Row six.
07:19Bert and Clelland in front of us.
07:20That's John Clelland's box hall.
07:23Thompson comes up alongside his teammate.
07:25Tries to get through a pattern.
07:26This is lap one.
07:28There's the Volvo on the right.
07:29Now Thompson is staying wide.
07:31He goes round the outside of Clelland.
07:33Look at the way he's closing the gap past the Volvo.
07:36Look ahead and you'll see Radisic try to do the same thing.
07:39And off he goes with Revalia.
07:42That's how that crash happened.
07:44And the safety car is coming in.
07:47So the race will restart.
07:48And remember that Vila is right up behind Menuh now.
07:53But a searing getaway by the Renault.
07:56And he's rebuilt the gap.
07:58Vila second.
07:59Rydell are still behind the Audi in third position.
08:03Wilhoy is there.
08:05Lesley's going through and taking Winklehokk.
08:07So the Honda goes ahead of the BMW as they climb up Hayward Hill into Druids.
08:11Here it is.
08:14Eleven is Lesley.
08:15There is Winklehokk.
08:18Behind him James Thompson.
08:19Down to Graham Hillbend.
08:23Winklehokk in the white BMW.
08:24Behind him the Vectra.
08:26They all go into 30s.
08:27Nose to tail.
08:28Tremendously close.
08:30The difficulty of course is getting past.
08:32Over the crest.
08:36Down the hill comes Menuh.
08:37He's two seconds ahead of Vila and Rydell now.
08:41Nobody behind seems to be able to do anything about the man in front.
08:45We're with Winklehokk.
08:47In the BMW.
08:48That is David Lesley's Honda Accord in front.
08:51Round the right-hander at Westfield.
08:53Now it's downhill into Dingledale.
08:57Climb up.
08:58It's a wonderful circuit here.
09:00The France Hatch Grand Prix circuit.
09:02Through the pick at 125 miles an hour.
09:06Hello.
09:06What's this?
09:07Two Peugeots and Robertson's Ford Mondeo.
09:10And one of them is slowing down.
09:12The one on the right.
09:13Robertson goes past.
09:14It's Patrick Watts.
09:15We're inside his Peugeot 406 now.
09:22And he's obviously touring into the pits from the way he's going.
09:25Patrick Watts' race is over but Menuh certainly isn't.
09:28Nor is Vila's, nor is Rydell's.
09:30Or Hoy's.
09:31Or Lesley's.
09:33They go through into another lap.
09:35Round Paddock.
09:36That's Vila.
09:37We're with Richard Kaye now.
09:38The top privateer.
09:40And it's John Bindcliffe's Audi ahead.
09:43Now this is a terrific drive.
09:45Richard Kaye, number 23, in last year's Vauxhall Cavalier.
09:50He's right up with the works Audi.
09:52And into the pits comes Patrick Watts.
09:55Driver's view.
09:58And he's out.
10:00Oh, Gary Ailes is out too.
10:02That's the new Nissan Primera.
10:04Some problem.
10:06Westfield for battle for fifth.
10:08Lesley.
10:09And Winklehoff.
10:10Honda Accord and Audi.
10:12Chasing Will Hoy's Renault.
10:15Dickel Dale again.
10:17See how difficult it is to get past.
10:19The performance of the cars is virtually identical.
10:22They stay on the racing line unless they make a mistake, as Lesley just did there.
10:27Nearly went right over the kerb.
10:29And that's Charlie Lamb, the Schnitzer team boss.
10:32He's probably wondering whether Joe Winklehoff, number 22, is going to be able to get past David Lesley's Honda.
10:38It doesn't look like it.
10:39We're with Winklehoff now.
10:41And he waves his hand despairingly.
10:43I can't do anything about it, he says to Charlie Lamb.
10:46He turns in at Paddock.
10:48Interesting to compare the performance of the works BMW and the works Honda Accord.
10:55That's getting better and better race by race.
10:57There's the bearded David Lesley.
10:59And when you can, have a look at Joe Winklehoff and see how low he is in the car.
11:04It's incredible to me that he can see out of it.
11:07It's all up there.
11:08You see?
11:09Look at his head.
11:09He's only just looking over the bottom of the windscreen.
11:13Inter-30 is the left-hander.
11:15It's all to do with weight distribution.
11:17Getting the driver's weight in the right place and as far back as possible.
11:22Pilgrims.
11:23Menuh's long gone.
11:24Vela is second.
11:25Rydell is third.
11:25Hoy is fourth.
11:26Lesley's fifth.
11:27Winklehoff right behind him in sixth position.
11:30Then the Vauxhall Vectra.
11:33In the red Peugeot, Tim Harvey's going for it.
11:36Through on the inside of Owen McCauley's Nissan.
11:40Oh, and he savages it.
11:42McCauley slows right down.
11:43Robertson goes through.
11:45Here they come.
11:46Down Pilgrims drop Harvey.
11:48Behind him, Robertson in the Ford Mondeo.
11:50So McCauley has lost two places.
11:54Around Westfield.
11:55And behind him is Lee Brooks.
11:57That's the man that's leading the total cut contest for the privateers.
12:01It is Toyota, number 17.
12:05Harvey pulling away.
12:07Ford, Nissan, Toyota.
12:12McCauley runs wide.
12:13Brooks goes through.
12:18And Harvey is off.
12:20Tim Harvey off in the Peugeot.
12:22Didn't see what happened, but there's the conclusion.
12:26And meanwhile, Alan Menuh is absolutely racing away.
12:29Look at the gap.
12:30It's five seconds now.
12:31Vila, Audi, second.
12:33Ryder, Volvo, third.
12:34Hoy, Renault, fourth.
12:37Then the battle for fifth between Leslie and Winklehock.
12:41Honda and BMW.
12:42Inside the BMW.
12:44Can Joe Winklehock do anything about David Leslie?
12:47Well, David Leslie's tires don't look as though they're going to last very long if he keeps on looking up like that.
12:52Around the hill bend.
12:57Leslie is the car on the right.
12:58Behind him is Winklehock.
13:00Here is the Honda.
13:01There is the BMW.
13:03With Winklehock just peeping over the top of the windscreen.
13:07Round the left-hander at 30s.
13:10Over the crest again.
13:12And Frank Bieler stays second.
13:15Rydell stays third.
13:17He hasn't got very much longer to do something about getting past the Audi, but my goodness, he's been trying for a long time.
13:23Westfield again.
13:27Watch this.
13:28Four-wheel drive in the front.
13:29Front-wheel drive behind.
13:32There's Menuh leading.
13:33Look for the gap as he turns into Stirling's.
13:36There it is.
13:37And it's a good five seconds.
13:41Well, Frank Bieler's done well, actually.
13:43Remember, he's carrying that extra 30 kilograms.
13:46And Al-Amenuh comes out of Stirling's.
13:49Into clear ways.
13:51Down the start and finish straight for the last time.
13:54The Williams Mechanics are euphoric.
13:56It's their first win of the year.
13:58A perfect conclusion.
14:02Well, now, there's a change.
14:04An absolutely crushing win by over four seconds for Menuh, but under a second covers the next three.
14:10Both the Renault Lagunas in the top four and a great comeback for Kelvin Burt right up there in the Volvo.
14:16I mean, I knew after qualifying that the car was very good.
14:19And I was pretty sure if it was going to be dry, I would win it.
14:24And I did.
14:25But, you know, it's never easy because you...
14:27I mean, you know, the car is still difficult to drive when the tyres go off.
14:30So it's, you know, I still have to concentrate quite hard.
14:32But, you know, it's very good for round one for Williams.
14:35Switzerland, Germany and Sweden on the podium.
14:43But Paul Radisic is not a happy chappy.
14:46I was on the outside of Rivali going through Druids and, you know, I feel that he wasn't really sportsman enough.
14:53And he gave me a good old scene, too, on the side and just pushed me offline and straight into the tyres.
15:00So, yeah, I'm very, very disappointed with his driving.
15:04And we'll just let the officials have a look at it and take it from there.
15:09You're not going to speak to Roberto yourself?
15:11I might go and have a couple of words.
15:13I feel very disappointed with what he did there.
15:16Are you going to talk to him?
15:17Yeah.
15:18Can we come?
15:19Ah-ha, there's Roberto.
15:24Little does he know it, but Radisic approaches.
15:27Just for a chummy little chat, you know.
15:33Meantime, let's remind ourselves what happened.
15:36Menu leads, Bieler second, look for the Ford and the BMW.
15:39There they are and into the wall goes Radisic.
15:42It's been two now and looks every time it's been you and me, you know.
15:46Otherwise, okay, you are disappointed, but you have no think to overtake outside.
15:53Also I'm disappointed.
15:55If you took like this, also I'm disappointed.
15:59Because all you can see, you will take me outside.
16:02I have a better line, I'm inside.
16:04And I go where I want.
16:05Okay?
16:07Thank you, Roberto.
16:10And goodbye.
16:11So, now for race two.
16:18Both the Renault Lagunas on the front row this time.
16:20The Williams team have cracked it.
16:22Third is David Leslie's highest grid position yet.
16:25Winklehock's BMW, Thompson's Vectra.
16:28An excellent seventh and eighth for Robertson and Burt,
16:31but an awful ninth for championship leader Frank Bieler.
16:34Row six, Revali has mended BMW and Harvey's Peugeot.
16:38Patrick Watts is thirteenth ahead of Radisic.
16:42Seventeen more laps.
16:48We're with Menü, pole position, look at the lights ahead.
16:53Change and go.
16:56And look at Winklehock from fourth.
16:59He's inside Leslie, he's past Leslie.
17:01There's a contact there.
17:03And Winklehock barges his way up into second position.
17:06Incredible.
17:06We're with Leslie now, third place.
17:09That's the Winklehock BMW in front of us, climbing.
17:11Hellwood Hill.
17:13Menü turns in, Winklehock is second.
17:15Leslie is third.
17:16Hoy is trying to go round the side of him, but fails.
17:19Need to grab Hillbend, and already,
17:22Alan Menü has got a gap between himself and the BMW.
17:25Here he comes.
17:26Menü, Winklehock, Leslie third.
17:29Hoy is having a go and does it.
17:30Hoy goes through, up into third position.
17:33Will Hoy in the Renault.
17:34Passes Leslie.
17:35And now we're inside Watts' Peugeot, and Ailes has hit Richard Kaye.
17:41Ailes goes off.
17:42Watts accelerates.
17:44Passes Radisicis Mondeo.
17:46He's had a problem too.
17:47And Watts races away.
17:49Down Pilgrim's drop.
17:50140 miles an hour.
17:52Up to Hawthorns.
17:53And at Westfield, there's the battle for Poe.
17:56Hoy.
17:57Leslie.
17:57Number one is John Clelland.
18:00He's in fifth position.
18:02Diggledale, Menü and Winklehock.
18:04This is 125 miles an hour.
18:06Clelland goes through.
18:07They're leaping into the air, over the curbs.
18:10Wonderful stuff.
18:11Need to Sterlings.
18:13And look for 45.
18:14Frank Bieler.
18:15He's in the traffic.
18:16And right behind him, it's the red Peugeot of Harvey.
18:20But Menü leads.
18:21Winklehock second, Hoy third.
18:23It's tremendously close.
18:24There is Harvey.
18:2545 is Bieler.
18:27And he's the championship leader.
18:30Through to complete another lap.
18:32Into Paddock.
18:35120 miles an hour.
18:37This is Frank Bieler.
18:38Audi.
18:40This is a replay.
18:41Big Cliff and Radisic.
18:42Radisic on the right.
18:43We're inside Big Cliff's Audi.
18:45And Crump.
18:46He hits the Mondeo.
18:47Poor old Paul Radisic.
18:48He always seems to get it.
18:49But he rejoins the track.
18:51Masterly recovery.
18:53Alan Menü has broken his own lap record.
18:55105.2 miles an hour.
18:57Look at the gap to Winklehock.
18:59Look at the gap to third position.
19:01Will Hoy in the yellow Renault.
19:03Right behind him is Leslie in the Honda.
19:05Then the two vectors.
19:06Clelland and Thompson.
19:08Into Sterlings.
19:09The left-hander.
19:11We're with John Clelland.
19:12Our fifth position.
19:13Chasing Leslie's Honda Accord.
19:15The run down to Clelland.
19:18He's the right-hander.
19:19Out of that, into the surge at Crabham Strait at 140 miles an hour.
19:24And Menü leads by nearly four seconds.
19:28Winklehock.
19:29Hoy.
19:30Leslie.
19:31Vectra.
19:32Vectra.
19:33Clelland.
19:33Thompson.
19:34Then the Volvo.
19:35Then the Audi of Vila.
19:36Harvey's Peugeot.
19:38And that is Revalia in the white BMW.
19:41Brown paddock.
19:42Up to Druids.
19:45And Revalia is having a go.
19:47And Steve Robertson, number 16.
19:48Revalia in the BMW 21.
19:51Inside the Ford Mondeo.
19:53Steve Robertson, who's had a bad run of luck this season, holds his line away with Richard Kaye.
19:58That's his brother, James, in the white Honda, who's pulling away.
20:02He's recovering from a ten-second penalty at the start.
20:05Owen McCauley goes inside him.
20:07Runs very wide.
20:08Kaye regains his line.
20:10I think McCauley's gone off.
20:11Yes, he has.
20:12Look.
20:12Down at the bottom of the hill.
20:14The Nissan's gone off.
20:15Kaye has gained a place.
20:16He's gained two places.
20:17He's gone past his brother.
20:19He's gone past McCauley.
20:20And at Pilgrims, it's Hawaii third.
20:23Leslie Form, Cleland, Thompson, and Paul Radisic is coming through in the Ford Mondeo.
20:30Look for number six.
20:31There he is.
20:33We're with him now.
20:35Ailes is ahead in the Nissan.
20:39And there's a problem ahead.
20:41There's a collision.
20:42That's it.
20:43Someone's hit Steve Robertson.
20:45Oh, it's Revalia.
20:47He really does not like Ford Mondeo's.
20:50Bidcliffe goes past.
20:51Rydell goes past.
20:52There is Harvey.
20:54And Steve Robertson has lost all those places through Dingledale.
21:01Clear ways.
21:03This is the battle between John Bidcliffe, number 44, 12th position, and Richard Rydell on the Volvo.
21:09We're inside the Volvo.
21:10He's recovering from a ten-second penalty.
21:14And he's going to go through on the inside and Panic and take Bidcliffe.
21:17He does it.
21:19Richard Rydell moves up to 12th position.
21:21We watch him from John Bidcliffe's Audi as they climb up towards Druids.
21:27Richard Rydell.
21:29Whole position expert.
21:30Oh, and Revalia coming in.
21:32It's not Roberto's day.
21:34In fact, it's not his year, actually.
21:36He's yet to win.
21:38And his BMW teammate Joe Winklehock's won four times this season.
21:42A bit of damage there, to put it mildly.
21:46And a not very happy Revalia talks to Charlie Lamb, the team boss.
21:52All the way back to Italy.
21:53All the way back to Italy, he's got to go now.
21:56And menu, superstar menu, Switzerland's finest is rubbing salt into the wounds.
22:01He's pulling away all the time in his Renault Laguna.
22:05And there's a tremendous gap now into Paddock.
22:09There's Winklehock.
22:12And you can see the gap between Winklehock and the battle for third as Will Hoy goes over
22:17the crest, followed by the Honda, the two Vauxhall Vectors, the Volvo, the Audi of Bieler.
22:23Head up to Druids.
22:26Now, Frank Bieler looks to me as though he's stuck in eighth position.
22:30Here he is, championship leader.
22:32He's only going to get three points for eighth place.
22:35His championship lead is shrinking all the time.
22:38And coming up to 30s, Hoy is third, Leslie is fourth, then the two Vectors.
22:46Kelvin Bird is in seventh place, and he's closed right up on the cars in front of him.
22:51We're with Thompson.
22:53That's his teammate, John Clelland ahead, and they're doing 140 miles an hour.
23:03Turn in at Hawthorne.
23:06Up to Westfield, the right-hander.
23:08Run downhill to Dingledale.
23:17Spend time.
23:19Leslie, Clelland, Thompson.
23:21Through the flick, Kelvin Bird.
23:23Here he is at the ball work.
23:24Into Sterling's, the left-hander.
23:26Down to Clearways to complete another lap.
23:29We're with John Clelland in fifth place.
23:32Up ahead is David Leslie's Honda Accord.
23:36This is Clearways.
23:37Now the Jack Brabham straight.
23:40Speed is building, building, building.
23:43Over the line.
23:44Into the lap.
23:46By Leslie, Clelland, Thompson.
23:48Into Panic.
23:49There's the Volvo.
23:51There's the Volvo.
23:52Kelvin Bird.
23:53Great drive.
23:56To Druids.
23:57Now remember, Kelvin Bird has been in hospital for a week.
24:00He's been doing nothing at home for two weeks.
24:02He's had very little testing.
24:03He's driving superbly.
24:05We're with John Clelland, Graham Hillbent.
24:07100 miles an hour.
24:08Into the Cooper straight.
24:10Left-handed.
24:11120 miles an hour.
24:12Up to 30.
24:13This is it.
24:15There is Clelland.
24:16The new Vauxhall Vectra.
24:18It was the Cavalier that he won the championship in last year.
24:22Look at this, though.
24:23James Cave, the white Honda, is flying past Patrick Watts in the Peugeot.
24:30We're with Watts.
24:32James Cave, I remind you, started 10 seconds back with a penalty.
24:37He is scything his way through the field.
24:40What a pity he wasn't able to start where he qualified.
24:45Pulling away from Watts' Peugeot.
24:48And up front, it is surely a double coming up for Almenu.
24:52He's in a class of his own today.
24:55Down to Clearways again is John Russell-designed.
24:59Renault Laguna is flying.
25:01They've had an engine problem for most of the season.
25:04They seem to have overcome that.
25:05They've got extra power.
25:07He comes out of Clearways, over the line to complete the lap.
25:11Now, let's see what the gap is.
25:13There is Menu.
25:14Look back for Winklehock.
25:16Three, four, five.
25:18Six seconds is the gap.
25:20Winklehock is beaten, and it looks to me as though Will Hoy is, too.
25:23He's not going to catch the BMW in front of him.
25:26Indeed, I wonder where...
25:27Oh, look at this!
25:29Because Robertson is going for mid-cliff.
25:31And he's hit him.
25:32Robertson goes off in the Port Mondeo.
25:34James Kaye makes up another place.
25:37Patrick Watts just misses the board.
25:39A phenomenal avoidance.
25:41And Binklip with a broken headlamp has now got James Kaye right up behind him.
25:46Super drive, this from James.
25:48Ahead of him, the battle for third continues.
25:51Hoy, Leslie, Cleland is fifth, number one, last year's champion.
25:56That's the gap between them.
25:58Thompson is in sixth position as they come up to Dingledale.
26:04Oh, oh, and Thompson nearly goes off.
26:06We're with Cleland now.
26:07That's Leslie in front of him.
26:08He's going off.
26:10Spins it.
26:11Cleland just misses him.
26:13Thompson goes through.
26:14Bird goes through.
26:16Leslie recovers.
26:17Bieler is coming up behind him.
26:19Here's a replay.
26:19We're with Leslie.
26:20That is Hoy ahead.
26:23Through the left, right.
26:24Turning for Sterling.
26:26And it's gone.
26:27It's gone.
26:27It's gone.
26:28He's lost it.
26:30There's Cleland.
26:31There's Thompson.
26:33There's Burt.
26:35And Leslie has lost three places.
26:38Menu, though, seven times a winner last year.
26:41Second in the championship last year.
26:44Comes through to start his last lap.
26:49Past his ecstatic mechanics.
26:53Into Paddock.
26:55What a drive this has been.
26:57He's back to last year's form.
27:00The car is looking superb.
27:03He's driving it magnificently.
27:05And a paddock.
27:08Cleland, Thompson and Burt have all moved up a place.
27:12And Kelvin Burt, the last of these three cars, is right up with the Vectors in front of him.
27:17There is nothing in it for fourth place.
27:20In fact, Kelvin Burt is pushing James Thompson very hard indeed as they go into Graham Hill Bend.
27:27He might just finish in fifth place.
27:30And for that matter, James Thompson might just finish in fourth place.
27:36But he'll have to be careful getting past John Cleland.
27:38They've had words in the past.
27:42Pilgrims.
27:43Hoy is third.
27:44Now, there is the gap.
27:45Vauxhall Vectra, Vauxhall Vectra, Volvo 850, Cleland, Thompson, Burt.
27:50Now, then there's another gap.
27:55And Frank Bieler in the Audi A4, the Quattro, has caught David Leslie.
28:00There they were in the background.
28:01You just saw them.
28:04Vauxhall Vauxhall, Volvo.
28:06There they are.
28:07There's Leslie in the battered Honda.
28:11Left front is battered.
28:12And Bieler is right up with him looking for more points.
28:15Alameda is almost home.
28:17Light splashing.
28:22Well done, Alameda.
28:2432 points today.
28:26Two pole positions.
28:27Two record laps.
28:29What a day of France hatch.
28:33Pelland finishes fourth.
28:34Thompson finishes fifth.
28:36Burt is sixth.
28:37But Alameda, an overjoyed Alameda is the winner.
28:41Back at Stirling's.
28:45Richard Kaye, the leading privateer, is catching Robertson's fawn.
28:50What's his Peugeot?
28:52Robertson has a go.
28:53Kaye is rocketing up on both of them.
28:55He's going to take Robertson on the outside as they come out of clearways.
28:59Now it's going to be the inside.
29:00He hits him.
29:01And Robertson spins.
29:03Bang, bang.
29:04Front, rear.
29:04Into the wall.
29:06And he's almost at the line.
29:08Is he going to get over it?
29:10Yes, there's the checkered flag.
29:12Robertson just finishes.
29:14But I think there'll be a stewards' inquiry about that.
29:18How times change.
29:19Another crushing win for Alameda.
29:21With the two Williams Renaults, sandwiching Joe Weichelhock's BMW.
29:26And a superb sixth for the returning Kelvin Burt.
29:29Frank Bieler, only eighth.
29:33Did I both you at the start or what?
29:35Well, I had a good start.
29:38Yeah, that's a good spin.
29:39I was on the outside.
29:40And Joe and David came and nearly pushed me to the paddock.
29:44Because I couldn't get into the inside.
29:46And I lost about 100 yards on Joe.
29:48And I had to overtake Lesley into here on the first lap.
29:50So we came through?
29:51Yeah, I got through.
29:52So that's okay.
29:53Frank Bieler may lead the championship by 44 points.
29:57But with 12 rounds still to go and 180 points still to be won,
30:02the Autotrader British Touring Car Championship is still wide open.
30:07So is the privateers' contest for the...
30:09Not least...
