Amongst some social media furore, we went out into Manchester to ask people if they trusted car park companies and if they believed that, in line with recent stories, they’re willing to allow drivers to be caught out if it leads to more money.

00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Cusenvertz and today I'm out on the streets of Manchester asking people about car parks and specifically whether the owners of some operated car parks make life difficult for drivers on purpose. Here in Manchester in particular, a TikToker named Zoe Bread has made quite a bit of fuss over this over the last week or so, so we're asking people what they think.
00:19Yeah, I try and avoid car parks at all costs to be fair because they're extortionate anyway and yeah things like that happening, you just can't trust them when they're private. The thing is they need to get better public services, tram services and stuff around Manchester so it would encourage people to still come in and not necessarily need to bring them home.
00:37Sometimes I think it might not have been done maliciously, but if it's a happy accident, I'll let it go in order to get that money coming in. But I think privately owned anything is a bit crazy at the minute. Northern Rail owned by a German company, the worst train service I've ever known and they've just put in new advertising boards, electronic advertising boards in the trains. So it just shows you that the priorities aren't with the consumer.
