We asked: "Is it OK for car parks to be 'pay on app' only?"
Transcript
00:00Do you think it's acceptable for car parks to only take payment on apps?
00:05I'm not too keen on that idea actually. I quite like to put the cash in. I'm not very good with the apps. I always get it wrong.
00:12Do you use them yourself?
00:14I have done. I've got one or two on my phone but generally they go wrong so we end up not bothering or we find one that takes cash.
00:24Do you think it's acceptable for car parks to only take payment on apps?
00:28No. I wish they would do parking meters because that is a lot easier. People have got change, not everybody's got a smartphone.
00:35So I think it's a very new generational thing but for a lot of old people that might not be very handy with the phone,
00:42maybe just going back to old payment systems is a lot easier than it is currently.
00:48Do you think it's acceptable for car parks to only take payment on apps?
00:53No, because most people don't know how to do it with an app. I didn't know how to have my daughter doing it.
00:59It's for a few people. We don't usually have to ask our kids to do it for us.
01:03You have to download an app, then you have to pay. It's easier to just get some coins out for it.
01:08Yeah, it is. That's what we say.
01:11Do you think it's acceptable for car parks to only take payment on apps?
01:15No, absolutely not. Why not?
01:19I can use apps but not everybody can. You often don't get a signal. Cash should be available.
01:26Yeah, definitely there should be other options. I mean, I'm a right technophobe, honestly.
01:32So I'd probably struggle. I know it's supposed to be easy but like you say, we go out to Peak District quite a bit and there's often no signal.
01:41So then you're stuck and you don't want to come back and get a ticket because it's not your fault you're not being able to pay.
01:47So yeah, I think there should be other options. Definitely.
01:50Cash? Definitely cash?
01:51Yeah.
01:52Or card as a minimum?
01:53Yeah.
