00:00I guess you could say Todd is a lot like Bruce Wayne.
00:02It's not who he is underneath, but what he does that defines him.
00:05Here's a look at the brand new McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse.
00:08Batman Begins Batman.
00:10Batman Begins Batman Begins
00:40made of brittle graphite, although it's probably still not a good idea to be hitting this plastic figure with a hammer.
00:45Let's take, though, the tape measure and see how tall the new Batman Begins Batman stands.
00:49We're also going to be bringing in a couple of Batman in shortly for comparisons,
00:52but in the meantime, yeah, he's going to be about seven and a quarter inches in height,
00:56or roughly 18 centimeters tall.
00:59As for a couple of other costumed characters, here's what Batman looks like with the Dark Knight Trilogy Batman.
01:04Yet, though, at the time that this guy got released, unfortunately they were still using plastic capes,
01:07so he's relegated into plastic capes.
01:09I'm glad, though, that we waited the while that we did,
01:11because the Batman Begins Batman is sporting now a fabric cape.
01:14Boy, does it ever look nice.
01:16What also looks nice, though, is that we also did get ourselves a Batman Begins Scarecrow.
01:20Really, when you think about it, though, we didn't get a whole lot of other Batman Begins characters.
01:24We are also, though, getting a Platinum Edition release of this guy right here,
01:27just sporting the suit and wearing the regular sack mask,
01:31which we will be looking at in an upcoming review.
01:32Outside of that, though, really, when you think about it,
01:34there's no real other characters that we've gotten from Batman Begins.
01:36I do hope, though, at some point we get ourselves a Liam Neeson's Descartes,
01:41or maybe the imposter Ra's al Ghul.
01:43That would certainly be nice as well.
01:45Not that this guy belongs at all in this universe, at least he doesn't just yet,
01:48but here's also what the figure, because I've only just recently looked at him as well,
01:52here's what he also looks like with the 1989 Michael Keaton Batman.
01:56Fails.
01:56Batman doesn't do too bad for himself when it comes to accessories.
01:59The figure, first of all, does come with a display stand.
02:01What? You're not going to look at the trading card first?
02:02No, I wanted to mix things up just a little bit to keep you guys on your toes.
02:06Yeah, speaking of toes, though, the toes and all the rest of Batman's feet
02:09can actually attach onto the neighboring peg.
02:11And backing up even further from that, the figure does also have the branding DC logo down.
02:14Boy, we're all doing things backwards this review around.
02:18The display stand itself actually does look like it's a little bit lighter of a color.
02:21I'm just going to grab one off to the side here, you can see.
02:24Yeah, I always mention this from time to time,
02:26that sometimes the plastics do change,
02:27and it does result in a slightly more lighter black display stand.
02:31On that, though, they're exactly the same build of,
02:32I was going to say build of body,
02:34but clearly it's not a body this time around.
02:36The same make of mold.
02:38The figure now, going back to the trading card,
02:40does come included with one that actually is the poster art of Batman Begins.
02:44At one point, though, I had this poster.
02:46I also had a couple of ones from The Dark Knight.
02:49Just by just mixing things around in my collection space,
02:51in my office, I've sort of now moved around some of the posters,
02:54and I have retired a couple of these Batman Begins posters.
02:57I still have a Joker one from Dark Knight.
02:59I don't know if I'm still going to keep that one up,
03:01or I'm going to change that at some point.
03:02Does anybody really care?
03:03Nobody really cares.
03:05I do hope, though, that you care that on the back of this,
03:07the real name, though, listed is Bruce Wayne,
03:09in case you didn't already know that.
03:11The read-up at least has more to do with Batman Begins,
03:13and it's not just some generic read-up about Bruce Wayne in general.
03:17Put the card off to the side.
03:18The figure does also come included with some swappable hands.
03:21You may already take note, though,
03:23that the figure does have a closed fist on one side,
03:25a gripping hand on the other.
03:26That is the way that he came out of the packaging.
03:28Technically, though, he does also come included with another closed fist
03:31that would be going on the adjacent end of his body,
03:33so it would be the mirror flip to this one.
03:35Not really, though, on the other mirror flip,
03:37but the figure does also come included with a hand for with multiple Batarangs.
03:41Don't try to pull any of these out, by the way.
03:43They're all molded to the hand.
03:45I do actually like that they included a Batarang hand like this.
03:48Don't worry, though.
03:49Well, he does have just a standalone version of the Batarang, too,
03:51so if you don't like variety like this,
03:53he has just one of them we'll work with.
03:55It's kind of neat, too, because not only can he use these as weapons,
03:58but if he has them in between his fingers like this,
04:00he can sort of use it for close contact.
04:03Don't worry, though.
04:04You're not going to be making much contact with your skin.
04:06These don't hurt at all.
04:07I mean, I guess if you keep consistently doing this, stop that.
04:11Eventually, it may just hurt.
04:13The figure does also come included, as I already mentioned,
04:15the regular Batarang,
04:17which to look at this Batarang
04:18and then look at the slightly smaller ones.
04:19Batman actually had, I think,
04:20a couple of different sizes of the Batarang,
04:21so this one is clearly a little bit...
04:23It's the bigger boy of the other Batarangs.
04:26This one doesn't fold up at all.
04:27I mean, it does fold up,
04:28but it's not going to go back the way it was.
04:30You've just essentially just broken your Batarang.
04:32Congratulations.
04:34You just broke your Batarang.
04:35Everybody look.
04:36This guy just broke his bat.
04:37No, stop that.
04:38This Batarang does, though, fit into his hands
04:40with the hand that he has right now.
04:42Basically, just take yourself the Batarang.
04:43This hand, by the way, is going to do double duties
04:45because not only is it going to be holding
04:46the following accessory,
04:48which does fit in his hand pretty good,
04:50but it's also going to be holding his grapple gun.
04:52Wait, what?
04:53He comes in with a grapple gun?
04:54Yeah, he does.
04:55The actual grapple gun, unfortunately, though,
04:57doesn't have much in the way of paint.
04:58What they've only really done
04:59is just mold it in the gold plastic,
05:01and then I guess they just called it a day.
05:03They've packed up shop,
05:04they turn off the lights for the day,
05:05and they've all left the factory.
05:07Somebody right now is with a black paintbrush saying,
05:09Hey, guys, I thought we were going to be painting these things,
05:11and everybody's already gone.
05:12And they've gone to the pubs
05:13and gone drinking, I don't know, whatever.
05:15But yeah, the actual grapple gun,
05:17unfortunately, doesn't have much in the way of real paint,
05:19but it does, though, fit into his hands.
05:20So again, we can go ahead
05:21and go back to the same hand well.
05:23I mean, obviously,
05:24we're not going to be changing things at all
05:25when it comes to the hands.
05:26Just get yourself the grapple gun.
05:28Fit into his hand.
05:29From time to time, though,
05:30it may pop off the peg.
05:32There we go.
05:32Just pop it back into his...
05:33There we go.
05:34Now Batman can be displayed with the grapple gun.
05:36You could probably, yeah,
05:37I admittingly do a lot better of a job than I just did.
05:40I don't want to say that I phoned it in
05:41like the paint department,
05:42but I probably could have admittingly
05:44done a little bit better of a job than I just did.
05:46Anyways, let's go ahead
05:47and take the grapple gun
05:48and move it off to the side.
05:50Let's get a closer look
05:50at Batman Begins, Batman,
05:51which I will admit
05:53is the better of the two...
05:54Two better costumes.
05:56Between this one
05:56and the Dark Knight Returns
05:57and the Dark Knight Rises,
05:59essentially really this...
06:00I know like the Batman
06:01basically has a very similar...
06:03I think they may have really
06:04even tweaked it a couple of times.
06:05Just tweaked a few little small details
06:08between Dark Knight
06:09and Dark Knight Rises.
06:11When really though,
06:12when you're looking at the two bodies,
06:13I actually prefer that Batman Begins
06:15because it's a little more seamless.
06:16It has less mobility.
06:18I know that's one of the...
06:19Even really the things
06:20that Bruce Wayne mentions
06:21at the very beginning to Lucius Fox,
06:22he needs more mobility.
06:23He can't still...
06:24Even though he can move a lot better
06:26than Michael Keaton's Batman,
06:27he doesn't have though the mobility
06:28until eventually he adopts this suit here.
06:31It's just too fragmented for me.
06:33It's made about too many
06:34different various panels.
06:35I like the seamless look
06:36of a more rubber suit.
06:37So I like the Batman Begins body
06:39just a little bit more.
06:40Some may like the look of Nolan's cowl.
06:43I mean, it makes for certainly
06:44a much smaller mouthpiece
06:45when it comes to Batman.
06:47Yet for such a small opening
06:48for his mouth,
06:49he certainly does make
06:50quite a bad noise.
06:53The head sculpt does look
06:54quite a lot like him.
06:56I mean, I would imagine though
06:57if we do eventually get ourselves...
06:58I think we did get ourselves
06:59a Bruce Wayne,
07:00but it was the Bruce Wayne
07:00from Dark Knight.
07:02I would though imagine,
07:03even though I don't have yet
07:04that figure,
07:04I really should really
07:05track that one down.
07:06It's a nice looking figure
07:07even though, again,
07:07it's using the Dark Knight body.
07:09I would think though
07:10that you probably would be able
07:11to detach this head
07:12and swap it out
07:13with that Bruce Wayne
07:13if you wanted to have
07:14an uncowled Bruce Wayne.
07:16And also too,
07:17when we eventually look
07:18at the Scarecrow,
07:19the Platinum Edition,
07:20you could also use
07:20that Batman too.
07:21And I would imagine
07:22borrow off the head
07:23and use it within
07:24the suited body.
07:25Why am I pointing over here?
07:26It's technically over there.
07:27I haven't yet opened it.
07:28For the rest of Batman's body though,
07:29it's sticking more
07:30to the matte black,
07:31which is actually
07:32one thing I really like
07:33about the suit.
07:34It's more, again,
07:34like seamless.
07:35So while it still has
07:36the Bat Emblem
07:37across the front there,
07:38I mean,
07:38it doesn't really show
07:39necessarily that this suit
07:41is made of many panels.
07:42It's actually just
07:42kind of one consistent suit.
07:44We sort of see Batman
07:45also spraying across it.
07:46I think we also suggest,
07:47I think we've also assumed
07:49that what he's spraying
07:50across it is to mask
07:51his heat signature.
07:52It's not just concealing
07:53because he wants
07:54everything to look black.
07:56Everything basically
07:56on this figure
07:57is black,
07:58although there are
07:59some variances to that.
08:00So while the majority
08:01of his body
08:01is being made
08:02of the matte black plastic,
08:04they've gone then in there
08:05and they've painted
08:05off the gauntlets.
08:06They've also painted
08:07down below the boots
08:08in a more shinier black paint.
08:09So it does break it up
08:10rather nicely.
08:11What also does break it up
08:12nicely though is now
08:13he also has the gold
08:14utility belt,
08:15which I gotta admit
08:16does look nice.
08:18It doesn't hold anything,
08:19obviously,
08:20but it does have
08:20sort of suggested pockets
08:22that you would think
08:22that Batman would probably
08:23have some ball bearings
08:24in there,
08:24some other bat bombs,
08:26gas capsules.
08:27Not really much
08:28of anything else.
08:28And of course,
08:29I think in the movie
08:30he would have attached
08:31essentially the grapple gun
08:32on the back of it,
08:32but there's no real place
08:33to attach these.
08:35I guess they probably,
08:35considering that the cape
08:36is covering it at all,
08:38had they maybe put
08:39a hole right here,
08:40maybe they put
08:40a very small peg.
08:42Am I wishful thinking
08:43by now?
08:43They could have found
08:44a place to maybe attach
08:45this on the back
08:46of his body.
08:47Okay, let's talk a little bit
08:48about his fabric cape.
08:49The fabric cape actually
08:50isn't that much different
08:51from the one that we got
08:52from Michael Keaton's.
08:53In fact, actually,
08:54I'm just going to grab
08:55Michael Keaton's cape.
08:55But it's a similar kind
08:57of smooth material.
08:58Yet the difference,
08:59though, is not just
09:00the case that it's,
09:01well, this one is a lot
09:02wider of a cape
09:03to get that wingspan going.
09:04But this one also
09:05doesn't have the pockets.
09:06Because it doesn't have
09:07the pockets, obviously,
09:08it now benefits from
09:09having a wire built
09:10into the frame of it.
09:10The wire is only really
09:12running on this side
09:13and on this side here.
09:14There's no wire in the middle.
09:15I really don't feel
09:16it necessarily needs it either.
09:17So if you want to like
09:18to have dynamic poses
09:19for your character,
09:20you can certainly do that.
09:21I mean, I'm just only just,
09:23not that it gets,
09:23I'm not phoning it in.
09:24I'm not phoning it in.
09:25But just to kind of show you guys,
09:26you can do some manipulation
09:28for the cape.
09:29So you want to have
09:29Batman's cape kind of looking
09:30like it's blowing in the wind.
09:31You can pull that off.
09:32Speaking of the cape, though,
09:34one thing I couldn't help
09:35but though notice
09:35when it came to my release
09:36is getting them out
09:37of the packaging.
09:37I noticed that there were
09:38these line marks right here.
09:39I don't know if that's left behind
09:41from the zip ties,
09:42the little ties, of course,
09:43that keep figures
09:43into their plastic prisons.
09:45There's a line right here
09:46and oh no, wouldn't you know it,
09:48there's a line right here as well.
09:50I think I might be able
09:51to go in there and clean this
09:53but I kind of wanted
09:53to leave it the way it was
09:54just to show you guys
09:55that out of the packaging,
09:56there was a little problem
09:57with my cape.
09:58Hopefully there's no problems
09:59with yours.
10:00For the figure's articulation, though,
10:02Batman does have
10:03surprisingly more mobility
10:04than you would think
10:05in his head.
10:05The head, in fact,
10:06does rotate all the way around.
10:07You can have the bat head
10:09looking up and looking down
10:10and you can also move it
10:11back and forth as well.
10:13The upper torso for Batman
10:14does have a full rotation
10:15via the ball joint.
10:16Further from that, though,
10:17the figure does also have
10:18a ball joint at the base
10:19of the abdomen.
10:20Yeah, yeah.
10:21So you can also move that
10:22all the way around as well.
10:23The figure's arms,
10:24I wouldn't say normally
10:25would be able to rotate
10:26easily all the way around.
10:28He does technically
10:28have a shoulder pad,
10:30but the shoulder pad
10:31is attached here.
10:32So instead of not having it here
10:33where that obviously
10:34would get in the way of things,
10:35having it where they've placed it,
10:37at least allows the arm
10:38to rotate all the way around.
10:40Hinging the arm outward, though,
10:41you may kind of want
10:42to go in there first.
10:43Lift the shoulder pad up
10:45and then Batman would at least
10:46be able to pull off
10:47a 90 degree angle bend.
10:49The figure does also have
10:49a swivel in the bicep,
10:51which you also believe
10:52Batman does have
10:52a double hinge in his elbow.
10:54Hands rotate
10:54all the way around.
10:56Skipping over, obviously,
10:57the abdomen,
10:58because we've already
10:58had a look at that.
10:59Batman's legs seem to be
11:00on ratcheted joints again,
11:02so you can get about that
11:03far of a split
11:03for Batman's legs.
11:05Ouch!
11:06The legs, yeah,
11:07move forward.
11:08Would you also believe
11:09they also go back?
11:09They only go back
11:10about that far, though.
11:11He hits the back
11:12of his back behind.
11:14The figure does have
11:15a little bit of a swivel
11:16there at the top of the thigh.
11:17Not much, though.
11:17Double hinge on the knee.
11:19Not much, really,
11:19in the way of the articulation
11:21here for the calf,
11:22because, like,
11:22the boot is essentially
11:23just the same sculpting
11:24as the rest of his lower leg.
11:25He does, however, though,
11:26have an ankle pivot,
11:28an ankle rocker,
11:29and, yeah,
11:30the figure does also have
11:31toe articulation as well.
11:33Being that this is my favorite
11:34of the Nolan Trilogy suits,
11:35I'm actually glad
11:36that we waited
11:37a little bit longer
11:38to get this release.
11:39It meant, then,
11:39when this one
11:40was eventually released,
11:42we got the benefit
11:42of actually having
11:43ourselves a fabric cape.
11:45I'm now singing
11:46the praises of fabric capes.
11:47Look at this guy.
11:48Look at this guy.
11:49For a while,
11:49I was really advocating
11:50that plastic capes
11:51was the way to go.
11:52I mean, chalk it really
11:53more up to the fact
11:53that when I was a collector
11:54years ago,
11:56everything for me
11:56was plastic capes.
11:57Every superhero
11:58tend to have plastic capes,
12:00so I sort of followed suit,
12:01and then following suit
12:02with all these figures.
12:03I just felt that
12:04plastic capes
12:04was the way to go.
12:05Now seeing, though,
12:06the benefit of fabric capes.
12:08I mean, like,
12:08look at how good
12:09the fabric cape flows
12:10on this figure's body.
12:11I do now wish
12:12that we are going to
12:13be getting ourselves
12:13another Dark Knight.
12:14Maybe a Dark Knight
12:15rises Batman
12:16with a slightly different
12:17deco and now
12:18a fabric cape.
12:19That would certainly
12:20fit the bill,
12:20but in the meantime,
12:21though, I'm glad
12:22that we got a Batman
12:22Begins with a fabric cape.
12:24It finishes off
12:25what I feel is still
12:26the better of the suits
12:27from the Nolan Trilogy.
12:29While the beginning
12:29of Bats didn't have
12:30a Joker just yet,
12:31we did rely on
12:32Descartes or
12:33Ra's al Ghul
12:33and Scarecrow.
12:35It did have,
12:35I still feel,
12:36to be a better-looking
12:37Bats suits,
12:38while not being
12:38practical or functional.
12:40Clearly, that's the reasoning
12:41why Bruce Wayne
12:41needed the upgrade.
12:42I was really, though,
12:43felt that the Dark Knight
12:44and Rise's suit
12:45was a downgrade.
12:46It was more practical,
12:48and I get that,
12:48but it certainly lost
12:50a little bit of the look
12:51of what Batman needed
12:52to be in the first place.
12:53I mean, while the mobility
12:54was a little lacking
12:55on this suit,
12:56at least Batman
12:57looked more the part.
12:58The emblem still
12:59on the front of his chest,
13:00the sleeker look
13:01of the cowl and the cape,
13:02it really did make
13:03for a much more
13:04complete-looking
13:05cape crusader.
13:06Now, this one does have,
13:07of course,
13:07the benefit of the
13:08cloth cape,
13:09so while being
13:10the downgraded suit,
13:11it has at least
13:12the upgrade
13:12of a fabric cape
13:14now instead.
13:15From his accessory count,
13:16I think it's still high.
13:17He has the grapple gun,
13:18he has the batarang,
13:19which you can see
13:19currently in his hand
13:20right now,
13:21and he also has a hand
13:22that has multiple batarangs,
13:24although, again,
13:24none of them
13:24can be removed.
13:26Having, though,
13:26the fabric cape
13:27is by far my favorite
13:28thing about this figure,
13:29and again,
13:30I was thinking
13:30it was well worth
13:31waiting the time
13:32that we did
13:33to finally get a Batman
13:34with a better-looking cape.
13:36In the end, though,
13:36again,
13:37between this one
13:37and the one
13:38from Dark Knight,
13:39I still hope, though,
13:40that we're going to be
13:41getting a trilogy Batman
13:42where it's going to
13:42have a fabric cape,
13:44but for me,
13:44this is so far
13:45the favorite
13:46of the Nolan films
13:47that we've gotten,
13:48and I'm glad
13:48that we finally can say
13:49that we have a Batman
13:50Begins Batman
13:51on the shelf.
13:52What do you guys
13:52think of this figure?
13:53Let me know down below
13:53in the comment section,
13:54and I guess probably
13:55a better question
13:55to be asking you guys,
13:56between the Batman Begins suit
13:58and the one that we get
13:59in Dark Knight and Rises,
14:01which do you think
14:01is the better look
14:02to Batman?
14:03No, I'm not just talking
14:04about the practicality
14:05and how functioning
14:06the suit is,
14:07but just from the aesthetic,
14:08from the look of it,
14:09which do you think
14:10is the better look
14:10to Batman?
14:11Let me know what you think.
14:12If you guys also,
14:13in the meantime,
14:14did enjoy this video,
14:14do it a solid,
14:15throw it a like.
14:16You guys want to stick around
14:17for more so?
14:18Yeah, I hope so.
14:19We may be wrapping up,
14:20though, right now,
14:20at least Batman's beginning,
14:22but that isn't,
14:23though, the end
14:24of what we're going
14:24to be looking at
14:24for the Nolan Batman-verse,
14:26because there's going
14:27to be one other figure
14:27that's going to be
14:28coming your way,
14:28and I sort of tipped my hat
14:29early into this review
14:30of what that figure might be.
14:32That review will be
14:33coming up this week as well.
14:34So, as always,
14:35thanks for watching.
14:36See you guys next time.
14:47See you next time.
