00:00well hello how are you sir i'm good this is the first time i remember meeting you which is crazy
00:04because you're a legend you are been around a while i've been only i've only been a couple
00:10years i've only been yeah you don't look a day over 30 i've only been at x2 for five years so
00:15i feel like when i meet somebody who's been doing it so long who's a legend in this industry i feel
00:19very fortunate so thanks for stopping by and chit chat with us you flatter me uh it's a it's a
00:25pleasure love getting to meet the folks that are the the life's blood of country music you guys
00:32at radio but i mean without you we wouldn't connect with the fans yeah it's important people talk about
00:39radio tours man those radio tours i probably did five or six of them and loved every minute of it
00:45man that's what's different about country and other formats i was literally just in nashville
00:50obviously crs is very famous and i'm on the crs agenda committee so we had our planning
00:54sessions last week and we there's obviously in country there's so much crossover that's
01:00happening right now it's like the biggest hottest format right and so it was a big discussion and
01:04like one of the main points that a lot of a lot of the record executives and radio were talking about
01:10like country country is such a different format and like making sure that these people want to come
01:15in understand that there's like a responsibility you know to the fans and to the community and to
01:21the radio stations that like there's no one that does it like the country artist where do you think
01:27that comes from you think that it was just this tradition that people still hold true to
01:31it's it's supposed to be i mean it's about when i'm asked my favorite thing about what i do it's yeah
01:39it's the people yeah yeah the people it's about relating to the people and the songs relating to the
01:46people it's it's not about me at all if i had to go on stage every night and y'all sit there and i'm
01:52going to sing some songs at you just listen it wouldn't work i'd be a nervous wreck for one thing
01:59right i want to sing songs that everybody wants to sing with me right if i can do that then i can
02:05be around for a while well it's always been my goal it's the people and caring about each other
02:11it's community it's friends family and the good lord if that ain't in country music then it just
02:16kind of we just had a church service here ladies but it's also cool when you talk to artists and
02:23like i said you know you've are a legend in this industry that your songs maybe start about you but
02:29then it's almost they take on a new life when you look into the crowd and you see how different songs
02:34means different things other people and that's kind of exactly what you're saying like it takes on
02:38this whole new life depending on how people interpret it that must feel still very powerful
02:43even at this point it's unbelievable it the greatest compliment you can get about a song is when somebody
02:49says that's my song yeah that's me and my son that's me and my wife kids friend um that's everything
02:59man that's how songs remain relevant yeah is if they do that we we um
03:06we're about to release a new album of music and in kind of leaning into that i went in and did some
03:15kind of stripped down acoustic kind of but just some different versions yeah of some of the hits
03:23and we just kind of put it out there social media places and the comments put tears in my eyes
03:29people tell me how important this song was um what it means to them and it's it's blown me away
03:37how relevant watching you and uh we've got some more coming uh farmer's daughter was one of the
03:45yeah i think what i said was this song didn't go number one yeah um but the listeners made it feel
03:56like that yeah it's a bigger hit than song a lot of songs that go number one a hundred percent and the
04:02you know that's such an industry term number one and obviously when you get a number one it's amazing
04:06but a lot of times sometimes it doesn't go number one that doesn't mean that it's not a massive song
04:12that touches so many people that people are going to continue to listen to years and years later
04:16that's the most amazing thing about music is that i mean the beach boys played last night and there
04:21was people 21 years old losing their mind to the beach boys like that's the power of music you know
04:26um all right let's remaining relevant yeah so all right let's go fishing so this is just to you know
04:32we talked we're talking deep so what we're gonna do is i'm gonna give you a fish do you fish in real
04:37life of course okay when was the last time you went you're gonna go some ocean fishing here are you
04:41going what are you doing after this are you going home it's oh we're going to north carolina then
04:47we're going home okay good all right so you i'm gonna turn this on that's cool i love the turtle okay
04:52so then you pick a fish and then we're gonna ask a question
04:55nice all right purple purple all right let's turn the turtle off
05:05there we go okay so here's my cards
05:10no you get to pick it you get to pick the card oh what you want to ask they're just like fun silly
05:16questions so people kind of have fun with you so you you pick it
05:19i can't promise you there's a jackpot on those cards
05:23all right so it says oh are you a morning or a night person i feel like this is an easy one for
05:30rock stars oh wait you need this morning person night person morning you are even though you're a
05:36rock star yeah i'm all morning man wait so you get off state it's late and what you go to bed and
05:42then you wake up at what time yeah you know when you're on the road for several shows yeah
05:47might sleep in a little bit but i'm still gonna wake up at
05:53four no matter what oh yeah do you not need a lot of sleep uh sure i do but like no i'll take a nap
06:04okay nap score okay but yeah all right i'm up at four no alarm clock pretty much every day wait here's
06:09one more fun question are you a restaurant person or do you cook cook you do yeah do you have a famous
06:14recipe i do simple stuff i'm a griller yeah grill my wife my wife can throw down can she
06:21she'll say she can't but she can't she can't i'm a griller like i love that's a very man thing to say
06:27yeah brisket right like that all right well this is very fun this is amazing feel honored to talk to
06:33you obviously you're hanging out here wait do you get that the jersey shore is part of philly did you
06:37get that or did somebody have to tell you because it's confusing people like wait you're philly's
06:41country station why are we at the ocean i did yes okay because i like to explain it to people
06:49here you know through the years and so you could you made educated yeah because jelly roll was here
06:56last year and he's like i don't understand why i'm at the ocean and you philly people are here
07:01and so i'm always like oh it's because it's just new jersey split up in two things it's either philly
07:06or new york and we're in philly territory now it's awesome i know hospitality here is insane good
07:11it rivals anywhere in the country look at that true southern hospitality right here in philly
