00:00It's a new year, and for Bad Pig Customs, something wicked this way comes.
00:30A new bike has arrived, and will soon undergo a transformation, because a new season of the Call Sam Chopper Shop has begun.
00:42Welcome to Season 3 of the Call Sam Chopper Shop, the show where we customize a bike, someone wins a bike, while helping homeless vets in the process.
01:07That's right, and before we get into the motorcycle mayhem, we're putting the spotlight on the organization you're supporting, Volunteers of America, Michigan.
01:19Nestled in the heart of the Motor City is Volunteers of America, Michigan's main base of operations.
01:25And joining them today are a couple of familiar faces.
01:28Hey guys, how you doing?
01:30All right, we're okay, Dan.
01:31It's good to see you.
01:32Good to see you guys, what's going on?
01:34Hey, so what brings Yvette into VOA?
01:36Well, it's generally one of three reasons.
01:38Usually they need a hot meal sometimes, sometimes guys need a roof on their head, and then some people just need to make a whole new start.
01:46Well, hey, Arvind, it's the third season of the Chopper Shop, and you know people donate money for the chopper and stuff.
01:51How about you give us a tour around, so we see where actually this money actually goes?
01:55Glad to.
01:56So let's start this way.
01:58At VOAMI, vets gain access to facilities like laundry, computers with internet, and many other amenities, not to mention the basic necessities.
02:07So guys, this is the kitchen.
02:10You get a sense of serenity here, because you can relax, eat your meals, watch a good movie, and you should be familiar with this, Mark, Call Sam Kitchen.
02:21Whoa, looky here.
02:22I've seen this on TV.
02:23Mark, care to elaborate the Call Sam Kitchen?
02:26We've been involved with the Call Sam Kitchen for five years.
02:29That's how we originally got to know VOA and the people here who are amazing.
02:32Yeah, and it's a great kitchen to have whole, healthy meals, you know, and that's important to a vet when you're coming in off the street.
02:40So we've covered the food.
02:42You mentioned shelter.
02:43How about that?
02:44Oh, we'll be glad to show you right this way, fellas.
02:46All right.
02:47This facility offers 60 beds for vets in need of temporary housing, as well as counseling services to help them get back on their feet.
02:55Like here, we have the lodging.
02:57Also, counselor's office right here.
02:59And then we have our basic rooms that's ideal for, like, two vets.
03:05You got your bed, the desk, locker space, view of the street.
03:09These are comfortable.
03:10Yeah.
03:11I think this is more comfortable than my bed.
03:14Yeah, can you imagine a guy that's been on the street come in and get this kind of comfort?
03:18It's great.
03:19Come on.
03:20We got some touring to do.
03:22Gosh.
03:23How are you?
03:24Hey, Mark.
03:24Good to see you.
03:25Hi, Andrew.
03:25How are you?
03:26Nice to see you, too.
03:26Nice to see you.
03:27Yeah, Andrew, we already heard from Arvind from a perspective of somebody that's been through the program.
03:33Through that how an administrative part, does it really help the VOA?
03:36Well, the Call Sam Chopper Shop helps support VOA by providing funding to support our transitional housing services,
03:43our rapid rehousing services, homeless prevention, employment services, and our newly launched suicide prevention program.
03:50Tell us how the Call Sam Chopper Shop show has helped VOA in the work you do.
03:55It helps bring further awareness to our programs, and it helps reach other individuals that can support us either through a monetary donation, volunteer opportunities, or just be more aware of what veterans need here in Michigan.
04:08Well, thank you for showing us around.
04:09Just amazing.
04:10Appreciate it.
04:11We're so grateful to you and everything you did.
04:12We're grateful to you guys.
04:14Those donations help us get back on our feet in a lot of ways people don't understand, and the vets are really appreciative of that.
04:21Yeah, it's a real honor to do this together.
04:23With the renewed reason for this season, we head back to Bad Pig.
04:33Uh-oh.
04:34Not today.
04:36With the new bike in the shop, Dave can assess the good, bad, and ugly on this beastly bagger.
04:43This is a 2010 Street Glide.
04:48Kind of like the handlebars.
04:49Nice headlight.
04:52LEDs.
04:54Exhaust.
04:55Terrible.
04:55Yeah, it'll burn the bag.
04:56A lot of fire coming out the end of that.
04:58If you would have extended it a little more, it would have been past this.
05:02It probably wouldn't have burned it up.
05:03What kind of rider is this bike for, Dave?
05:06From what we've built in the past, this is more of a touring bike.
05:09It's more comfortable.
05:10It's got a radio.
05:11This is what's more desirable for two people to get on it and go for a trip somewhere.
05:16It's got a few miles on it, but after cleaning it up, tires, chrome, paint job, we'll freshen up the motor a little bit.
05:24It should be a nice little bike to raffle.
05:26This year, we're going to go from mild to wild.
05:30I'm going to set it better myself.
05:32Well, there you have it.
05:33The new motorcycle is in Dave's creative hands and customization is underway.
05:38I think people are going to go hog wild for this bike, and I got to say, it was great to speak with Arvid Sam and see the VOAMI headquarters firsthand.
05:47Definitely.
05:48The raffle is underway.
05:50You can get your tickets by going to CallSam.com and follow the links.
05:54Thanks for watching.
05:55We'll see you next time on the Call Sam Chopper Shop.
