00:00Just three days after the run-off elections in Ecuador, the President for the Citizens' Revolution Movement, Luisa González, revealed Thursday's new irregularities of the electoral process held Sunday.
00:22A Russian President Biden report met Thursday with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamir bin Hamad al-Dhani, who is in Moscow for an official visit.
00:34The Palestinian Movement in Hamas informed Thursday that it is ready to begin negotiations on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages in exchange for the withdrawal of Israeli troops.
00:48Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from The Result Studios in Caracas, Venezuela. We begin with the news. Stay with us.
01:00In just three days after the run-off elections in Ecuador, the President for the Citizens' Revolution Movement, Luisa González, revealed Thursday's new irregularities of the electoral process held Sunday.
01:22The González team denounced the existence of tallies without signatures, out-of-voter registers, and more votes than voters among the most serious irregularities found.
01:32The team urged the National Electoral Council to publish the signed tallies and to conduct a public hearing to audit the results.
01:39On the other hand, González accused Daniel Novoa of taking advantage of his position as head of state, while he was a presidential candidate, issuing decrees and official appearances for the benefit of his campaign.
01:51And Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince, remained tense after a day of rallies and threats of violence.
02:01The demonstrators urged the government and the transitional presidential council on Wednesday to improve the city's security in the face of the wave of terror by gangs controlling more than 85% of the capital.
02:16The protesters blocked streets and roads leading into key city areas and burned tires and set up barricades.
02:22Public activities were suspended in communities and sons not yet in the hands of the gangs, where demonstrators demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Ali Stidiye, Transitioner Council, and of its General Director, Ramon Ormille.
02:41And the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti received additional personnel with the arrival of new agents from Jamaica.
02:48The reinforcement will attempt to curb the violent attacks from criminal groups that have generated a serious disruption of the social, political, and economic life in the country.
02:57This is the second Jamaican contingent that joins the troops commanded by Kenya in this Caribbean nation.
03:03The first landing took place at the Tucson Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince, the country's capital, and was comprised of 24 soldiers and policemen who landed on September 12, 2024.
03:15In other topics in the United States, two people were killed and six were wounded after an active shooter opened fire on the Florida State University campus in Tallahassee Thursday.
03:30FSU Police Chief Jason Trumbauer said a gunman opened fire near the University Student Union at approximately 11.50 a.m. local time, striking multiple people and sending students fleeing for cover.
03:42He also stated that campus police responded immediately, neutralized, and apprehended the suspect.
03:47Trumbauer declared that two people were pronounced deceased and six others were taken to a local hospital, including the suspected shooter.
03:56The two fatal victims were not students.
03:59Leon County Sheriff Walter Abniel identified the alleged gunman as 20-year-old Phoenix Igner, a student at FSU.
04:08Igner's mother is a long-time Leon County Sheriff deputy, and one of her weapons was found at the scene.
04:15And Venezuelans under the temporary protected status in the United States accused Secretary of State Marco Rubio of treason on Wednesday after he endorsed the termination of the program.
04:29In this regard, the head of the Venezuelan-American caucus, Adelis Ferro, asserted that the Secretary of State has requested Homeland Security Secretary Christine Noem through a letter to terminate the TPS for over 600,000 Venezuelans.
04:44Ferro stated the petition was a rude awakening for them since in March 2022, Rubio had encouraged the Biden administration to extend TPS protections for Venezuelans.
04:54The letter released this month made Venezuelans notice the hardline stance taken by Rubio, far-right parliamentarians, and opposition leader Maria Corina Machado.
05:05And in El Salvador, on Wednesday, United States Senator Chris Van Hollen was denied a visit with Salvadoran migrant Kilmar Abrego-Garcia, wrongly deported to the Latin American nation under Trump administration's orders.
05:21Precisely, Salvadoran vice president Felix Ulloa reportedly confirmed to Van Hollen that Abrego-Garcia remains detained at the high-security center SECOT, not due to crimes, but at the request of the United States government.
05:34The Maryland senator, who also co-shares the Senate's Foreign Policy Committee, intended to visit the deportee at the center and demand his return to the U.S.
05:42In this context, Van Hollen ratified to the press Abrego-Garcia had been illegally abducted since no crime has been proven against him.
05:51I'm asking President Bukele under his authority as president of El Salvador to do the right thing and allow Mr. Abrego-Garcia to walk out of a prison, a man who's charged with no crime, convicted of no crime, and who was illegally abducted from the United States.
06:16And Puerto Rico experienced a massive power outage on Wednesday that affected over one million customers.
06:24On Thursday morning, Puerto Rico Governor Jennifer Gonzalez Colon said in a press conference that the blackout was caused by a transmission failure and that power has yet to be restored to more than 50% of the island.
06:36In addition, Colon assured that most hospitals were functional with some being connected to generators, stressing there has been no decrease in their service or operations.
06:45For their part, Luma Energy, the power company servicing the Caribbean nation, admitted in a statement that the work to restore electricity among those affected could take between 48 and 72 hours.

07:28Well, look...
07:39Welcome back.
07:55Russian President Biden welcomed Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Arakshi, to the Kremlin for
08:00talks on Iran's nuclear program.
08:02Arakshi, who arrived in Moscow for a two-day official visit, is also expected to hold talks
08:07with his Russian counterpart, Segeri Lavrov, on Friday.
08:10In addition, it was unveiled earlier by Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, that Arakshi would
08:15deliver the Russian president a message from Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
08:20The visit comes less than a week after Iranian and U.S. officials held talks in Oman, the
08:24highest-level meeting between the two sides since U.S. President Trump abandoned a landmark
08:29nuclear deal in 2018 during his first term in office.
08:37In a previous gathering, the Iranian foreign minister Abbas Arakshi met with the director-general
08:42of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, to demand guarantees for the safety
08:48of its facilities and impartiality in the agency's compliance with its responsibilities, regardless
08:53of external political pressures.
08:55The petition comes as an attempt to diffuse tensions raised by the U.S. and Israeli governments,
09:00which had issued threats to Tehran to force Iranian authorities to meet their demands on nuclear
09:05energy.
09:12A Russian president of Biden reported met Thursday with the emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamin bin Hamad
09:17al-Thani, who is in Moscow for an official visit.
09:20The two leaders discussed bilateral cooperation, as well as international issues, including the
09:25Israeli-Palestine settlement and the issue in Syria, the situation in Syria.
09:30During the meeting, the Russian leader highlighted Qatar's efforts to reach a peace agreement
09:34in the Israeli-Palestine conflict, while the Qatari emir expressed his satisfaction for the
09:38level of relations with Russia.
09:40On the other hand, the Russian president reiterated Moscow's efforts to do everything possible
09:44to keep Syria as a sovereign, independent and territorially integral state, and to discuss
09:49the possibility of providing assistance to the people of the Arab country.
09:56We know that Qatar is making very serious efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestine conflict.
10:02Unfortunately, the initiatives put forward, including by you, have not been implemented.
10:08Civilians continue to die in Palestine, which is an absolute tragedy of today, a very serious
10:15one.
10:20We would like to do everything to ensure that Syria, firstly, remains a sovereign, independent
10:25and territorially integral state, and we would also like to discuss with you the possibility
10:29of providing assistance to the Syrian people, including humanitarian one.
10:35There are many problems there, both political and from the point of view of ensuring security,
10:40and of a purely economic nature.
10:46China's President Xi Jinping condemned unilateralism and hegemonism as harmful to the global economic
10:51system and lacking in popular support during his visit to Cambodia.
10:55At a time of growing global tensions, Xi Jinping warned that trade wars erode the multilateral
11:01trading system and especially affect developing countries.
11:04This stance becomes relevant amid the escalating trade war driven by the United States, in which
11:09Chinese products are subject to tariffs of up to 245%.
11:14In this regard, the Chinese leader urged the nations of the world to firmly defend their
11:18sovereignty and national security against external threats, reaffirming China's commitment
11:23to a stable and close diplomacy with its neighbors.
11:30The Chinese film week kicked off Thursday in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, during President Xi Jinping's
11:47state visit to the Southeast Asian country.
11:50The festival will take place until April 21st, where six Chinese films will be presented.
11:55The event is jointly organized by the China Film Administration, the Cambodian Ministry of Culture

12:01Several secretaries visited the launch ceremony, including the Vice Minister of the Publicity Department
12:06of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Cambodian Ministry of Culture
12:10and Fine Arts and others.

13:07The Palestinian movement Hamas informed Thursday that it is ready to begin negotiations on a ceasefire
13:12in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages in exchange for the withdrawal of Israeli troops.
13:17The statement was made by the movement leader Khalil al-Hayah during a televised speech cited by Arab media.
13:24A ceasefire was in effect in the Gaza Strip from January 19th to March 1st as part of a deal between Israel and Hamas
13:30on the exchange of prisoners.
13:32When the truce officially expired, hostilities did not presume due to many leaders' efforts
13:37to engage the parties in the ongoing negotiations on the Gaza settlement.
13:41However, Israel has stopped supplying power to the desalination plant in the enclave
13:46and has close access to humanitarian aid trucks entering the Strip.
13:55The United Nations reported that most Palestinians in Gaza eat only once every two days.
14:00Humanitarian aid groups once again condemn the Israeli blockade that prevents the entry of food
14:05and other essential goods to the enclave for two months now.
14:09The United Nations Humanitarian Office denounced that most of the two million inhabitants of Gaza depend on soup kitchens
14:15which can only prepare about one million meals a day.
14:18Floyd is added that thousands of children suffer from malnutrition since these meals consist mainly of rice or pasta.
14:24Israel continues to justify its blockade as a pressure tactic against the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas.
14:30Meanwhile, the people of Gaza face an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.
14:35An incident clashes over the capture of the city of Al-Fashar capital of North Darfur state left at least 130 dead and dozens wounded.
14:47In this regard, the nation's armed forces informed through a statement that the rapid support forces had repeatedly shelled the city,
14:54causing the deaths of civilians, among them women and children.
14:57In this context, experts emphasize that the parallel military are trying to take over the coast of Al-Fashar to turn it into the seat of their parallel government,
15:06since they control the five states of Darfur.
15:14And Niger has registered new clashes between the National Army and Islamist groups.
15:18The army reported that after military operations in the regions of Tlaveri and Tera, they cleared two alleged Islamist groups.
15:26The military also stated that six members of an alleged Islamist cell were killed near the border with Burkina Faso,
15:32and three others in the Tera region in the town of Garbunya, in the west of the country.
15:37These operations are part of our regional security strategies between Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso,
15:43member nations of the Alliance of Sahel States, to combat terrorist groups within their territories and near their borders.
15:50More than one million people have been displaced in the Democratic Republic of the Congo as a result of armed violence in the nation.
16:01The United Nations Children's Fund emphasized that civilians have abandoned their homes in the midst of the clashes between the army and the M-23 rebel group,
16:10in the provinces of Ituri, North and South Kivu.
16:13The entity pointed out that among the displaced, there are at least 400,000 children as a result of the violence.
16:19In this sense, UNICEF warned several days ago that minors could represent 45% of almost 10,000 cases of rape and sexual violence.
16:32Meanwhile, in the Vatican City, Easter Week activities started with the celebration of the Holy Thursday Christmas Mass
16:41to place the oils to be used in ceremonies in Rome parishes throughout the year.
16:45Thousands of faithful, including over 1,000 priests, took part in the ceremony in St. Peter's Basilica,
16:50which was not attended by Pope Francis, who is still recovering from a life-threatening bout of double pneumonia.
16:56The ceremony was instead offered by Cardinal Dominico Calcagno, retired head of the Vatican's Patrimony Office.
17:03Pope Francis is expected to remain largely on the sidelines during the week,
17:07as cardinals were designated to take his place presiding over the most important liturgical services leading up to Easter.
17:26In Italy, a red alert was issued for the north of the country due to heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong winds.
17:36Over 400 firefighters took part in rescue operations in the north of the country due to heavy flooding,
17:42overflowing rivers and landslides that have affected the population.
17:46In Piedmont, due to a rise in water levels in the Toste River, firefighters had to evacuate some residents
17:52while working to stop landslides along roads and remove fallen trees.
17:56Authorities warned that critical conditions will remain for the next few hours,
17:59although they remarked that so far no injuries or serious security problems have been reported.
18:10The Swiss, French and Italian Alps suffered heavy snowfalls that affected traffic and electricity service.
