00:40in Tehran.
00:43Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Lesus Studios in Havana,
00:51Cuba.
00:52We begin with the news.
00:53In Colombia, after the Security Council held on Friday in the Department of Santander,
00:57the government announced that it would decree a state of internal commotion in the area.
01:01Clashes between the National Liberation Army and dissident factions of the Revolutionary
01:05Armed Forces of Colombia have led President Gustavo Petro to lead this meeting to address
01:10the situation in Catatumbo region, where so far there have been 30 deaths, about 20 kidnapped
01:16and numerous displaced people in cities of the same department.
01:19The meeting granted extraordinary powers to the head of state to adopt measures that would
01:23lead to the re-establishment of order in the area, for the measures and decisions taken
01:28during the meeting, including the establishment of the state of internal commotion, will be
01:32made official through decrees.
01:38Venezuela has received displaced Colombians after clashes between the EAN and dissidents
01:42of the FARC's 33rd Front in Catatumbo, north of Santander.
01:45The Venezuelan government expressed its solidarity with the people of Colombia and activated
01:50a mechanism to receive and assist those displaced by the violence of paramilitary armed groups.
01:55According to official information, the latest clashes have left at least 30 civilians dead,
02:00about 20 kidnapped and dozens wounded.
02:11On his social media, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Iván Gil reported that the Bolivarian government
02:15on the instructions of President Nicolás Maduro, through civil protection, the municipalities
02:20of Suria and Táchira, activated a special operation to assist the civilian population
02:24displaced from Colombia, who are forced to escape from the terrible armed violence that
02:29has hit them.
02:30Venezuela, faithful to its commitment of brotherhood and solidarity with the Colombian people and
02:36government, will always be ready to provide the required humanitarian support to the population
02:40recurrently affected by the scourge of war in the sister nation.
02:52And the people and government of Venezuela are preparing for their first popular consultation
02:55in the year 2025.
02:56In this context, the Ministry of Popular Power for the Communes held a working meeting to
03:01finalize details of the electoral schedule.
03:03According to national authorities, their first popular consultation is scheduled for next
03:07February 2nd.
03:08Venezuelan authorities pointed out during the meeting that a work process has been generated
03:14consulted by the popular bases where assemblies were initiated in all the communal circuits
03:18and communes.
03:19In this sense, they indicated that in the next few days they will begin with the electoral
03:25campaign and will install tables to prepare for the date.
03:35We started today with a great national day of popular assemblies in all the communal
03:40circuits, communes, communal councils that will last until next Monday.
03:46Our people who have prioritized projects will begin to discuss them in the assemblies and
03:51will bring their ideas and proposals and they will be received in a system that we have
03:55where all this information will be sent, in the next few days we will also be doing the
04:00whole electoral campaign process.
04:04Building the polling stations and preparing ourselves so that February 2nd will be a day
04:08of participative democracy and an electoral party where millions of men and women will
04:13go to their polling stations to vote for their projects and immediately receive their resources
04:19and continue executing very important works in all the communities, especially to solve
04:25problems of public services, economic development and youth projects.
04:32And in Brazil, meetings of the Landless Rural Workers' Movement held a seven-day mass after
04:37the murder of farmer Baldir Nascimento and Gleison Barbosa.
04:43Citizens gathered at the mass to demand justice for the lives of the murdered farmers.
04:48They also condemned the massacre perpetrated on January 10th, 2025, in the Olga Bañario
04:55settlement in Tremembe, a municipality in the state of Sao Paulo.
04:59The rally, under the slogan Life, Justice and Agrarian Reform, was attended by parliamentarians
05:04and leaders of different religions, who denounced that the murders were caused by real state
05:09interests in the Olga Bañario settlement and called for concrete advances in agrarian
05:14reform to ensure greater security in the agrarian regions.
05:18We now have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on Tiktok at Tales

05:29We'll be right back, stay with us.
05:48Welcome back.
05:49In Guatemala, the government of Bernardo Arevalo is promoting a new attempt to establish a
05:53water law, which is considered by the farmer's development community as a maneuver to privatize
05:58the country's water.
05:59Let's see.
06:05These territorial coordinators of the peasant development committee are promoting a campaign
06:09to alert the communities about what they consider an attempt by the state to privatize water
06:13in Guatemala.
06:19This is for the people to wake up and realize what is happening, because we are clear that
06:25the people of Guatemala are never consulted.
06:28Decisions are always made from the practice of the state.
06:35In August 2024, the president formed the specific water cabinet responsible for proposing a
06:40water law in Guatemala to be presented to the legislature in 2025.
06:48We will create a framework so that water, this invaluable resource that abounds in Guatemala,
06:53is used by all for the benefit of all.
06:59Human rights advocates warn that the state's proposal would seek to secure water for industries
07:04that have historically monopolized more than 70 percent of water sources without paying for it.
07:11It is a failed and corrupt state because everything it does is for the benefit of the powerful
07:15and it is to take advantage of the people's goods.
07:19It is a robbery.
07:20It is a plundering of the wealth of the people.
07:23Over the last 40 years, more than 20 water bills have been introduced in the legislature,
07:31some of which include penalties and permits for indigenous communities for using water.
07:35None have prospered.
07:40And only two have an opinion, and that is rodent food in some archives of the Congress
07:45of the Republic.
07:47This is the legislative or legal reality on the water issue.
07:55In this situation, the Peasant Development Committee suggests a national constituent
07:59assembly to draft a new constitution where water is managed and cared for by the native
08:04communities, as they have done historically.
08:10In the United States, this is the first time that the Peasant Development Committee has
08:15In the United States, social, political and cultural organizations protest against the
08:19policies announced by President-elect Donald Trump on migration, reproductive rights and
08:23climate change.
08:24Mobilizations are taking place in more than 350 cities, two days before Donald Trump's
08:30inauguration as the nation's president for the 2025-2029 term.
08:34The event aims to foster solidarity on a wide range of social justice issues, advocating
08:39for radical change in U.S. values and prioritizing the well-being of communities over the interests
08:44of the wealthy.
08:45Protests follow their resistance movements that gained momentum during Trump's first
08:49term, sparked by a broad coalition of organizations expressing their opposition to his policies.
09:02Well, I'm from the before times for women's medical care that includes abortion, and I
09:08was able to benefit from medical care that includes abortion.
09:13And I have granddaughters and grandsons, and I am worried sick about the situation now.
09:20The time with this fiasco nearby Lafayette Park when I was down there for that demonstration
09:30was after the gentleman in Milwaukee was killed.
09:37And there were troops here without name tags and with multiple shotguns, and it was very
09:48disturbing because my neighborhood is here.
09:52And I fear those kinds of things will happen again.
10:01On Saturday, a gunman shot dead two Supreme Court judges in the city of the Judicial Headquarters
10:06in Tehran, the Iranian capital.
10:08Victims were identified as Ali Rassini and Mohammad Makiseh, both specialized in national
10:13security espionage and terrorism.
10:15A third magistrate was injured, but there is no further information on his condition.
10:20According to national media, the perpetrator committed suicide as security forces were
10:24preparing to arrest him.
10:26According to local news agency, the authorities are investigating the incident as a terrorist
10:30attack.
10:36In other news, the National Police of Ukraine are carrying out massive raids to arrest people
10:40of military service age who are invading the genre of mobilization.
10:45In a press release, it was reported that the police conducted over 200 searches related
10:49to cases of illegal border crossing by persons of conscription age.
10:54In view of these facts, officers under the prosecution direction of the Prosecutor General's
10:58Office launched raids against those involved in illegal transactions in 19 regions of Ukraine.
11:05The UAKF recruits men has been accused of being corrupt at its core, as many of them
11:10are forcibly taken by the military, grabbed by the arms and fed in the streets, or dragged
11:14off public transport or out of their own homes.
11:18Russia studies volume flow of future natural gas exports to Iran as part of the ongoing
11:24project of a new gas pipeline between the two countries.
11:27Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted that there are difficulties in the implementation
11:31of the project.
11:32However, he stated that the program will be carried out.
11:36The president specified that it is estimated to start with small volumes, around 2 billion
11:40cubic meters per year, and as the project progresses, it will be expanded to include
11:45And as the project progresses, the delivery amounts could reach up to 55 billion cubic
11:50meters per year.
11:51Moscow and Tehran's projections are part of the new Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
11:56Treaty signed by Putin and his Iranian counterpart Massoud Pesashkian, which seeks to strengthen
12:02bilateral relations.
12:07Russian authorities banned the import of livestock products from the European Union under transit
12:12through its territory due to a foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in Germany.
12:17The decision follows the confirmation by the German Agriculture Agency, which also just
12:21announced the first outbreak in a farm in Brandenburg, near Berlin.
12:25Restrictions were also implemented in several Latin American, European and Asian countries,
12:30while Belgium, Ireland, the Netherlands and Poland tightened controls to prevent the spread
12:35of the disease.

13:06Welcome, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency
13:35for Palestine Refugees has confirmed that its schools, health centers and hospitals
13:39will open normally on February 1, 2025, despite restrictions imposed by Israel.
13:45Felipe Lazzarini, URWA Commissioner General, emphasized that these limitations will not
13:49directly affect operations in Gaza, although activities in East Jerusalem will be compromised
13:55due to the total ban on operations in that area.
13:58Lazzarini criticized the Israeli campaign against URWA and rejected the proposal to
14:02replace it with other UN agencies, arguing that none has the capacity to adequately care
14:07for the more than 650,000 Palestinian refugees.
14:15The Israeli Occupational Forces carried out three massacres in the Gaza Strip during the
14:19last 24 hours, killing at least 23 Palestinians.
14:22Health authorities added that the Israeli actions left more than 80 wounded, though
14:26it is warned that both figures could be even higher since many of the victims remain trapped
14:31under the rubble.
14:32Occupational forces continue to hinder the movement of ambulances and civil defense teams.
14:37According to most recent health reports, at least 46,899 Palestinians have been killed
14:42and another 110,725 injured since October 2023.
14:53The Israeli Ministry of Justice published the names of at least 735 Palestinians who
14:58will be released as part of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
15:01The statement detailed that the release includes 230 Palestinians sentenced to life imprisonment,
15:07several of them locked up for decades.
15:09The L'Aviv plans to release about 1,167 Gazan residents captured in the midst of the
15:14attacks of October 7, 2023.
15:17In addition, as part of the truce reached, it plans to increase the amount of humanitarian
15:22aid to assist the population that remains in Palestine.
15:29Institutions defending the rights of Palestinian prisoners review hostage exchange operations
15:35with Israel within the framework of the ceasefire agreement reached between Hamas' resistance
15:39movement and Tel Aviv.
15:41According to the institutions, the exchange operations with the Israeli occupation began
15:45after the Nakba in Palestine in 1948 and others were carried out until October 18, 2011.
15:53According to them, the last prisoner exchange operation was in November 2023, where 240
15:58prisoners were released, among them 71 women and 169 children, after the announcement of
16:03a humanitarian truce in Gaza.
16:05As part of the ceasefire agreement reached on Wednesday, January 15, which will come
16:09into force on Sunday, January 19, Hamas plans to release a total of 33 hostages in exchange
16:15for the release of 737 Palestinian prisoners by Israel.
16:23And in Spain, thousands of citizens mobilized against fascism and in solidarity with Gaza
16:30after 15 months of Israeli genocide.
16:33The demonstrations took place in Barcelona and 28 other European cities to celebrate
16:38the ceasefire in Gaza and to reject fascism.
16:41Protesters point out that the people of the Gaza Strip are not only celebrating the fact
16:45that they are alive, but that they have been able to recover the bodies of their relatives.
16:50Demonstrators also say that the end of the genocide is a relief for those who lived under
16:54bombs and that they will continue to fight for the end of the occupation by the Zionist
16:59state of Israel.
17:07All the towns, all the streets and all the neighborhoods are with Palestine.
17:13But what we have seen is that the governments remain totally complicit in Israel's barbarism.
17:19In the Spanish state, we see that relations with Israel have not yet been broken, and
17:25what we are saying is that it is not that difficult.
17:28Do not have relations with genocidal states.
17:33Even if the ceasefire is signed, which is of course good news, it does not end here.
17:37This is not the end of Israel's occupation of the Palestinian people, and this is not
17:41the end of the need to keep an eye on the region because it is not clear if all the
17:45phases of the agreement will be fulfilled.
17:47It is not clear if human rights will be guaranteed, that the refugees will be able to return,
17:52or that the bodies of the dead will be returned to their families.
17:55We have to keep fighting, and we have to keep a close eye on what is happening in Gaza.
17:59Palestine must go!
