00:00Hey guys, this is the first in my radio career. We're on the lawn at DTE along with Ivan Moody from Five Finger Dodge Punch.
00:05What's up, my man? I mean, look at this. This is what it's all about, dude. Everybody say hi.
00:14You just wanted to show off your different colored socks, didn't you?
00:17Oh, that too. These are mandals. They're not sandals. I'm tired of hearing it.
00:22No, but this is really, for me, when I was a kid, I used to sit in the lawn. I mean, it's what my parents could afford.
00:27So, I mean, just being up there, I really don't get to extend any kind of love besides, you know, verbally.
00:32So, this is just a chance for me to hang out with my people.
00:34Yeah, it's really cool.
00:35I'm slobbering all over you. I got gum.
00:37That's all right. Hey, I guess the first question, I mean, how you doing, bro? You look great. You sound great.
00:41Dude, I feel fantastic. And I mean, I'm not just saying, I really feel like, I mean, how do you come back from, yeah, but I was on the cusp, you know what I mean?
00:50And I just, I had to go through transition, man. I had to peel off some skin and start over. So, I'm really proud. I am.
00:56Now, how much does releasing the record, touring, and all that kind of stuff help you?
01:00Oh, it's therapeutic. Absolutely. It's better than sitting in a room talking about a book.
01:04Yeah, that's for sure.
01:05You know what I mean?
01:05Dude, you guys changed my life, bro.
01:13I do, however, want to point something out while we're on air. Come here.
01:17There we go.
01:18What's your name?
01:19Heidi.
01:20Heidi.
01:21So, these shirts are bootleg.
01:24Uh-oh.
01:24If you see somebody, no, don't apologize. Listen.
01:29Here's the thing. I'm not mad at you. I'm pissed off that somebody's out there taking $20 of these people's hard-earned money claiming to be us.
01:36Fuck you.
01:37I owe you $20.
01:43Uh-oh.
01:44Did I laugh the F-bomb?
01:45I did.
01:46You're okay. We're on video. Don't worry about it.
01:47You can cut Pro Tools.
01:49Hey, let's talk about the record real fast because I talked to Noodles, and I said, have you heard their version gone away?
01:54Right. And this was like, he hadn't heard it yet.
01:56No, I'm sorry. He says he did hear it. He loved the guitar solo.
01:58He says he thinks they're going to cover your version while they do their version, but you're a big Dexter fan, eh?
02:03Oh, I love the whole band.
02:04Yeah.
02:04Oh, yeah. No kidding.
02:06Yeah, this is one of my, I grew up on The Offspring, so it's like, you know, I'm a big punk rock kid, and I actually got to play with them over in Holland, I think it was.
02:12Okay.
02:13And we were opening for them, and I went and I introduced myself. Noodles is just outstanding.
02:17He walks me into his dressing room. He goes, well, Ivan, I've got six bottles of wine. I only plan on drinking four of them.
02:23You want to help? And, I mean, it was awesome. He was just really chill. That was it. That was the whole conversation.
02:28You must have all sorts of great rock stories.
02:29Oh, I love it, man. It makes this life great.
02:32What do you think the keys to your success? I mean, you've been doing this now for a long time.
02:35Staying real.
02:36Yeah.
02:37I'm a blue-collar kid, man.
02:38Yeah.
02:39I mean, the second, seriously. I know a lot of people talk about it, but, you know, they always...
02:43You're up here on the lawn doing an interview.
02:44That's what I mean.
02:44How much more blue-collar could it get, right?
02:45That's what I mean, dude. I'm a farm boy from Colorado, so for me, this is nothing but love.
02:49Yeah. Tell us how the band's doing. How's everyone... It looks like you guys are getting longer.
02:53Better than ever.
02:54Yeah.
02:54Better than ever, and it's all my fault.
02:56Is it your fault, huh?
02:56Yeah, totally. Hugs and tugs, man. Come on.
02:58That's right. I saw it on your wall.
03:00You like that on my wall? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
03:01So does Chris being sober, too, that helps you out a lot, too, I'd imagine.
03:04I'm so proud of him, man. Him and I are actually basically sharing sober birthdays, and his is coming up, I think, either tomorrow or the day after.
03:11Okay.
03:11I don't want to say other, but I'm just so proud of the whole... They've stood behind me in a time where most people, just like yourself, and I was talking to another person in your station.
03:22You guys had every opportunity to walk away from me, and you could have, and it would have been totally fine, and I would have understood, but you didn't.
03:28And my band didn't, and these guys didn't, and I love you for it. Thank you.
03:33Yeah, and well, I think...
03:33That sounds so cheesy.
03:34Well, I know, yeah.
03:35But I think those guys really appreciate and care about you, and they really want to see the right path for you as well.
03:40Oh, definitely. I mean, I won't lie to you, at first, I was furious when I saw Tommy on the...
03:43Because I saw him online, and I was all, what the...
03:47Who the hell is that singing my shit, you know?
03:50Oh, yeah, yeah. The other day, okay, for those people that don't know, Tommy Vex went up on stage.
03:53I had him do it. I had him start the show, so when the kabuki came down, it was him, and I was sitting in behind the drums watching the front row, and they're all, yeah, what the shit is this?
04:03It was just fantastic.
04:04And then didn't you sing a zombie with them somewhere one time?
04:07Yeah, yeah, I sang, so I think it was a few weeks back.
04:09Okay.
04:09I'm just really proud of the guys. John Berklin, the drummer, he used to be in Devil Driver.
04:13Right.
04:13I've known that, here they come.
04:14Yeah.
04:14I've known that guy for 15 years.
04:16Anyway, everybody have a great night. Make some noise!
04:20There's Ivan, right here on 101 The Riff. Thanks, brother.
04:22There it be.
04:23Ivan!
