00:00Tommaso, close to the top 10 yesterday. Were you happy with your race? Were you happy with your result?
00:06Yeah, I'm happy but I was hoping for a top 10 but the result was good and I'm quite happy.
00:15How was the finale?
00:17The finale was a little chaotic with the descent before the last kilometre and the last climb was quite hard.
00:29The pace was very hard but I tried to follow the best riders and I loved the pace, not too bad.
00:40How important is it for a young Italian rider to do well at Il Giro d'Abruzzo with big teams?
00:47It's very important because it's a chance to show our best with some of the best riders in the world.
01:03What is your ambition today?
01:05Today to rest in front and to try to keep the best as much as possible to find the good legs and a good result.
01:17What is the goal for the four days?
01:20I don't know. I don't know what to expect because it's the first time that I have these good legs but whatever I take it is good.
01:35George, you made the podium of this race one year ago. Did you come back for winning?
01:40Yeah, I mean of course we try but it's always hard and this year the course is a little bit more complicated.
01:48Last year we had like a really big climb and it was more about the legs. This year it's more tactical I would say.
01:54Like yesterday you saw big groups going away and we were quite lucky that we could close that and you know teams that have numbers to play with they have a good advantage here.
02:03Today is going to be another really complicated day. Tomorrow is maybe a little bit harder but we will definitely try and win.
02:15What is it like to race with a team of very young and inexperienced riders and who are the rivals for the overall win?
02:23It's good. I like riding with the young guys. I mean not that you can teach young guys anything anymore. They know more about cycling than me.
02:30It's a new generation. It's not like back in the day where you sort of turned pro and it was your apprenticeship and you learnt as you went.
02:37I mean these guys turned pro at 18 and they know everything. They've already been professionals since they were juniors.
02:46But I do really like riding with a young team. We've got a really good group here. They're like fun guys.
02:53And of course having Stevie coming back from injury also. He's one of my best mates so it's good having him here on the bike.
03:00For the overall I think Dela Cruz, Todes, the Tudor boys, Damien Housen. I think there's a lot of guys that can win.
03:11I mean to be honest I think even Covey can hold on. If he takes some more time today in a sprint.
03:19And yeah he could hold on. It's not like there's not like a 10k climb at 8% or something that we can really make the difference. But yeah we'll see.
03:31Marco, yesterday at some stage have you thought you were going to win it?
03:36Yeah I was feeling good. It was a bit out of control. We missed the group in the front. So yeah I decided to try to jump in the second last climb.
03:47And yeah I think the shape is good. And in the finish I missed maybe 1-2% to play for the win. But I think Covey was really strong. And it would be hard to beat him.
04:01But yeah we'll try to get better the next days and try to win.
04:07It looks harder today. At least the climb is longer. Is it better for you?
04:11Yeah I think it's better for me. Also for my teammate Matisse. Yeah I think it can go both ways today. It can be a control day towards the last climb.
04:21But it can also start getting super chaotic before with some attacks. But we see how it goes. I think we prepare for both things. Yeah but I hope I will play for the win today.
04:33Do you see you guys, very young riders, beating UAE Team Emirates at El Giro d'Abruzzo?
04:40It's gonna be difficult but I don't think it's impossible.
04:45Damien, very good start of El Giro d'Abruzzo for you.
04:49Yeah it's been nice. It's always challenging. These roads around here up and down all day.
04:55And with the style of racing here it's quite aggressive. You never know what moves can make it to the line.
05:01So we have to be attentive every day here. So it makes it difficult but we got off to a good start yesterday.
05:06What kind of race do you expect today?
05:08I think something similar to yesterday but obviously there's a bit more difficult climbs out there that potentially can make some selections a little bit earlier.
05:17And then if teams are running out of numbers towards the final you can find it quite aggressive before the final climb even starts.
05:24Do you feel ready for GC or is it for David de la Cruz?
05:28I think we have a few good options in the team. Some of us are coming down from altitude ready for our up and coming goals.
05:35So the sensations can be a bit different from day to day but I think we're all in good shape ready to go and we're motivated for at least one of us to be right up there in the general classification.
05:48Is Il Giro d'Abruzzo a good preparation for Il Giro d'Italia?
05:52Yeah, I've never done this race before. The weather is nice and for us it works out well with the timing.
05:58So yeah, I'm happy to be here and hopefully it's a good step towards our goals coming up.
06:05Yeah.
06:06Now, are you happy with your condition in this Giro d'Abruzzo?
06:12Yes, I'm happy with the team and with my condition. Yeah, I'm happy.
06:22What is your ambition?
06:24Ah, but for this race I will try to do the GC but I feel good and the condition is good now but I will see the race.
06:50You won a stage at the Tour of Rwanda. Do you think you can win a stage here as well?
06:55Ah, yeah. But it was more, more, more condition good in Rwanda but I don't know.
07:12Who is your idol in cycling? Is it Biniam Girmaï, your compatriot?
07:17Sorry?
07:20Who is, are you a fan of your compatriot, Biniam Girmaï?
07:24Ah, yes, yes, yes. Yes, Biniam Girmaï. Sorry, I didn't understand. Sorry.
07:33Alessandro, only once before in your professional career you've been the leader of a stage race at Vuelta Andalusia.
07:40What is it like to be back in a leader's jersey?
07:43Yeah, from when I'm professional, it's the second time, I think. And it's always nice. It's a responsibility. But we are here to try to win this jersey, if not with me, with Pablo. So it's nice we already have it. We try to keep it to the finish.
08:06Are you in a defending position today?
08:11Yeah, we see how is the race. We have a strong team. And if we arrive together, I try again to do the sprint.
08:21Do you expect a finale that will be harder?
08:25Yeah, every day is hard. And we see, I think, maybe the attack. So we have just to control this attack or be inside. And after, if we arrive together, I try.
08:40Who are you afraid of? Bax is there. I see him very focused.
08:47Anyone else?
08:49The team of Bax is strong. So also Q36, they can attack, they can move. So we control them also.
09:10So Q36, they can take aheimer's jersey to the table. And the other team of Bax. We can do that at the bottom.
