00:15community of Latin American Caribbean states to strengthen tides of integration the Dominican
00:24Republic has declared three days of national mourning after the collapse of a nightclub roof
00:28in the nation's capital, claiming the life of at least 124 people.
00:39Argentina's General Confederation of Labour and other social organizations rallied on Wednesday
00:45in support of retirees prior to the general strike in rejection of the policies of President
00:50Javier Milley.
00:58Hello and welcome to From the South, Domana Marrello from the Telesur headquarters in
01:03Caracas, Venezuela.
01:04We'll be with the news, stay with us.
01:17Honduras has the head of state and governments for the night's summit of the community of
01:21American Caribbean states, a lack to address economic and social solutions in the face
01:27of the crisis caused by capitalism.
01:29With the presence of the President of Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Uruguay, Cuba and Honduras,
01:36the meeting takes place in the midst of the tariff war declared by the President of the
01:40U.S., Donald Trump.
01:42In addition, the President will build an agenda to face global challenges such as the trade
01:48war.
01:48Likewise, during the day, the President of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, is expected to hand
01:52over the pro-tempo presidency of the bloc to her Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro.
02:07Venezuela President, Nicolás Maduro, said at the Slack summit that only with the union
02:12of the member countries of the bloc will it be possible to face the course of measures
02:17implemented by the U.S. in the region.
02:24The union of our peoples is a must, and need to be built on the basis of the heritage that
02:31we have been able to create and accumulate, of proposals, the CELAC must take up again,
02:37with force, the Council of Ministers' meetings, as Honduras did during its extraordinary presidency.
02:46I congratulate President Xiomara Castro and Honduras for the virtuous leadership she has
02:52shown to reactivate the joint councils of ministers in the fields of economy, health, education,
02:59science and technology, but councils of ministers that contribute with experiences and ideas for
03:06shared action.
03:13For his part, President of Brazil, Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva affirmed his government's
03:18willingness to boost trade and the regional financial system.
03:21We need to promote regional trade in goods and services, its diversification and increasing
03:32facilitation.
03:33In order to expand our trade, my government is committed to reactivating the agreement on
03:39reciprocal payments and credits of the Latin American Integration Association and expand the
03:45system of payments in local currency.
03:47Integrate transportation, energy and telecommunications networks over short distances, reduce costs,
03:54and encourage synergies between productive chains.
03:57Brazil has been promoting five South American integration routes that will link the Caribbean,
04:03Atlantic and Pacific.
04:04Strengthening regional financial institutions such as the Development Bank of Latin America
04:10and the Caribbean, the Caribbean Development Bank and FAMPLATA is essential to ensure that
04:15these projects come to fruition.
04:21Moreover, Colombian President Gustavo Petro stated that not the American government should
04:25accept that its citizens be treated as criminals and sent to prisons in El Salvador.
04:34It's not whether those jails should be there or not.
04:38What I do criticize is that no migrant should go to any of those jails because they would be
04:44treated as criminals and as slaves and they are not.
04:49They are human beings and Latin America cannot lower the flag of human dignity.
04:54Human dignity was what made us be born as republics and not as monarchies.
04:59If we forget that part of history, which is the same of that of the United States except for Canada,
05:08we then forget what the very concept of human dignity means.
05:13For the more, the president of Bolivia, Luis Ars, emphasized the importance of consolidating
05:22the organization as a platform for political cooperation in order to find its own solutions
05:27to the challenges that the region faces.
05:30In a world characterized by geopolitical transitions, economic inequalities, and threats to democratic
05:40stability, CELAC must consolidate itself as a platform for political cooperation where our voices are heard
05:48without external interference, and where we can provide our own solutions to the challenges we face.
05:58It is important that, as a region, we reaffirm the indispensable role of multilateralism,
06:06effective and not testimonial, in the importance of strengthening our participation in these international
06:16forums to promote cooperation, solidarity, and sustainable development.
06:21During her speech, Adonais Laksam and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stressed that Latin America
06:30and the Caribbean must also work together to strengthen national integration.
06:38Today, 15 years after the first meeting of this community, we find ourselves in a very different
06:45international situation.
06:47These are times of radical changes in world trade that affect our countries.
06:54Each of us, with legitimacy, seeks the best for our peoples and nations.
07:00However, I believe that today, more than ever, is a good time to recognize that Latin America
07:06and the Caribbean require unity and solidarity from their governments and their peoples, in order
07:13to strengthen a greater regional integration, always within the framework of mutual respect
07:19and compliance with the sovereignty and independence of our countries, and the trade agreements that
07:24each of the U.S. may have.
07:30Likewise, during his speech, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel urged the member countries to work together
07:35together for the well-being, peace, and security of the people of Latin America and the Caribbean.
07:40At a time when the world is experiencing an escalation of tensions, of an increase in armed conflicts and of
07:50unconventional wars, as well as of a deepening of inequalities, social exclusion, and poverty,
07:57it is crucial to join efforts and work together for the well-being, peace, and security of the Latin
08:03American and Caribbean peoples.
08:06It is urgent to expand cooperation, to identify projects beneficial to our nations and to take
08:13advantage of the complementarities of the economies of the region, to achieve that, it is essential to
08:20agree on our positions, to defend the historical consensus of the community and to identify shared
08:26visions and other issues of interest for our nations. To speak as one voice in international
08:32forums will always be an important contribution to the struggle of developing countries for the
08:38implementation of an international, democratic, fair, equitable and respectful order and the
08:46sovereign equality of all states.
08:52President Xiomara Castro stressed the need for countries of the region to build a future together
08:57in the face of new global realities.
09:04Presidents, we cannot continue to walk apart when the world is reorganizing itself without us.
09:16But neither can we unite by repeating the recipes of failure, the neoliberal model, promoted
09:28by the Washington consensus in the 90s, predatory and exclusive, has emptied our economies, indebted
09:41our countries, concentrated capital in a few hands and privatized public services, concentrating
09:58through its form nature, which should not continue to be the spoils of capital.
10:03The Honduran head of state announced that in the means of the massive deportation of migrants
10:11by the US, luck must be respected.
10:18Our young people have become migrants who, seeking the American dream, today are massively
10:28expelled from the United States.
10:30In the face of this challenge, CELAC must be respected as a zone of peace.
10:44This commitment against war and in favor of peace has to be ratified, this day, in this
10:51assembly.
10:52Let's take a very first break, but remember, you can join us on our TIC de la Caona, CELES

16:21On the other hand, by in-arch the Trump administration revised the measures right away,
16:26which is considered being implemented to exert pressure on the Asian nation.
