00:00Britain's Got Talent is back for its 18th season on ITV which is quite hard to believe it's been on
00:06telly for that long, almost 20 years now. But you might be wondering why is it starting so early
00:13this year? Well I'm TV and tech writer Matt Mohn-Hickson and this is all you need to know.
00:19It doesn't usually start in the winter, it's more of a spring kind of TV show. This is the earliest
00:25that the programme has ever started during its multiple decades now on ITV. That's because
00:33Ampton Deck's Saturday Night Takeaway went on hiatus last year so it finished in April 2024
00:39and it's on hiatus so there isn't the season this year. And to fill out its schedule ITV have
00:45stretched out Britain's Got Talent so there's gonna be some changes this year. The audition
00:50stages as usual will air weekly which fans should be used to by now but the biggest change of all
00:58is coming for the live semi-finals and final and all those episodes. Usually that airs over a week
01:07so you have all the semi-finals on Monday through Friday and then the final at the weekend but for
01:132025 the live episodes are actually going to be spaced out weekly as well so Britain's Got Talent
01:19is going to run from 22nd of February all the way to the 31st of May so it's on for a long long time
01:26it's a pretty long haul this year. So the live episodes will be on a Saturday night and they'll
01:32be spaced out every week so they'll do all the semi-finals and then the final and they'll be
01:36spaced out weekly instead of all consecutively so that's a pretty big change and that's because
01:42Saturday Night Takeaway isn't on the TV schedule anymore so ITV have had to fill it out by
01:48extending Britain's Got Talent but that means that Britain's Got Talent is on for longer you
01:52get to spend more time there's more time between the semi-finals as well so you get more time.
