00:00You've finally been waiting for this for months, the band, the show, the event of the
00:06year.
00:07You've finally scored those tickets and then BAM, I'm sorry if I scared you, but you did
00:12find out that they're fake and you've been scammed.
00:15Now ticket fraud is a huge problem.
00:18People are losing serious money and missing out on experiences they love.
00:23It's not just disappointing, let's be honest, it's devastating, but don't worry, I'm here
00:27to help.
00:28This video will break down where these scams are hitting hardest, how they work, and most
00:33importantly how to protect yourself so you can get back to enjoying the music, the sport,
00:39the whatever you want tickets for without the stress.
00:43Where is this ticket scam madness happening?
00:45Well it's all over, but some areas are seeing it worse off than others, so I mean check
00:51this out.
00:52Suffolk for example, it might not be the place you'd expect, but people here are losing a
00:57ton of cash when they get scammed.
00:59We're talking an average of over 6 grand a pop, or attempt at a pop.
01:04That could be because of pricey festival tickets or something, we can get into the why's later.
01:10And then you've got London, obviously, big place, loads of events, and a massive online
01:16scene.
01:17So yeah, the total money lost here is huge, millions of pounds, but it's not always the
01:23biggest amount per person.
01:25Leicestershire is also up there, not necessarily the most money lost, but a lot of people here
01:30are reporting being scammed, which is a red flag.
01:34So why is it happening, why are so many people falling for these scams?
01:39Well it's a perfect storm sadly.
01:42There is of course high demand, when tickets are scarce we get desperate.
01:47We see that countdown timer, the limit availability warnings, and we panic buy without thinking.
01:52And then there's the internet itself, amazing for buying tickets, but also perfect for scammers
01:57to hide behind fake profiles, and disappear with your hard earned money.
02:02And the resale market, well official sites, fan to fan, dodgy sellers, it's hard to know
02:07who to trust, and scammers sadly thrive in that confusion.
02:12A study undertaken by Seatpick found out that from February 2024, ticket scams accounted
02:19for a loss of over 10 million pounds, and that's a ridiculous amount to be lost going
02:26to see your favourite event.
02:28So what are some of the common tricks that scammers use, well the fake website trick
02:32is always a great one.
02:35The site looks legitimate, but the URL is slightly off, what you think is Ticketmaster
02:40turns out to be Ticketmister, or StubHub becomes StibHub.
02:44The design is always a bit dodgy, so always double check.
02:49For media scams as well, someone offering you tickets, great, but if the profile's new
02:54and there's no friends, and the price is too good to be true, then you better believe your
02:59sweet bippy, it's too good to be true.
03:02And of course the classic fake tickets, they look real, but they won't scam, and once you're
03:07at the venue, it's game over.
03:09So how do we fight back, well rule number one, and I can't stress this enough, please
03:14only buy from authorised sellers, it's the safest bet.
03:18When you do your homework, check the website URL, look for a padlock icon, see if they
03:23have a real address and a phone number, pay with a credit card if you can, they usually
03:28offer more protection against fraud than debit cards or bank transfers, and in the UK look
03:33for the star mark, it means the seller is officially recognised and follows industry
03:39standards.
03:40Look, no one wants to miss out, but a few extra minutes of caution can save you a lot
03:45of heartache and money.
03:47If you do get scammed, please by all means report it to Action Fraud, it helps them track
03:52these people and stop others, and most importantly, share the information.
03:57The more people that know how to avoid scams and how to report them, the harder it is for
04:03the scammers to win.
04:04Now go out there, queue up on Ticketmaster once again, enjoy the events, and stay safe.
04:11Fingers crossed that you actually get through and don't get used to being a bot.
