00:00Hi, I'm health reporter Sarah McCann. Millions of people in the UK could be
00:05unaware that they are living with deadly heart or circulatory disease. This is why
00:12it's so important to look after our heart health. You are more at risk of
00:17developing cardiovascular disease if you smoke, have high blood pressure, high
00:21cholesterol, do not exercise regularly or have diabetes. There are several ways you
00:28can reduce your risk such as lowering your blood pressure and cholesterol
00:32levels, eating a healthy balanced diet, being more physically active, quitting
00:38smoking, reducing your alcohol content and keeping your blood pressure and
00:43diabetes under control. You can find out more about your heart health at the
00:49British Heart Foundation and there's information about your heart and how to
00:53check your heart age at nhs.co.uk. According to statistics from the British
01:00Heart Foundation, heart and circulatory diseases account for a quarter of all
01:05deaths in the UK. This breaks down to 170,000 deaths a year, 480 deaths a day
01:13and one death every three minutes. There are more than 7.6 million people in the
01:20UK living with a heart or circulatory condition. The British Heart Foundation
01:26estimates that more than half of us will have a heart or circulatory condition in
01:31our lifetime.
