00:00Good day. Welcome to the Gulf News Update for Monday, October the 24th. Here are the
00:07top stories at this hour.
00:09The UAE has decided to raise its clean energy target from 24% to 27% by 2021 as part of
00:16its global commitment to fight climate change. Dr. Thani Ahmed Al Zayoudi, UAE Minister of
00:22Climate Change and Environment, said the target was part of the country's internal action
00:26plan to implement the Paris Climate Agreement. The UAE, which formally ratified the Paris
00:32deal on September 21st, was the first in the region to set a clean energy target by 2021.
00:39Hundreds of refugees carrying suitcases and bundles of possessions started queuing outside
00:43a hangar outside Calais this morning to be resettled. Armed police fanned out across
00:49the squalid shantytown after a night during which small groups of refugees burned toilet
00:54blocks and hurled stones at security forces. The French government said it's closing the
00:59camp home to 6,500 refugees fleeing war and poverty on humanitarian grounds.
01:06Sport and Ben Stokes took the last two Bangladesh wickets in three balls as England won a thrilling
01:12first test by 22 runs in Chittagong. Bangladesh, needing 33 runs for what would have been their
01:18first win over England in nine attempts, added 10 runs to their overnight total and were
01:24all out for 263. Stokes was named Man of the Match for taking six wickets in the two
01:30innings and also scoring 85 in England's second innings.
01:36US comedian Bill Murray is on cloud nine, and it's not just because his beloved baseball
01:41team the Chicago Cubs are advancing to the World Series for the first time in 71 years.
01:46The Lost in Translation star got a major salute on Sunday from America's top comedians and
01:52Hollywood A-listers, who presented him with one of the U.S.' top comedy awards.
01:56I feel like I'm in a hurricane, Murray told a crowd in Washington after receiving the
02:01Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
02:04And finally, weather. Today's high across the UAE will be 33 degrees Celsius, dropping
02:09to 25 degrees at night. That's all for now. Thanks for watching, and as always, you can
