Joe Buck reacts to Newcastle United's disappointing 4-1 defeat at St James' Park against Bournemouth. A Justin Kluivert hat-trick and a late strike from Milos Kerkez ended a nine-match winning run by Eddie Howe's side.

00:00So Newcastle United's brilliant run of form comes to an end with a thud after a 4-1 defeat
00:06here at St James' Park against Bournemouth. Having had sort of a little bit of time to reflect
00:12after the game, I think the first thing you've got to say is fair play to Bournemouth, they were absolutely
00:16brilliant. They came into the game with probably 11 first team players, two keepers on the bench,
00:22a lot of academy graduates and they absolutely outplayed Newcastle from minute one.
00:28It wasn't a smash and grab by any means, Bournemouth fully deserved the win. 4-1 I would say
00:34flattered Newcastle, maybe it didn't flatter Newcastle but it was the exact type of margin that game
00:38deserved and that performance deserved. Bournemouth were brilliant, Newcastle weren't very good.
00:42And that's basically how we sum up the game. Bournemouth came here with a game plan, executed
00:46in perfection. Zabani and Howson at the back were absolutely brilliant, their attacking players were
00:52fantastic, Semenu, Uttara and Justin Kluivert, just absolutely brilliant all day. Kluivert obviously
00:57with a hat-trick which he'll come on to. Bournemouth were just brilliant, Newcastle weren't very good.
01:03And that's it, that's how you sum up that 90 minutes. Bournemouth started off fantastically, they
01:08pressed high and didn't give Newcastle a foothold in the game until the 1-0 down, actually Newcastle
01:13didn't get a foothold at all in the game but they barely had any of the ball in the first five minutes.
01:18Bournemouth go ahead, Justin Kluivert sweeps home, unmarked and there was a great finish at the bottom
01:24corner and at that point Newcastle have had setbacks before but can they react? No, not really,
01:31they didn't. Bournemouth were brilliant and maybe could have made it two. They eventually did get
01:35themselves on the score sheet, Newcastle that was from the corner, Lewis holds ball, found Bruno
01:40Guimaraes, unmarked and probably Bournemouth only slip up in the day really, I think they were
01:43defensively brilliant, well all over the pitch brilliant. That was the only time they switched off
01:49and Bruno got a header in, Kepa probably should have done better in goal but Newcastle will take it
01:55and the one-one you think, can they press on now? St James' Park was up for it at that point, it started
02:00quiet but it lifted then but Bournemouth continued to play the way they did, they were the ones up
02:05and more attacking and they got the goal just before half-time. Kluivert again, capitalising on
02:11some poor defending from Newcastle, Bruno gave the ball away and Kluivert scores and then they
02:17headed the break 2-1 down and you just want a response in the second half, we've seen it.
02:21Sven Botman was taken off of Fabian Scheer so that was the one that made it half-time by Eddie Howe,
02:26very quickly Joe Willock was introduced to the game, just to try and add more legs, add a different
02:31dynamic to the game. Kieran Trippier was on there, Lewis Hall had a really tough afternoon, he had a
02:37tough afternoon, most of them did. Lewis Hall, liver-mental on both full-backs had a really tough
02:42game. It's hard to describe because Newcastle barely had any chances, Anthony Gordon had a couple
02:49to be fair, he had a volley 2-1 which blocked on the line, brilliant block on the line. If that had
02:55gone in obviously it's a different game but Newcastle didn't deserve it, it would have been harsh
02:58on Bournemouth and Bournemouth actually could have had a third before that, they did score a third
03:03but the ball was judged to have just gone over the line before Tonali cleared it, it was heading
03:09off a corner, Tonali cleared it, Bournemouth recycle the ball and it goes in but VAR correctly overrules
03:14it for the ball out of play and that was a correct goal and that's what VAR is there for, it was a clear
03:17and obvious error but that was a warning sign that Newcastle should have reacted to but they didn't
03:22and yeah, 3-1, he didn't stop his time, Anthony Gordon giving the ball away to Kluivert with a shot
03:27from 25 yards, brilliant effort. To be fair, it's weird having a hat-trick that goes under the radar
03:32but he was brilliant but so many Bournemouth players were really good, Kluivert was one of them and
03:36yeah, as I said, you don't often score a hat-trick in away performance, well he scored it twice actually
03:41this year after getting hat-trick penalties at Wolves but yeah, often the hat-trick in away performance
03:44doesn't get overshadowed but it did just by his teammates who were brilliant and then Kyrgz made a 4-1
03:48at the end, he had a brilliant game and yeah, what Newcastle United do now, they didn't play at their best
03:54against Wolves, they got away with it, the Wolves weren't very good in the other 1-3-0, that sort of
03:57flattered them a bit I think but today they were out-thought, out-ran and you don't often see that
04:02but I think they were out-ran by Bournemouth, they were definitely out-thought and the only Arreola
04:06is a good manager and to be fair, he's out-thought Eddie Howe, Eddie Howe just can't get a winner
04:10against Bournemouth as a Newcastle United manager and yeah, they were out-run, out-played, out-thought
04:15everything, Bournemouth just came out with the game plan, executed perfectly and yeah, Newcastle United
04:20as I said, brought back down to the 3rd and now, they have to rely on results elsewhere
04:25of course it is January, there's plenty of time, they're still in their hands but they will head to
04:30Southampton next week potentially with teams behind them either overtaking them or very much in their
04:35sort of in-breather space and then Southampton next week, they'll be fighting for their lives, that'll be
04:39a difficult game, they'll fancy the chances but it'll be a difficult game and then with Fulham the week
04:43after, you're now thinking they're going to have to win them two games because they can't really slip up
04:46too many times, especially with the games they've got in February, Manchester City, Liverpool, Forest
04:50sort of, they're within a couple of weeks of each other but yeah, looking around today, the way they
04:54out-played Bournemouth brilliantly, you've just got to hold your hands up, Newcastle won't be happy,
04:57Eddie Howe won't be happy of course but you've got to hold your hands and say, actually sometimes you're
05:00beaten by the better team and they were beaten by the better team, it's as simple as that, Bournemouth
05:03were brilliant, so yeah, that's all you can say Newcastle United, winning run comes to an end, now
05:10they're going to have to go to Southampton next week and get something because yeah, today was not a
05:14good day, not a good day at all for Eddie Howe's side and it'll be interesting what he says at full-time
05:18of course you can read all, everything Eddie Howe says on the Shields today because it'll be interesting
05:22his reaction and yeah, they're going to need, the team are going to have to bounce back next weekend
05:26next weekend
