00:00So the dust is just beginning to settle after that pulsating Newcastle United 3 Liverpool
00:073 game. It was a fantastic advert for Premier League football and a game that both teams
00:12will I think they'll accept the point I think they'll know that at times they were dominant
00:16team in the game and also times they were under the cosh a lot and yeah one that Newcastle
00:20United will be really happy with that performance after the West Ham and Crystal Palace draws
00:24although they haven't got the win they'll be really happy with a point and one that
00:27hopefully they can continue that into the future because that was fantastic it was Newcastle
00:31United at some of their very best on Eddie Howe and they could have scored 7 or 8 Liverpool
00:36to be fair had their chances as well it was just another memorable game between these
00:39two sides and one that Newcastle started really well to be fair you've got to give them that
00:45and you did wonder how they would react from obviously their setbacks but they did really
00:48well and put Liverpool under a lot of pressure were getting chances and Liverpool of course
00:53had their own way they threatened Nick Pope made a couple of good saves but it was a really
00:59even half but then the moment of magic in that first half was Alexander Isak Bruno wins
01:04the ball high up passes to Isak Isak takes a touch on his right foot Van Dijk can't deal
01:10with him and Isak absolutely slams it into the top corner from about 25 yards it was
01:14a simply brilliant goal and one that you know Isak will be really you know that it's a very
01:20good striker's finish and that just showed his quality it was a fantastic goal and one
01:24that Newcastle deserved at that point I think I think they were very good very good value
01:27money for the lead they could have been 2-0 up just after Isak again was involved in everything
01:31he was absolutely brilliant there play making striking everything you'd want from a modern
01:36number number nine the modern striker and he was brilliant he set up Alex sorry Alexander
01:40Isak set up Anthony Gordon, Gordon capitalised on a mistake by Joe Gomez but his shot was
01:46blocked by Kelleher it was a disappointing that one Gordon you'd think would score one
01:50on one with Kelleher but just after that Van Dijk then gives Gordon a little shoulder
01:54from behind it was it was a real cowardly move from Van Dijk that one it really was
01:59you know it was one where Van Dijk was trying to show himself and that was a real disappointment
02:03VAR looked at it but didn't think it was worthy of a red card um it was probably an orange card
02:08I think you can see if you've been sent off I don't think there'd be much complaints but
02:12you contrast it with sort of Fabian Schärer against Bernd Berrett in the early season
02:16it's a disappointment that I wasn't given this red card but having said that we've seen how
02:20Newcastle United played against Liverpool with 10 men of course last year and how Newcastle United
02:24played against teams that would sit back so maybe that red card actually worked in their favour
02:27because Liverpool weren't sitting back the whole time they still had these these gaps to sort of
02:32to get into but Newcastle were looking very very uh dangerous on the counter-attack Murphy had a
02:37couple of shots that just went wide Sandro Tonali had a really early shot that was saved by Kelleher
02:41so you know they were definitely on top of the first half and certainly I think the better team
02:44in that first period now their task was to come out the second half and really stamp their authority
02:50on this and try and you know catalyze on that momentum and to be fair um they sort of did that
02:54first couple minutes but Liverpool were quickly get a goal back um it was yeah it'd be a disappointing
02:59goal to concede I think but you know it was it was one where I think Newcastle will look back
03:06on it and they'll be holes because they will but it was how they responded from that setback how
03:10they got back themselves back into it and they did very well um the press again you know they
03:15never changed from the south I think that's the one thing the big credit is that give them that
03:18throughout the game they never sat back they never looked uh threatened by Liverpool never
03:22looked scared of the opposition didn't give them too much credit you know which they can do they
03:26weren't they were never standoffish and they deservedly again I think took the lead through
03:30Anthony Gordon again exactly creator uh found Gordon a bit of space and this time Gordon with
03:34a little bit of an angle to work with took it nicely on right foot and shot past the goalkeeper
03:39um into the far corner it was it was a well worth goal and one deserved at that point uh and
03:45Isak had another goal disallowed it was disallowed you know he was on on the shoulder the whole game
03:50um the assistant was right enough that he's out just straight offside you know what it was again
03:54it was another evidence of this and Gaston attacking to that world and counter-attacking
03:58work and they were really good um getting in getting in spaces and getting in behind the
04:04Liverpool defence which pushed high but they were then hit with two sucker punches um more sellout
04:10to be fair had a tough time against Lewis Hall Lewis Hall was brilliant for about 70 odd minutes
04:14and then I think they did nothing wrong after that I don't think I think it's just Anthony
04:18Gordon was playing a little bit high he wasn't getting the protection against Salah and then
04:21Trent came on on the right and him Salah linked up for that um for the equalizer second equalizer
04:27that was um brilliant link up between them and then Salah found a little bit of space having
04:32just gone down moments before that looked like potential dive and Maddie didn't give a penalty
04:37but also didn't rep around Salah two minutes well not in two minutes the area 30 seconds later the
04:40ball finds Salah in the box and Salah pokes home but the controversial moment just before that
04:45before this Salah potential dive was Alexander Isak played through um takes it past Jarel Kwan
04:50then Jarel Kwan gets nothing of the ball gets Isak, Isak goes down referee doesn't point to the spot
04:56and VAR for some reason don't don't overturn the decision I'm baffled by that one that is a real
05:01strange decision Andy Manley I think got a lot of things right today but I think he got a lot of
05:04things wrong a lot of big calls wrong and that was certainly one of them I think that should be a
05:07penalty you know and that's it's a game-changing moment at that point to go give Newcastle
05:11potentially a 3-1 lead to then all of a sudden then two it was 2-2 so that was equalized and then
05:15obviously so 3-2 2-2 I can't really remember to be honest what it was but yeah it would have given
05:20Newcastle a lead or extended lead Liverpool then go a 3-2 and you think is that the sucker punch
05:24is that the one they're really not going to blow you know will their confidence drop will Newcastle
05:28feel the pressure of their last two results they didn't change their style you know Liverpool did
05:34drop back and then you think for a brief couple of minutes Newcastle sort of had the ball but
05:37didn't really have any ideas and you do worry is this going to be a repeat are they going to
05:40struggle to break down a low block a low defense but fortunately they get a free kick
05:47sorry Bruno Demarais takes the sandwich and oh he's gone off by this point Anthony Goulden had
05:51gone off and so you know you're wondering who's going to take it Lewis Hall was there but he said
05:55it was Bruno cross it in deep and everyone it seemed to be everyone in the whole stadium I
05:58think thought that the ball had just gone out for a goal kick but there was Fabian Scherr at the back
06:03post to just get a foot on it and poke the ball over it's unbelievably tight angle but an
06:08unbelievable finish from Fabian Scherr a brilliant you know and much deserved I think Newcastle
06:12really good value from that point and they deserve to get back anyways and and yeah you know that was
06:18I think just in stoppage time I just thought stoppage time to think right can they get could
06:21they get a winner you know we all know 4-3 Liverpool uh they rolled a couple of 4-3s but
06:26Alexander Utah got a free kick to make it 4-3 in stoppage time not went over the bar
06:30uh Liverpool had a shout a weird shout for a handball that hit Dan Burns chest that was an
06:35odd shout from Liverpool but at that point with the decision gone away you did worry that would
06:40that be one that would go against Newcastle it did unfortunately and then the most controversial
06:46finish without their controversy Nick Pope collects uh a cross picks it up throws it out
06:52to Joe Willock uh sorry Alexander Isaac on the left Alexander Isaac and two of his teammates are
06:58attacking three v three and the referee blows a whistle it was a strange strange end of the game
07:02it was a really disappointing end from the referee because you could sense that Newcastle just had
07:06that one more attack it wasn't like it was two or three minutes over um you know it was very close
07:11to when the allotted five minutes should have been uh we've all seen in this game before remember
07:15um two seasons ago at Anfield where the referee played an extortionate amount of added time and
07:19Liverpool benefited from that for some reason the referee didn't think that was a worthwhile
07:23continue you know had been a stoppage for um for a free kick that had been taken a couple of corners
07:29so you know it wasn't like it was a free flow in five minutes and that was it that was a strange
07:33end of the game you know and the crowd did boo him off the pitch lots of shouts at the referee
07:38and it's a shame that that's ended on a little bit of a sour note because to be fair it was a
07:40brilliant game um two brilliant football sides and Liverpool were probably going to go win
07:45win the league um they should have been given their second defeat of the season i think especially
07:49at the end of the game but you know what Newcastle will take point um Newcastle played some of their
07:53best football they've played not just this season but certainly 2024 maybe even since the Champions
07:57League season to be honest it was a fantastic 90 minute display from them and yeah i think it was
08:02one of them brilliant nights at St James' Park and other nights and one that you know Newcastle
08:08need to capitalise on when they get them they didn't last week against West Ham they were
08:11very disappointed with today they were bang at it the crowd was bang at it it's helped Liverpool
08:15celebrate of course it did but you know Newcastle had to respond they it takes two to time though
08:19you know just because Liverpool play like that doesn't mean Newcastle will respond and they did
08:22now they've got to back that up against Brentford unfortunately their defeat against West Ham and
08:26their draw late on against Palace and that one means it's only two points for three games so
08:30they have to go and beat Brentford probably and then you think five points for four games okay
08:33still not brilliant but they're getting back to it um but that's looking ahead look right now it's
08:38a fantastic game of football fantastic performance from Newcastle lots of standout players Alexander
08:43Isak brilliant Bruno Gamaris brilliant Anthony Gordon brilliant Lewis Hall brilliant against
08:48against Mo Salah Nick Portman some brilliancy everyone everyone you know there's very few that
08:52didn't play very well um on that pitch in black and white and yeah it was just a brilliant performance
08:57and after the week of questioning whether some of their big players had needed to step up
09:01whether could have gone stale performance at that show that they haven't gone stale
09:04they just need they just need to be forced into action I think and they were forced into action
09:08today because they were playing a Liverpool team you know who will probably win the league and
09:12yeah they were absolutely fantastic brilliant game of football brilliant advert for the Premier
09:15League and brilliant senior that's my back on it hopefully they repeat that performance against
09:18Brentford at the weekend
