00:00I've heard that you guys really liked the Food Wastage video.
00:14So here I am, Ashish Yatre, with Undekha Nazariya, on Popular Demand, on the topic of Food Wastage Part 2.
00:24It's the age of online food delivery.
00:26Zomato has come up with a promising Food Rescue Funda.
00:30Zomato is making a lot of noise for their innovative Food Wastage Solution.
00:35But then, why are the restaurants on the ground level so angry?
00:39Why is there so much commotion?
00:43Let's take a look at this case in CID style.
00:48Daya, break the door!
00:54In order to solve the online food wastage problem, Zomato has introduced a Food Rescue Policy.
00:59At first glance, you'll only see the platform's good intentions.
01:04And they are.
01:07Food Wastage is seen in different ways on these platforms.
01:11According to me, there are 3 primary categories.
01:15The first one is the cancellation case.
01:17When the order is ready and the delivery partner is present,
01:21if a consumer cancels the order,
01:23then in most cases, the restaurant puts it in the trash can.
01:28Reports say that every month, 4 lakh orders of Zomato are cancelled.
01:33Sometimes, due to the size of the portion and the lack of clear content, food wastage occurs.
01:38And sometimes, due to logistical problems, things like tea, ice cream, juice, etc.
01:44When it doesn't reach the customer on time,
01:46then the food is not edible.
01:48And what happens to that?
01:50Waste!
01:51Now, the first problem that arises from cancellation is statistically the most dangerous.
01:58And common too.
02:01Zomato's Food Rescue Policy has a simple idea.
02:04Relist cancelled food orders on the app at a discounted rate
02:08so that the food is not wasted
02:10and the loss of restaurants and delivery partners is minimized.
02:14People are so attracted to this
02:17because they can get someone else's order at almost half the price.
02:21That is, a promise!
02:23In this policy, for 10-15 minutes of initial cancellation,
02:28this order can be available within a radius of 3-4 km.
02:33Zomato says that in this process,
02:36the delivery partner will get his compensation
02:39and the restaurants will also get their share.
02:41And Zomato will not keep any share other than taxes.
02:44Doesn't it seem like a perfect plan of action?
02:47No!
02:48Apparently, the restaurant owners are very upset with the Food Rescue Policy.
02:55Zomato claims in its promotions that 99% restaurant owners are happy with this program.
03:02But according to this report,
03:04restaurants have rectified many major problems
03:08that can spoil their relationship with Zomato.
03:12Problem no. 4
03:13Restaurants have complained that
03:15implementing this as a policy is a pressure tactic by Zomato.
03:20Looking at this, it seems like it is compulsory for everyone.
03:23Whereas, Zomato has clarified that this is an opt-in initiative
03:27in which restaurants can decide on their own
03:30whether they want to participate or not.
03:33Problem no. 3
03:34Some restaurant owners have called this concept as Greenwashing.
03:38That is, a way to extract more profit in the name of an environmental cause.
03:44The problems that I am going to share next,
03:46they are worth taking a note.
03:48Problem no. 2
03:50The VP of the National Restaurant Association of India,
03:52Pranav Rang Tata says that
03:54the biggest fear in the food rescue process is the stale food.
03:58Because of this, the new consumers can give bad reviews to the restaurant.
04:03Which can impact the reputation of the restaurant.
04:07Problem no. 1
04:08You see, the consumers who order food from a restaurant,
04:12that is, they are regular.
04:14By implementing this policy,
04:15they will get another option other than their regular restaurant.
04:19Which is also cheap and with quick delivery.
04:23Which will spoil the regular base of restaurants.
04:26Which is a very important concern.
04:28This can create unhealthy competition between restaurants.
04:33Before moving ahead, listen to my concern too.
04:36Look, our people are very artistic.
04:39Don't you think it won't be difficult to take advantage of this food rescue service?
04:44Like I ordered food and when I cancelled,
04:47my own friend took it at half price.
04:50No, no, no, I am not like that.
04:52I am just telling a hypothetical situation.
04:54Zomato has said that for this misuse,
04:57they will not show the food rescue option in the immediate proximity of the old consumer.
05:02But still, I mean,
05:03isn't it difficult to take advantage of it?
05:08Zomato is aware of all these backlashes.
05:11You will see that it is getting promotions.
05:14Big newspapers are praising Zomato.
05:18But still, in my Zomato app,
05:20there is no option of food rescue.
05:24I found Zomato's food rescue policy to be a very good initiative.
05:28But work is yet to be done on it.
05:31Until Zomato and restaurant partners solve the challenges together,
05:35the successful implementation of the policy will be difficult.
05:39Otherwise, there can be a problem.
05:48But why are you being stingy?
05:51When you are liking the video,
05:53and talking about your point of view,
05:54then why aren't you liking it?
