00:00:00All right, everyone, welcome back into another live edition of the Patriots Beat Podcast
00:00:29here on the CLNS Media Network presented by all of our wonderful friends over at PrizePix,
00:00:34GameTime and PXG.
00:00:36It is Brian Hines back as always with Alex Barth in week seven is upon us.
00:00:42It's here.
00:00:43The Patriots are momentarily Thursday night here flying across the pond to go to London
00:00:48where they will be taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars, a battle of two, one and five teams
00:00:55on this one.
00:00:56So we will get into that, get into everything going on with the team the last few days since
00:01:00we last talked on Monday, which we're looking at knees, we're looking at injury reports
00:01:05on quarterbacks again.
00:01:06But Barth, before we get into kind of breaking down the game, I mentioned right there two
00:01:13teams that are both one and five.
00:01:16And you know, you see the question online on Twitter, is it better to lose this and
00:01:22maybe help your draft strategy?
00:01:25Or you know, the other argument could be, OK, your rookie quarterback's in there now.
00:01:29Let's start building some momentum in winning some games.
00:01:32So do you lie on one of those two sides or you kind of in the middle where maybe, you
00:01:38know, Drake may looks good and you still lose?
00:01:40Or do you have a strong opinion on on just the direction of this team specifically now?
00:01:46Because you're playing another one of these teams who, when it comes to April, you might
00:01:50be around in the draft order.
00:01:52Well, all right.
00:01:53So let me be clear about a couple of things.
00:01:54I can't believe we have to do this again.
00:01:56First of all, the idea of tanking the concept to throw that word out, throw that concept
00:02:03out to begin with.
00:02:05Tanking happens from the general manager down.
00:02:09General manager up.
00:02:10Sorry.
00:02:11General manager up.
00:02:12There is no incentive for Gerard Mayo or the coaching staff.
00:02:15There is no incentive for any player on the roster for the Patriots to lose games.
00:02:21It doesn't help any of them.
00:02:23Now, what tanking is, is the owner going to the general manager and basically saying,
00:02:31you know, all right, like this year, we're not going to spend a ton.
00:02:34We're not going to make a ton of big acquisitions because we want favorable draft positioning.
00:02:40And you kind of go from there.
00:02:42There's no incentive for the players and coaches to tank.
00:02:45I don't want to.
00:02:46Why are they doing this?
00:02:47Why are they doing that?
00:02:48They should be trying to lose.
00:02:49Blah, blah, blah.
00:02:50Why didn't Bailey's out?
00:02:51We throw a pick on Christmas.
00:02:52Why didn't Chad?
00:02:53Rather miss more field goals.
00:02:54That's not how.
00:02:55That's how it works in Madden.
00:02:56Okay.
00:02:57That's how it works in the show.
00:02:58I do it plenty in Madden in the show.
00:03:00Doesn't work that way in real life.
00:03:01On top of that, even when you do tank, which the Patriots didn't really do last year, they
00:03:05were just bad.
00:03:06Yeah.
00:03:07Like that.
00:03:09You can't be the Houston Astros in baseball or in football.
00:03:14You can't, the Astros sucked for like five years because they knew they would stockpile
00:03:18draft picks.
00:03:19Like it doesn't for a number of reasons.
00:03:21One being the rookie contracts aren't long enough.
00:03:23It doesn't work that way in football.
00:03:26Like you can, it's one thing to tank, to get the quarterback from there.
00:03:32Like no, you risk.
00:03:34And this is something Felker is actually really big on and he's spot on on this.
00:03:38No matter what, it's one thing to be bad for one year.
00:03:41You cannot let losing become habitual.
00:03:46When an organization does that, when you let that in the door, even a little bit, it can
00:03:51be so tough for that to get that out of your DNA.
00:03:56You should be trying to win every single football game just because you, you, you might not
00:04:01doesn't mean you shouldn't be trying.
00:04:03And the last thing on that, like, again, you usually tank for a quarterback because of
00:04:08the way that position is handled in the draft.
00:04:12If they can't get themselves in position through their natural draft selection, or maybe a
00:04:19minor trade here or there, if they can't get themselves in position to draft a tackle or
00:04:24draft a receiver or draft an edge rusher, either one, something went like incredibly
00:04:29right.
00:04:30Like maybe they roll off seven wins here down the stretch.
00:04:33I don't want to hear crap about, Oh, they, they missed out on Kelvin Banks.
00:04:36No.
00:04:37Cause like, clearly there's good players on the team, or if not, like it's on Elliot
00:04:41Wolfe to make it happen, make the trades, get on the phone, right?
00:04:44You shouldn't need it's old.
00:04:47You know, they needed the, I like, I like will Campbell and they need the third overall
00:04:50pick to get will Campbell.
00:04:51They're going to finish fourth now.
00:04:53And it, no, if Elliot Wolfe believes will Campbell's, the guy make the move, get up
00:04:57to three, especially with the, the, the quarterback teams in, in this draft.
00:05:02So you don't want to become the nineties bulls being the, the early 2010s, Houston
00:05:09Astros does not work like there's no tank here and people are going to send me tank
00:05:15a thought after the one where they're like, I'm not saying we can't have fun with it.
00:05:21Like I get it.
00:05:22And it's something to follow during the season and they're not in the playoffs, but like
00:05:24that's what we're doing.
00:05:25We're having fun.
00:05:26Like we can have fun with that.
00:05:27It's a little early, but we can have fun with that.
00:05:29Let's save tank it on to like November, at least maybe the, the, at least till after
00:05:36this week.
00:05:37Is there any, a really good idea of who Kelvin banks is this week when Texas plays Georgia
00:05:41on Saturday, I, that, that means more for the Patriots draft than whether they beat
00:05:46the Jaguars or not, if we're being honest, but like, let's not do tanking.
00:05:51Let's not do any of that.
00:05:52Like let's, let's beat, you know, like look at this through rational lens.
00:05:57I know I'm asking for a lot.
00:05:59The players are not going to go out there and throw the game.
00:06:02The coaches are not going to go out there and throw the game because of one draft position
00:06:06come April.
00:06:07They're out there trying to win.
00:06:08They should be out there trying to win.
00:06:09If they're not, if like the coaching staff is looking at, we need a sock or I've seen
00:06:13some people be like, well, Drake may through a bunch of picks because he wants to make
00:06:16sure he loses.
00:06:17So he wants, so we make sure that he gets the left tackle.
00:06:20If Drake mays purposely thrown interceptions and I, for the record, that's like, so not
00:06:24true talking to the guy.
00:06:26I don't think that could be further from the truth.
00:06:27Yeah.
00:06:28Coaches, players, anybody's out there purposely trying to lose because of draft stock.
00:06:31They need to go.
00:06:32And I don't think that's the case, but if it was, they got to go.
00:06:37Cause you cannot let that in your organization.
00:06:38I'm sorry to go on a rant there.
00:06:40I did this last year.
00:06:41It just, it bugs the crap out of me that people still to this day, you can look at what happened.
00:06:47I always go back to the nineties polls.
00:06:50Like it's a very specific thing that does have its place.
00:06:55It's kind of like, remember the thing with Mac and Zappy last year, the quarterback competition
00:06:59where it was like the start of the year when it wasn't a competition camp and camp where
00:07:04it was like, what you're describing is a very specific thing that requires a very specific
00:07:08set of circumstances that do not exist.
00:07:11Like this is that the team being bad does not equate to tanking.
00:07:16The team struggling to win games does not mean they should purposely lose more games.
00:07:21That's not what's going on here at all.
00:07:23Sorry to go on a rant, but that, that one gets under my skin.
00:07:26No, you're good.
00:07:27You're good.
00:07:28But it's.
00:07:29It's more of a fun thing.
00:07:30Like we do on Twitter.
00:07:31Right.
00:07:32Well, you guys have said with tank.
00:07:33I didn't know you were, I thought you were, cause I've seen people legitimately say it.
00:07:35I didn't know that that was supposed to be like a fun jumpstart.
00:07:38I've seen it both ways, which I think, you know, it's good.
00:07:41I know you, the rant is the ramp, but I think it's good that you went on the rant.
00:07:45Cause again, no one in that building is tanking and right.
00:07:48Like for my, like my kind of philosophy is sure.
00:07:52Like even us sitting here and Elliot Wolf, when he's on the clock, I'm sure when it's
00:07:57all said and done, like when we do our mock drafts, what I'm saying, like we'd rather
00:08:01be at three than six, right?
00:08:04Cause it opens up your more avenues.
00:08:06You get a better player, but once you get the quarterback, which we all assume and hope
00:08:11the Patriots have in Drake may, and they won't have to address that position for a long time,
00:08:16like the spots between three and six.
00:08:18Isn't that big of a deal?
00:08:19I would much rather get some wins on the board.
00:08:22You get your rookie's confidence up.
00:08:24You get people in the building, you know, the other players, and then that can still
00:08:27help your team because now the next Brendan Iuke is going to say, Hey, that kid looks
00:08:32pretty good.
00:08:33They're winning some games.
00:08:34Okay.
00:08:35I want to go there.
00:08:36Maybe it's T Higgins.
00:08:37So you can still, even though you're winning and you're hurting your draft position, you
00:08:40know, you're still helping your team and Drake may looks good, which is the most important
00:08:45thing right now.
00:08:46If he's winning games, that that's a huge sign and a great sign for them.
00:08:49So I'm with you on that, but I thought that was just kind of relevant.
00:08:53Cause again, it's two, one in five teams here.
00:08:57And I see that question a lot on Twitter.
00:08:59So good rant, good, good to get out, but maybe actually a winnable game here for the Patriots,
00:09:04the Jaguars who knows where their level of kind of buy-in right now is.
00:09:10We were saying, you know, watching them at Gillette, they played in London last week.
00:09:13So we were watching them before, you know, May's first start.
00:09:16And we said, is Doug Peterson's job safe?
00:09:20Like they're staying in London.
00:09:21Can you fire Doug Peterson if you have another week in London there?
00:09:25So not a great start for the Jaguars, really bad defense, one of the worst passing defenses
00:09:32in football.
00:09:33So it should be a good opportunity for Drake May.
00:09:36We talked a lot about May.
00:09:38You want to see them continuing to build, continue to grow.
00:09:41So how does, what do you want to see from Drake against this kind of measly Jaguars
00:09:47passing defense and defense as a whole?
00:09:49So two big things, I guess, kind of relate, well, three things, two from him, one from
00:09:52the coaching staff.
00:09:53Uh, the big one, I mean, you can't turn the ball over three times.
00:09:56Like that's not sustainable.
00:09:58I'm not saying he can't turn the ball over.
00:10:00Like I get it.
00:10:01He's that kind of quarterback.
00:10:02We all know that the guy everybody loves to compare him to leads the league in turnovers
00:10:06every year, which I guess isn't a big deal to anybody, but me, zero interceptions.
00:10:12Fair.
00:10:13Okay.
00:10:14And he's called another four or two.
00:10:15I wish they lost to the jets.
00:10:16That would have been easier.
00:10:17They should have lost to free Tyler Bass.
00:10:19The one bills player I like, um, Oh no, it wasn't him.
00:10:23It was the Zerline being washed.
00:10:25Anyway.
00:10:26We won't revisit that.
00:10:27Um, they both missed kicks for combined miss kicks in that game.
00:10:30Um, so like, look, I understand he's never going to be towards the bottom of the league
00:10:33in turnovers.
00:10:34I get that.
00:10:35What's the three turnovers a game.
00:10:36That's what is that?
00:10:37That's like 50 turnovers for the season, right?
00:10:39That's an absurd pace.
00:10:41Can't be that high.
00:10:42Uh, you know, you gotta try to keep it to one, a game, maybe one, every other game.
00:10:46So, and that's not right away.
00:10:47Like I get it.
00:10:48He's still a rookie.
00:10:49He's still learning.
00:10:50It's kind of a bad defense.
00:10:51So limit those turnovers, uh, to accuracy, there's going to be misses again.
00:10:55I get, he's never going to be Tom Brady completely surgical, but he had some bad misses, especially
00:11:00early on.
00:11:01I guess where those two kind of come together is he talked about being too jacked up, right?
00:11:06The adrenaline, the anxiety, all of it, and, um, just, you know, deep breath.
00:11:11He's got to kind of learn and it's not going to come in one week.
00:11:14I understand that he's got to learn to, you know, keep playing with passion because that's
00:11:18good and his passion is part of it and you know, be fired up, but don't let it cause
00:11:25negative plays.
00:11:26I don't want to set the standard as Tom Brady for the kid, cause he's never going to get
00:11:30there.
00:11:31No, this is a Brady's elite traits is an elite of an elite where he could play with this
00:11:36incredible level of passion, but it would never work against him.
00:11:40It always worked with him and is something that Mack Jones never figured out.
00:11:44Like Mack Jones would either be way too high or way too low.
00:11:47And he never found that middle ground with Drake may, like he found it later in the game.
00:11:51He settled in as a lot of quarterbacks too, but like, let's see it off the top, right?
00:11:55Get those jitters out pregame, um, and, and, you know, settle in and, and be accurate.
00:12:00And then the third thing I'm looking for, and this is from the coaching staff, but obviously
00:12:04it relates to him is.
00:12:08Let's see.
00:12:09I want to see some design runs form, or at least like read options, like plays where
00:12:13it's designed from at the chance to run Randwell last week.
00:12:16Those were all scrambles though.
00:12:17None of those look designed as best as I could tell none of them were designed.
00:12:21So I, you know, especially with the running game struggling, I would guess for Mondra
00:12:25Stevenson's not going to play again since he didn't practice yesterday or today.
00:12:28Let's see if we can get the kid's legs involved in, in, you know, a little quarterback read,
00:12:33read option.
00:12:34I'd love to see a little speed option.
00:12:37I don't think that's going to happen, but like just, just something where his legs become
00:12:41a factor I think would be interesting.
00:12:43Yeah.
00:12:44And Jacksonville, one of the worst, I think they're like 27th, 28th, like defending scrambling
00:12:51quarterbacks.
00:12:52So that's an area where they've been hurt this year.
00:12:54Caleb Williams got them for like 40 yards on two scrambles last week.
00:12:57So you can beat them on the ground as a quarterback.
00:13:01Now we can say Drake may has been on the injury report with a knee issue this week.
00:13:07Now he's been a full participant Wednesday and Thursday.
00:13:10We saw him out there today.
00:13:12Didn't look like he had any brace or anything or a wrap on that knee.
00:13:17He was moving around fine.
00:13:18He looked normal.
00:13:19He was thrown on the run.
00:13:20He was wearing sweats.
00:13:21So like you couldn't see exactly, but I'm not too concerned.
00:13:26I don't know.
00:13:27Are you concerned about that at all?
00:13:29We'll see if he travels.
00:13:31I think it'll be fine.
00:13:32I think he's going to be starting.
00:13:34But are you worried about anything with the knee?
00:13:36You know, I was a little worried last night, just the way it was all reported.
00:13:40But seeing him today, it legitimately looks very minor, if anything.
00:13:45So maybe they have to, you know, talking about the quarterback run game, they dial that back
00:13:51or I don't want to.
00:13:52You can't really dial back because he didn't do it last week, but they leave that out of
00:13:56the game plan again because, you know, maybe you don't want him running around on a bum
00:14:00knee there.
00:14:01So going forward, definitely that should be something they add into the playbook.
00:14:05And then I'm with you on the sprays and the interceptions, and they kind of go hand in
00:14:08hand because, you know, the first interception was a spray, right?
00:14:11So maintaining some of those dialing back, some of those accuracy issues, and then, you
00:14:16know, I can't turn the ball over three times.
00:14:19So yeah, but I think it's a really good defense for Drake made a go against like maybe 300
00:14:28yards.
00:14:29I think he's going to throw him for 300 yards in this one, really carving them up.
00:14:32I don't know.
00:14:33When's the last time we've had a 300 yard passer like Mac week one last year?
00:14:37I was going to say, I think Mac in the opener last year, Mac in the opener, which you're
00:14:40like 350 in that game, didn't he?
00:14:42God, it feels like 10 years ago.
00:14:44He was like, I think he was like fantasy QB one that week.
00:14:48Yeah, he was.
00:14:49We were all like Bill O'Brien did it.
00:14:52Everyone was like, it was like Mac was QB one and like fantasy terms.
00:14:57Hendrick Bourne was like a top 10 and then Hunter Henry was like a top five tight end
00:15:01and everyone's like the Patriots offense.
00:15:03Here we go.
00:15:04And then, but like most of that was garbage time, I think kind of because they were down
00:15:08right away.
00:15:09So but yeah, I think it's a really good opportunity for Drake here to kind of build off a successful
00:15:14first start, even though there were some hiccups and they lost the game.
00:15:17And I think he could have some success here against the Jaguars defense, but they do need
00:15:23to protect them.
00:15:25And Jaguars, like the pass rush as a whole isn't great, but they do have Trayvon Walker
00:15:33and Josh Heinz Allen on the edge who are two of the top, you know, pressure guys in the
00:15:38league.
00:15:39What's the Patriots offensive line looking like if you had to guess?
00:15:42And can they stop those guys from really kind of taking this game over?
00:15:47Do you think I can't even keep track of what do we got?
00:15:50We got I mean, it sounds like they're gonna move Michael and went back out of the tackle,
00:15:54which I hate.
00:15:55But I guess they don't really have an option, especially since they didn't sign anybody.
00:15:57So it's.
00:15:58DeMontre Jacobs at left.
00:16:03Michael Jordan, Michael Jordan at left guard, Ben Brown back at center.
00:16:08It should be city.
00:16:09So at right guard, they just seem done with them.
00:16:12So it'll probably be late Robinson.
00:16:14I don't get it.
00:16:15Like Leighton Robinson's not ready.
00:16:17He's not.
00:16:18He's not a good enough pass block.
00:16:19He's good in the run game.
00:16:20Not a good enough pass blocker.
00:16:21Maybe so.
00:16:22Hasn't been amazing, but he's just a more complete player.
00:16:24We'll see there.
00:16:25And then Michael went right tackle.
00:16:26Yeah, I'm worried about it.
00:16:27You're back to the only two guys who are playing in position in that line.
00:16:35One guy that got hurt last week.
00:16:38And another guy that has been on the team for the time they play the game, 10 days.
00:16:45Those are the only two guys in position and Leighton, but like he's a rookie who's had
00:16:49some.
00:16:51Three and a rookie and your two tackles are out of position, so yeah, I mantra is technically
00:16:57a left tackle, but he's been playing right back.
00:16:59Yeah, he's been, I, it's a mess.
00:17:01The whole thing's a mess.
00:17:02I mean, how many times do I have to say it?
00:17:05They didn't do enough, not just in the off season in previous weeks to, to develop enough
00:17:10depth and get enough guys ready.
00:17:11And they're throwing guys in left and right wrong spots without experience, not knowing
00:17:16the playbook.
00:17:17Like it's just, it's, it's going to be another tough one.
00:17:20And Drake took some shots in that last game and there's one where he gets up and he's
00:17:26grabbing at his shoulder.
00:17:27There's another where he gets up and he's limping pretty significantly and like he finished
00:17:30the game and he's moving around fine now, but that can't be every week.
00:17:36If that's every week, he's not going to make it to the end of the year.
00:17:38We're going to see Jacoby reset again.
00:17:41So they got to figure something out because this, I know guys will get healthy, right?
00:17:46They'll get veterinarian low back when somebody else is going to get hurt.
00:17:50And then you'll get that guy back.
00:17:51And somebody else was like, that's just line play in the NFL.
00:17:54The fact that they haven't addressed this externally, they just keep signing, cutting
00:17:58and signing centers.
00:17:59Right.
00:18:00When's the last time they brought in like outside of the practice squad, like a real
00:18:02guard or a real tackle, they haven't done it despite losing bodies and it's kind of
00:18:06mind blowing.
00:18:07Yeah.
00:18:08And as we're talking about that, they just ruled the Darien low out for a Sunday.
00:18:14So yeah, it looks like I would imagine it's DeMontre, DeMontre Jacobs back at left tackle.
00:18:20And then Michael Jordan, Ben Brown laid in Robinson and Mike and when you, as you said,
00:18:24the city.
00:18:25So thing just to revisit that, that is weird because he spent the whole summer as they're
00:18:30starting left guard.
00:18:31And I know that, you know, the coaching staff likes Michael Jordan, but like city played
00:18:35right guard last year.
00:18:38And that was one of the few things that team had going for them, like city next to big
00:18:41Mike and you could just run behind those two.
00:18:44So was he that bad against San Francisco that they were just like done with him all of a
00:18:49sudden?
00:18:50And they just want to ride through like Leighton Robinson, even though, you know, he's a rookie
00:18:53and he had some issues in past pro, but well, I would guess some of it is, and you get this,
00:18:57uh, excuse me.
00:18:58I got us.
00:18:59Oh, I did.
00:19:00You thought I did.
00:19:01I guess not.
00:19:02If you listen to catch 22, you know, it's been a problem for me all day.
00:19:04I don't know why I'm not sick, but, um, what was I saying?
00:19:08Yeah.
00:19:09You see this sometimes we have new coaching staff, new front office, right?
00:19:11Leighton Robinson's there.
00:19:12Guy's city.
00:19:13So it's the last guy's guy.
00:19:14And I understand it's like, all right, well, you know, this is the guy we picked.
00:19:17We want him to work out, but at a certain point, you just got to see what's on the field.
00:19:20You got to see what's on the tape and trust your eyes and city.
00:19:23So like you said, I mean, it wasn't great in his first game back, but Leighton Robinson
00:19:27has been a liability and pass protection.
00:19:30And especially when you're going to have two backup tackles.
00:19:34Yeah.
00:19:35It makes me a little nervous.
00:19:37Yep.
00:19:38I think, uh, maybe a few days, uh, games off for Leighton Robinson, maybe kind of gave
00:19:42him a mental reset and that will make things look a little better to be fair.
00:19:46That worked for city.
00:19:47So last year.
00:19:48That's very true.
00:19:49Yeah.
00:19:50So maybe we, we will see a little bit more of an improved, uh, Leighton Robinson, which
00:19:53would be a nice bonus, uh, there on the offensive line, but yeah, Walker and Heinz Allen, uh,
00:19:58they kind of have the ability to take over games.
00:20:01They're definitely not like Will Anderson or Danielle Hunter, like as consistent and,
00:20:05you know, as, as those two, but the ability is definitely there.
00:20:08So that will be a worry, uh, with, with the offensive line and the tackle position.
00:20:12But, um, before we move on to the skill position players here for the Patriots, I want to tell
00:20:18you guys about prize picks, which is the best place to get real money.

00:20:42So make sure you stay tuned to that and you can also extend it to the rest of the league.
00:20:47We have a barn burner, uh, new Orleans saints, Denver Broncos, there's been a football game
00:20:52tonight.
00:20:53Barth is put in his boy, Bob means in all his lineups, week six touchdown scorer, Bob
00:20:59means I should say, uh, and you know, a lot of injuries going into this Thursday night

00:21:32first $5 lineup on price picks, run your game.
00:21:36And again, we'll submit, uh, we'll walk through our lineup for the patch Patriots, Jaguars
00:21:40game at the end of the show.
00:21:41So make sure you guys stay tuned for that, but, uh, moving on the rest of the Patriots
00:21:47offense here, guessing we'll, they haven't ruled Romandre Stevenson out, but I'm guessing
00:21:52we're not going to be seeing him.
00:21:54He hasn't practiced all week still with that, that foot, uh, injury.
00:21:58So that will leave, uh, Antonio Gibson.
00:22:01Next up.
00:22:02Uh, do you think they can get a little bit more on the ground here?
00:22:06Cause they, they struggled last week, obviously it's Houston, but, uh, can they get a little
00:22:10bit more there on the ground, even if they don't have Romandre, do you think?
00:22:13I mean, I just think cause the Jags are worst defense probably, but I'm still a little worried
00:22:18about the run game.
00:22:19Like they weren't able to hold many holes last week and worst offensive line this week.
00:22:23And you did last week and we talked about it on Tuesday, that hidden yardage that Romandre
00:22:26Stevenson gives you, unless they're going to run like more trail Jennings, maybe Kevin
00:22:30Harris gets a shot.
00:22:31I still think it could be an uphill battle there.
00:22:34Yep.
00:22:35So if they ruled out low, but not Mandrake, does that mean Mandrake made the trip?
00:22:39Do you think probably, yeah.
00:22:42So maybe there is some encouragement there that he could be ready to go.
00:22:46So, uh, we'll see, but yeah, just the worst defense.
00:22:49So maybe they, uh, you'd like the run game to look a little bit better, but we'll, we'll
00:22:54see.
00:22:55So, uh, pass catchers, a lot of praise this week for Keisha and booty for his work off
00:23:00the field.
00:23:01Alex van Pelt had good things to say.
00:23:03Even his teammates tomorrow, Douglas, uh, Kendrick Bourne had a lot of praise for booty
00:23:07there.
00:23:08So you imagine a similar kind of shakeup in the receiver room with him, Kendrick Bourne
00:23:13and pop Douglas has the top three.
00:23:15And then where are you at with Jalen Polk, kind of a interesting week for him in the
00:23:21media where, where are you at with that receiver room and, you know, against this Jaguars defense
00:23:25too.
00:23:26Well, I think you have to give Jalen Polk a chance to bounce back with, with catching,
00:23:32right.
00:23:33It, it's so mental that if you sit him down or you don't throw him the ball, now he's
00:23:38thinking about it even more.
00:23:39And the next time he goes out there, there's that much more pressure.
00:23:41Honestly, what I would do if I was them is scheme something up.
00:23:44Name, not the first play, but like early in the game, give him a layup, like a screen
00:23:49or something where he has a free release on a short route or something, and it can just
00:23:53be pitching, catching, just let him get a catch, right.
00:23:56Let him catch the ball.
00:23:57Move on.
00:23:58Cause you just, you don't want that to become mental.
00:24:00You don't want that to become a thing.
00:24:01You don't want it to become the yips because that can be really hard to dig your way out
00:24:04of.
00:24:05I still think he can be a good player, but you can't obviously can't keep dropping the
00:24:08ball.
00:24:09So give him one that will maybe get him in a rhythm beyond that.
00:24:12Like, yeah, I think it's going to be the same group.
00:24:14Like, I don't think Taekwondo is going to play a ton of it all.
00:24:16I don't think KJ Osborne is going to play a ton of it all.
00:24:19You mentioned Keishon booty.
00:24:21So what was so crazy about that pass, the deep ball to me was like, that's not, I'm
00:24:27not saying that was a bad play, but like, that's not what he does.
00:24:30That's not usually his bag, right?
00:24:32You go watch him at LSU.
00:24:34It's all middle of the field stuff where he's creating after the catch, uh, his first and
00:24:39second year in college before he really fell off as a junior.
00:24:43I think more half or more than half of the yards came after the catch.
00:24:46So you've been like, sorry to interrupt, but like Patriots fans, like his member, his first
00:24:52or second preseason game, it was just like a 10 yard slant.
00:24:57And then he just housed it.
00:24:58Like that was his game more at LSU, right?
00:25:01That's Keishon booty like that.
00:25:02When he did that, it's like, all right, yeah, that's the guy I've seen at LSU, you know,
00:25:06beating Derek Stingley, clean down the field, holding a 40 yard pass that I mean, if it's
00:25:11in his bag now, great.
00:25:13That's awesome.
00:25:14If he added that, that's not what he was doing, but so like, all right, you now have teams
00:25:18seeing that.
00:25:19And he's also been good on curls.
00:25:21So are, are they going to play more often?
00:25:24Because if he's getting off coverage, like start running him over the middle of the field,
00:25:27start running drag, start running slants and get him back in that role he was in in college.
00:25:33I'm interested to see if the Jaguars strategy is reactionary, like how reactionary it is
00:25:38to the game he had last week.
00:25:39And then if it is, I think there's some real opportunities there for the Patriots to take
00:25:43advantage of that.
00:25:44Yeah.
00:25:45Speaking of that, like reactionary, do you think, is it too early for a team like Jacksonville?
00:25:53You know, Drake may had a lot of success against man coverage last week, Jacksonville plays
00:25:58a lot of man.
00:25:59That's been the recipe against the Jacoby preset Patriots, like play a lot of man and
00:26:02these receivers.
00:26:04Is it too early that you think a team will be like, okay, we got to like game plan differently
00:26:08for Drake may.
00:26:09And you think we might see some of that already this week?
00:26:12Maybe if anything, like I think the guy that maybe gets more game plan for his pop Douglas
00:26:18and the Jaguars are, I think last in the league in terms of, yeah, I guess slot receivers
00:26:23specifically.
00:26:24So that's when we're, it's like, well, this guy can kill us.
00:26:26Like if this guy gets going, we have no shot and it's let's take the, and honestly, if
00:26:31I'm game planning for the Patriots right now, especially seeing the way they ran the ball
00:26:34last week, they're not beating me with pop Douglas.
00:26:38They're going to beat me throwing a case on booty to Jalen Polk, to Hunter Henry, right?
00:26:41They're not beating me, throwing a pop Douglas.
00:26:44So that's where I wonder, does he get extra attention?
00:26:47Does he get bracketed?
00:26:48Does he get to level coverage?
00:26:50And then if he does, who steps up and I go back to, if you're going to cash on booty
00:26:54one-on-one on the outside with potentially soft coverage, I'm picking on that underneath
00:26:59all day.
00:27:00I will take that as long as he'll give it to me again, mix Jalen Polk in there and one-on-one
00:27:05try to get him some easier ones.
00:27:06And then I'll let Hunter Henry go up and down the field too.
00:27:08But yeah, if I'm, if I'm the Jaguars, it's not so much about game planning for Drake
00:27:13may at this point, a little bit, but I'm more just looking at like, all right, most of the
00:27:18damage you did last week was to three.
00:27:20We got to take three away and make them go somewhere else with the ball.
00:27:23Yep.
00:27:24Yeah, definitely agree with you there.
00:27:26So but encouraging from, from booty the last few weeks and you know, especially just, you
00:27:32hear what the coaches have to say about him behind the scenes, because you know, sham's
00:27:36asking the chat here.
00:27:37Well, we see Jayvon Baker this week.
00:27:39It's kind of like the opposite, but kind of similar trajectory, right?
00:27:43Like Jayvon Baker feels almost like cash on booty last year in a sense, but now, you know,
00:27:49you see booty trying to like, he's putting it together off the field and he's getting
00:27:52his shot on the field and it's looking good.
00:27:55So shams, like, I still doubt we see Jayvon Baker.
00:28:01Definitely not this week, I would say, and probably not in the immediate future.
00:28:04Maybe that's something at the end of the season more, but probably no Jayvon Baker anytime
00:28:09soon on that offense.
00:28:11So but agree with you there.
00:28:13I also will add just going back to the offensive line quick, Mike Reese said a low had his
00:28:17MRI on Monday and it came back with an ankle sprain and he's expected back in the near
00:28:22future.
00:28:23So maybe some good news there.
00:28:25It's not a serious thing.
00:28:26Doesn't sound like he's going to go on IR or anything, but obviously we do know of a
00:28:31player that got an MRI.
00:28:32We do know that that happened.
00:28:34So one MRI is confirmed.
00:28:39Still I don't think anyone's confirmed the other MRI yet, but we will, I guess we'll
00:28:44see about that.
00:28:45So anything else on this Patriots offense for this week or we can move over to the defense.
00:28:53So I guess I'll kind of use this to transition to the defense.
00:28:59Gerard Mayo laid out on Wednesday as a point of emphasis setting the intention, intensity
00:29:06and starting fast.
00:29:07So basically setting the tone, right?
00:29:10You think there's a chance if they win the toss, they take the ball.
00:29:13I was thinking about that.
00:29:15I would not be opposed to it because you started last week was 14, nothing out of the
00:29:24gate.
00:29:25Miami, did Miami score their first possession?
00:29:28I don't think so.
00:29:29I think, I think they did.
00:29:31Let me look.
00:29:32I think they did.
00:29:33It was also Miami though, but well, but is it also Miami or even Miami?
00:29:39No, even Miami, they got a field goal in their first possession, but they scored on their
00:29:44first possession.
00:29:45Okay.
00:29:46And then the one time they got the ball first was against San Fran and they, you know, pumped
00:29:51it over the 50th and San Fran drove down the field and, you know, kick San Fran ripped
00:29:55off 20 unanswered.
00:29:57Yeah.
00:29:58So I would almost be opposed if you have the chance, taking the ball and letting Drake
00:30:03may go out there right away and seeing if you can get a lead and try to shake things
00:30:09up because again, you said they've been focusing on these fast starts.
00:30:11So I would be for that.
00:30:13I don't know.
00:30:15Are you in that same boat of switching things up there?
00:30:17I wouldn't be like, not permanently, but like for this one game, it's also a neutral field,
00:30:22right?
00:30:23So you get, you know, the crowd on your side and yeah, I, I get, they, they need some sort
00:30:28of spark there.
00:30:29Hang on.
00:30:30Let me, I have the numbers here.
00:30:31Hang on.
00:30:32Let me pull them up.
00:30:33Um, so in the first quarter of this year, offensively, the Patriots ranked 29th in scoring
00:30:40in 27th in yards for play defense.
00:30:44They ranked 25th in scoring in 20th in yards per play.
00:30:47So yeah, the defense is a little bit better than the offense, but the point is like, they
00:30:50have not been, they are a bottom third first quarter team.
00:30:55Why not switch things up into your point?
00:30:56Like, all right.
00:30:57So they didn't get the ball or they got the ball against the Niners.
00:31:02I do think, especially with the young team, there's a little bit of a difference between,
00:31:08all right, we lost the toss.
00:31:10So we're getting the ball and we're taking the ball to start the game.
00:31:14Like that sends a little bit, right.
00:31:17Sends a message.
00:31:18So they got to change up something that they're doing early because it's not working.
00:31:22And whether it's the pregame speech, whether it's the warmup routine, whatever, like they're
00:31:26not coming out of games, they're not coming out of the gate well.
00:31:29So yeah, you take the ball, you see what it does.
00:31:33You're one in five, right?
00:31:34Worst case scenario, it doesn't work.
00:31:35You're one in six.
00:31:36Like, all right.
00:31:39So we got to change something else then.
00:31:41Right exactly.
00:31:42Just start hitting buttons at this point.
00:31:44That's not a bad button to hit.
00:31:46Yeah.
00:31:47It's a good point.
00:31:48I was definitely thinking about it.
00:31:49I think me and Taylor might've been talking about it the other day, but like, again, you
00:31:52got to change something and that would be a way to, if you want a faster start, that
00:31:56could be a way to kind of shake things up and start faster there.
00:32:00So we'll see, they are, they're the road team.
00:32:03So they will get to call the coin toss and then, you know, we'll obviously see, but good
00:32:09idea.
00:32:10I mean, now that we went, now that we blew five minutes on this, they'll lose the toss.
00:32:12They'll just happen.
00:32:13Lose the toss.
00:32:14Yeah.
00:32:15That'll be how it goes.

00:33:57What time is it?
00:33:58Game time.
00:33:59All right.
00:34:00All right.
00:34:01You mentioned Wembley stadium.
00:34:02You know, I got to bring this up.
00:34:03Wembley stadium is interesting because there's no home team.
00:34:07The home team is like the British national team, but there's no, like the English national
00:34:10team.
00:34:11Like we were talking about this earlier this week, how weird would it be if we had a stadium
00:34:15that was essentially built by the government?
00:34:17That was just like this 95,000 person stadium.
00:34:20That was just like, all right, we're gonna play a super bowl here.
00:34:23We're gonna play, you know, like, and it's just like essentially for the super bowl.
00:34:27And then there's also like, all right, big, you know, international soccer games, concerts.
00:34:32You'd play like a college football playoff game there.
00:34:34March madness.
00:34:35Like it's kind of a wild concept, right?
00:34:38Yeah.
00:34:39I mean, we were debating where you would put it.
00:34:41I think we settled on Vegas.
00:34:42Yeah.
00:34:43Catholic.
00:34:44I like nailed it.
00:34:45We were doing like Houston, Dallas, LA, Miami, and the couch was like Vegas and we're like,
00:34:49oh yeah, that's, that's right.
00:34:51So their, their stadium isn't big.
00:34:53Their NFL stadiums like the third smallest in the league capacity.
00:34:57Well, cause it's all, it's all luxury suites.
00:35:00Oh, that makes sense.
00:35:01So that like, it looks big, but where you could fit like a hundred seats is actually
00:35:07a 20 person luxury.
00:35:09Yeah.
00:35:10That makes sense.
00:35:11So we're going to get new Las Vegas owner, Tom Brady in on this and we're going to build
00:35:15a hundred thousand seat stadium out there in Vegas to hold all your, just our Taylor
00:35:22Swift concerts and then our super bowls and all that.
00:35:26And you can only buy tickets on game time.
00:35:28That's one of the requirements.
00:35:29Yeah.
00:35:30Game time stadium.
00:35:32Or Tom Brady field at game time stadium, Tom Brady field at game time stadium.
00:35:36You can't have like a specific super bowl stadium and not name it after Tom Brady.
00:35:40That would be malpractice.
00:35:41That's very true.
00:35:42That's very true.
00:35:43So that was our discussion, thought starter experiment, whatever you want to call it in
00:35:51the locker room the other day while we were waiting for some players to talk.
00:35:54So that's how we were passing our time with that, that discussion.
00:35:57But Patriots defense, Jaguars offense, Jaguars offense hasn't been great, but they still
00:36:08have some decent weapons.
00:36:09Brian Thomas jr.
00:36:10Is an electric rookie.
00:36:12Gabe Davis is Gabe Davis.
00:36:13We're obviously pretty familiar with him.
00:36:15He's inconsistent.
00:36:17And then Christian Kirk in the slot there, Trevor Lawrence has not been shy of kind of
00:36:23bombs away, throwing the ball down the field.
00:36:25So with those bigger receivers too, which has been a problem for the Patriots, how are
00:36:30you kind of matching up?
00:36:31Are you shadowing everyone?
00:36:34Is this a week where, you know, Christian Gonzalez can just kind of play a side and
00:36:37accept whoever comes over there.
00:36:39But how are you kind of moving these chess pieces to match up with those Jaguars weapons?
00:36:43Because I know the offense hasn't been great again, but they have some pieces there that
00:36:48could frighten you.
00:36:49Yeah, this is actually, I know we've talked about them wanting to play more man and I
00:36:53do want them to play more man.
00:36:54But this is actually not a bad week for zone.
00:36:56If you look at it, Trevor Lawrence is not, he hasn't thrown a pick this year under pressure.
00:37:01His completion percentage is much lower, but like he hasn't turned a ball over under pressure.
00:37:06He's I know he's getting a lot of crap outside of that weird couple of weeks where he was
00:37:11just like running and spinning into sacks.
00:37:13He's been pretty good.
00:37:15It's everybody around him.
00:37:16They had six drop touchdown passes or six passes dropped in the end zone.
00:37:20Some of them was like one was dropped and another was dropped.
00:37:23So they weren't, you know, if you don't drop the first one, the second one doesn't happen.
00:37:26But like, it's been bad around them.
00:37:29Honestly, this might be a week to just flood it with zones and, and force him to pick you
00:37:33apart.
00:37:34And if I had a match it up, I'd probably go Gonzalez on Thomas Jonathan Jones on Calvin
00:37:40Ridley.
00:37:41Go vet on vet there.
00:37:42I actually, nah, no, Jonathan Jones on Christian Kirk, Christian Kirk's a better player.
00:37:48Marcus Jones on Ridley.
00:37:49Yeah.
00:37:50I guess you could switch that.
00:37:51But again, not Ridley, Ridley's in Tennessee.
00:37:55Right.
00:37:56Davis, sorry.
00:37:57Davis.
00:37:58Um, right.
00:37:59Well, he hasn't been good either.
00:38:00Uh, yeah, this is not, this would not be a bad week to just kind of flood it with zones
00:38:03rush forward.
00:38:04They haven't got much of a pass rush, but that hasn't been the problem for the Jaguars.
00:38:09Like they're wide receivers.
00:38:10Aren't running the right routes.
00:38:11They're not catching the football, not holding onto the football when they catch it.
00:38:15I would just force the wide receivers to make plays.
00:38:18Yeah.
00:38:19I think, are they last in the league in drops?
00:38:21I believe.
00:38:22I was just trying to pull that up, but it's slow.
00:38:26Let me see.
00:38:27Dun, dun, dun, dun.
00:38:28Um, I can tell you individually, second most.
00:38:36What did you have?
00:38:37No, I, I, so it pulled up the individual one for me, not team.
00:38:40Do you know how many drops of Mark Cooper has through six games?
00:38:44It's a lot.
00:38:45Isn't it like 11 or something?
00:38:4610.
00:38:47Oh yeah.
00:38:49More than a drop.
00:38:50The next closest guy is five.
00:38:51He's pulling the, uh, he's pulling like the Houston James Harden right now.
00:38:57And it worked cause he got out of there to Buffalo, but we'll see how it looks in Buffalo.
00:39:00And look, I'm usually somebody who says that drops are overrated.
00:39:05Like look at drop percentage.
00:39:06Like Julian Edelman used to lead the league in drops every year, but it's cause he was
00:39:09getting 130 targets a season, 11 drop, more passes, 11 and six games though is yeah, no,
00:39:17that's excessive.
00:39:19That's too many drops.
00:39:20Yeah.
00:39:21So, uh, receivers, Jaguars receivers, 14 drops this year, which is the second most in the
00:39:29NFL.
00:39:30So only four more than Calvin Ridley individual.
00:39:32I'm not going to get over this.
00:39:33I'm sorry.
00:39:34That's just an absurd number.
00:39:36May have dodged a bullet on that one.
00:39:38Yeah.
00:39:39Drops McGee over there.
00:39:40Yeah.
00:39:41And he's already calling out his offensive coordinator or coach or whoever's calling
00:39:45down there.
00:39:46Yeah.
00:39:47He didn't get enough targets early in the game.
00:39:49He didn't see that.
00:39:50Oh, I thought you meant he called out the bills coordinator.
00:39:53Oh no.
00:39:55Calvin Ridley.
00:39:56Oh, not Calvin Ridley.
00:39:57I was talking about Amari Cooper.
00:39:58Did I say Calvin Ridley before Amari Cooper is 10 drops.
00:40:02You're really dialed in on Calvin Ridley this show.
00:40:04I know.
00:40:05I don't know what's wrong with me.
00:40:06Amari Cooper has 10 drops in six games.
00:40:07Oh no.
00:40:08You said Amari Cooper had drops, but then you said only four more than Calvin Ridley.
00:40:16He went back to Calvin Ridley.
00:40:17I don't know.
00:40:18He was second with.
00:40:19Yeah.
00:40:20Yeah.
00:40:21Okay.
00:40:22Whatever.
00:40:23Okay.
00:40:24Okay.
00:40:25But I was like, is Amari Cooper already calling out the OC in Buffalo?
00:40:26That would be, you know how much I'd love that.
00:40:27That would be.
00:40:28That would be.
00:40:29All right.
00:40:30Well, long story short, the Jaguars drop a lot of passes and so does Amari Cooper and
00:40:34Calvin Ridley is a massive Tennessee.
00:40:36We'll talk about Calvin Ridley in a few weeks when they play the tight.
00:40:41Oh no.
00:40:42I know.
00:40:43Cause when you said the Patriots dodged a bullet, I thought you were talking about like
00:40:45trading for Amari Cooper.
00:40:46No, I meant.
00:40:47Cause some people wanted them to do that either way.
00:40:49They dodged a bullet.
00:40:50Yeah.
00:40:51Yeah, exactly.
00:40:52So, um, a lot of drop passes, I guess, in the NFL this year, but, uh, what were we even
00:41:00talking about to get into that?
00:41:02Uh, oh yeah.
00:41:03Patriots corners.
00:41:04Yeah.
00:41:05Maybe play more zone this week if you do go, man, I would, yeah, I agree.
00:41:09I liked Gonzalez on Brian Thomas.
00:41:11Uh, that would be a fun matchup to watch.
00:41:13So, um, but also defense, you know, Gerard Mayo was asked Wednesday.
00:41:20We see a lot of these repeat errors, a lot of penalties.
00:41:23And he said, you know, like we're going to send a message.
00:41:27We're going to make some lineup changes.
00:41:29I think the obvious one that jumps out to everyone is Raekwon McMillan, right?
00:41:34Like he's been kind of a repeat offender there on that second level in the run game.
00:41:39So replacing him who you got and anyone else, do you think that whole, we're going to switch
00:41:46the lineup too?
00:41:47And it was specifically when he was asked about defense, like I saw some people asking
00:41:51if that could include like Jayvon Baker or stuff along the offensive line, it was directed
00:41:55towards the defense.
00:41:56So, you know, replacing McMillan again, and then anything, anyone else, do you think he's
00:42:01kind of talking about in that group there with these, some lineup changes coming?
00:42:05Oh yeah.
00:42:06The obvious one, right?
00:42:07Like you said, Raekwon McMillan out, Christian Ellison.
00:42:10I also hope that kind of means it's a change.
00:42:13It's not a benching, but let's get Jelani to buy back on the edge where he's, you know,
00:42:18can actually play.
00:42:20That will help.
00:42:22I do wonder if, if you know, Josh Uche, Keon White, one of those guys now they don't have
00:42:28a ton of depth on the edge.
00:42:29I don't know who you're putting in for them, but Mayo said that specifically when asked
00:42:33about penalties.
00:42:34And those are two of the most penalized players on the defense this year.
00:42:38So swap them out.
00:42:42If you're playing Ellis off the ball, I don't know who's going on the edge or is it Curtis
00:42:45Jacobs who just went on IR today?
00:42:48Is it just survive moving down there to get them out of the lineup?
00:42:51Does Ellis place them on the edge as well?
00:42:53I feel like I'm missing somebody in that, in that whole equation, but yeah, I wouldn't
00:42:57be talking.
00:42:58Yes.
00:42:59The only talkie talkie play more.
00:43:01I don't know if he could play off the ball to put Ellis on the edge or vice versa.
00:43:05I wouldn't be surprised if one or both of those two guys has less run this week.
00:43:09Yep.
00:43:10Demarcus Covington made it seem like Christian Ellis is going to play a much bigger role
00:43:15early downs off the ball, you know, probably for McMillan there he's been, Ellis has been
00:43:19mostly kind of that third down a linebacker, but he's probably deserved more of a role.
00:43:25And that's been helped by McMillan's a struggle in place.
00:43:28So expect to see maybe more Christian Ellis there on early downs.
00:43:31And then I kind of agree with Keon white, like a lot of those big runs when you look
00:43:36at it, like they're towards Keon white side, but then it comes who you put in out there
00:43:42for them.
00:43:43Like, are you going three defensive tackles in there and really just trying to suffocate
00:43:47the run like that?
00:43:48And then, you know, maybe Keon comes in for passing down situations.
00:43:52So that's one where, you know, maybe you'd like to make that move to send the message,
00:43:56but do you just have the depth there behind to do that?
00:43:59And can you afford to take Keon white off the field at some point?
00:44:02So that one will kind of be interesting to watch there.
00:44:05But yeah, as Mayo said, there will be some lineup changes coming this week.
00:44:09So we'll see what else he's got in store.
00:44:12So anything else there?
00:44:15Defense side of the ball.
00:44:16Again, like the pass rush hasn't been great.
00:44:20I just, I wouldn't worry about it too much this week.
00:44:24Like we'll get to the jets next week and that becomes a whole other story, right?
00:44:27I'm not saying don't worry about it for a year or anything like that.
00:44:30I'm not saying it's been good enough.
00:44:31It hasn't.
00:44:32I just don't the way this matchup looks.
00:44:36I don't know how much pressure is going to change what the Jags are doing one way or
00:44:39the other.
00:44:40Yep.
00:44:41That's fair.
00:44:42That's fair.
00:44:43So let's wrap up with some special teams.
00:44:47We don't have a funky scoreboard in Wembley stadium, like the Germany field last year.
00:44:53They had like that overhanging low scoreboard.
00:44:55So nothing to worry about from a stadium perspective, it seems like, but anything you're looking
00:45:02for in particular here with the special teams unit against the Jaguars?
00:45:07Uh, well, no penalties, right?
00:45:10That's kind of becoming a problem again, and we'll see how things get changed there.
00:45:14Hang on.
00:45:15Let me get this bought out of here.
00:45:16I got it.
00:45:17I just deleted the comment.
00:45:18You got it.
00:45:19All right.
00:45:20Yeah.
00:45:21Um, the first like time we stream the show live, there was a huge problem for people.
00:45:23So now I'm always very sensitive about it.
00:45:25Um, yeah, outside of that, Behringer is kind of, they had a, had a rough punt last week.
00:45:32Like, see if he can get back on, continue that 50 game streak or that 50 yard, uh, plus
00:45:37punch streak.
00:45:38By the way, speaking of punter league, Oh yeah.
00:45:45The guy who got the last pick is in first place alone.
00:45:49He's also got like one point against through six.
00:45:51I think it's negative.
00:45:52Well, cause I, uh, I was playing one of the, one of the listeners last week and I think
00:45:58he ended up with like minus 19 cause he had a AJ Cole who had a pump ball.
00:46:04Yeah.
00:46:05You have.
00:46:06So in your defense you have 40 points.
00:46:08What I was setting up as we finally get the Patriots beat matchup and to me and Brian
00:46:10this week.
00:46:11Yeah.
00:46:12So in your defense you have 40 points for, which is second most in the league, but you
00:46:16also have negative one points against through six weeks.
00:46:22I mean, like I pick putters that don't get, I shouldn't say it knock on wood, but like
00:46:26apparently so my buddy was at the game last week and hurt people talking about this at
00:46:31a tailgate.
00:46:33Our league.
00:46:34Yeah.
00:46:35Or eight.
00:46:36How many punter leagues are there?
00:46:37That's also fair.
00:46:39So like I, we gotta, I'll tell Mike, we gotta get the updated standings out.
00:46:44I don't have access to the Twitter, but do we actually have bolt CLNS matchups this week?
00:46:50No.
00:46:51Mike, Mike and Taylor both play some of the Patriots beat matchup.
00:46:59So for Pete, it's Johnny Hecker, Rigoberto Sanchez, who just won special teams player
00:47:03of the week.
00:47:04And Ethan Evans for me, you have Cody Bohorquez, Jordan Stout and Tommy Townsend.
00:47:09Oh, so it's probably going to come.
00:47:11He's almost always come down to the last one.
00:47:14So we're going to like have to lock in Monday night.
00:47:16Yeah.
00:47:17I need Gillen to come back.
00:47:19I don't know if he's playing this week.
00:47:21He's questionable right now.
00:47:22Oh, you could play him too.
00:47:23Yeah.
00:47:24Well, I wouldn't take, he'd go in for Townsend probably.
00:47:27So I will have Stout Monday night, which will probably decide this thing, which would be
00:47:33fun when he throws.
00:47:34The projection is 50, 50, so.
00:47:3550, 50.
00:47:36At least they get you when Torrey Taylor's on by so I can, don't have to root against
00:47:41Torrey Taylor.
00:47:42I think Torrey Taylor is like one of the highest scoring players in the league.
00:47:46He is ranked 14th right now.
00:47:50Is he?
00:47:51Oh, I thought.
00:47:52Oh, because he had a bad week last week or two weeks ago or something.
00:47:56If I go, I was looking at this the other day.
00:47:59Here we go.
00:48:00So the most points in the league is Riley Dixon, Broncos, Rigoberto Sanchez is a second.
00:48:09Then Jack Fox, Rigoberto and Jack Fox are tied for second.
00:48:13Berger is Bryce's fifth, died for fifth was 16 points.
00:48:17And there are how many punters, one, two, three, four, five punters with negative points,
00:48:24which now ski Cole, Jake Bailey, brain man, Ryan Stonehouse is negative 25.
00:48:28Did he, he must have two blocked crazy because he's like one of the best punters in football.
00:48:35So I got to figure out next year.
00:48:37Maybe we did it on Yahoo where it's supposed to be minus 25 for punt return touchdown or
00:48:43minus 15 for punt return touchdown, not a block.
00:48:45So maybe I got to fix that, but yeah, yeah, he had week one Stonehouse week one and week
00:48:52two, he had blocks and then last week he had five punts in just one touch back.
00:48:59So he was negative last week too.
00:49:01So we'll, we'll, we'll tweak the scoring here as we go.
00:49:04We'll keep this thing going.
00:49:05We'll tweak the scoring as we go.
00:49:06Yeah.
00:49:07You know, it was, it was year one.
00:49:08We'll see how it goes.

00:51:54We'll see how it goes.
00:51:55We'll see how it goes.
00:51:56We'll see how it goes.
00:51:57We'll see how it goes.
00:51:58We'll see how it goes.
00:51:59We'll see how it goes.
00:52:01No international game next year.
00:52:02I'm done with it.
00:52:03I get it.
00:52:04It's good for the game.
00:52:05Oh, you know, it's, it's been a topic this week.
00:52:06No London Superbowl, Roger cut that out.
00:52:09I get you got to placate the crowd, but one, I don't even know what time you're going to
00:52:13play the game.
00:52:14Cause there's, there's no way it works.
00:52:15You're not going to have a 1 PM Eastern Superbowl.
00:52:19You're not going to kick it off at 11 PM there.
00:52:23What happens if you get a West coast team in it, which is very possible for the chiefs
00:52:27two time zones behind us one, two, they're an hour, I think.
00:52:32Is it only an hour?
00:52:33Okay.
00:52:34But still, so you're talking about a six or seven hour difference.
00:52:37I forget what the British do for daylight savings.
00:52:39It's a little different than us, but like he just, it, you can't have it.
00:52:45You can't have it aside from the fact that like it's a Superbowl, it should be held here.
00:52:49It should be held in NFL stadium or the Superbowl specific stadium we're going to build in Vegas.
00:52:53Like it's, I think, I do think playing internationally is important.
00:53:00I do think growing the game internationally is important and I know the players don't
00:53:03love it.
00:53:04And as a general rule, I'm, I usually try to be pro player.
00:53:07Like if the players don't like something, I don't like it.
00:53:11But I think growing the game internationally is good.
00:53:15You're starting to tap into markets.
00:53:16I think Germany more than London is more than England is more just culturally built for
00:53:21it.
00:53:22You know, you see, it was a little weird.
00:53:24Brazil was weird, but like you see them go to Germany.
00:53:27That makes sense.
00:53:28They want to play a game in Australia.
00:53:29That would make a ton of sense.
00:53:31You put West coast teams over there.
00:53:33Maybe it's to send the West coast teams.
00:53:34You play some games in Japan or in Korea.
00:53:37Like I, that would make sense to me, maybe China.
00:53:41But I know that's kind of the NBA thing.
00:53:44Like I think that's good.
00:53:45I think growing the game internationally is good and will help, but there is a tipping
00:53:50point.
00:53:51And to me, like doing it like this, like have one or two games in London a year, have one
00:53:56or two games in Germany a year, have one game in Australia, have one game in Japan.
00:54:01Cause it, football's actually like sneaky big in Japan.
00:54:04They're, they have like a whole college football culture over there.
00:54:07Um, they play the Japan bowl every year.
00:54:09We're a team of like Ivy league, like football players, like the Ivy league all-stars go
00:54:14over and play the Japanese league all-stars.
00:54:16They do that at the end of the season.
00:54:17So like, it's, it's, it has some traction over there.
00:54:19I'm not just randomly saying Japan cause it's closer to California or whatever.
00:54:24Um, but like, it makes sense to do that, but you gotta, you can't get over the top with
00:54:31it because it's, you're going to create more problems than you're solving.
00:54:34So like, I, I don't like the international games on an individual.
00:54:38Like they annoy me.
00:54:39I don't want to get up that early to watch football.
00:54:41And uh, you know, the fan, you look at the fans, it's, you see 30 people in 30 different
00:54:46teams, jerseys.
00:54:47Like, it's just weird.
00:54:48And it's a pain in the ass for the players, but I do think they serve an important purpose,
00:54:52but let's, I actually, the, the NFL used to be so good at knowing exactly how far to push
00:55:00something.
00:55:01Right.
00:55:02They would come up with these great innovative ideas and let them stand on their own in the
00:55:04last few years.
00:55:05It's too over the top.
00:55:06It's too much with it.
00:55:07It's it's, it's, you know, I worry about them oversaturating the product.
00:55:11This is one where like, I think you have a really good balance with these international
00:55:16games right now.
00:55:18Don't touch the international element beyond this.
00:55:21Don't play a Superbowl over there.
00:55:22Don't put a team over there or over anywhere I need to say there, like leave it out is
00:55:27right now.
00:55:28It's good.
00:55:29It makes a lot of sense the way it is.
00:55:30Yep.
00:55:31It was nice.
00:55:34They used to feel like they just sprinkled the bin every now and then.
00:55:37And like, it was nice.
00:55:38But like last year it felt like there was an early morning game, like every week of
00:55:41the season, which was way too much.
00:55:43I was just looking now.
00:55:44It actually doesn't look that bad.
00:55:46They have obviously Patriots, Jaguars, London this week.
00:55:50And then yeah, not till week 10 is Giants, Panthers in Germany.
00:55:55And then I wasn't seeing any other, I think that's it.
00:55:57Yeah.
00:55:58They did three London games, a Germany game in the Brazil game earlier this year.
00:56:01Yeah.
00:56:02So I would even go back like Brazil was a mess.
00:56:04I'd go back to Mexico city like that.
00:56:08And yeah, to this point, if they're actually going to expand internationally, like you
00:56:12could probably put a team in Toronto or Vancouver, like you, you could probably get away with
00:56:16that.
00:56:17Uh, I guess Toronto would be tough with the bills.
00:56:19No, I think you could still support that.
00:56:22I know a lot of people in Toronto or bills fans, but I think that would switch if you
00:56:26put a team there.
00:56:27Um, I don't know how the CFL would feel about that, but that's another story.
00:56:29But like if you want to put a T, if you want to say you have an international team, go
00:56:32to Canada.
00:56:33You want to play games, London, Germany have, I don't know if they played one in France
00:56:37that you could probably play one in France, um, Mexico city, Tokyo, Sydney, Australia,
00:56:45like that all like individual games there, it makes sense, but like individual games,
00:56:49not a team, not a super bowl.
00:56:52Yeah.
00:56:53Don't overdo it.
00:56:54Definitely don't overdo it.
00:56:55So, uh, let's wrap up Patriots Jaguars preview with our prize picks lineup of the week.
00:57:02Any players that you're thinking about, you're thinking good about, I mean, first thing to
00:57:08me, this is one of the hottest props on prize picks.
00:57:11Drake may 202 and a half passing yards.
00:57:15I think again, I think he could hit 300 this week.
00:57:19So I like 202 more than that, 202 and a half.
00:57:23Yeah.
00:57:24Definitely more than that.
00:57:25Um, any of his receivers you feeling good about pop Douglas Hunter Henry.
00:57:30I mean, pop Douglas's numbers are probably huge.
00:57:32I feel good about him, but I feel like, uh, it's probably pretty high four and a half
00:57:36receptions or 44 and a half receiving yards.
00:57:39That's a lot lower than I thought it was going to be at four and a half receptions.
00:57:43I mean, what do you have?
00:57:44Six last week?
00:57:45I had nine targets, nine targets against the worst slot.
00:57:47We can probably go both of those.
00:57:48We probably have more on both of those 44 and a half yards.
00:57:51Like that can be done in one.
00:57:52That can be done in one play.
00:57:54Yeah.
00:57:55Especially, you know, Jacksonville is playing a lot of their man to man.
00:57:57Uh, he's shown that ability to, uh, beat that at one catch.
00:58:01So, uh, what else we got at the bottom there for rushing?
00:58:04I feel like we, the last rushing might make sense.
00:58:07Um, they might, I don't think they don't have any right now because remandre status is still
00:58:13kind of up in the air.
00:58:15Uh, we do have Hunter Henry, 29 and a half receiving yards, three receptions, Joey slides
00:58:21back on there, one and a half field goals made.
00:58:24And that's, you know, one of those demons that are a little harder.
00:58:27So this could be a big field goal game.
00:58:29Okay.
00:58:30Let's go more on Joey sly.
00:58:31So that gets our multiplier to eight.
00:58:33Perfect.
00:58:34So then we can put one Jaguar player in there.
00:58:36Whoa, no way.
00:58:37We got to find our sickos game.
00:58:39Oh yeah.
00:58:40So we have read the Jaguars quick.
00:58:42See if you like, uh, Brian Thomas, 53 and a half receiving yards, uh, their kicker one
00:58:50and a half field goals made Christian Kirk, 44 and a half receiving yards, Evan Ingram,
00:58:5836 and a half receiving yards, Gabe Davis, 34 and a half receiving yards.
00:59:02Trevor Lawrence, 236 and a game where Gabe Davis goes off, doesn't it?
00:59:08Just because of his size.
00:59:09Yeah.
00:59:10Has Gabe Davis had a game this year?
00:59:12Like he's always got the one random game where he drops like a hundred yards.
00:59:15Yeah.
00:59:16I don't think he's had that yet.
00:59:17I know he's on the injury report this week, but, um, he has had, he had 62 yards in the
00:59:25opener.
00:59:26He hasn't had more than 50 cents.
00:59:28Yeah.
00:59:29He had negative two receiving parts.
00:59:30One week.
00:59:31That's the most Gabe Davis thing I've ever seen.
00:59:34So he's due.
00:59:35He's sadly due for like a hundred yard receiving game.
00:59:37Wait, this has to be a typo.
00:59:38It says five targets, one catch for negative two yards.
00:59:41And his longest catch was five yards.
00:59:45What week was it?
00:59:46Let me pull them up.
00:59:47Gabe Davis, uh, week four.
00:59:53Why does he ask him?
00:59:54That's gotta be a typo.
00:59:55Why does he not come up on pro football?
00:59:58Oh, he's Gabriel Davis.
00:59:59That makes sense.
01:00:00I was going to say, oh, against Houston, one reception, his lawn of five, but two yards.
01:00:13That's gotta be a typo, right?
01:00:17I don't know.
01:00:21Can I look?
01:00:22Let me see if I go.
01:00:24I got the game log.
01:00:25Oh, because he, um, I see they ran a hail Mary on the last play and he ended up with
01:00:29it like on a lateral loss yards.
01:00:31Oh, so that's funny.
01:00:34Okay.
01:00:35Yeah.
01:00:36Um, so wait, cause we gotta, we gotta add one from the random game.
01:00:39Like we do.
01:00:40What?
01:00:41What's the worst game?
01:00:42So are we going Gabe Davis more than 34 and a half?
01:00:45Yeah.
01:00:46Okay.
01:00:47We'll put it out in there.
01:00:48Then we'll go.
01:00:49What's the worst game bangles at Browns or Raiders at Rams?
01:00:51Oh boy.
01:00:53Let's do Raiders.
01:00:54Let's get a Tom Brady game in here.
01:00:55All right.
01:00:56All right.
01:00:57Let's see.
01:00:58Raiders.
01:00:59It was even Aiden O'Connell starting.
01:01:02All right.
01:01:03Oh yeah.
01:01:04Aiden O'Connell, 211 and a half pass yards.
01:01:08Half an interception.
01:01:10Oh, we could go to Kobe Myers on here.
01:01:14Yeah.
01:01:15Jacoby 49 and a half receiving yards.
01:01:18I was going to say like more than half the interception for Aiden O'Connell doesn't really
01:01:24throw picks though.
01:01:25He just kind of sucks.
01:01:26Yeah.
01:01:27You want to go more?
01:01:28Jacoby Myers?
01:01:29Sure.
01:01:30We'll put Jacoby in there.
01:01:3150 yards as his, I mean, he's wide receiver one now with Devante Adams.
01:01:35Yeah.
01:01:36All right.
01:01:37I like that pick.
01:01:38That's a good pick.
01:01:39And, uh, uh, the Rams defense, nothing too special.
01:01:44I think their corners are hurt anyway.
01:01:45So yeah.
01:01:46I mean, they're everything.
01:01:47They're probably the only team more injured in the Patriots.
01:01:49Yeah.
01:01:50Honestly.
01:01:51Yeah.
01:01:52He had 72 last week against Denver.
01:01:54He's got three of the five games and one of those other games, he had 49.
01:01:59So I've had a stardom a few weeks in fantasy.
01:02:01It's like, it all comes in garbage time, but Hey, yards are yards.
01:02:05Like, what are you going to do about it?
01:02:07So our lineup this week, Drake may more than 202 and a half passing yards, pop Douglas,
01:02:16more than four and a half receptions and a 44 and a half receiving yards.
01:02:20Joey slide more than one and a half field goals made on Jacksonville side, Gabe Davis,
01:02:26more than 34 and a half receiving yards and our random game.
01:02:29We're going to be sitting.
01:02:31What's that?
01:02:32Five for five, four o'clock window will open up.
01:02:35Jacoby Myers.
01:02:36We can all root for old friend, Jacoby, more than 49 and a half receiving yards.
01:02:40We get as a multiplier.
01:02:42This is our biggest multiplier yet.
01:02:43This is a get to 20.
01:02:44This is a 23 time.
01:02:45So if you use code, if you use code CLNS, if you play just the $5 on that lineup, it's
01:02:58115 payout.
01:03:00If you get the $50, you'll get $50 instantly.
01:03:03If you play that, you don't even have to win.
01:03:06If you want to put the $50 multiplier on that lineup, it's a $1,150 payout right there.
01:03:13Six for six, right?
01:03:15Six or six.
01:03:16I'm feeling good about that.
01:03:17So again, go to prize picks, promo code CLNS, play $5, get $50 instantly, whether you win
01:03:24or lose, but we're winning this week.
01:03:26I feel good about it.
01:03:27We'll tweet out that lineup.
01:03:29I don't even think we can fit all six in a screenshot.
01:03:33We'll get the lineup out on game day again.
01:03:35So if you guys want to play along with us, a 23 X multiplier, we're, we're due for this
01:03:41one.
01:03:42I feel good about it.
01:03:43So again, promo code CLNS on prize picks.
01:03:47Let's quickly wrap up before we get out of here.
01:03:49It's a huge college football weekend.
01:03:50So we got to talk about it, um, pulling up the slate or first while I pull this one up,
01:03:57any thoughts?
01:03:58I mean, last week was an awesome slate to Ohio state, Oregon, uh, any, anything from
01:04:03last weekend and then anything you're looking forward to this weekend, Alabama, Tennessee.
01:04:08Um, there's one other, Oh, Georgia, Texas was, was the other big one.
01:04:12So any college football thoughts that last weekend, this weekend?
01:04:17Uh, well, so last weekend, one, I I've said this, like, I think Ohio state is like rocks
01:04:24or rises the best team in the nation.
01:04:26And I've said they should win the national championship.
01:04:28I didn't pick them to win it, but I said they should, well, you saw last week is why they
01:04:32won't.
01:04:33That team has no idea how to win a tough game.
01:04:36None.
01:04:37I fought Ryan day more than will Howard in that situation.
01:04:41I actually think there should have been a second left on the clock.
01:04:42I don't think it would have mattered.
01:04:43Like they didn't, they weren't going to hail Mary's still probably too far for a field
01:04:47goal, but that team just doesn't have the stones on the other side.
01:04:51Dan Lanning, we need to have a conversation about him being the best coach in college
01:04:54football.
01:04:55Now he's awesome.
01:04:57He's awesome.
01:04:58The 12 man defense was brilliant.
01:05:01That's an old buddy Ryan trick from back in the day, and now they're going to out, uh,
01:05:04out rule it.
01:05:05But, um, what he's done with that program, I don't even particularly like Oregon.
01:05:10Like I, that offense really annoys me, but landing is that just on such a good job with
01:05:16that program as a whole, like as a program builder, um, not that it need to be like built
01:05:20up from scratch, but they had a couple of rough years there, rougher years before he
01:05:24came along from where they were with, with chip Kelly.
01:05:26Um, so that was really impressive.
01:05:29And I mean, I feel like the sec is wide open, right?
01:05:32I mean, we'll see what happens with Texas, Georgia this week.
01:05:34If Texas beats Georgia, they're sitting pretty, but that's a tough game even in, uh, even
01:05:38in Austin.
01:05:39Um, I mean, Bama after the big Georgia win, like you lose the Vandy, then they buy South
01:05:45Carolina and then you have Tennessee that barely be Florida.
01:05:51Who sucks.
01:05:52They need a Graham Mertz, Tara's ACL to win that game.
01:05:55I mean, DJ LaGue is, Oh yeah.
01:05:57Don't wait to Florida.
01:05:58Be Tennessee last week.
01:05:59They did.
01:06:00No, no.
01:06:01They lost an overtime.
01:06:02They were winning the whole game.
01:06:03And then Tennessee got like 10 points in the fourth, I think.
01:06:06I'm excited to see DJ LaGue, but LaGue, but yeah, like that Alabama, Tennessee game is,
01:06:13that's like a clench game, right?
01:06:14That's like, they're both sitting there teetering and I, they've obviously both only have one
01:06:18loss and they're both ranked in the top 15, but like relatively speaking, they're both
01:06:22sitting there teetering.
01:06:23They're both sitting there having a couple of rough weeks as with Tennessee lost to Arkansas
01:06:27and then came back and almost lost to Florida, Alabama lost to Vanderbilt and almost lost
01:06:31to South Carolina.
01:06:33Whoever loses that game is in danger of really slipping away.
01:06:36I think if you lose that game, I'm not going to say you're out of the playoff, but you're
01:06:41going to need a lot of help to get in because you're probably not making the SEC championship.
01:06:46And then Texas, Texas, Georgia will just be a good game.
01:06:49And obviously that one has, you know, significant draft implications for the Patriots.
01:06:55Georgia's edge rusher, Michael Williams is a projected first round pick.
01:07:00So I would assume he'll line up mostly across from Calvin banks for what it's worth.
01:07:04Will Campbell LSU there at Arkansas, Arkansas has a couple of good edge rushers as well.
01:07:08They're younger.
01:07:09They're not draft eligible guys yet, but a good test on, on, on both sides there.
01:07:14But what a week last week was, and it should be good.
01:07:17Good week this week.
01:07:18Again, it already has been like these midweek games have been good.
01:07:20If you've checked those out and BC tonight at Virginia tech, I know our buddy Kevin stone
01:07:27who covers them was not very optimistic about tonight for BC, but that's, that's very true.
01:07:34But yeah, it starts with, or doesn't start, it continues with BC tonight and then yeah,
01:07:38an awesome slate this weekend.
01:07:41And as you said, some big time prospects get in some of those big time games.
01:07:45So it should be good from a Patriots perspective, but if anyone wants to get out and enjoy the
01:07:51warm weather this weekend and maybe miss some of the college football on Saturday those
01:07:57are more at night.
01:07:58Although no Bama texts, Bama, Tennessee was three 30, right?
01:08:02And then I am in Tennessee is three 30, Georgia, Texas is seven 30, seven 30, the new window.
01:08:06There's like five games in the new window.
01:08:08Like none of them are good.
01:08:09So Miami Louisville.
01:08:10Okay.
01:08:11Yeah.
01:08:12So, but perfect time, maybe in that noon window, you can get out for an early tea time Saturday
01:08:16morning or even tomorrow, the weather's going to be nice all weekend and even into next
01:08:22week.
01:08:23We're going to be at the midst back into the mid seventies.
01:08:25So a good time to get out on the golf course and get some last golf in before the cold
01:08:31weather really comes.
01:08:33And Barth and I are always looking to improve our golf game, hit the ball straight or farther
01:08:38and not having to worry about trying to hit everything perfect to make a good shot.
01:08:42So we both headed over to PXG to upgrade our clubs in our bag.
01:08:48We went to the PXG in Framingham.
01:08:50We both got the black ops irons.
01:08:52It was awesome.
01:08:54You go in, you get fitted, you can hit on the simulator.
01:08:58You get all your trackman data to see how hard you're hitting it, how far you're hitting
01:09:02it.
01:09:03I was putting 40, 50 yards of distance.
01:09:05I was hitting the ball harder miles per hour wise.
01:09:09Barth was like up there with the pro tour numbers on his ball speed to club speed ratio
01:09:15or something like that.
01:09:16Right?
01:09:17Yup.
01:09:18You know it.
01:09:19So awesome clubs, awesome experience.
01:09:22Again, we went to PXG at Framingham.
01:09:25I, uh, my buddy, my guy, Brian hooked me up, uh, Brandon hooked Barth up at, in the Framingham
01:09:30location and we're getting out there and we're, our golf games have improved because of the
01:09:35clubs hitting them farther, hitting them straighter and all of that.
01:09:37So upgrade your guys' bags with the PXG clubs and take your game to a whole new level for
01:09:43a limited time.
01:09:44You can save $10 per club.
01:09:46So head over to pxg.com and use code CLNS that's pxg.com code CLNS to save $10 per club
01:09:54on your order.
01:09:55pxg.com code C L N S you're getting out there tomorrow, right?
01:09:59I think he said, I'm hoping to, all my friends have to work like, like losers.
01:10:05Their work isn't in London.
01:10:07They're not, they're not on London time tomorrow.
01:10:09Nope.
01:10:10Blame.
01:10:11So, uh, all right, Gerard Mayo and Drake May are talking early in London.
01:10:16So maybe we'll get some update on the quarterback status and if he did get an MRI, I think that's
01:10:219.
01:10:22AM.
01:10:23So, uh, we'll have you covered at real Alex Barth on Twitter at I am Brian Heinz on Twitter.
01:10:28You can also, uh, head to 95 sports hub.com to read Alex's written Patriot's coverage
01:10:33and head to Pat's pulpit.com to read my written coverage there as well.
01:10:39We will be back next week to break down Patriot Jaguars, maybe a crossover.
01:10:43I think we were talking about that with Taylor and Mike, so no promises, but, uh, it looks
01:10:49like we might be trending in that direction.
01:10:52So we'll let you know.
01:10:53So as always, make sure you're locked on to Patriot's press pass and Patriot CLNS on Twitter
01:10:57as well.
01:10:58So thanks everyone for tuning in with us tonight.
01:11:01Have a wonderful football weekend.
01:11:02Enjoy the nice weather and we will see you next week.
