00:00:00Alright everyone, welcome back into another live edition of the Patriots Beat Podcast
00:00:29here on the CLNS Media Network presented by our wonderful friends over at PrizePix and
00:00:34GameTime.
00:00:35It's Brian Hines back as always with Alex Barth, and he enjoyed our preview so much
00:00:41last week.
00:00:42Taylor Kyles is back in the house.
00:00:44He was just looking like Kendrick Bourne dancing behind closed doors before we started there.
00:00:49So he's pumped up to join us to preview Patriots at Dolphins this week going back down to Miami
00:00:57at the House of Horrors for the Patriots in recent years.
00:01:02Definitely 0-6 against Tua in total, but it's been a struggling place for the Patriots to
00:01:08play down there in Miami.
00:01:09So I don't know, where do we want to start this one?
00:01:12I'll open up to you guys.
00:01:13Offense, defense, do we need to start with coaching again?
00:01:16And Barth talked about Mike McDaniel, but any thoughts on where to kind of kick this
00:01:21one off?
00:01:22Well, if you want to talk about coaching, I think something really interesting is it
00:01:26relates to last week's game and the big story from last week's game, which was the defensive
00:01:31game plan.
00:01:32And look, we can debate exactly how much the usage of Christian Gonzalez was at fault.
00:01:38But at the end of the day, what they did didn't work.
00:01:40Plain and simple, like it was not a good game for Demarcus Covington.
00:01:44And there were two major issues within that.
00:01:49Not just the volume of blitzes they called, but the lack of effectiveness of any of those
00:01:54blitzes.
00:01:56Those hand in hand and the Rams ability to throw them off with motion.
00:02:01So they called a ton of blitzes, never adjusted off of that when that wasn't working.
00:02:05And they never really adjusted a ton in coverage to handle the Rams motion.
00:02:09Well, here's the thing about Miami.
00:02:12Two things stand out about their offense.
00:02:13One, everybody knows motion, emotion more than anybody in the league.
00:02:19There's different philosophy behind it.
00:02:20It's a different ends to a mean, but you know, from 10,000 feet, like you got to be able
00:02:26to handle wide receivers going in motion and things changing right before the snap.
00:02:29The other thing about Miami's offense, Tua has the highest passer rating under pressure
00:02:34of any quarterback in the NFL this year.
00:02:37Taylor, I know you've shared that stat that he's a perfect passer rating when he's flush
00:02:40from the pocket or when he's throwing outside the pocket.
00:02:44Blitzing is not going to matter in this game.
00:02:46Like there's really not much to gain by blitzing the Dolphins because Tua hasn't been phased
00:02:52by that, unless you know you're going to get home, which this team can't do, Tua hasn't
00:02:55been phased by that pressure.
00:02:57So a lot of this year has been about learning, right?
00:03:00It's been about development for players, but coaches as well, all right, you know, made
00:03:04a mistake.
00:03:05Let's see if it's a rookie mistake, mistake repeaters, or is it a mistake repeater thing
00:03:09as Gerard Mayo's talked about.
00:03:11Big time game for Demarcus Covington and some of these things you have to wait four or five,
00:03:15six weeks, maybe over the course of the whole season to really figure out where the individual's
00:03:20at or where the group is at, um, in terms of learning from their mistakes.
00:03:25Demarcus Covington, we're going to get some very instant answers on how much he learned
00:03:30last week.
00:03:31Sean McVay, one of the best play callers in the league, Mike McDaniel, terrible head coach,
00:03:36one of the best play callers in the league.
00:03:37So it's not to say it's easy, but the things McVay used to expose Demarcus Covington last
00:03:44week are going to be at the forefront again, right away.
00:03:48And let's see how much he learned from last week and how much he adjusts based on what
00:03:52happened in their defense last week.
00:03:54Specific to the blitz plan.
00:03:55I agree.
00:03:56I did not like it, but really it was more of the style of blitzes and where their vulnerabilities
00:04:01were like one, a couple of plays that really fly under the radar are on the final drive.
00:04:07Demarcus Covington called two cover, two blitzes where Jelani Tavai was essentially once everything
00:04:12happened in Sione Takitaki fire downhill was responsible for having to tackle wide receivers
00:04:17on the other half, all the way to the other side of the field, which is obviously a mismatch
00:04:21in and of itself.
00:04:22But also like with a guy like Matthew Stafford, you know, he's going to get the ball out quickly
00:04:27in those situations.
00:04:28They didn't just call it once though.
00:04:30And then Jelani Tavai got juked by Cooper Cup.
00:04:33They called it again.
00:04:34And the only reason they didn't burn and give up a first down was because Keon White had
00:04:38the awareness to know what was coming and bat it down.
00:04:41And then in the all out blitz scenarios, like you mentioned, they didn't get home.
00:04:44And a lot of that was because they tried to kind of disguise it with the front and send it with
00:04:49the linebackers really at their natural positions versus as we often see with cover zero, you
00:04:54put everybody on the line of scrimmage.
00:04:55You don't care that you declare because and these are the kind of blitzes I'd be cool seeing
00:04:59against Tua where you're saying, yeah, we're in zero.
00:05:02You have to throw the ball quickly because if you don't, you're going to get hit.
00:05:05Those are fine.
00:05:06But when you do it from depth and you involve the line games, it's like it takes too long.
00:05:10You're not going to get home.
00:05:11And that allowed obviously Cooper Cup to get downhill.
00:05:13So need to be smarter if you are going to send pressures, confuse, you know, the past
00:05:18protection all you want, as long as you take away that first read and first would hold
00:05:22on to the ball.
00:05:23But also the Rams are a really tough opponent to face.
00:05:26I remember when I was studying Zach Robinson thinking he might come to the Patriots.
00:05:30I watched the Rams against the Ravens and saw the same types of weird, funky breakdowns
00:05:35that you don't see from those kinds of defenses because the style of motion that they
00:05:39use isn't something you see very often.
00:05:41The Dolphins, I've asked, you know, John Jones, I was like, is it easier knowing, you
00:05:45know, you see these motions, you know, the players, he's like, well, are you ever
00:05:48comfortable with a bullet coming at your head?
00:05:50I was like, that's ever happened before.
00:05:52But I get your point where against that kind of speed, you're never comfortable.
00:05:56But this is a more familiar opponent.
00:05:57So I'd expect the coverage assignments and the handling of the motion to be much more
00:06:01consistent than what we saw last week.
00:06:03One interesting note, though, is Gerard Mayo pointed out how it can help to switch up the
00:06:07matchups because McDaniel may be planning and saying, hey, they put Danzo on Tyree
00:06:12kill last time. They're going to do it again.
00:06:14What if they do Marcus Jones like they did in week two of last season and then put
00:06:18Gonzalez on Jalen Waddell like they did in that game?
00:06:20So we'll see if they match up the same way.
00:06:22But either way, I really like how the Patriots match up with the Dolphins.
00:06:26Jalen Waddell never really beats them unless they have some kind of breakdown.
00:06:29And I think Marcus Jones, Christian Gonzalez, maybe not John Jones as much because he's
00:06:34lost some of his speed. But I do like their matchups against Tyree kill.
00:06:38He took my point I was going to with the matchups, but I will ask you guys how we think
00:06:43we're going to match this up because we don't have to revisit the Christian Gonzalez on
00:06:47the boundary conversation that was last week.
00:06:49We don't need to get worked up about that one again.
00:06:51But, you know, Gerard said last week was a size matchup.
00:06:55This week is more of a speed matchup.
00:06:56Obviously, when you have Tyree kill and Jalen Waddell, it's going to be a speed matchup.
00:07:00And he did say, you know, when you travel with these guys, as Taylor just said, you
00:07:04learn them and you start to adjust how these guys they move and they cover.
00:07:08And, you know, if you're a corner, how these receivers, you know, like to get open and
00:07:12win. So, Barth, we'll start with you.
00:07:15Is this in your estimation going to be a Christian Gonzalez on Tyree kill game where the
00:07:22last two times they played in Christian Gonzalez has been healthy?
00:07:26That's been his matchup.
00:07:27I think it was what, twenty one of twenty nine routes or something right around in that
00:07:31range in the matchup earlier this year, back in week five.
00:07:34So is it Christian Gonzalez on Tyree kill or do they throw them a curveball and maybe
00:07:40say, you know, we are going to put Marcus Jones on Tyree kill or maybe Jonathan Jones
00:07:45and Christian Gonzalez takes Jalen Waddell?
00:07:47How would you match it up and how do you think it's going to match up?
00:07:50I hope no curveball.
00:07:51I think when you've had as many issues as the Patriots have had defensively, like part
00:07:56of the reason I struggled early in the year, we talked about this was maybe getting too
00:07:59complex, too cute on defense with some of the matchups and the rotations and the coverage
00:08:03disguises. It felt like they'd gone away from that and then they've gotten back to it
00:08:06here these last few weeks.
00:08:07I think you keep it simple.
00:08:09Christian Gonzalez has had success against Tyree kill.
00:08:12There you go. Like that's that simple.
00:08:14Jalen Waddell's a little tougher.
00:08:16Do you go to Jonathan Jones, who maybe isn't quite as fast as he used to be?
00:08:19Do you go to Marcus Jones?
00:08:20I actually thought for what last week was Marcus Jones played a pretty good game.
00:08:25I ride the hot hand, but I would also be ready to make the switch if the, if it's not
00:08:31going well and give Jon Jones a look there.
00:08:34Um, and then I'm interested to see how much we see Alex Austin, if at all, you know,
00:08:38cleared off IR, they need that other boundary corner.
00:08:41This isn't really a great game for him matchup wise.
00:08:44And maybe you put them on Odell.
00:08:45I would think he should be able to handle Odell Beckham at this point in Odell's
00:08:49career.
00:08:50But to me, it's Gonzalez on Hill.
00:08:52You had success there with that matchup.
00:08:54You'd need to have a better game from the secondary.
00:08:57I, anything else is overthinking it to me.
00:09:00Taylor.
00:09:01I know you've had some issues with maybe Marcus Jones's usage of late.
00:09:05So do you see that the same way with Gonzalez on a Tyree kill?
00:09:10And they let Marcus Jones step up and try to be this number two corner against Jalen
00:09:14Waddell, or how do you see this one unfolding?
00:09:17Honestly, I liked it.
00:09:17Marcus Jones was more a part of their base package.
00:09:20I swear.
00:09:20I think that I think some of the coordinators be following my Twitter
00:09:23sometimes, because I was pounding the table.
00:09:25Like I know everyone thinks, oh, he's so small, but pound for pound, he's one of
00:09:29their tougher players and he doesn't play the run like someone who's five, eight.
00:09:32And at the end of the day, obviously size is a massive advantage or disadvantage.
00:09:36But a lot of that run defense stuff is like, no, do you want to stop the run?
00:09:40If you do, you're going to cause some kind of disruption.
00:09:42I think John Jones and Marcus Jones do a great job of that.
00:09:45Honestly, I'm not, if they decide to kind of throw some curve balls and say they're
00:09:49going to be sometimes or Marcus Jones is on Tyreek Hill and sometimes we have
00:09:52times where Gonzalez is going to do it.
00:09:54I, we know that they have faith that they can cover these guys because we've seen
00:09:58them get these assignments in the past.
00:09:59So I wouldn't really mind that if they think it gives them an advantage.
00:10:02Now, obviously if you know, Marcus Jones struggles and that's a whole different
00:10:06story, then it's like, all right, we won't do any more of that.
00:10:09We'll just stick Christian there.
00:10:11Uh, but at the end of the day, I still think this comes down to execution.
00:10:13Like John Jones had his worst game as a Patriot.
00:10:16Marcus Jones played well for the most part.
00:10:18Christian Gonzalez played well for the most part, really it was those breakdowns
00:10:21were like Christian Ellis has poor eye discipline and gives up the touchdown in
00:10:24the red zone.
00:10:25Most of it was Jonathan Jones.
00:10:26And obviously Marco Wilson who ended up getting cut because he had a blown coverage
00:10:30and some of some reps that weren't very competitive.
00:10:33Alex Austin.
00:10:34Honestly, we heard from the Marcus coming to the day about Austin.
00:10:37He didn't sound super, not that he thought anything bad, but I thought he would sound
00:10:42a little more excited because obviously on the outside in the summer, we were all
00:10:45excited to see what Alex Austin might be able to do.
00:10:47But he didn't do much.
00:10:49And I think that internally they see like, yeah, no, he still needs to earn a spot.
00:10:53But Marco Wilson was a liability and run defense.
00:10:55And then when you have that game that he had, it's like, yeah, we need to bring a
00:10:59young guy back.
00:11:00I'm sorry.
00:11:00You kind of, your time here's up.
00:11:01So, um, I liked, I still like the matchups a lot.
00:11:05Probably going to see Jonathan Jones in the slot and some of their base packages when
00:11:08they like using him and Duggar as the safeties, but I'll, I'll be interested to
00:11:12see if they switch it up, but either way, I think they should be all right.
00:11:15How concerned are either of you with the dolphins run game?
00:11:19Because I know Hill and Waddle get a lot of the attention and rightfully so even
00:11:24someone like John, who Smith has, who we know here, he's been playing well in the
00:11:28past game lately, but in the first game against the Patriots, I think most are.
00:11:33And, uh, it was Jalen, right?
00:11:35Rookie Jalen, right?
00:11:36In that game, most are averaged over four yards carry Jalen, right?
00:11:39It was like at six and a half yards per clip.
00:11:42We only saw Devon A-chain get three carries cause he got knocked out with a
00:11:45concussion and he's maybe their most dangerous runner.
00:11:48So how worried about, are you stopping the dolphins run game?
00:11:53And if we're devoting resources to the secondary, you know, maybe not playing as
00:11:59much base, like, are you worried that maybe the dolphin, this is going to be a
00:12:02game where the dolphins are just going to run the ball or Taylor, we'll start with
00:12:06you.
00:12:07Like, are you saying the less they're throwing a Tyree kill in jail and Waddle,
00:12:11the better for us, we're going to let them run, try to stop it with what we got
00:12:14up front.
00:12:15And then they can try to beat us that way, if that's how they want to do it.
00:12:18So yeah, Devon Godshaw mentioned that he actually admitted without really being
00:12:22prompted that the dolphins did run well on them in week five.
00:12:26Um, a lot of that, from my memory was Rayquan McMillan, Keon White being lined
00:12:29up on the inside.
00:12:31That was an almost every one of those runs came against their big nickel package.
00:12:34They didn't have Kyle Dugger that game.
00:12:36So it was Marte Mapu in the box.
00:12:37He really struggled.
00:12:39That was one of the games where one of the last games where you saw him in the box a
00:12:42ton, they started to kind of ease back on that and use them deep later on.
00:12:46Um, I just think that on early downs, really, I just don't want to see those like
00:12:5115 yard in breakers, like got to take those away.
00:12:54So I would kind of like to see maybe similar to the Rams game plan in the Super
00:12:58Bowl, where you try to take away the outside zone with some of those more six man type
00:13:02of fronts and play a lot of quarters so that those safeties can fire down on those
00:13:06in breakers.
00:13:07Because if you play cover two or you play cover three and you stick in zone, two is
00:13:11going to pick you apart.
00:13:12And that is just, and I don't know, it's only going to happen like two or three times
00:13:15in the grand scheme of things.
00:13:16It's not the worst thing in the world.
00:13:18Um, and you do have to respect the run to some degree because every time the Patriots
00:13:22play the Dolphins, the game is close.
00:13:24They haven't completely shut down the run game and they've done just enough that the
00:13:27Patriots don't really know what's coming.
00:13:29And with two Oh, with Mike McDaniel, with the motions.
00:13:32And then like Jalen Wright was someone that got shot specifically mentioned.
00:13:35He was like, I was really impressed with the rookie, um, Devon HN, like you mentioned
00:13:38has been their lead back.
00:13:40He really is put where he most are in the background a little bit.
00:13:43He's super explosive, breaks a ton of tackles and can do a lot of things.
00:13:46I think you want to be stout up front.
00:13:48So I'll be interested to see, do they go with more of their base defense?
00:13:51Like what they've been doing lately where Keon White's on the outside, you got both
00:13:55the linebackers and maybe John Jones is there as a third cornerback, just so you have a
00:13:59little bit more pass flexibility.
00:14:01Or do you go with big nickel and say, sure, prove that we can't stop the run against
00:14:05you because we want to be able to get more depth in our drops.
00:14:08Kyle Duggar helps there, but even then he's not perfect either.
00:14:10He got the ball thrown over his head a couple of times in zone coverage last week.
00:14:13So, yeah, I think you at least want to try to match speed with speed, but if you can't
00:14:18stop the run, I think at some point you probably do end up going back to base.
00:14:22They averaged 18 yards per play against, uh, when they were in their base defense last
00:14:27week or allowed 18 yards per play, uh, in their base defense last week.
00:14:31So I try to stay out of that.
00:14:32Look, if Miami is going to run the ball and keep it out of to his hands and keep it out
00:14:35of Tyree's hands, I'll let them do that all day.
00:14:38I just think if they're running, they're running now, you can't be allowing explosive
00:14:43runs.
00:14:43I think that's some of what they tried to do against Houston.
00:14:45And then the four and five yard runs turned into 10 and 15 yard runs.
00:14:49And that's where it's not sustainable.
00:14:50So you got to tackle at the second level and for all their defensive issues last week,
00:14:54kind of flew under the radar.
00:14:55They didn't tackle well in that game.
00:14:57I think Kyle Duggar in particularly looked like he looked like a guy that had missed
00:15:01a month due to injury.
00:15:02What she, he had, right?
00:15:03So hopefully he bounces back this week, but if they can stop the run, great.
00:15:07I don't know that they have the flexibility to send a ton of extra assets that way.
00:15:12And with all the speed on the field, it's, it's going to be really tough to play base,
00:15:16uh, a good amount because they're just going to pick matchups and they're going to end
00:15:21up with, with either running backs or even like John who Smith running by linebackers.
00:15:27My one thing with that is we have to always remember like, okay, we say nickel and on
00:15:31paper, like Madden, that sounds great, but again, who are you replacing that extra
00:15:35linebacker with?
00:15:36Basically you're saying, all right, Christian Ellis, you only talk, you talk, you're
00:15:38off Kyle Duggar, you're on.
00:15:40But again, if we're talking about zone coverage, how much of an advantage is Kyle
00:15:44Duggar giving you in that position?
00:15:46Because again, he gets the ball thrown over his head and zone as well.
00:15:48Like getting that proper zone depth isn't necessarily one of his strengths.
00:15:52And even he struggled, like you mentioned as a tackler.
00:15:54So it's not a guaranteed, Oh, we just put Kyle Duggar in there.
00:15:58We're safe.
00:15:58You know, and I just think that's really the biggest problem.
00:16:01And a lot of the passes that happened against base were against Jonathan Jones,
00:16:05where it was poor eye discipline.
00:16:07It was trying to go for the pass, break up and cover zero instead of making the tackle
00:16:11and preventing obviously the touchdown that happened.
00:16:13So, you know, I know we like to get into the, Oh, it's nickel versus base.
00:16:17That's so archaic, but like, this isn't Madden where the computer is giving you more
00:16:21of an advantage.
00:16:22Kyle Duggar needs to be good enough in coverage to justify that.
00:16:25And I'm just not fully sold that he's going to give you that consistent.
00:16:28Well, the other guy I look at there, they missed him last week.
00:16:30And I think it's part of the reason they played so much base last week
00:16:32was Marte Mapu, if he's healthy.
00:16:34Because he's a guy that can help you in that regard as well.
00:16:36So, you know, is Duggar great in coverage?
00:16:38No. Is Marte Mapu great in coverage?
00:16:40No. He got run on last time.
00:16:42Like he got like seven times in that game.
00:16:45But like I'll I'll take in coverage.
00:16:47I'll take those guys over Ellis and Tavai.
00:16:49I'm not saying it's great, but I think it's an upgrade.
00:16:51He he scares me, especially, you know, Miami's play action attack, though.
00:16:56Like there's one or two coverage bus per game with Marte Mapu.
00:17:00Maybe that gets better as even though he wasn't on the field last week.
00:17:03Maybe that gets better.
00:17:04The more he plays and the more, you know, snaps he sees out there.
00:17:08But that does kind of scare me with him in coverage.
00:17:11But wasn't it against the Dolphins where they had a bootleg
00:17:15and he was in man coverage and fully bid on it and didn't even realize
00:17:18the guy was running to the other side?
00:17:20I think it was one of his first games.
00:17:21I remember it was like it was that his first game back, Miami.
00:17:24Or yeah, because that was week week five.
00:17:29Yeah, yeah.
00:17:30That would have been his first game back because he was on the IR.
00:17:33So, yeah, that was definitely one of them.
00:17:35But Armour also makes a big difference.
00:17:37Like he didn't do a lot against the past, but he had like three tackles
00:17:40against the run.
00:17:41And you could just see the difference between him and equality
00:17:43when they're out there because he just needs so much space.
00:17:45So that's another factor as well.
00:17:46Yeah. And he was a full participant in practice today.
00:17:49So maybe he's getting a little bit more involved as we go forward there.
00:17:53But it's a tough matchup with all this speed.
00:17:56I know the corners you'd like to hope they match up well.
00:17:59But so much team speed on Miami and the motion just seeing what Sean McVay
00:18:03did against this defense with the motion and how unprepared they look
00:18:07and the communication that worries me going into this one.
00:18:10So you have to have a better plan for the motion.
00:18:12Don't love the matchup.
00:18:13Maybe a game where you need Drake made a pull out 30 points
00:18:17if you want to pull this out or get a turnover if they get a turnover,
00:18:21which they haven't been able to do.
00:18:22And so many weeks, even though Christian Gonzalez is two interceptions
00:18:26of both coming into the Dolphins, if they could get a turnover,
00:18:29that would be huge defensively. So
00:18:33fun fact, the Patriots and the Cowboys are the only teams
00:18:37who have fumbled more than the Dolphins this year.
00:18:40Fumbled, OK. Yeah, fumbled.
00:18:42So there's going to be opportunities on both sides of the ball.
00:18:46You say that last week about like Kyron Williams and Matt Stafford
00:18:49came into the week throwing an interception in like six straight games.
00:18:52And I was very disappointed. Yes.
00:18:55Yeah. So it's a focus to Marcus Covington said today
00:18:58they're focusing on these turnovers, but they haven't been able to get them.
00:19:02It's been a few games now without one.
00:19:04So big week, if they would be able to force a turnover here
00:19:07and steal an extra possession or two.
00:19:09But anything to wrap up on the defense that we did not talk about
00:19:14any individual players that we didn't talk about that you're looking for
00:19:17before we move on to Drake May in that Patriots offense.
00:19:21I want to see more from Anakin Galkway this week.
00:19:23I think that's like you need him to be an impact player
00:19:27and ideally someone who can play on early downs as well and help stop the run.
00:19:32I mean, Jerome Mayo talked about him being a three down player.
00:19:34They could certainly use it.
00:19:36They you know, and I get easing him in last week, but it's ramped up.
00:19:39That let's let's ramp his roll up.
00:19:42Definitely. All right.
00:19:43Before we move on to the offense, I want to tell you guys about prize
00:19:48picks, where you can win up to 100 times your money
00:19:50with as little as four correct picks.
00:19:52You can make your picks in less than 60 seconds
00:19:54and turn your sports opinions in the real money all season long on prize picks.
00:19:59Barth and I submit our Patriots lineups every game day.
00:20:01We'll do that at the end of our preview here.
00:20:04Taylor loved doing it with us last week.
00:20:06I think we went four for six last week.
00:20:08We hit on all of our Patriots ones.
00:20:10So Matt let us down and Jared Verse let us down.
00:20:14But we'll we'll have that at the end of the show.
00:20:17And then if you want to extend it to the entire league with stars
00:20:21like Justin Jefferson, Saquon Barkley and Patrick Mahomes and more, we have
00:20:27what's tonight's Steelers Browns tonight's football.
00:20:31Looks like there's a snow game in Cleveland tonight.
00:20:35So it's Jamis Jamis versus Russell Wilson in the snow.
00:20:38That's some some real sicko stuff right there.
00:20:42I wasn't surprised that Alex, oh, that sounds nice.
00:20:46That's his type of game.
00:20:47So and on prize picks, they're also the only real money
00:20:52daily fantasy platform with an injury insurance policy.
00:20:55So your lineup stay in play, even if one of your players gets injured,
00:20:58if your player leaves in the first half and doesn't return.
00:21:01Prize picks keeps your lineup live.
00:21:03So download the app today and use code C L and S to get fifty dollars
00:21:07instantly after you play your first five dollar lineup.
00:21:10That's code C L and S to get fifty dollars instantly
00:21:13after you play your first five dollar lineup on prize picks.
00:21:17Run your game.
00:21:20All right.
00:21:21So I'm just transitioning over to Drake May in that Patriots offense.
00:21:26We just said it might not be the best matchup for the Patriots defense,
00:21:29so they might have to put some points on the board.
00:21:31We saw a season high under Drake May.
00:21:33Twenty two points last week might have to beat that number.
00:21:37So, you know, last week we saw that short passing game kind of take over.
00:21:41You know, Drake's second season highs and completions adjusted
00:21:45completion percentage.
00:21:46He had the fastest time to throw the lowest average target in his starts.
00:21:51So Taylor, against this Dolphins defense, is it a similar game plan
00:21:56kind of that underneath those quick hitting passes?
00:21:59Or do you think we're maybe pushing the ball down the field
00:22:03a little bit more down there in Miami this week?
00:22:05I'm thinking very similar game plan because the Dolphins have a very good defense.
00:22:09They are stingy against the run.
00:22:11They're stingy against the pass.
00:22:13They do not give up explosive plays very tight in the red zone.
00:22:17When I was trying to look for how they generate big plays,
00:22:19all I could come up with was move the pocket, bring the bootlegs
00:22:23and a lot of play action like you got to create some level of misdirection
00:22:26or confusion, because if the Dolphins know what you're going to do,
00:22:29they're going to pick you apart.
00:22:30Chop Robinson has been
00:22:31he's number one in pass rush.
00:22:34I hate saying this stat out loud.
00:22:35Pass rush win rate over the since week nine.
00:22:39He's like second in pressure rate.
00:22:41So he's really been coming on.
00:22:42Zach Seeler and Kaleas Campbell are obviously a handful.
00:22:45And Emmanuel Agba, he can make some plays if you don't really keep him in check.
00:22:48Obviously, a ton of experience on that defense.
00:22:50So I think this is going to need to be another Drake May managerial game
00:22:54where you take what they give you.
00:22:56You try to make plays with your legs.
00:22:58I think he did miss some opportunities downfield last week.
00:23:01So maybe try to capitalize on more of those.
00:23:03Going to be really interesting to see that next step in his evolution, though,
00:23:06because it feels like we've seen already a couple of different versions of him.
00:23:09You had the Drake May where it's like, I'm going to run it down your throat.
00:23:12And I'm going to, you know, throw it over your heads
00:23:14because you don't respect me.
00:23:15And now defenses are getting back the way, you know, Bill Belichick
00:23:18always used to coach because they fear him as a runner and as a passer.
00:23:22And he's saying, all right, I'll take the easier stuff and I'll throw on time.
00:23:25I'll be in the quick game and I'll have, you know, strong mechanics
00:23:28and be able to put the ball in my guy's hands.
00:23:30So, yeah, I think we're going to see a lot more of that once again.
00:23:33Yeah, I the big thing I'm wondering with him is like against that pressure,
00:23:38and I know he had the one miscue throwing hot last week
00:23:41when he threw it out of the back of the end zone on the zero blitz
00:23:44in the red zone with Pop Douglas coming across the middle.
00:23:46And yeah, probably one of the first, if not the first zero blitz he's seen.
00:23:50It was the first confirmed was the first one.
00:23:53OK, so there we go.
00:23:54But when he's kind of faced pressure,
00:23:57that outlet of Hunter Henry or Austin Hooper just,
00:24:02you know, seven yards, turn around, find the hole, sit down.
00:24:04He's hit that very regularly.
00:24:06And that's a throw that a lot of quarterbacks of his prototype
00:24:11don't necessarily love to make because there's not a ton of upside with it.
00:24:15You're just kind of getting the ball out, getting it saved.
00:24:17Usually there's a lurking defender is not in position to pick the ball off
00:24:20in a position to make a tackle like that.
00:24:22That play's not going for twenty five, thirty yards.
00:24:24But you add a couple of those up and they can help extend a drive.
00:24:27As we've seen.
00:24:28I'm wondering when teams start to pay more attention
00:24:31to those tight ends over the middle, because when they start doing that,
00:24:33there's going to be more opportunities on the outside,
00:24:35whether it's Pop Douglas in the slot.
00:24:37You know, maybe you start seeing some safeties come down into cover one.
00:24:42Even out of cover two looks right.
00:24:43You start getting that cover one, Robert, things like that.
00:24:46I'm going to be really interested now that Dolphins play that,
00:24:48you know, the fan job cover for.
00:24:50But I'm just going to be interested to see how they defend the tight end,
00:24:52because I feel like every time Drake Mays in trouble the last few weeks.
00:24:56Oh, there's Hunter Henry and he's no longer in trouble.
00:24:59And I want to see what he does once teams start to catch on to that.
00:25:03And this is the Raiders played Miami last week and Brock Bowers had.
00:25:08What was it? 13 catches, 120 yards and a touchdown.
00:25:12They've been massive.
00:25:13They've been pretty bad, you know, defending passes in between the numbers.
00:25:16So maybe that's a focus for them this week.
00:25:18But, you know, Taylor, you mentioned to the quick passing
00:25:21kind of like we saw against the Rams.
00:25:23Evan pointed it out to us before practice yesterday.
00:25:26Gardner Minshew's numbers against the Dolphins last week.
00:25:30It was the exact same number of completions, which actually got changed.
00:25:33I don't know if you saw that.
00:25:34There was a stat correction in the game with one of the passes
00:25:37from Drake to pop Douglas.
00:25:40It went for zero yards and then it got like nullified by a penalty yesterday.
00:25:44I don't really know how that works, but one less catch for pop
00:25:47and one less completion for Drake, I guess.
00:25:50But pretty similar between Drake and Minshew, the completions,
00:25:54they had the exact same number of passing yards, 282 yards.
00:25:57And, you know, I went back and looked and, you know, Minshew attempted
00:26:0036 passes under 10 air yards and his a dot was like 3.8 yards in that one.
00:26:06So a lot of those short passes.
00:26:07So that could be a similar game script as last week.
00:26:11And also mentioning the Patriots defense needed a turnover.
00:26:15Obviously have to take care of the football, which has been
00:26:18one of the main things with Drake.
00:26:19Van Pelt put a number on it today, which I thought was very interesting.
00:26:22He said 10 interceptions or less.
00:26:25And he mentioned, you know, some of the tips that don't really count.
00:26:29So I don't know if he was already counting.
00:26:32Remember, he had the tip in the Houston game on that screen.
00:26:35It sounded to me like those cat, he was like 10 interceptions,
00:26:39knowing some of those tips or whatever.
00:26:41So, no, I think it's including those.
00:26:43So I look at it.
00:26:44May's got what?
00:26:45Five right now, right?
00:26:46And five starts by full games.
00:26:48He's got six, six, six and five games.
00:26:51So, you know, if he can keep it to four through four or fewer
00:26:56interceptions over the last six games, that'd be excellent.
00:26:59You know, that would be excellent.
00:27:01I was giving him more room than that.
00:27:02I said, well, I was talking turnovers total
00:27:06because we talked about the day, Brian, can you keep it under a turnover
00:27:09again over the last six games?
00:27:12So I guess that's kind of in line with that, you know, four interceptions.
00:27:14You figure there's going to be a fumble or two.
00:27:16But I like that Van Pelt gave a number.
00:27:18I was kind of surprised.
00:27:20But yeah, I like the transparency.
00:27:23And then, you know, one of the more unfortunate stats is
00:27:27I think it's only Drake and Baker Mayfield are the only quarterbacks
00:27:32with double digit turnover where the plays since Drake became the starter in week six.
00:27:36And he's either had two turnovers or two turnover
00:27:38where the plays, one of the other in every game that he started.
00:27:42And then the nice thing is, like Gerard Mayo pointed out,
00:27:44he's not really an error repeater.
00:27:46A lot of them are different where it's like they're inaccurate.
00:27:48He's not on the same page as his guys.
00:27:50You know, sometimes maybe just a little bit under thrown
00:27:52because he's trying to go deep.
00:27:53The strip sacks have been a bit of a problem.
00:27:55There's been like one every other week, pretty much.
00:27:57So if he can tighten that up and this is his first turnover,
00:28:00turnover free game, you know, two is probably going to give you a chance
00:28:04to pick him off at least once in the game that could end up being the difference.
00:28:07Yep, definitely.
00:28:09So I also asked you about stopping the Dolphins run game.
00:28:13So this was that week five game.
00:28:17This was the game we were saying the Patriots should have ran the ball more.
00:28:20Right.
00:28:21They only ran it 18 times, but they averaged.
00:28:23It was the franchise high seven point nine yards per carry.
00:28:27Mondra was seven point four.
00:28:28Gibson was up near nine.
00:28:30So they ran the ball and had a lot of success
00:28:33in that first matchup earlier this year.
00:28:36Taylor, is that something you think they can replicate?
00:28:39I know the run game hasn't been that good as it was earlier in the year.
00:28:42And that was with, you know, Jacoby under center.
00:28:45So do you think, you know, the Patriots can go back to that
00:28:48and have more success on the ground down there in Miami?
00:28:52I mean, if you're looking at the numbers, it's going to be tough sledding
00:28:55because the Patriots have been OK, but the Dolphins have been pretty strong.
00:28:58Now, there were a couple of runs in that last game
00:29:00where it was like shotgun long yardage situations
00:29:02where they weren't really expecting run that factors into it.
00:29:05Obviously, reminder, Stevenson had his huge touchdown run, which was awesome.
00:29:09But I feel like if you look at the runs individually,
00:29:12they weren't great in the entire day.
00:29:13I think there were just a few key plays.
00:29:16They got them yardage to put them put them in some advantageous spots.
00:29:20I just there's been so much inconsistency with like Mike and when it was special.
00:29:23You expect him to be the guy leading the charge
00:29:25and being the most consistent for you.
00:29:27He's been winding up on the ground, not sustaining blocks,
00:29:30not being able to say blocks really been an issue for every single member
00:29:33of the offensive line.
00:29:34Then you had Hunter Henry even missing a couple of key blocks last week.
00:29:37Ramondry Stevenson, I know he's in a tough spot, but it feels like he's not
00:29:41really quite as dynamic, I think, as we were seeing in that Dolphins game,
00:29:45especially so I'm hoping they can run just well enough.
00:29:49Like if you can average three and a half yards, like I'll take it
00:29:51because it keeps your playbook open.
00:29:53You just can't have the negative runs because those are going to be the real killers,
00:29:57especially in the red zone about the run game and penalties
00:30:00have been the biggest thing that's really been hurting them.
00:30:04Barth, any thoughts you lean on the run game?
00:30:07Yeah, I'm I'm I'm hesitant to do that
00:30:10just because they haven't run well.
00:30:11Miami has run all now.
00:30:12Look, you got to do it a little bit.
00:30:13Miami's been bad against play action.
00:30:15So this is one of those games where as much as it sucks
00:30:20and it's going to be frustrating, you can almost justify running the ball
00:30:24semi regularly, even if you're only running for like three yards per carry.
00:30:27As long as you turn around, hit play action for off of it.
00:30:32Miami's been so good against the run because they're selling hard for it.
00:30:35OK, you know, two yard run, three yard run, two yard run, four yard run,
00:30:39two yard run.
00:30:41If you then come off of that and hit a 35 yard completion on play action,
00:30:45it becomes worth it.
00:30:46And that's what this offense is essentially built on.
00:30:49But so many of these, you know, West Coast coaches become so set
00:30:53on establishing the run before you hit that play action
00:30:56where they want to show it can be successful rather than just show it.
00:30:59You can't just run into a wall all day and never create off of it.
00:31:02So I don't love the prospects of them establishing the run.
00:31:06It may not matter.
00:31:09And still be effective.
00:31:11But if they're not going to hit play action off of it,
00:31:14there's not a ton of I wouldn't lean too heavily on the run game in this one.
00:31:18I will say I asked Ben Brown about that specifically, because obviously,
00:31:21like I know there are studies that show that there's no correlation and all that.
00:31:25I think it's just kind of like momentum, honestly, where, yeah,
00:31:28you're not going to be able to quantify it.
00:31:29But I think that players do feel it.
00:31:31And I asked Ben Brown, is there a difference when you know
00:31:33you're running the ball?
00:31:34Well, do you feel that difference in the defense and that they're respecting it?
00:31:37And he said, yeah, you can feel it
00:31:39because the pass rush isn't quite as ferocious, obviously.
00:31:41Even if you know, I feel like the thing that we pay most attention to
00:31:44is did the linebacker bite up?
00:31:46And sometimes that's not always the thing that they're trying to do.
00:31:49Sometimes it really is just to slow down the pass rush.
00:31:51Really, if you have a pulling guard and things like that,
00:31:53that's where you want to see more of that.
00:31:55You know, the linebackers kind of get frozen.
00:31:57One thing I'll add is that I talked to Evan about this.
00:32:00Really, I'm crediting him with this because something about the play action game.
00:32:02Like I wasn't really understanding
00:32:04because it felt like they weren't creating a ton of voids.
00:32:06And he did a really he had a great observation that they're not really
00:32:09pairing the concepts with some of the play action concepts
00:32:13where like sometimes they'll have an outside zone type of pass concept,
00:32:17but they'll be pulling Michael Jordan like it's power.
00:32:20And it's not creating the kind of displacement that's most advantageous.
00:32:23Whereas like with Bill O'Brien, you know, Gronk and Tom Brady made their living
00:32:27where you pull the guard because that's one of those where the linebackers
00:32:29have to freeze and you throw it right over their head versus like
00:32:32you're really trying to target more of the outside area
00:32:35that they wouldn't really be patrolling.
00:32:36So that was one other thing.
00:32:38Giving credit to Evan, that was a great observation that they should really do
00:32:41if they want to take full advantage of a lot of their play action play.
00:32:45They feel like shot plays, right?
00:32:47And maybe try to attack that second level, maybe behind the linebackers,
00:32:51as you just said, so that that would be an interesting change up there.
00:32:57Maybe do we see more Marcus Jones on offense to, you know, dynamic playmaker
00:33:04even as a decoy, maybe to help that run game, just draw an extra body
00:33:08out of the way, you know, Alex Van Pelt and Marcus Jones talked about that today.
00:33:13They said it stemmed from a text that Marcus Jones sent to AVP
00:33:18and he had a Google who Marcus Jones was because he was like, why isn't Marcus
00:33:22Jones just coming to tell me in the facility?
00:33:25And then he went back and watched all of his offensive plays
00:33:28and we saw two plays of that last week.
00:33:30So, Barth, do you think we may see more Marcus Jones on offense this week
00:33:35to maybe try to provide a spark at some point?
00:33:38Yeah, well, now Van Pelt knows probably wouldn't be a bad idea.
00:33:41I'm especially we talked about like how important he may be in the coverage plan.
00:33:46I wouldn't overdo it.
00:33:48I wouldn't overdo it.
00:33:49And I think people need to understand, because I've been getting this question
00:33:51for weeks, like, why isn't Marcus Jones playing on offense?
00:33:54People still want them to turn them in or a receiver.
00:33:57You literally have Pop Douglas on the roster.
00:33:59There's no need for that.
00:34:01He wants to be a defender.
00:34:05Primarily, the team wants him to be a defender.
00:34:07Primarily, this is just a wrinkle.
00:34:09And the other thing is we'll do it more like he's really good
00:34:12at these little gadget plays they put in for him.
00:34:14And there's absolutely value in that.
00:34:16I don't want to diminish what he's doing, but he's not going out there
00:34:20and running a full route tree.
00:34:21He's not going out there.
00:34:23Almost every play he's out there, he's in motion.
00:34:25We're not really seeing his release.
00:34:27We're not seeing him deal with press.
00:34:28It's one thing to be able to go out there and run these specifically
00:34:30designed gadget plays four or five times a game.
00:34:33It's another thing to fully transition to wide receiver like this is not.
00:34:40It's it's it's it's just because he looks good for if I plays a game,
00:34:44does not automatically mean, well, let's just put him at wide receiver
00:34:47at full time because you're not going to get those four to five
00:34:50plays over the course of 40.
00:34:52That's not how it works.
00:34:53So especially this week, where I think he's an important
00:34:56part of their defensive matchup.
00:34:58I wouldn't overdo it because there's also the time
00:35:00that goes in during the week of preparing.
00:35:02But having the tool in your bag is not a bad idea.
00:35:05And even if it's something where he's prepared, which is
00:35:07we're going to put you out there motion before the snap run somewhere
00:35:11just to give Miami something to look at, putting him out on the field
00:35:15for a couple of plays, I don't think is a bad thing, but just a couple of plays.
00:35:19Yeah, I think him becoming a full time receiver is like not even
00:35:22in the conversation, nor should it be exactly.
00:35:25And I'm kind of with you.
00:35:26I want to be careful because this is a guy who has some pretty serious injuries.
00:35:30So I definitely don't want to risk.
00:35:32You know, he's already a two way player because he's a punt
00:35:35returner and he's on defense.
00:35:37Three way player sounds great in theory, but the physical toll that takes,
00:35:40especially considering he probably is going to be used in motion when that happens.
00:35:43I do want to be careful, but I'm all for like a package of game.
00:35:47If you have confidence in so dynamic with the ball, like you said,
00:35:51you don't want to diminish that role because as much as we could say,
00:35:53you know, oh, they have pop for that.
00:35:55And, you know, obviously we have seen pop using that vein.
00:35:58He's not as explosive as Marcus Jones.
00:36:00Literally his first NFL touch.
00:36:01The guy scores a touchdown like that play alone shows you.
00:36:05Yeah, it's not crazy to be like Marcus Jones should be in the plan,
00:36:08even though all summer when we asked him about it, he's like,
00:36:10no, I'm a defensive player, which made it odd where it's like you reached out.
00:36:13That's kind of interesting.
00:36:15But yeah, I'd be all for a plan as long as, you know,
00:36:17they make sure that they're smart.
00:36:19Well, look, he can want to be a primary defensive player
00:36:23and still be, hey, you know, I don't think it's like he reached out, right?
00:36:26And said, hey, I'm going to play.
00:36:29Let me play receiver.
00:36:29I think it's more him reaching out and saying,
00:36:33if you know I got four or five plays in me, if you need them, that sort of thing.
00:36:37Yep. Good things seem to happen when he's out there.
00:36:40Like even as a decoy, we had to set up a nine yard screen,
00:36:43which maybe should have went more from Andre Stevenson.
00:36:46Could have made a guy miss.
00:36:47So but, you know, Barth, you bring up a good point with him on
00:36:51either Waddle or Hill or however they shake that up.
00:36:54Big, big week for him on the defensive side of things.
00:36:56So maybe not as big of a role on offense for Marcus Jones.
00:37:00But before we move on, any last offensive thoughts we can know?
00:37:06I don't think we've done a show since Cole Strange came back to practice.
00:37:09So we've seen him out there the last two days.
00:37:12He hasn't been committal about when he's going to be ready for game action.
00:37:17Alex Van Pelt said this morning that he was,
00:37:21they were trying him on all three interior spots,
00:37:24even though he had center qualities, seems like they are gearing him up
00:37:27to play center whenever he comes back.
00:37:29So Cole Strange is back on the practice fields.
00:37:31Any thoughts on that or just anything else offensively, players
00:37:35that you're looking at to wrap up this side of the ball?
00:37:38I would just say I think him doing more at center isn't totally indicative
00:37:43of the fact that that's the plan for him.
00:37:45I think it's more he's played guard.
00:37:47He's used to guard.
00:37:48He has more work to do at center.
00:37:50I think we talked about that.
00:37:52I talked about somebody like to me with Cole Strange.
00:37:56Right now, it's game on between Ben Brown and Michael Jordan.
00:37:59You know who's going to who's going to prove that they should keep their job?
00:38:03I buy it's still up in the air.
00:38:05I'm a little worried.
00:38:05They said they're going to work him at right guard, too.
00:38:07Again, I get the cross training, but can we not put Michael
00:38:11when you back out to right tackle and do that thing again?
00:38:13We've seen how that works.
00:38:14But yeah, I mean, both of those guys, Jordan and Brown, are struggling
00:38:18in recent weeks.
00:38:19I think Brown's bounced back a little bit.
00:38:21Jordan, not so much.
00:38:22If I had to decide today, it's probably left guard.
00:38:24But I think it's going to come down to what those two guys show you
00:38:26over the next week or two weeks or, you know, however long it takes.
00:38:29Cole Strange should get ready.
00:38:31Totally agree.
00:38:32Also nice that Strange has center flexibility from or experience.
00:38:36At least he said he did some of it in college.
00:38:38He did it during the senior bowl and David Andrews has been really good
00:38:41teaching him the communication part of it.
00:38:43I know he also said that it's been a fun challenge in meetings.
00:38:46He's got a he has to see from a different perspective and pay closer attention
00:38:49because it's not just the plan.
00:38:50It's the plan with him being the guy that pretty much orchestrates it up front.
00:38:54Also, just really happy for the guy.
00:38:55He was saying he had to relearn how to walk.
00:38:57He couldn't go to the bathroom by himself.
00:38:59I can't imagine having to get over that.
00:39:01And you didn't know if he was going to be able to play football again,
00:39:03kind of like Christian Barmore.
00:39:04I gave him a different perspective
00:39:05and he said he didn't realize how much he needed football.
00:39:08So happy for him as a person.
00:39:09But I agree.
00:39:10I think it's going to come down to which one of those spots,
00:39:12left guard or center feels like the more glaring hole
00:39:14whenever he's ready to get back out there.
00:39:17Definitely.
00:39:17So before we wrap this up with our little special teams
00:39:22and our prize picks lineup, I want to tell you guys about game time.

00:40:53Taylor's here. So what time is it?
00:40:55Game time. Game time. There you go.
00:40:58All right. We'll just wrap this up quickly.
00:41:00Special teams were still waiting for the whole complete game
00:41:05on the special teams unit.
00:41:06It's been a really like first couple of weeks of the season
00:41:09until they've been able to just put it all together in that area of the fields.
00:41:14You know, we had the
00:41:16not going for the kick that we had Javon Baker getting benched off
00:41:19kick return last week.
00:41:21So, Barth, what do you want to see
00:41:23from the special teams unit to put together that full game this week in Miami?
00:41:31Jay, the big concern to me is still the punt return coverage.
00:41:34I know they were better last week, but another shot at that.
00:41:37And I think that's pretty much it.
00:41:39I thought they had a pretty solid game last week.
00:41:42Again, those kick return issues,
00:41:44even though one of the bad kick returns went for 40 yards.
00:41:47So when a down kick returns going for 40 yards, you're doing OK.
00:41:50It's just, you know, Miami's a little more explosive in the return game
00:41:53and just be ready for that.
00:41:55Taylor, you got to give a special teams take, you know, the deal.
00:41:59I just want more consistent work from Bryce Berenger.
00:42:02I would probably say like he hasn't been terrible or anything,
00:42:04but we always see him as automatic.
00:42:06And I think that touchback was like pretty egregious from him.
00:42:10It's one thing where it's last week where he does have the one that he misses,
00:42:13but then he literally flips the field by kicking it like 80 yards.
00:42:16Like that's got to think I'm cool with.
00:42:18But I would just like to see a complete game from him
00:42:19just because our standard for him is so high, because that's what he's capable of.
00:42:23That was mine.
00:42:24He's near the top of the league and a touchback percentage on punts.
00:42:28So it's hasn't been.
00:42:30And that was one of the things with him last year, just kind of consistency.
00:42:33And so a little more consistency from him
00:42:36down the stretch would be big to put that full
00:42:40full game on special teams together.
00:42:42I'm still waiting to see Isaiah Baldwin on kick return.
00:42:45I don't think that's going to happen.
00:42:46I asked Jeremy Springer last week and he was just kind of like, yeah,
00:42:49he's our backup that that was really it.
00:42:51So I don't think we're going to have on Baker got benched.
00:42:54So that would usually mean it's time to go to the backup.
00:42:56Well, now they put to Michael Hayes.
00:42:58They put my legacy back in.
00:42:59So he's the backup to the back.
00:43:01Yeah, exactly.
00:43:03But all right.
00:43:04So that will do it for the three units.
00:43:08Taylor, I know you have to get out of here at six.
00:43:10So before you do that, you have to give us one prize pick square
00:43:16to put into our lineup and then we will let you go.
00:43:18Do you have a player you're looking at or anything you think stands out in this game?
00:43:23I can read you some of the options that are available.
00:43:26If you have a player, you're watching.
00:43:28Give me something for Hunter Henry, Hunter Henry.
00:43:34He's got.
00:43:36Forty four and a half receiving yards,
00:43:39or if you want a demon time it up, six and a half receptions.
00:43:44There are also ten and a half fantasy score.
00:43:47We still haven't figured out how they calculate their fantasy score, though, so
00:43:51that would be a little risky if you like it, though.
00:43:54I'll stay away from the fantasy score because I don't know what it is.
00:43:57But I'll go with the.
00:43:59What do you have last week?
00:44:00Six catches for 60 something yards.
00:44:03Hunter Henry.
00:44:04I think, yeah, he had twelve point three fantasy points on prize picks,
00:44:08so it might be PPR.
00:44:11You know what? Screw it. Let's do it.
00:44:12I'm doing it. You're going it.
00:44:14Ten and a half.
00:44:15Oh, Mr. Automatic.
00:44:16More than ten and a half on the fantasy score.
00:44:19Yep. Perfect.
00:44:21All right.
00:44:21So that's Taylor Square.
00:44:24Barth and I will put the rest of ours together in a moment,
00:44:26but Taylor has to log off and go get everyone else some awesome content
00:44:31that's come into Patriots Press Pass really soon.
00:44:33So make sure you stay tuned for that.
00:44:35You can follow Taylor if you're not already at T.
00:44:37Kyle's thirty nine on Twitter.
00:44:41Anything else you got for him, Taylor?
00:44:43That's it.
00:44:44I'm just going to be talking to Andre Winegarden,
00:44:46a friend of Pat's daily, and also Travis Wingfield,
00:44:50who actually works for dolphins dot com.
00:44:52We're going to be asking him three questions.
00:44:55He's going to ask him to.
00:44:56He's going to ask us one about the Patriots.
00:44:57So that should be pretty fun.
00:44:58Those will be dropping tomorrow.
00:44:59All right.
00:45:00Well, thank you for joining us.
00:45:02Have a great trip.
00:45:04Have a great trip to Miami.
00:45:05Stay safe.
00:45:06Hopefully I'm going to smother in the press boxes.
00:45:08I'm going to freeze to death.
00:45:10There you go.
00:45:11Well, travel.
00:45:12All right. See you, Taylor.
00:45:15All right.
00:45:15So he gave us this up.
00:45:17He gave us Hunter Henry.
00:45:21What else we thinking about?
00:45:22We got Pop Douglas thirty eight and a half receiving yards.
00:45:28Hold on.
00:45:28Don't hate that.
00:45:29What do we have for receiving yards?
00:45:32If you think he's going to score
00:45:34nine and a half fantasy score, if we want to go all in on these fans,
00:45:38I don't know what the fantasy score is because we still don't know if it's PPR.
00:45:40I think it is PPR.
00:45:43Nine points.
00:45:44PPR for Pop Douglas isn't bad.
00:45:46He had nine point nine on prize picks fantasy score last week.
00:45:50Let me pull up actual fantasy and see what he got.
00:45:55Nine point nine.
00:45:56OK, it's PPR.
00:45:57It's got to be PPR.
00:45:58All right, so let's put another fancy score in there.
00:46:01Drake may two hundred twenty one and a half passing yards
00:46:05to fifty and a half pass plus rush yards or just twenty six and a half rush yards.
00:46:11Um, his fancy score is sixteen and a half.
00:46:15We want to just go all fantasy scores.
00:46:19Uh, past completions.
00:46:21Thirty three amps.
00:46:23Can we do more than half an interception?
00:46:24I feel like that's kind of been a free square.
00:46:28They do not have that this week.
00:46:30They don't. All right.
00:46:30They figured that they have a rush touchdown.
00:46:33If you think maybe this is the week
00:46:35they start designing some of those quarterback run, what do they have for
00:46:38remandre remandre?
00:46:43Four and a half receptions,
00:46:46fifty five and a half rush yards, seventy three and a half total yards
00:46:51touchdown, twenty nine and a half receiving yards, twelve and a half fantasy score.
00:46:56I kind of think less on the total yards.
00:46:59Less than seventy three and a half rush plus.
00:47:01Yeah. All right, we can do that.
00:47:04And then we need one more from our Patriots square.
00:47:08Kendrick Bourne, three and a half receptions.
00:47:12I mean, you know, I'll take any more on Kendrick Bourne.
00:47:14OK, that's a demon one, too.
00:47:16And we have revenge game against the Hard Rock Stadium.
00:47:21Actually, good point.
00:47:22Good point. Let's put Kendrick Bourne in that one.
00:47:25Now we can go. So that's our four Patriots.
00:47:28Again, we went four for four on our Patriots picks last week.
00:47:30Not the bag, but ball knowers.
00:47:33Let's go to the Dolphins.
00:47:36Devon A-Chain, sixty seven and a half rush yards,
00:47:40hundred five and a half total yards.
00:47:43Jalen Waddle is forty one and a half receiving yards.
00:47:46John Smith is forty and a half receiving yards.
00:47:49Johnny Smith revenge game.
00:47:51It's very true. That's a lot, though.
00:47:53Tyree kill sixty four and a half receiving yards for Tyree kill.
00:47:57I'd say less, but if they go back to that weird coverage,
00:48:01then he's going to go way over that.
00:48:04Twenty three and a half for his longest reception.
00:48:09Two is thirty two pass attempts.
00:48:13And they've been they've been kind of slinging the ball around.
00:48:16Have they? Yeah, the A-Chain rushing yards is interesting
00:48:20because I think they're going to let them run the ball all day.
00:48:22I think they're going to.
00:48:25And I mean, sixty seven is not I mean, Patriots have been allowing
00:48:28for a chain that could also be one rush.
00:48:31Like he's got that dynamic ability to.
00:48:33So when you want to put that in there.
00:48:36Yeah, we'll put a chain more than sixty seven and a half rush yards.
00:48:39There's our five.
00:48:40Do you have our sickos game of the week?
00:48:42I wish I could do it tonight, but we I know that's so.
00:48:45Mack Jones is off.
00:48:47Mack Jones on the bye.
00:48:49They're really the Patriots.
00:48:51Dolphins is kind of the most like two bad teams game.
00:48:55But if we if we view a sickos game through a different lens,
00:48:59we have the Chiefs and the Panthers.
00:49:02Which that game could be decided by 50.
00:49:06Or Panthers could keep it close.
00:49:09That was like a thing.
00:49:11That was like a thing last week on TikTok.
00:49:13Everyone was just making edits at the Panthers.
00:49:15We're going to be so good.
00:49:16Panthers are going to be the team to ruin the Chiefs undefeated season,
00:49:21just like looking ahead of the Bills who actually did it.
00:49:24But what did the brain stew edit with Bryce Young was excellent.
00:49:30Uh. I, I, I, Chuba could be a fun play.
00:49:35Panthers Bryce Young is one hundred seventy six and a half pass yards,
00:49:41one ninety one and a half total yards.
00:49:45Chuba is fifty one and a half rush yards.
00:49:49That's not bad.
00:49:50Actually, what's my home's interceptions?
00:49:52That's a good one.
00:49:55My homes.
00:49:59More than half an interception and it's demon time.
00:50:03I don't hate that.
00:50:05He's basically has he thrown an interception every game this year?
00:50:09I don't think so.
00:50:11He threw two last week against Buffalo, I believe.
00:50:14If he hasn't thrown it, he leads the league.
00:50:17He's become the new Josh Allen.
00:50:19Yeah, there you go.
00:50:21Although, I mean, this game is maybe the one where he locks in
00:50:24and it's a revenge game.
00:50:25He has thrown an interception.
00:50:27So he hadn't thrown one the last two games.
00:50:29He didn't throw one against Tampa or Denver.
00:50:32Denver, Denver.
00:50:35What? Sorry.
00:50:37It's been a long day and then he threw two against Buffalo.
00:50:39So all but two games.
00:50:40Yeah. Yeah. I don't hate that play.
00:50:42Let's go for it.
00:50:44Panthers JC Horn back there make something happen.
00:50:48All right. So we got full lineup.
00:50:51Hunter Henry Moore, ten and a half fantasy score.
00:50:54The Mario Douglas Moore, nine and a half fantasy score.
00:50:57That is PPR.
00:50:58We just figured that out.
00:50:59So both of those guys went over that mark last week.
00:51:03I think they can do that again this week.
00:51:05Romandre Stevenson, less than 73 and a half rush plus receiving yards.
00:51:11Kendrick Bourne demon time more than three and a half perceptions.
00:51:14Revenge game back in Miami.
00:51:16Devon a chain more 67 and a half rush yards than our random game.
00:51:21Patrick Mahomes, more than half an interception.
00:51:25We got our 30 time multiplier again because we have two demon times in there.
00:51:31So if you use code CLNS when you log on to prize picks and play five dollars
00:51:37instantly, if you play five dollars on that lineup, you win one hundred fifty dollars
00:51:41and then you get fifty dollars instantly.
00:51:43The lineup doesn't even have to win.
00:51:44And then if you want to play that fifty dollars on the lineup, you get a fifteen
00:51:48hundred dollar payout. So good payout.
00:51:50We got our 30 time multiplier.
00:51:53We also have our lineup promotion because we're doing six picks.
00:51:56So if you get four of the correct six picks or five of the correct six picks,
00:52:00which we've been pretty good getting at least four or five, we got four last week.
00:52:04Again, all four of our Patriots picks.
00:52:07You get your money back.
00:52:09So again, use code CLNS when you sign up for prize picks,
00:52:13play five dollars, get fifty dollars instantly.
00:52:16We'll tweet that lineup out again early Sunday morning.
00:52:20So you guys can play along with us if you would like.
00:52:23And hopefully win big this week.
00:52:25Feel good. Feel good.
00:52:26We feel good every week, but we feel good this week going in.
00:52:30So very quick, just before we wrap up, Barth, you have any college football.
00:52:37We got another updated playoff bracket.
00:52:40Do you have any takes you have to get off your chest or any games prospects
00:52:46you're looking forward to this weekend in the college football world?
00:52:51I mean, these rankings are ridiculous.
00:52:53Texas has beat nobody.
00:52:54Penn State has beaten nobody.
00:52:56I'll be fair.
00:52:57I'll say Indiana's beat nobody, but at least they're undefeated.
00:52:59Notre Dame lost a freaking N.I.U.
00:53:02Missouri's only ranked.
00:53:04So the committee has an excuse to rank Alabama in Texas as high as they are.
00:53:09Now, in the past, the rankings have kind of been ridiculous.
00:53:11And then they get serious going into the college football,
00:53:14going into the conference championships.
00:53:16So maybe that's it.
00:53:17But like, ah, I it's a 12 team playoff.
00:53:21It should be good.
00:53:21Please don't ruin it.
00:53:23Don't ruin it by filling it with SEC teams.
00:53:25Put Indiana in.
00:53:27If Indiana is unbeaten, if Indiana is not unbeaten, I get it.
00:53:30They haven't beat anybody.
00:53:31But then neither is Penn State
00:53:34and neither is Texas.
00:53:36So it's going to be interesting to see how this all comes down to the wire.
00:53:39One other college football take.
00:53:40I know you're not a huge fan of this one.
00:53:43I think we now know who took the torch from Nick Saban
00:53:48as the the best head coach in college football.
00:53:52And if you looked at the behind the scenes video from Oregon this week,
00:53:55Dan Lanning, the whole mental thing behind jump around.
00:53:59Go check that out. It was awesome.
00:54:01The defensive scheme, there's great.
00:54:03The player development's great.
00:54:05I think he's a great leader.
00:54:06It's just that Mickey Mouse offense, but they're making it work.
00:54:09I'm a huge fan of Dan Lanning's right now.
00:54:12I he just continues to impress me, you know, week in and week out.
00:54:17He almost lost to Wisconsin.
00:54:18Come on.
00:54:20Well, because the Mickey Mouse offense didn't do anything true.
00:54:23Like Dan Lanning with an actual offensive coordinator would be
00:54:28potentially impossible to beat.
00:54:30I do like Dan Lanning. He's a good coach.
00:54:32He had even in that game, like the fourth and nine, they went for it,
00:54:35which I think was the first play after the jumper out.
00:54:39So that stuff were, you know, the fake punt at the end of the game
00:54:44was a little suspect that was that was a little weird.
00:54:47But he is a good coach.
00:54:49I do like him.
00:54:50I just don't know how much I trust Dylan Gabriel in that.
00:54:54So I'm still picking Ohio State to win the championship.
00:54:57But I mean, Ohio State, Oregon National Championship
00:55:00would be a ton of fun.
00:55:01That would be fun, especially in the matchup.
00:55:04And then maybe Ryan Day loses, gets fired and goes and becomes the O.C.
00:55:09and Dan Lanning becomes invincible.
00:55:11Speaking of matchups, I'll give you another one.
00:55:12So the way it's kind of shaped up the last few weeks is so Oregon
00:55:18and Ohio State are going to play in the in the Big Ten Championship.
00:55:21That's almost a lot.
00:55:22Oregon is already in.
00:55:23Ohio State's going to get it.
00:55:26So loser that game most likely is going to be the five seat.
00:55:28The winner of the Big 12 is most likely going to be
00:55:33the 12 seat is going to be the last seat that gets in.
00:55:36So there's a real chance
00:55:38we get Oregon, Colorado
00:55:43in the playoff, which if you think back to last year,
00:55:47Christian Gonzalez Bowl, that to Colorado is rolling.
00:55:52They have those first three wins.
00:55:53Everybody's super high on them is Deion Sanders thinking of work.
00:55:56Are they national champion contenders in Oregon?
00:55:58Beats him down.
00:55:59I hung 40 on him, right?
00:56:00And they just blew their doors off.
00:56:02That was Deion's first loss at Colorado.
00:56:06You look at how far the Colorado programs come.
00:56:09You look at how far Dan Lanning's come, really.
00:56:11I mean, because even at that point, people weren't entirely sure about Oregon.
00:56:14Now they've established themselves as this premier program in the country,
00:56:17like truly premier program in the country.
00:56:19That game, I think that's as good as you can ask for from a five twelve
00:56:23like that matchup.
00:56:24I'm rooting hard, even though like Oregon losing the Big Ten.
00:56:28It's tough to see how that happens.
00:56:30But and if Oregon loses the Big Ten Championship game,
00:56:34then that means they beat Ohio State in the national championship,
00:56:36which means my national championship pick is wrong.
00:56:39But an Ohio State or sorry, an Oregon, Colorado playoff matchup would be awesome.
00:56:45Yeah, that would be really fun.
00:56:47What do we have? Two weeks and then conference championships.
00:56:51And then two weeks, conference championship, Army, Navy,
00:56:54and then the first week after Army, Navy will start the playoff.
00:56:58The fun stuff begins. Fun stuff begins.
00:57:01Does UMass get the interim head coach bump this week against Georgia?
00:57:06Yeah, maybe they stay within 50.
00:57:08They've got to figure that Don Brown's wife tweeting out the NIL fund is $36,000.
00:57:13I just go back to FCS at this point.
00:57:15Just go back.
00:57:16Seriously, pull up, pull in Idaho.
00:57:19Go back. I you're not taking this seriously.
00:57:23It's it's just a bad look for the university.
00:57:26Yeah, it's it's bad there.
00:57:29Maybe they can cover.
00:57:30They get the interim bump to cover 42 points there.
00:57:35Wisconsin finally fired Phil Longo.
00:57:37I know that was Drake Mays, Mays guy for a year.
00:57:40But yeah, does he come here as like a senior advisor?
00:57:42No, please.
00:57:45After watching what he did in Wisconsin, I am good with that.
00:57:49We do not need him there.
00:57:52I don't know.
00:57:52Unless he don't you think it's weird that he left UNC in the first place?
00:57:57Like, yeah, you're there's some there's some go there's
00:58:01your offensive coordinator for Drake May and you leave.
00:58:06I think he had a prior relationship with Luke Fickle, I believe.
00:58:10But like you leave Drake May to go to Wisconsin.
00:58:14That's there's something more there.
00:58:17So how about DJ Lagway?
00:58:21Where's he going?
00:58:23No, I'm just saying, like, because you were.
00:58:26Oh, Grant Mertz.
00:58:27Yeah.
00:58:29Grant Mertz is fine.
00:58:30He'll be back.
00:58:31Mertz is Grant Mertz.
00:58:32Is he going to be?
00:58:33There's no way he still has eligibility.
00:58:35He'll find a way.
00:58:36Grant Mertz is no way.
00:58:38Grant Grant Mertz is going to be with with Luke Altmire at the senior bowl.
00:58:42Everybody going, wow.
00:58:43All right.
00:58:43Well, they filled the roster out.
00:58:46Oh, it is.
00:58:47Is Grant Mertz the Jacobi Bursette of college football?
00:58:53This year, Jacobi Bursette of college football.
00:58:57Well, because everybody, all Florida fans wanted Lagway to start from the beginning,
00:59:00but they didn't want to rush maybe other than, like.
00:59:06Grant Mertz lost his job because he got hurt.
00:59:08OK, but he was losing it before he got hurt.
00:59:11Wake, wake, wake, wake.
00:59:13Now, Wisconsin, they're trying to get, you know, Carter Smith.
00:59:17He's like a four star quarterback.
00:59:19He was committed to Michigan.
00:59:21They're trying to get him now.
00:59:22They just flipped another guy from Michigan.
00:59:24So now they're trying to get Carter Smith.
00:59:26So maybe new offensive coordinator, new quarterbacks coming in.
00:59:32I'll just get my hopes up to get shot down again.
00:59:35They got they got Nebraska this week.
00:59:37So who knows how that's going to go?
00:59:39But first game post Phil Longo.
00:59:41But yeah, I'm good with Phil Longo in New England, unless Drake May loves him,
00:59:45which, again, with that whole how that whole thing ended,
00:59:48maybe doesn't seem like it.
00:59:50But I'm good with him here after watching him in Wisconsin.
00:59:55So unless you got anything else, we can wrap it up there.
01:00:00Any last thoughts?
01:00:03No, I think that's it.
01:00:04All right.
01:00:04So Patriots back on the road going to Miami again, been a tough place
01:00:10to play for them, but they look to beat to get their fourth win of the year.
01:00:15We will be back to break that game down
01:00:18on Monday of next week, and then it's Thanksgiving.
01:00:22So our schedule is a little different.
01:00:24I think right now we're planning to do that show on Monday
01:00:28and then maybe another show on Tuesday where we'll do
01:00:32maybe a little bit of a step back, a Q&A, get you guys involved,
01:00:37do a little bit on the Colts to end the show.
01:00:39So we'll do Monday, Tuesday with the busy end of the week.
01:00:44But we will definitely make sure you guys know the plans.
