Media Isle of Man's Adam Morton chats to Liverpool Football Club legend Bruce Grobbelaar during the Craig's Heartstrong Foundation charity golf day at Ramsey Golf Club.
Transcript
00:00 Alright Bruce, I wanted to ask you how you think today's gone. Have you had a good day?
00:04 Listen, we have had an absolutely fantastic time. Golf course was superb, the weather beautiful.
00:14 Team, well, could be better. Justin and Josh, okay, but the two Bruce's held the team together.
00:25 Yeah, of course, Bruce Almighty. Bruce Almighty in the bar and myself.
00:31 Listen, it's been fantastic and for what the charity is for, I would come back every six months to do this.
00:41 Just for that charity because it's something that is needed and awareness needs to get out on the mainland.
00:53 You're doing it here for the island and the island life needs it. But what about the livable, every other city in Great Britain.
01:03 So, you're banging on the door and asking who shall we say, politicians.
01:15 It's the politicians that make the decisions and that's how Britain goes far and wide.
01:23 Is that why you chose to do it today? Because you believe so much in the charity that we're raising money for?
01:28 Is that the main motivation to come and do this today?
01:31 Well, I was asked to come to play golf first and foremost with Phil Thompson. Then I asked him what charity it was.
01:38 He said it was the Philbert Agers. I said, I'm in. So, we're here.
01:45 If it goes on year after year, if this is the first of many years to come, I'll be here again.
01:52 Because you only get two double battle Bruce's here.
01:57 Absolutely.
01:59 What do you think of the Isle of Man? Have you been before?
02:06 I've been to the Isle of Man since I first started playing for Liverpool.
02:10 Charity golf in the early days used to go with sports, sport aiding, medical research for kids.
02:18 That's where the charity is. And because this is a medical charity, I'll play any time.
02:29 It's got to be done. And listen, you come over here on a beautiful night like this, it's absolutely fantastic.
02:39 Pristine, isn't it?
02:41 No, Ramsey, you're standing here at the clubhouse looking down the 18th and 1st hole and it's just fantastic.
02:47 All you need is a couple of deer running on the fairway and that would make life oh so much better.
02:57 If you want some deer, I've got a friend in Scotland who can get you some red deer.
03:01 And we can put them on the green.
03:04 Because I tell you what, they don't come near the green because of the chemicals.
03:09 They'll stay around on the fringes because of the chemicals on the fairways.
03:14 They'll stay on the fringes.
03:16 Ideal.
03:18 I come from Africa. You need some wildlife out there.
03:24 So would you recommend the Isle of Man and this golf course in particular, Ramsey Golf Course, would you recommend it to people that you know?
03:29 Would you say come to the Isle of Man and experience what it's got to offer?
03:33 Listen, we're coming back. We're going to be playing again.
03:39 Really?
03:41 We're coming back because John Aldridge has actually got some B&H bonnet.
03:47 He wants to set the record straight.
03:51 Instead of being in the south of Spain and all those places, they can come here to the Isle of Man in the summer and play some very, very good golf courses and have a great time.
04:03 And the weather's just as good as well, isn't it?
04:05 Well, if you get it like this, you've got to get it right.
04:11 You need an African witch doctor.
04:14 And that's one of the bruises.
04:19 I'd just like to ask as well, I'm a Liverpool fan, you're one of my heroes.
04:24 My dad grew up, when I was growing up, he told me all about your antics on the touchline with the whole bubbly knees and stuff.
04:30 I'd like to ask what you think of the current situation. Arnie Slott coming in, what do you think about the new manager?
04:35 I don't know if you've researched him or looked into him or...
04:38 I've had a little delve into his managerial career.
04:45 I think that he's a little bit of an authoritarian, which I think that we need.
04:52 I know that Klopp has been brilliant and he loves the players and that's what gets him.
05:01 But you see, the thing is, if he's like that and now he's coming to the end of his time, you need someone to come in and say, "Listen, Peng, you could have got there if you had done this."
05:14 And that's the authority that a manager should have.
05:19 And I think that they left it too lacy days ago.
05:25 For me, you cannot take anything away that Klopp has done.
05:31 As I said, inside, he's left Arnie Slott with a nice golden egg.
05:37 Fantastic squad, isn't it? Fantastic squad.
05:41 Fantastic everything. Liverpool is in the best position it's ever been under a manager, with a new manager coming in.
05:51 So, let's see how that golden egg can grow or disappear.
05:58 And if it disappears, then it's only up to the manager in the future.
06:03 Players, if they like the manager, they'll play for him.
06:10 That's all I'm gonna say.
