00:00 Talk us through what the plans are here for Osherill Community Centre and what it means for the centre going forward.
00:04 We're going to build a new youth centre as part of the Youth Investment Fund.
00:08 We will have a sports hall on the top where young people can do activities in sports and games.
00:13 On the lower floor there will be youth rooms, youth spaces, interview rooms, all ways to help young people.
00:20 It's a fantastic opportunity for South Shields and South Tyneside.
00:25 We've got an amazing investment and we're really excited to offer these activities and opportunities for young people in the area.
00:33 Funding for this has come from the Youth Investment Fund.
00:37 How much does that mean for the centre, especially here in South Tyneside, to be able to secure that kind of funding?
00:42 It's a massive investment of just over £2 million which is from the Youth Investment Fund.
00:49 That's a government-based organisation which has distributed funding out to different centres throughout the country.
00:59 We were fortunate enough in the bid that we made to be successful in that after quite a lot of scrutiny.
01:07 Obviously, because it's public money, it has to be carefully monitored in relation to the spending process and the criteria attached to that.
01:16 It's youth-based so what we're trying to do is, as Liz has already said, generate a youth service, an improved youth service.
01:27 We've got a youth service already here but in terms of the new facilities, the new sports aspect of facilities and also the increased floor space,
01:40 it's going to be used to support youth individuals in the community.
