00:00Hello, yes, and North West London Council has raised over £300,000 in just 17 days from drivers who either ignored or were unaware of restrictions during roadworks.
00:13Wembley High Road in Brent was damaged by leaky drainage systems and pressure from vehicles driving on it.
00:19It was closed earlier in January at the start of the year for repair work that finished just earlier this month.
00:26Now, though, a Freedom of Information request submitted to Brent Council has revealed that 5,701 penalty notices were issued between 15th and 31st January due to violations of the restrictions.
00:41The council said it was surprised by the number of drivers who failed to take notice of the no-entry signage and used a lane that was only open to buses and emergency vehicles.
00:52Drivers who were facing fines were warned that they faced a penalty of £130 for using the lane, reduced to £65 if paid within 14 days.
01:04Now, during the 17-day period, it's thought that Brent Council generated £313,000 from the fines, according to a local democracy reporting service.
01:15It is understood, though, that not all the PCNs that were issued during that period would have been paid over those 17 days that the FOI is related to.
01:25Trooper Seth, a Cabinet Member for the Environment and Enforcement at Brent Council, said that taking into account our extensive communication on the Wembley High Road upgrades,
01:37we are surprised at the number of motorists who decided to ignore the no-entry signage.
