‘Some people leave them everywhere’: Are E-Bikes a hazard in London?

We ask Londoners if they think e-bikes can be hazardous in London, after TFL have proposed tighter regulations on parking.

00:09Yeah, I mean you see e-bikes all over the place, I think they're incredibly useful,

00:13I think they will grow in popularity and they're a great way to get around a busy city, so

00:18I'm not against them at all, but I definitely think something needs to be done about where

00:23they're stationed because for, you know, people are not able-bodied, it's not great, right,

00:28if you have to kind of get past a massive mountain of e-bikes just to cross a road,

00:33so I think probably, you know, it's something that needs to be improved on and resolved,

00:39but I don't think e-bikes are going anywhere.

00:42I think they're a good thing, I mean my step-sons use them, I get the point, but I think it

00:47can be a bit exaggerated to be honest, you know, people go, you know, they're a little

00:51bit annoying, but it's not the end of the world.

00:54I've never used them, I have been curious, yes, I wish they would because some people

01:00just throw them everywhere, blocking the pavements, so yeah, if there's a stricter law or rule

01:08that they have to put it back in where they got it from or in a bike, I don't know, area,

01:16yeah, that would be great and maybe penalise them.

01:21What would you think would be a good way to penalise, like maybe a fine or?

01:24Yeah, a fine, not like a parking fine, but say an extra £5-£10 on what they're paying

01:33and that would make them, you know, be more courteous to those who are walking and those

01:37who are driving because some of them leave it in the road as well.

01:40The transport organisation's new policy aims to tackle poorly parked e-bikes causing access

01:46or safety issues. TfL said a proportionate and pragmatic approach would be taken to any

01:52enforcement activity. It said it had written to operators to ask them to collaborate on

01:57its new enforcement policy.
