00:00Trying to find room ahead of Stefano Aldani, still Vacek goes, still Vacek goes, but now it's Pedersen, Pedersen explodes on the front, Corbyn Strong alongside him, Corbyn Strong from New Zealand, but Pedersen is going to hold them all off, win number two for Maz Pedersen, and with it, the Maglia Rosa, perfection from Pedersen, and from Lidl Drek, they have done it.
00:22After the travel day then, the longest day of the Giro to date, 189 kilometres from Albero Bello to a finish in Lecce in Puglia, an opportunity for the fast men, the first probably guaranteed bunch sprint of the Giro, and a day for Maz Pedersen to prove that he can win on all terrains, Primoz Roglic just looking to get through the day in one piece.
00:48The race rolling out of the beautiful town of Albero Bello, and the flag dropping on the outskirts, and immediately one rider attacked.
00:58It was Francisco Munoz, the 23-year-old Spanish rider from Pulti Visit Malta, looking round to see if anyone would come with him, noting that no one would come with him, shaking his head and bedding in for a long, hot day in the saddle in Puglia.
01:12So one attacker, building up an advantage that would at one point reach five minutes before they slowly but surely reeled him in.
01:21The first difficulty of the day was the only categorised climb of the day.
01:24At Putignano, a cat-four climb, Munoz went over with a four-minute advantage over the bunch,
01:31from which then Silvan Monique attacked, which provoked the blue jersey Lorenzo Fortunato to follow him.
01:38Monique went over in second place for two points, Fortunato in third for one single point.
01:44And then at the first of the two sprints, Nunoz was still off the front on his own.
01:48And behind there were minor placings, up for grabs.
01:51Jenson Plowright of Alpesin de Koenig defending Caden Grove's position,
01:55followed over the line by Olof Koi and Maz Pedersen, all scoring points in the Mali-Ciclamino.
02:00Nunoz still frying off the front.
02:02The next difficulty of the day was the Red Bull Kilometre,
02:08but before that a crash involving and delaying a number of the little Trek riders,
02:13including Giulio Ciccone and Maz Pedersen,
02:15but spelling the end of the race for the Canadian rider from Q36.5, Nick Zukowski,
02:19who had to abandon with a suspected broken collarbone.
02:22At the Red Bull Kilometre then, Nunoz threw on his own with a three-minute advantage,
02:27and then a battle for bonus seconds behind, going the way of Isaac del Toro,
02:31ahead of Primoz Roglic, who picked up two bonus seconds.
02:35Briefly, Bahrain Victorious then tried to split the bunch,
02:38which they succeeded in doing temporarily in the strong cross-tail wins
02:42that prevailed throughout the day of racing, but it did all come back together again.
02:47Here's Malisa Bike and Lidl Trek restoring control on the front of the bunch.
02:50As they then approached the final intermediate sprint of the day.
02:59Before that, though, they swept up Francisco Munoz,
03:02who only made it to 56.5 kilometres before he,
03:07eventually the solo attacker, was reeled in by a peloton beginning to motor.
03:12And then at the second intermediate sprint,
03:14it was a battle between Olaf Koi and Maz Pedersen.
03:16This one would go to the commissaires who had to review the footage,
03:20declaring that Olaf Koi just about edged out Maz Pedersen
03:24for the maximum points at the second sprint of the day.
03:26Then on to the finishing circuit and disaster for Sørenkraut-Andersen
03:29and Lidl Trek as Maz Pedersen suddenly found himself
03:33with 22 kilometres to go right off the back
03:35and having to be involved in a furious chase to get back into contention.
03:38Picnic Postenel, Kasper van Uden, 300 metres to go at this point.
03:43It's time to unleash the fast men.
03:45Kasper van Uden, the first of them to show his hand.
03:48Ben Turner with a big charge up on the left-hand side of the road.
03:50Maz Pedersen looking for space on the right by the barriers.
03:53Paul Magnier in the mix.
03:54Koi on the other side of the road.
03:56Van Uden is going to be.
03:57Pedersen with a charge.
03:58Van Uden takes it for Picnic Postenel,
04:00a first-ever Grand Tour victory for the Dutchman.
04:02First punch print of the Giro going the way of this young man
04:23who has a big future ahead of him.
04:25More to come from him, perhaps.
04:26The first three places all going the way of the Netherlands.
04:30Maz Pedersen settling for fourth place on the stage
04:32but still in the Malia Rosa,
04:34albeit with a slightly diminished lead over Primoz Roglic
04:36down to seven seconds.
04:38He still leads the Malia Ciclamino
04:40but, on the evidence of what we've seen today,
04:42Olaf Koi has become a real threat for Maz Pedersen
04:45in that classification.
04:46Lorenzo Fortunato's lead in the King of the Mountains
04:48has shrunk by one point to Silva Monique.
04:51And Matthias Vacek continues in the white jersey
04:54although Isaac del Toro has moved up into second place.
