00:00It's going to enjoy this moment, isn't it, Jacopo?
00:06Yeah, yeah, it's definitely the explosion of joy, you know, for, you know, it was a
00:13big expectation when he turned from the Devo team to the pros, and I think, like, this
00:19can be a breakthrough Giro d'Italia for him as well, you know, 23 years of old, and look
00:25to, you know, for this carrier to finally lift off.
00:30He's very talented, the sprinter, Kasper Van Uden.
00:34Huge crowd in Lecce, acknowledging what they've seen and followed over the last few hours of
00:40racing, and in particular, when it reached the circuit in this lovely town as well.
00:44What a race it was.
00:46Navigating the chaos was one thing, but getting that final kilometre right was quite another,
00:52and it was the corner, with 300 metres to go, with, on the wheel, of Bram Welton, as you
00:57say, that made the difference, and Jacopo, given that that was your trade, your craft, you must
01:05really have admired Bram Welton's contribution to that victory.
01:09Yeah, I was, I share the same team for only one season, actually, with Bram, a very, very
01:15good guy, and so happy to see him deliver a fine lead-out, as everybody knows he's able
01:21of.
01:22So, cheers up to Team Picnic, was a wonderful stage for them, they rode perfectly.
01:29And that is a giant railway ticket from the sponsors, presumably free railway travel for
01:36life now in Italy.
01:37Yeah, he can come back in the Netherlands at the end of, from Rome, probably by train.
01:55Now then, for young riders who aren't yet prolific winners, it's always a bit of a moment to see
02:00how they deal with the champagne bottle, how good is his technique, what's the jeopardy
02:05going to be like, how committed is he going to be when he lifts it to his lips and drinks,
02:10what do you think?
02:11Does he look like a one-swig man, or do you think he's going to go for two swigs?
02:16Depends on how sweat he lost today, you know?
02:19That's a fine trophy, isn't it, for the stage win to take away from Lecce, as a reminder.
02:25That's the, I think that's the Duomo, a replica of the cathedral here in Lecce.
02:32So he's got a lot to take away with him.
02:37Well, that's good for a start, he's facing the cork away from himself.
02:40Yeah, somebody was scared on his side, like, might be showered with some champagne.
02:45Yeah.
02:46That's a lot to contend with, isn't it?
02:52Yeah, there we go.
02:55And a huge roar goes up from the crowd here in Lecce.
02:58So there's one swig.
03:00Now, is that it?
03:03I think he might be going back for more.
03:05Maybe not.
03:10So someone needs to give him a hand here.
03:12Yeah.
03:13It's not too much to carry.
03:14What am I going to do now?
03:17It must all just passing like a dream, though.
03:20Fantastic moment.
03:21Imagine that, as Jeff was pointing out in the interview with him, a first punch sprint as well.
03:25It's stage four, but it's his first punch sprint.
03:27Yeah.
03:28So definitely pleased with today's stage.
03:31So a reminder of the top ten, then.
03:56First three places all going to the Netherlands.
04:01Maz Pedersen uncharacteristically at this Giro.
04:04Not even on the podium.
04:05Just.
04:09Max Cantor has been relegated.
04:14So there has been a change in the top ten.
04:17So Cantor already, surprisingly quickly actually, the UCI officials have got involved.
04:22And they have seen something irregular in his sprints that we'd have to look at again to try and work out what it was.
04:27And he's been relegated to last place.
04:29So disappointment there for Astana.
04:31Because even though he wasn't on the podium places, he would have picked up a lot of UCI points.
04:36Which is especially on a day where their biggest rivals, Picnic Post and El, pick up 180 UCI points for the victory.
04:46Here we are with Pedersen.
04:47Not the best of his day in terms of luck.
04:49Two times involved in a crash.
04:51It doesn't seem like he was on the ground, but definitely was disrupted his run to the finish line.
04:58He got home with a nice fourth place, although not definitely what he was looking for or able for.
05:04We haven't really learnt, we haven't got our answer out of today as to whether Maz Pedersen has got it in the locker to beat the bunch sprinters here.
05:15I don't think it's fair to judge Maz Pedersen on what happened to him today.
05:19So we don't know.
05:20We'll have to wait until the next time he goes head to head.
05:22Yeah, exactly.
05:23Exactly.
05:24It was a good sprint from him though.
05:25He was, he was eager and like one thing, I think it's very remarkable.
05:30Like how easy is for him to move up in the peloton when he's speeding up at 60 per hour.
05:35We need to find a position.
05:36He was just powering his way up to the front of the peloton.
05:41I think tomorrow is probably the perfect Maz Pedersen stage, if I'm honest.
05:47Yeah.
05:48Before we go off air today, we'll have a look at tomorrow's profile at the Matera stage, because it looks very much like it's another opportunity for Pedersen.
05:56And let's face it, he finished fourth.
06:01It was a phenomenal performance today, having been delayed as he was with 15, 16 kilometers still to go.
06:08Even to be there in the mix was an amazing performance.
06:11And he continues to lead the Giro d'Italia.
06:15Yeah.
06:16It's not a terrible day.
06:19It's a very good day.
06:21But Lidltrek, they had a bit of damage inflicted on them today and they had to react and they kind of saved the, they saved the situation.
06:29It did look quite serious for Sƶnkraut-Andersen, unfortunately.
06:33And I'd be interested to see whether he's able to battle through whatever he's done to his wrist.
06:39And take to the start, at least tomorrow, and try and, if he's not broken anything, get through any damage that he might have done over the next few days.
06:46But it did look quite serious the way he's holding his arm over the line.
06:49Yeah, probably approached the last 20 kilometers, Craig Anderson, without using his left arm on the end of bar.
06:56So he looked very, very bruised upon the crash.
07:00Seven seconds now is all he leads Primoz Roglic by.
07:05Isaac del Toro, interestingly, picking up four bonus seconds, has moved ahead of his team leader Juan Ayuso and moves up to fifth.
07:13Ayuso drops down to sixth.
07:23Nice mix of nationalities there.
07:26Mass Pedersen has piled on a load of more, a load more points.
07:31But he's lost a bit of ground to a potential rival who he's discovered today in Olaf Koi for the Maglia Ciclamino.
07:37So we might have a decent battle after all, all the way to Rome, between those two riders in particular.
07:43Vincenzo Nibeli on the podium.
07:53We're going to wait to see the general classmate for a points jersey to discover who's going to wear tomorrow the Ciclamino jersey as Mats Pedersen, leader of the GC as well.
08:03He has to wear the pink jersey instead of the Ciclamino, who's going to give.
08:07Yeah, good point.
08:08Who's it going to be?
08:09Do you think Koi has got enough points?
08:10It might be.
08:11It might be.
08:12Yeah, I think he might do.
08:13It would have picked up 35 points for second place.
08:18Yeah, I think it will be Koi.
08:20So two more jerseys still to go.
08:31And it will be interesting to look at the top ten in the Maglia Ciclamino standings.
08:42It'll also be quite interesting to look at the weather forecast tomorrow, if the weather is about to change.
08:47When we get to look at the stage map for tomorrow's stage.
08:51Here we go.
08:52Olaf Koi indeed moves up into second place above Kasper van Uden, who picks up 50 points flat for the victory.
08:57So Koi is now within, what, 31 points of Mats Pedersen.
09:01It is game on now.
09:03The sprinters have started to score.
09:05That could change quite quickly.
09:06Yeah, we see from the classification how high is affecting the classmate at sprint stage.
09:16Kasper van Uden without even trying an intermediate sprinting out in third place with 50 points.
09:20Only two points down on Olaf Koi, which was also sprinting for the intermediates.
09:24Yeah, there's a big difference between finishing first and third.
09:27Or even fourth.
09:29So Lorenzo Fortunato didn't have to do much today to extend his lead in the King of the Mountains classification.
09:35Scored an extra point in the only KOM categorized column of the day.
09:44Came in third place.
09:46So he added one extra point to his classification.
09:50Now should be at 29 points.
09:52Actually, he didn't extend his lead.
09:54His lead shrank by one.
09:55Yeah.
09:56Because he just got...
09:57Yeah, he just got one more point.
09:58And Sylvain Monique picked up two.
10:00So his lead shrunk.
10:01My mistake.
10:02Tomorrow there is one more category four climb as well.
10:11So the same is differently placed, but there is a climb towards the back end of tomorrow.
10:17Where there are another three points on offer.
10:19So Lorenzo Fortunato will go into stage six after tomorrow.
10:23Still in the lead, whatever happens.
10:35Disappointment though for XDS Astana overall because Max Cantor's relegation means that all those efforts were in vain.
10:46The UCA commissaries have been busy over the last first four days, haven't they?
10:49They've had to intervene a lot.
10:50They've been relegations, they've been yellow cards, they've been fines.
10:54Yeah, we haven't seen actually what happened with Max Cantor because, of course, like, as we said earlier,
11:00there is a dedicated jury commissar checking all the images to be sure everything is done correctly.
11:08And apparently Max Cantor probably was too much aggressive in the finale.
11:13Seems so, doesn't it?
11:14So Fortunato's lead over Monique now just nine points having started the day, ten points up.
11:19Another day in white tomorrow for the leader of the best young riders competition, the Czech strongman.
11:31Matias Vacek.
11:33He was the only little Trek rider who wasn't sent back to help either Ciccone or Maz Pedersen.
11:43He's one of their leaders now.
11:45He's wearing a distinctive jersey.
11:47He could turn that into Amalia Rosa in the days to come.
11:50And he could play a big part in this bike race and, who knows, even win a stage.
11:56And they needed him at the front and he stayed at the front today while everybody else scampered around trying to get Ciccone and Pedersen back into the race.
12:04Yeah, indeed, keeping him in position was the best decision because in case something went wrong with Pedersen or Ciccone,
12:11so we're not able to bridge back to the peloton, he will have been there and still in contention for wearing the pink jersey.
12:16And this is going to be it at least for the first week of this Giro d'Italia.
12:19But Ediron is going to be back on more domestic duties and maybe look for stage victories.
12:37Crowd definitely pleased with the flower strong.
12:41With the bouquet, yep.
12:45It's funny to see the riders, how they get more accustomed to...
12:49The routine. Yeah.
12:50The beginning, it's a little bit bewildering, isn't it?
12:52I know, I see Bacic.
13:02Last year, Tadej Pogacar in the pink jersey every single day.
13:06Towards the end, he started doing less and less and less.
13:08Oh, yeah.
13:10He's made the briefest of appearances and then walked off with a smile and a wave.
13:13Just the minimal.
13:17So there's a slight change as well in the white jersey standings as Isaac del Toro moves just like he does in GC.
13:25Ahead of Juan Ayuso, those two riders in second and third in the white jersey standings.
13:32Max Pool in fourth.
13:34That's all the jerseys.
13:36I think the first rider to share his thoughts with us wearing one of those distinctive jerseys is the King of the Mountains, Lorenzo Fortunato.
13:49Let's hear what he has to say.
13:51Lorenzo, one time...
13:55...
13:57...
13:59...
14:01...
14:03...
14:05...
